You won't find a more comprehensive resource on the topic of 72(t) plans and substantially equal periodic payments (SEPP). This little-known IRS provision gives you a perfectly legal way to access your retirement money before 59½ without the 10% penalty… and almost nobody in finance wants to touch it! So, Jackie brings back the one expert that lives and breathes 72(t)s, William (Bill) Stecker, CPA and founder of 72tcalc.com. Bill picks up where he left off when he last appeared on the show in 2025. He further explains the nuances of 72(t) plans and how to avoid common mistakes. Hear how 72(t)s can be incredibly powerful tools for early retirees, laid-off workers, and anyone ready to leave the traditional "hours-for-dollars" trade. This episode covers What a 72(t) or SEPP plan actually is Access to retirement accounts before age 59½ without the 10% penalty tax Why so many financial professionals hesitate to work with 72(t) plans  The minimum plan period and why modifying a SEPP can become extremely expensive  How to determine how much early retirement income you actually need The differences between the Rule of 55 and a 72(t) strategy  Why Bill usually prefers moving money from employer "plan land" into "IRA land"  How brokerage accounts, Roth contributions, part-time work, and SEPPs can work together  Why inflation and unexpected expenses need to be built into an early-retirement income plan  How splitting an IRA into separate accounts can create flexibility and isolate potential mistakes This is the first part of a 2-part episode. In this episode, I'm diving into the phrase "Release the Goldmine Within" — why I put it on the House of Abundance T-shirt and what it means to me. I share my personal journey with money, from the early days of my business when finances were tight to the breakthrough that came from shifting my consciousness. I talk about the books and teachers that transformed my relationship with money, including Florence Shinn, Napoleon Hill, Marianne Williamson, and John Randolph Price, and how the affirmation "Whatever I spend, I make more" went from feeling silly to say out loud to becoming my lived reality. I also share the desert metaphor that inspired the House of Abundance t-shirt — how I learned to see abundance in a landscape that once felt barren, and how that same shift in perception can transform your finances, business, and life. Your weekly guide to the music biz and how it all works. This week, Stu and Joe wade into share prices, EU Law, and German legal judgements... NO WAIT, COME BACK! These are all actually really interesting insights into modern pop music and how it connects with the humans who make it and enjoy it (honest.)Plus, TPOM Superfans get to hear Joe and Stu go deep – some may say too deep – into minor league Welsh football clubs seeking musical sponsorship opportunities. In this week's show:Universal Music Group is worth now than it was at the start of this year, based on its share price, and Spotify wobbled too… so why are people wondering whether music may not be making as much money as it could - and what is Spotify up to with independent labels?Welsh Ardal League South East football club Cwmbran Celtic have some new shirts for sale. Why are we telling you about this? Well, they feature some bands you might know…We need to talk about ‘Rubberz'. No, not erasers and – for our American listeners – not condoms either… it's an (allegedly!!!) AI-generated song that is becoming a cross-over hit. There's a lot going on with AI-music company Suno at the moment: a big legal ruling in Germany; its latest promises about how much it supports human artistry; and a very unexpected move into… vinyl! Two things that music publications BrooklynVegan, AltPress, Goldmine and Revolver have in common: first, they're all owned by Live Nation, which many people didn't realise. And second, “nearly all” their staff have reportedly been laid off. Is this the final nail in the coffin for music journalism?LISTENER LETTERS: after last week's Lock-In look at expensive Discogs records sales, James The Joiner gets in touch about his weirdly and unfortunately mis-pressed Blur LP – so will it be worth LOADS of money or NOT MUCH AT ALL? We investigate. And in the special post-show lock-in section just for our Patreon Superfans, Stu and Joe prop themselves up at the bar – in this week's bonus material: Mold Alexandra, Cefn Druids and Mumbles Rangers: what other rock/Welsh football sponsorships would you like to see? Who needs MTV when you can have Green Day TV? Although the lineup of artists featured is, well, quite a lot smaller than traditional music-TV channels…We've been talking about prediction-market Kalshi in recent episodes, and it turns out they're also betting on Spotify's financial results… [we also check if they were right.]===================================As ever, we welcome your feedback, emails and – in particular – any questions you might have about how the music biz works!Email us: thepriceofmusicpodcast@gmail.comSee you next week!Stuart and Joe======TPOM online: http://tpom.uk/Support The Price of Music on Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/ThePriceofMusicFollow Stuart on X - @stuartdredgeFollow The Price of Music on X - @PriceofMusicpodFor sponsorship opportunities, please email - joe@musically.com

