It's hoped legacy water disruptions in a bustling West Clare town will finally be coming to an end this Summer. Uisce Eireann has confirmed it will be replacing 6km of defective 50-year-old mains on the Coore water scheme which also serves the surrounding areas of Mullagh, Quilty, Spanish Point and Annagh. The works will commence in March and are expected to be complete by mid June. Quilty Fianna Fáil Councillor Michael Shannon says it's crucial for the region's tourism product.

Andy Johnson sits down with Bob Crosby, Chairman of the USGA's Museum Committee, for a wide-ranging conversation about the golf architecture trends of today. Bob shares his view on what he sees as a turning point in the industry, as the next generation of golf architects need to distinguish themselves from the minimalism trend developed by the likes of Tom Doak and Coore & Crenshaw. Andy and Bob discuss the uptick in new courses being built during the 2020s, as fresh faces in the golf architecture world now have an opportunity to build their own projects. They also discuss the place of traditional clubs in today's game and why many golfers may opt for a different type of playing experience.
Frank Weed, CEO of Panther National, joined Rob Thomas on the Club + Resort Talks podcast to discuss everything from the Jack Nicklaus/Justin Thomas-designed golf course to the spectacular clubhouse that's planned for the community. Swiss skiing legend Dominik Senn is creating a world-class experience in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Also on the podcast: Palmetto Bluff announced plans for a new Coore & Crenshaw golf course. Sited on approximately 500 acres in South Carolina Lowcountry and estimated to open Winter 2025-26, the yet-to-be-named course's first phase of construction will include the golf course, a maintenance facility and temporary amenities, with a clubhouse planned for a second phase. A bunker renovation is elevating the golf experience at this Tennessee club. Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. enlisted Kris Spence and his team to improve bunker playability and drainage across the course. Spence and Superintendent Ryan Blair relied on a careful study of old aerial photos, course maps, and Donald Ross' original drawings to preserve the integrity of the original design. And last, but not least … Happy 25th Birthday to Mizner Country Club! The Grande Clubhouse, a two-story hub designed in old-world style, will soon undergo extensive renovations beginning in June 2025. This update will bring a fresh look and enhanced functionality to Mizner's gathering spaces, including: Lobby, Men's & Ladies' Bathrooms, One Mile Bar & Grill, The Dining Room, New Outside Covered Terrace, and Kitchen Upgrades.
Advanced Ranking on Amazon in Q4: Garfield Coore In this episode of Seller Sessions, Danny McMillan welcomes back Garfield Coore, a top-ranking strategist, to break down Amazon's algorithm. Garfield shares insights for sellers to maximize organic rank, external traffic, and achieve ranking stability as Q4 peaks., Garfield shares essential techniques for sellers looking to stay competitive and profitable. Key Takeaways The Three-Stage Ranking System: Primary Ranking Events: Roughly 90% of ranking impact comes from core behaviours on Amazon. Key actions include searches leading to a product page, add-to-cart from a search click, and purchases from a search pathway. Garfield stresses avoiding variations that interrupt the ranking pathway. Keyword Cohorts: Leveraging keyword "families" (using Amazon's Opportunity Explorer) helps products gain ranking bleed-over. Start ranking with smaller keywords, allowing spillover to higher competition terms. Territorial Influence: Minor ranking factors include BSR and inventory location, affecting regional rank. BSR reflects category sales ranking relative to competitors. Conversion Events Beyond Sales Clicks, page visits, and add-to-cart actions all serve as ranking events, which Garfield calls “conversion events.” Focus on generating quality traffic to accumulate these events, which can boost rank without immediate sales. PPC Strategy: Maximizing Click-Through Rate PPC placement relies on expected revenue from clicks, not relevance. Garfield explains that a history of clicks improves PPC placement probability. Timing Event-Driven Ranking Garfield advises starting campaigns for seasonal events early to establish a low-cost rank before high-demand periods. For example, healthcare and weight loss products should begin ranking efforts before New Year's resolutions in January. It's been suggested people in West Clare no longer feel protected by their local Gardaí. It follows an incident at a home in Coore last week in which a resident sustained minor injuries after two men arrived at their door after 9pm and stole a sum of cash before fleeing. The annual conference of the Association of Garda Superintendents recently heard criticisms of the merger of Clare and Tipperary's Garda Divisions last year, with the assocation's president pointing out that only one superintendent is based in the county now compared to four prior to the amalgamation. Ennistymon Fianna Fáil Councillor Shane Talty believes locals have good reason to feel they're more vulnerable to crime now than they once were.
Andy Johnson is joined by The Fried Egg's Matt Rouches and Clear Creek Director of Greens and Grounds Mike Cunniff on this two-part episode. To start, Andy and Matt discuss Matt's recent trip through the Nebraska Sandhills, where Matt played 14 different golf courses in six days. They discuss the best golf in the region, Matt's prior experience living in the Sandhills, playing courses with sand greens, and how he'd play just ten rounds in the area. After that, Andy sits down with Mike Cunniff at Clear Creek, a course in Carson City, Nevada next to Lake Tahoe. Andy and Mike talk about the Coore and Crenshaw course in the mountains, how they maintain the course in the elevation and with houses surrounding it, Mike's work at Old Sandwich and more.
It's claimed the people of Miltown have been "sold a disaster" due to persistent water outages affecting homes and businesses in the region. It's after a burst main led to supply disruptions in the Coore, Quilty, Mullagh,Miltown Malbay, Spanish Point and Cooraclare areas for the second time in the space of a month. The West Clare Municipal District has since requested a meeting with Senior Management in Uisce Eireann and Clare's Oireachtas members with a view to securing capital funding to upgrade the 50-year-old pipeline serving the network. Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Shane Talty says the situation is completely unacceptable.

