Hey hey dear blerdizens! We have a great episode for you all. We alluded to him multiple times. However, now is the time we do an official character study on the one and only Magneto! We discuss his very tragic origins and his cynical outlook. We go over his time as a supervillain, his time as a hero and leader of the X-Men, his backslide into villainy, and his redemption back to a hero. We discuss the real world implications and we finally answer the question that you don't want to miss out on: Is Magneto right?Merch Link: https://blerdcity.myshopify.com/
I'm joined by Sam McGowan, we get into everything from Grindr unhingedness to meat-tray premonitions, the curse of dating ugly men who still mistreat you, why Meghan Trainor has the gays in a chokehold, accidental comment-section wars, the insanity of AI boyfriends, head-canoes in prisons (don't ask), The Traitors lasagna discourse, and which one of us would survive an orgy invite we weren't invited to.Sam is equal parts comedian, philosopher, and reluctant therapist on Grindr, and this episode is full of the funniest stories you've ever heard about dating, sex, men, sausages on planes, childhood hallucinations, and being read to filth by strangers with no profile picture. We also discuss:• ChatGPT men giving themselves away with em dashes• Why gay dating red flags hit different• Emergency excuses to leave a date (including the best meat-tray escape of all time)• The psychology of wanting to “win” breakups• Why women can't have water until they're at least 6 months old (apparently)• Butter-measuring superpowers and niche X-Men abilities
Superhero narratives constantly wrestle with redemption—but what does it really mean when a villain joins the heroes? This episode digs into the complex ethics of villain redemption arcs and the roles heroes play in them, examining what separates genuine transformation from simple alliance-shifting. Taking inspiration from Anthony Gramuglia's YouTube video "Ranking Superheroes By How Many Villains They Redeemed," we explore what leads some heroes, from Spider-Man to the X-Men, to redeem more of their villains than others.Key Discussion Points:What's the difference between a villain becoming redeemed versus simply becoming an ally or antihero, and why does that distinction matter ethically? How do different heroes approach villain redemption, and what does Spider-Man's track record tell us about mercy versus enabling harm? Why do the X-Men recruit so many former villains, and does their approach to redemption actually work or just create moral hazards? How do we distinguish between genuine remorse and change versus villains who just switch sides for convenience or self-interest?The discussion examines how superhero narratives grapple with the challenging ethics of reformation, forgiveness, and what constitutes meaningful transformation. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. I have always been a fan of X-Men but this was a game that somehow always skipped my radar. Even though I love the previous game and the future game, this was the one that got away. This week I got to change to that. Here we experienced a refined X-Men experience that gives us a good a story and a very fun game. Here's a game that lets us play as a bunch of different X-Men and Brotherhood of Mutants. Come here what we thought of this title. Starring Mike Albertin, and Kyle Gorman. Power of X-Men: The Greatest Comic Book Podcast in All of the Multiverse!
We asked you to send in your boldest, spiciest, absolutely unfiltered hot takes — and wow, did you deliver.
Cyclops is Waiting for Me - An X-Men: The Animated Series Weekly Recap
How did we not realize that Jean Grey just woke up from her record setting fainting spell? And it isn't going well for her. She can't remember her own name. Archangel is after her. And Emma... Cooper and Nolan are going back to where it all began this week when they cover X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE! What could have been a meaningful stand-alone movie about Marvel's most popular mutant ended up feeling more like X-Men 4 thanks to several gratuitous character cameos. The less said about some of those the better, although they did give the guys plenty to get angry about. Throw in a bunch of awful CG, questionable casting, and the bastardization of multiple storylines, and you've got what basically amounts to a comic book fan's nightmare. So yeah, in case you couldn't tell the claws are DEFINITELY coming out; this episode (featuring a beer from the Balderdash Brewing Co.) will scratch you right where you itch.
2014 was a turning point for Marvel — and Axel Alonso was right in the middle of it.In this archival conversation, Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso sits down with me to break down exactly where the House of Ideas stood in 2014: the big swings, the new voices, the editorial gambles, and the seismic moves that were reshaping the entire line. We get into:The rise of the “All-New Marvel NOW!” eraHow Marvel was recruiting and developing its next wave of writers and artistsThe push toward diverse character spotlights like Kamala Khan, Miles Morales, and a newly elevated Carol DanversThe build-up toward Jonathan Hickman's Avengers mega-architecture and the early tremors leading to Secret Wars (2015)How editorial was navigating movies, TV, digital comics, and a rapidly changing readershipThe state of the X-Men and what Alonso could — and couldn't — say about their futureThe balance between legacy characters and new heroesMarvel's strategy for creator-owned-adjacent projects and keeping top talent in the foldIt's a sharp, candid snapshot of Marvel at a moment when everything was about to level up.If you love behind-the-scenes talk about how big superhero universes actually get made, this one is essential listening.
Let's head back to the 2000s to check in on X-Men Evolution!

