Prior studies have established links between poor olfaction and Parkinson's disease, and impaired sense of smell is a common prodromal symptom of Parkinson's disease. The causes and mechanisms of prodromal neurodegeneration are actively being researched. However, environmental exposure to pesticides or other chemicals may trigger or modify the course of neurodegeneration, potentially leading to the development of Parkinson's disease over time. In this episode, Dr. Honglei Chen shares his research on environmental causes of neurodegenerative diseases, focusing particularly on evidence linking olfaction, environmental exposure, and Parkinson's disease. Better understanding how environmental factors may contribute (alone or in combination with genetic factors) to the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease may lead to new approaches to prevent or slow the progression of neurodegeneration. He explains that the strategy is not to eradicate every cancer cell but rather to keep cancer cells dormant so that they do not become active. He discusses the key things each person can do to protect themselves from toxic environmental exposures such as flame retardants, phalates, dioxins, white sugar and radio frequency radiation. “Be careful with cell phones and electronic items, use wired rather than wireless when possible.” He details detoxifying enzymes and foods we can eat to increase our bodies' ability to fight cancer. Does the environment around the parents impact the chance for birth defects? Evidence may support a level of present danger through evidence in mice. Press play to learn: What caused the defects in the studied mouse population The risks of quaternary ammonium compounds The type of exposures that can cause these problems Terry Hrubec, DVM, Ph.D., shares how the environment one is exposed to during gestation can present risks that can be harmful and leave lasting implications. While studying lab mice, Dr. Hrubrec noticed a sudden jump in birth defects among the population. After much investigation, it turned out to result from a new cleaning product used to clean the laboratory where the mice resided. The epigenetic changes may stem from the quaternary ammonium compounds present in the cleaner. Therefore, being cautious about our environment and what a mother is exposed to during gestation can be vital for the child's health. Visit https://www.vcom.edu/people/theresa-hrubec to learn more. Andrea Frank Henkhart is the author of 9 books in health and wellness and speaker. She has shared the stage with the likes of Jack Canfield and Tony Robbins and one of her books is endorsed by Oprah Winfrey and Deepak Chopra. She is also a nutritionist with 35 years experience. Andrea has a particular interest in ADHD and the gut-brain link. Here we discuss how to reverse symptoms of ADHD using a holistic approach.  SHOW NOTES 2 mins – Midwife's assistance in the 80s, witnessing injections etc 3.0 – authored a book on natural childbirth, communication skills for parents and kids (co-wrote with daughter, endorsed by Deepak Chopra & endorsed by Oprah) 3.20 – Relationships & nutrition affect children's behaviour 4.0 – ADHD Medication Ritalin is a couple of molecules off Meth Amphetamine 5.0 – Dr Feingold coined the term 'hyperactivity' – linked it to sugar and red food die. He was laughed out of the medical community. AMA apologised and welcomed him back in. 6.0 – Looking at kids with lots of energy mixed with computer screens / ipads / phones – disrupting of brain chemistry and lack of nutrition to keep the brain healthy 7.0 – Different learning styles suited for different children. One or 2 things can change everything. Toxins exist in the food supply & environment – we get to be aware 8.0 –  In America schools receive a kickback for diagnoses of ADHD and drugs prescribed (!!!) 9.0 – Over diagnosis of ADHD and first action is medication (that alters brain chemistry) 10.0 – Kids are treated differently with a label / disease 11 – Example of a child on a leash – from 18 month vaccination (all verbal ability was halted) – was not safe to walk himself. 12 – After a couple of days of appropriate therapy and nutrition, the child came off the leash after 10 years. Father was crying with joy as his son was off the leash 14 – What can be done? Gut-brain link. Depression & Gut health. 15 – Environmental factors / unravel the challenge (it's not normally just 1 thing) 16 – Importance of healthy eating during pregnancy 17 – Walking down the cereal aisle / walking down the cleaning aisle / detergents etc – how this affects gut biome. OJ example – what is in the packet OJ is presented in? 18 – Environmental toxins – dryer sheets – formaldehyde 19 – Not necessarily a ‘cure' rather making more informed decisions. Free from  Gluten / dairy / sugar / processed foods etc 20 – What's happened with the gluten in America? 21 – Anti-inflammatory living #TheVitalitySecret 22 – Focus on gut-brain link 23 – Diverticulitis – removal of certain foods. People remove the foods, but what's the root cause? Where has the imbalance / leaky gut come from? 24 – Breast milk nutrition & ingredients of baby drugs 25 – Long-lasting side effects of medications / effects on gut and brain 26 -  Trust in the innate ability of our own body to heal – SO TRUE!! Creating a strong immune system in children. “Trust your body. Trust your baby.” 27 – Have we been conditioned out of the knowing of our body's own ability to heal? 28 – ADHD is symptom just like any ‘illness' – what is causing the symptom? 29 – Our body's are breathing us. Our heart is beating. Our trillions of cells are being kept alive. Our body is a miracle. Give it what it needs. 30 – We're not talking about how cancer can be reversed naturally (it can) 31 – Helping parents raise their children away from drama / trauma 32 – ipads / electrical devices – living in an age of ‘hyper-distraction' – Staying focused in a Hyper World 33 – We get to be mindful about how we choose to focus. The brain is not an octopus.  How light affects our eyes 34 – Coached over 10,000 people / children 35 – Little things we can do / reduce cell phone usage, and EMFs – we must be mindful of this exposure. Studies are hushing it. 36 – We give bored children an ipad/put them in front of the TV. Children need to be taught to self-soothe. To sit in peace with themselves. 37 – how to replace poor “foods” with actual foods and reducing screen time in the family 38 – Example of not being an ‘ipad Dad' 39 – Observation of families all on their phones – parents and kids on phones in restaurants 40 – ADHD is not necessarily a chemical imbalance in brain 41 – Severely autistic child & oxygenated water 42 – An area of chemicals / pesticides / herbicides was left where boy was sat. Root cause: potato seeds – soaked in chemicals to protect the colours to last longer 44 – BIG POINT: Don't get overwhelmed. Take a deep breath. Trust. Trust the body's innate ability to heal. 45 – Contact Andrea via email: lifebydesignworks@gmail.com