A green pool is gross, loud, and inconvenient, but it can also be the best “proof of skill” marketing you'll ever earn. We talk through why green pool cleanups and algae removal can elevate your pool service business, how the dramatic before-and-after builds instant trust, and why a single turnaround can open the door to better clients and even commercial opportunities when you're properly certified and insured. We get practical about the decision-making that separates profitable pool pros from burned-out ones: asking the customer why the pool turned green, spotting red flags in the story, and deciding whether the job should become a weekly pool maintenance account. If it's not the kind of customer or equipment setup you want long term, we cover two clean exits that protect your reputation: being honest about your schedule or pricing the job high enough that you either get paid for the pain or you walk away.We also dig into what makes a green pool cleanup succeed or fail after the water turns blue. Filters with old cartridges or worn DE grids, sand that needs changing, and pumps that can't run hard for long can undo great chemistry and make it look like you “failed” when the equipment was the real culprit. You'll hear how to set expectations, bundle bids that include needed upgrades, and use simple math to focus on the real win: converting a one-time cleanup into recurring revenue for your service route. If this helps, subscribe, share it with a pool pro, and leave a review with the one green pool rule you never break. We break down how green pool cleanups can make a pool service business look like the obvious choice, while still being one of the hardest jobs to execute smoothly. We share how we assess the real cause, price the work, and turn a one-time algae cleanup into a long-term weekly service account.  • using green-to-blue turnarounds to build trust fast  • documenting before-and-after proof for websites, SEO, and Google Ads  • asking why the pool turned green and spotting red flags  • deciding if the customer is worth keeping long term  • declining jobs without looking unreliable, including strategic overbids  • offering a cleanup discount to close weekly pool service  • doing the revenue math on recurring service versus a one-off cleanup  • requiring the right equipment, including new filter elements and reliable pumps  • setting expectations so equipment limits do not damage your reputation  Are you a pool service pro looking to take your business to the next level? Don briefly chased a dark figure into the woods, while Tina later witnessed an enormous humanoid silhouette moving nearby. The situation escalated the following morning when the figure appeared dangerously close to their camp. Tina fired a shotgun into the air, and the couple retreated to their cabin before seeking help from a neighboring miner. He revealed that he had experienced similar harassment in the area. Despite the mine producing good gold, Don and Tina decided the money was not worth the risk and quit. Fortunately, the owner treated them fairly and paid them for their work.Fred then rshares Daniel's experience while trout fishing along the Tickchik River roughly twenty-five years ago. While waiting near a thick stand of willows, Daniel became overwhelmed by the feeling that something was watching him. After firing warning shots, he spotted a tall, black humanoid silhouette standing near the brush. Moments later, the figure crashed through the vegetation and disappeared. Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube Email BrianJoin Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.Have you had a Bigfoot encounter, Sasquatch sighting, Dogman experience, or other cryptid or paranormal encounter? In this sponsored episode of the Anglotopia Podcast — brought to you by Findmypast, one of the world's leading family history websites — Jonathan Thomas sits down with Jen Baldwin, Research Specialist at Findmypast and a professional genealogist since 2010, for a warm, practical, and genuinely inspiring introduction to British and Irish family history research. Jen specializes in British social history and the British diaspora — exactly the intersection where family stories meet the great sweep of British history — and her own family tree reaches back to London in 1635. In this first of two episodes, Jen and Jonathan cover everything a complete beginner needs to get started: why family history is so addictive, how to interview living relatives before the memories are lost, what records to look for at home, the cornerstone British records (civil registration from 1837, the census from 1841, parish records, military records, and the extraordinary British Newspaper Archive), the common mistakes that trip up beginners, how to track ancestors who came to America via Canada or Australia, the surprising political dramas hidden inside census returns, and three quick wins that any listener can complete this week. A second episode, covering deeper research and connecting your family story to the wider sweep of British history, is coming soon. Links Sponsor Findmypast — Start Your Free Trial (US) Findmypast — Start Your Free Trial (UK) British Newspaper Archive (via Findmypast) Findmypast Crime & Criminal Records The Family History Of — Findmypast Podcast Was Justice Served? Podcast — Jen Baldwin Also Mentioned Birmingham Back to Backs — National Trust The Fatal Shore by Robert Hughes — Convict Transportation to Australia Friends of Anglotopia Club Takeaways Family history research is genuinely addictive — not because of the pedigree chart but because of the moment when a name becomes a person: someone with a job, a neighborhood, neighbors, a dog, and a life that intersects with historical events you already care about. There is no such thing as a boring ancestor. Agricultural laborers, mill workers, sailors, and servants all lived lives of remarkable complexity — moving seasonally, navigating economic upheaval, living through wars and weather — and the records to explore those lives exist and are increasingly accessible online. The golden rule of genealogy is to start with yourself and work backward one generation at a time. "Slow is fast" — taking time to verify each connection saves hours of