An urgent meeting between Clare County Council and Uisce Éireann is being sought to ensure the county's tourism-dependent regions can enjoy adequate water supply going forward. Following supply interruptions in West Clare due to a burst main on the Old Doolough supply on Sunday, Uisce Éireann has confirmed supply has been returned to customers in Miltown Malbay, Spanish Point, Quilty, Mullagh, Coore, Creegh, Cooraclare, Cahermurphy and surrounding area. With fears having been expressed that outages could be experienced during the upcoming Willie Clancy Week, the water utility has claimed there are no planned outages in the area from July 6th to 14th. Cathaoirleach of the West Clare Municipal District and Doonbeg Fianna Fáil Councillor Rita McInerney says she believes engagement is needed with Uisce Éireann to ensure they appreciate the importance of reliable water supply in West Clare.
Uisce Eireann is being urged to prioritise the enhancement of water and wastewater infrastructure in Miltown Malbay following renewed supply disruptions this weekend. It's after a burst main led to outages in the Coore, Mullagh, Miltown Malbay and Spanish Point areas yesterday afternoon; leaving bars, restaurants and public toilets without water during a peak visitor period. In a statement to Clare FM, Uisce Eireann says crews were immediately deployed to carry out repairs and that supply is now returning to all impacted customers. Clare Independent TD and MEP Elect Michael McNamara says the repeated occurrence is unacceptable.

For the sixth installment of our Great Courses series, historian Lee Pace joins Garrett for a deep dive into the history of the Pinehurst Resort and Donald Ross's Pinehurst No. 2 golf course. Lee and Garrett discuss the origins of James Walker Tufts's retreat in the unpromising environs of the North Carolina Sandhills, how golf was introduced to Pinehurst, and Ross's influence on the development of several excellent courses at the resort. They also detail the evolution of the No. 2 course's architecture, from its earliest iteration in 1907, to the introduction of Bermudagrass greens in the mid-1930s, to Coore & Crenshaw's restoration in the early 2010s. Lee and Garrett finish with descriptions of a few of No. 2's key holes. Check out Lee Pace's 2012 account The Golden Age of Pinehurst as well as his most recent book Good Walks.
On this episode of the Club + Resort Talks podcast, Rob Thomas speaks with Jonathan Fralick, VP, Racquet Sports for Invited Clubs. Fralick discusses a number of programs across the Invited portfolio, including two grow-the-game initiatives — First Serve and Right Start. First Serve is a comprehensive junior pathway to ensure organization, player development and member enjoyment with clear goals and proven developmental success. The Right Start program is designed for entry-level adults interested in learning or returning to tennis and pickleball, successfully building a community of players who learn and develop together in a social setting. Fralick also talked about inclusivity, technology and speculated on what the future may hold for racquet sports across the club space. Thomas was also joined by Senior Editor Phil Keren. The two discussed some of the latest news from Club + Resort Business, such as three new short courses. Officials at Streamsong Golf Resort in Bowling Green, Fla. say all 19 holes on its fourth golf course, The Chain, will open for preview play March 31. The short course, which was designed by the world-renowned duo of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, brings a new concept to the golf offerings at the resort with options for six and 13-hole loops or a 19-hole round. “When you take strength and length out of the equation, golf becomes much more fun for a vastly expanded group of players,” Coore says. Work is continuing on the construction of the nine-hole Clover golf course at Killearn Club in Tallahassee, Fla. The course will be walking-only and will offer five par-3 holes of varying lengths and four short par-4 holes. MacCurrach Golf Construction of Jacksonville, Fla. continues to execute construction with Aqua Turf International, responsible for the redesigned irrigation system. Construction is expected to conclude in May. Also, golf course architect Tom Clark goes behind the scenes of The Battlefield at Oklahoma's Shangri-La Resort—a 3,000-yard, par-54 layout with more than 100 feet of elevation change. Each hole on The Battlefield is named in honor of an Oklahoma veteran of World War II.