Back in 1972, Marvel & DC published a crossover that was so secret, even they didn't know they'd published it!Rogue Marvel & DC writers Steve Englehart, Len Wein, & Gerry Conway conspired to have a crossover take place between their three magazines, Amazing Adventures #15 (featuring the X-Men's Beast and drawn by Bob Brown & Marie Severin), Justice League Of America #102 (drawn by Dick Dillin), and The Mighty Thor #207 (drawn by John Buscema) without telling their respective companies they were doing so.The backdrop for this storyline was Rutland, Vermont's annual Halloween festival, (a real-life event, by the way) which had many of the attendees decked out in superhero garb and Englehart, Wein, & Conway inserted themselves (and their respective wives and girlfriends) as characters who wind up as part of the adventure. Scooby-Doo style, the gang helps the superheroes vanquish their foes and Marvel and DC saved Halloween...without either of them knowing it. And it remained that way for years.Hosted by Chris Karam and Brad Page

To me, my X-Men! The New X-Men burst on the scene 50 years ago and gave us some iconic stories that are still being adapted today. Not to be outdone, the original X-Men formed a new team called X-Factor ten years later. This week we look back at the legendary team ups of these mutants and see how they have evolved. Jay and Josh are mutant and proud on Superhero Suite.
Look back on 50 years of X-Men and 40 years of X-Factor comics, both of which gave us some iconic stories and characters on Superhero Suite.
Jennifer Lawrence's breakthrough role in the 2010 drama Winter's Bone secured her first Academy Award nomination when she was just 20, and she won the Best Actress category two years later for Silver Linings Playbook. Since then, she has become one of the most prolific, critically acclaimed and highest paid actors in Hollywood as the star of The Hunger Games series and three X-Men movies. Other leading roles include American Hustle, Joy and, most recently, the psychological drama Die My Love.Jennifer talks to John Wilson about her childhood on her parents' farm in Kentucky. After being scouted by a modelling agency, she left school as a teenager and moved to New York to start working as a model and actor. She recalls how the film Taxi Driver, starring a young Jodie Foster, made a big impression on her as an aspiring actress and how Jodie Foster later became a role model when she directed Jennifer on the set of The Beaver. She also counts Gena Rowlands' performance in A Woman Under The Influence, written and directed by John Cassavetes, as an important inspiration, as well as working with directors David O Russell and Lynne Ramsay. Voice actor JP Karliak (Morph in X-Men '97, Gargamel and Razamel in Smurfs) joins us for a fascinating discussion about how nerdy media shapes our understanding of identity, community, and civic participation. As founder of Queer Vox, a nonprofit supporting LGBTQIA+ voice actors, and co-founder of NerdsVote, which works to get nerds involved in democracy, JP brings a unique perspective on how superhero stories and geek culture can serve as gateways to uncomfortable but necessary conversations about representation and social change.Key Discussion Points:How voice actors can use their "notable nerd" status to mobilize fan communities toward civic engagementWhy nerddom inherently connects to empathy and understanding otherness, particularly through franchises like X-MenWhat authentic casting means for LGBTQIA+ characters beyond performative diversityWhy seeking only comfort in entertainment prevents engagement with different perspectivesThe essential role of discomfort in growth and understandingJP brings depth and nuance to these topics through his experience voicing Morph, a non-binary shapeshifter in X-Men '97, while sharing insights about the voice acting industry and the importance of authentic representation both in front of and behind the microphone. The conversation weaves through representation, activism, and the power of storytelling to create change, ultimately highlighting how superhero narratives can serve as modern mythology that helps us process and progress through today's most challenging social issues.Guest Bio:JP Karliak is a veteran voice actor whose characters span animation, gaming, and anime. Notable roles include Morph in X-Men '97, Gargamel and Razamel in Smurfs (2025), Boss Baby in Netflix series, and the Joker in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. In anime, he's known for voicing Kozo Fuyutsuki in Netflix's Neon Genesis Evangelion dub. His gaming credits include N. Tropy in Crash Bandicoot titles and Wolfgang in the Skylanders series. As founder of Queer Vox and co-founder of NerdsVote, JP actively works to create positive change in both the voiceover industry and civic engagement.Connect with JP:WebsiteInstagramQueer VoxNerdsVote**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Brian and Judson celebrate the victory of mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani and the fact that friend-of-the-podcast Brandon Kyle Goodman has extended their run in HEAUX CHURCH off-Broadway at Ars Nova through November 21. Brian raves about the Broadway play Liberation by Bess Wohl. Judson's trick is a treat on Halloween. Brian prepares for a sex party by listening back to his own advice on a previous episode and discovers he may, in fact, be vers. After listening to the Hookup of the Week, the two wax nostalgic for their younger years, hooking up in bars. They are then joined by comedian, writer, and actor Jay Jurden, whose debut television special, “Yes, Ma'am,” is now streaming on Hulu. Jay discusses the journey to getting “Yes, Ma'am” on screen, why it was important for the special to be so sex-positive, the necessity of stand-up for marginalized audiences, the new hour he is taking on his “Nothing Special" tour, his 14-year relationship with his now husband, identifying as bisexual, his former career as a personal trainer, his possible future on Broadway, and his deep, queer connection to Marvel's X-Men. To cap off the episode, Jay helps Brian and Judson respond to a Go Ask Your Dad question from a listener who is hurt after his partner declines his request for sex, only to go and have a repeat hookup with someone else. Find Jay Jurden on all social media platforms at @jayjurden and stream his debut special, “Yes, Ma'am” on Hulu now.