Businesses in Miltown Malbay have expressed serious frustration over water disruption in the town and surrounding areas in the run up to Christmas. It comes as Uisce Éireann is working to repair a burst water main, which the utility says may cause intermittent supply issues until 6 o'clock this evening, as well as in the Coore, Mullagh, Quility and surrounding areas. In June on 2021, the utility completed upgrade works on 5km of water mains, however the section between Mullagh Cross and the Coore treatment plant will remained intact. This has prompted concern locally that longstanding issues with water outages will continue. Today's outage is the second in less than a week and local Fianna Fáil Councillor Shane Talty has been telling Clare FM's Daragh Dolan that the ongoing outages is damaging for businesses.

George Waters is originally from Long Island, NY - his first tentative steps into the business of golf were at St. George's Country Club on Long Island where he worked on the greens team during summer breaks. George would go on to work on the maintenance teams at Royal Dornoch, Merion and The California Club. While studying an economics undergraduate degree, George contacted Tom Doak of Renaissance Golf Design who urged him, over an number of years, to travel as widely as possible, gain on-course experience and consider post-graduate study of landscape architecture. While at the University of Guelph George was accepted as an intern with Renaissance Golf Design, this move would ultimately mean exposure to restoration and design/build projects such as Yeaman's Hall, Mid-Ocean, Pasatiempo, Barnbougle Dunes, Rock Creek Cattle Company, Sebonak, The Renaissance Club and the Strand 9 at Rosapenna. George would go on to work on the Coore and Crenshaw restoration at Pinehurst #2, Kyle Philips' historical renovation at The Cal Club and on the reimagining of Mid Pines in conjunction with Kyle Franz. George now works for the USGA Green Section as Education Manager - given the scope of his expereinces to date he is the ideal guest to explore the intersection of golf course design and maintenance. www.georgewatersgolf.com Special Guest: George Waters.

The third of our deep dives into the five 18-hole courses at Bandon Dunes focuses on Bandon Trails, built by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw in 2005. Andy Johnson and Garrett Morrison talk about how the construction of Bandon Trails fit into the resort's history, and they play an interview clip in which Coore discusses the origins of the course's three-part identity. Andy and Garrett then launch into a wide-ranging discussion of Bandon Trails' (many) strengths and (few) weaknesses. They cover, among other things, their favorite green-to-tee transitions, the controversy around the 14th hole, and the course's similarities to Saving Private Ryan, The Princess Bride, and Bruce Bowen. (All of that will make sense in context, we promise.) The Bandon Deep Dives are brought to you by Zero Restriction.

She has also authored two books about writing and choosing the right words to convince whoever you are talking to. In this episode, Sue talks about her journey and tells some amusing stories about how she got into public speaking. She shares her knowledge about creating emotional certainty, using email etiquette, and communicating with people from different cultures, and offers advice for anyone considering starting a speaking career. We hope you learn a lot from listening to today's conversation with Sue Hershkowitz-Coore! Sue Hershkowitz-Coore's bio Internationally recognized communications researcher and sales trainer with multiple degrees and honors from prestigious universities, Sue Hershkowitz-Coore helps audiences increase profitability, professionalism, and productivity through improved communications. Skillfully blending persuasion research, business trends, anecdotes, insights, and studies from the social sciences into practical training, Sue has developed a winning communication system that creates amazingly successful and profitable customer relationships. Sue has authored Power Sales Writing (now in its 2nd printing: McGraw-Hill) named among the “Best Books for Sales Success” by Selling Power magazine, and How to Say It to Sell It! (Prentice Hall/Penguin). She provides a fresh, practical look at how what you say, and how you say it, can skyrocket success. Speaker Sue is a past officer, board member, and President's award winner of the National Speakers Association, a founding member of Meeting Professionals International's Women's Leadership Initiative, was designated an MPI “Platinum” speaker for 12 consecutive years and named “Best in Class″ by Professional Convention Management Association. Sue's educational degrees include a Masters of Counseling and a Fellowship supported by the University of California at Berkeley. Her presentations take her around the world including very recent appearances in China, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Spain, France, Canada and Mexico, and the US of course. Sue was awarded "Best Hospitality Sales Trainer - 2021" by LUXLife, the luxury lifestyle magazine. Sue's journey Sue taught seventh and eighth grade English until her son was born. She wanted to spend more time with him, so she gave up teaching. Later, she started knocking on doors to earn a living. While pitching a bank, her enthusiasm made up for all she lacked in terms of professionalism, so they hired her. Everything else Sue achieved in her career came about as a result of that original presentation. Becoming a speaker Sue credits the National Speakers Association (NSA) for teaching her the fundamentals of being a professional speaker. Writing a book Listening to Larry Winget explain the steps you need to take to write a book at an NSA meeting motivated Sue to write her first book, Power Sales Writing. Larry suggested writing down 110 ideas, and then fleshing them out. On her flight home, Sue came up with 102 ideas. After that, she started writing the book. Publishing her book When trying to find a publisher for her book, Sue got 42 rejection letters. So, she published the book herself. Then an agent saw the book and offered to publish it, but Sue refused. Part of a series Later, Sue was asked to do a second version of her book. That book resulted in her being invited to be part of a popular series of “how-to” books for business communication. Customer-centricity Some of the most well-known brands in the world are Sue's clients. She teaches their salespeople that everything needs to revolve around the customer. Over and above that, they need to move away from transactions and towards emotional certainty. Choosing brain-friendly words to create emotional certainty Research has shown that some words activate positive neurons in the brain and conjure up positive and pleasant images in the mind's eye. Other words, however, activate negative neurons in the brain and cause people to imagine negative things. Most of us fail to realize how often we self-sabotage by using words that are not brain-friendly. Moving to the next level To move to the next level of emotional certainty, salespeople need to create excitement and focus on customer-centric outcomes. Cross-cultural etiquette and best practices for email and texting etiquette Always honor the recipient when sending an email to someone in another country. When communicating with someone from a different culture, honor whatever their expectations are. Do not mention your name at the start of an email. Remember to give your name when texting someone for the first time. Be as authentic as possible when writing an email and infuse your message with positivity. Do not cross the line between being friendly and familiar when emailing or texting a client or customer. Do not send texts to your clients in the middle of the night. Choose your words carefully. People do tend to judge others by the tone and language they use in an email. Connecting with someone on LinkedIn When writing a message to connect with someone on LinkedIn, take a moment to do some research. You can read their home page, their “about” section, and quickly learn about the company they work for. Use some of that information to personalize your message. Remember that it is a business relationship, so be careful not to invade the personal space of the person to whom you are sending the message. Keep your message short, and never try to sell anything. Advice for starting a speaking career First, determine where your passion lies, and what matters to you. Then, figure out how to make that matter to the buyer. Always communicate from your heart, and keep on creating new content. When Stephen "Cat" turned twelve he fell in love with Ska and Pop music, and later Rocksteady and Reggae. He loved the Beatles and asked his mom for a guitar and she obliged and this started a love like no other. Cat joins Great Minds to discuss both his incredible music career, as well as the other legends of music he's played with along the way.
In anticipation of the 2021 Bayfront Reggae Festival coming up on July 17, Caribbean Roots host David Woodward spoke with Cat Coore of Third World, who will be performing. The Jamaican band is one of the longest-running reggae bands of all time, forming in 1973. Welcome back, Beauty Babes!!!! Okay, so did you notice I changed my name? I changed my coaching descriptive name from a Salon Development Coach to a Beauty Branding Coach. Cute right! Why the change? Because Salon Development sounded boring and didn't match my brand. So, Beauty branding babes, let get into it. This is Episode One of Season Two of Pivot & Pause, and I'm thrilled you're here and choosing to spend your valuable time growing your beauty business. Did you know that most salon and spa owners open their salon to do what they want when they want and not because they necessarily love business or love the idea of running a business? Good comes with bad, and typically good outweighs the bad, so you do it, and you enjoy the journey along the way. However, we don't think about creating a brand, having a marketing plan, growing a team or a clientele, or numbers or growth plans. You get where I'm going with that.

This week, golf course shaper and designer, Keith Rhebb, came on the show. After getting the chance to talk with Riley Johns a few weeks back, I knew I had to chat with Keith. The duo worked together on the highly acclaimed renovation of Winter Park Nine and have joined forces again to restore Rolling Green GC in Philadelphia (which we talk about in part 2). What makes Keith story so great is that growing up he didn't have any plans to be in the golf industry. It just kind of happen by chance. And well, the rest is history. Now he is one of the hottest names in the game and has a strong passion for his craft to match. In part 1, Keith and I discuss how he got into building golf in the first place, working with Coore & Crenshaw, the unbelievable projects he has been on including Cabot Cliffs, Streamsong, etc, how his career evolved, and more.

Bunny Rugs was an early member of Inner Circle, worked as an earlier duo member with “Bunny & Ricky” and recorded "Freedom Fighter" and "Bushweed Corntrash," but he is best known as the front man for Third World. Bunny had a magnificent voice that he maintained throughout his career. His voice was strong, powerful, and commanding. It’s hard to separate Bunny Rugs from Third World as the image is strong and cohesive. When William Clark – Bunny Rugs passed away, we played two hours of his music in tribute. Our selections included two solo albums “Talking To You” on Shanachie and “Time” which was release in 2012. More treasures are contained in the Third World recordings. Dozens and dozens of releases to choose from and we built a “top ten” on the spot which was based on listener calls and requests. Bunny Rugs joined Third World after Milton Hamilton left in 1976. In the following decades the core group of Third World consisted of Bunny Rugs, Irvin “Carrot” Jarrett, Michael “Ibo” Cooper, Stephen “Cat” Coore, Richie Daley, and Willie Stewart. Third World recorded for the Island/Mango label and allowed for high quality recordings to accompany the skilled instrumentalists that are Third World. Most members of Third World are unique in their formal musical training. As part of their performances, Cat Coore would bring out his cello and play a reggae laced song with that rich classical feel that the cello provides. Third World stood out in what might be called a “golden era” of reggae bands of the 70s-80’s in Jamaica. Third World’s style is what set them apart – they were crossing over into American Soul with songs like “Now That We Found Love” and Try Jah Love.” Listening back now, the music is deep and soulful with a smooth groove, very different from today’s sound. Third World’s legacy is strong in lyrical content. Rastafari, culture and social issues were always a focus. A focus which was not altered. Tracks like “Cold Sweat,” “Jah Glory,” “African Woman,” and “Shine Like A Blazing Fire” convey this reliable, rootsical message. The uptown Third World bridged the message from the heart of Jamaica and worked alongside the greats in reggae music history as partners. Bunny Rugs was a great singer, as a group Third World is great in the studio and on vinyl and when performing live, they are a joy.
74 - Reggae Lover Podcast - Top reggae bands of all time, not including the Wailers. I curated some of the biggest hits from legendary bands: Third World, Israel Vibration, Inner Circle, Aswad, Black Uhuru, and Steel Pulse - groups who have presented fabulous reggae music performances and recordings for nearly half a century. Third World is a Jamaican reggae band formed in 1973. Their sound is influenced by soul, funk and disco. Although it has undergone several line-up changes, Stephen "Cat" Coore and Richard Daley have been constant members. Steel Pulse are a roots reggae musical band, from the Handsworth area of Birmingham, England, which has a large number of Afro-Caribbean, Indian and other Asian migrants. They originally formed at Handsworth Wood Boys School - composed of David Hinds (lead vocals, guitar), Basil Gabbidon (lead guitar, vocals), and Ronald McQueen (bass); along with Basil's brother Colin briefly on drums. Steel Pulse were the first non-Jamaican act to win the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Black Uhuru are a Jamaican reggae group formed in 1972, initially as Uhuru (Swahili for 'freedom'). The group has undergone several line-up changes over the years, with Derrick "Duckie" Simpson as the mainstay. They had their most successful period in the 1980s, with their album Anthem winning the first ever Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 1985. Aswad is a long-lasting British reggae group, noted for adding strong R&B and soul influences to the reggae sound.[2] They have been performing since the mid-1970s, having released a total of 21 albums. "Aswad" means "black" in Arabic. Inner Circle are a Jamaican reggae group. The group was originally called The Inner Circle Band and formed in 1968. The band achieved major success in the 1970s with Jacob Miller as their lead singer, but split up after his death in 1980. They reformed in 1986 and had a major hit with the 1987 song "Bad Boys", which serves as the theme song for the long running Spike (formerly Fox Network) television program COPS.[1] They are also well known for their song "Sweat (A La La La La Long)," a big hit in the U.S. in the early 1990s. The band is known for blending pop and rock with reggae. Israel Vibration are a reggae harmony group, originating from Kingston, Jamaica. Lascelle "Wiss" Bulgin, Albert "Apple Gabriel" Craig, and Cecil "Skelly" Spence all overcame childhood polio, and went on to be one of the most successful roots groups to form in Jamaica in the 1970s. The trio initially met as children at a rehabilitation center. I would also want to make mention of bands like Fab 5, UB40, Big Mountain, SOJA, Tribal Seeds, Raging Fyah, and there are and have been 1000’s of musical ensembles that dedicated themselves to pushing the reggae music envelope. Big ups to all singers and players of instruments.