untangling mistakes later. Talk to your oldest or most vulnerable living relatives now, before the memories are lost. Don't ask them to recite facts — ask them to tell stories. Put a photograph in front of them. Ask about their first car, their father's job, the family rumors. That's where the genealogical gold is hidden. Check your own home before you open a single database. Shoeboxes of photographs, greeting cards, family bibles, baptism certificates, postcards, and funeral cards all contain clues. Even a photo of someone standing on a porch with a dog can crack a family mystery open. Civil registration in England and Wales (from 1837) is one of the most powerful genealogical tools in the world — a universal national system that records every birth, marriage, and death, and is far more consistent than the fragmented state-by-state US system. Each certificate chains to the next, revealing a new generation with every document. The 1911 and 1921 censuses of England and Wales are particularly rich — the first preserved in original household handwriting, the second containing post-WWI data on orphans, divorce, and political protests from veterans demanding the "homes fit for heroes" that were promised and never delivered. The 1931 census was pulped for the war and the 1941 census was never taken, making 1921 the last available for a generation. The British Newspaper Archive (accessible via Findmypast) is a partnership with the British Library covering millions of newspaper images from the early 1700s to modern day — not just the major national titles but tiny regional papers, sports papers, political papers, and even a newspaper devoted entirely to cats. It is where ancestors come alive as personalities, not just data points. The Findmypast crime and criminal records collection is the largest of its kind available online, and tracking a transported convict from a British court through the Australian records is very achievable — especially given the extraordinary work done by genealogy communities in Australia and New Zealand to preserve those stories. Three quick wins for after this episode: call the oldest family member you can and record their stories; search for one relative in a census on Findmypast; and start a basic family tree with your parents and grandparents. All three are achievable this week. Soundbites "When we do family history, we think we're researching individual people. But what we're really researching is history. We're researching the people who lived that history in the moment. That's what makes it addictive — that high of discovering the name of the person you've been looking for for five years, and then going, okay, where did he get his shoes?" — Jen on why family history is about so much more than a pedigree chart. "There is no such thing as a boring ancestor. Get that out of your head right now. Some of the most interesting people I've encountered are the ones people say are not very interesting. Agricultural laborers are a great example. There are thousands of them. And they lived a really incredible life." — Jen on the myth of the uninteresting ancestor. "People remember things with all five senses. Put a photograph down in front of them and say, what do you remember about this day? Or ask about their first car, their father's job, the family rumors. If you can get them into telling stories, that's where those little nuggets of data come from." — Jen on interviewing living relatives. "In 1911, there were hundreds of women across the country who were not listed in the census because they would write instead: no vote, no census. If I'm not allowed to vote, then you don't get to count me as a citizen on your government form." — Jen on the suffragists' census boycott. "You have seven different households at the same address. They had a routine of who got to use the bed and when. While one person was at work, the other family was in the kitchen, family three was in the bedroom sleeping, family four was doing whatever. They worked off a rotation." — Jen on what the 1921 census revealed about Birmingham's back-to-back houses. "Slow is fast in genealogy. If you take your time and really make sure you have these relationships correct, future you will thank you significantly. Nobody begins with 500 ancestors. Everybody starts with one person — and that's you." — Jen's single most important piece of advice for beginners. "Common sense is queen in genealogy. If you have a Jonathan Thomas born in Yorkshire and a Jonathan Thomas born in Devon, but the whole family is in Yorkshire the whole time, why would someone suddenly be born in Devon? Let that common sense guide you." — Jen on avoiding the most common beginner mistake. "Just to compare with the United States — every state records these things differently, possibly every county within every state. But in England and Wales, it's universal. Everybody goes through the same national system. It doesn't matter where in the country they are born or died. They are findable." — Jen on why civil registration is such a powerful tool for British research. "There's a seven-year-old who stole a pound and was transported to Australia. A single pound. That's probably one of the saddest ones I've ever found." — Jen on the human cost visible in the criminal records. "No one knows your family better than you do. You won't find it without sitting down and doing it. It's exciting and it's history and it's fun and it's addictive and it can be very challenging — it's like playing detective all the time. But it is a lifelong hobby that I guarantee will give you a lot of satisfaction." — Jen's closing encouragement to anyone who's nervous about starting. Send us Fan MailJulia Lurie is a senior reporter at Mother Jones, a nonprofit American magazine that focuses on news, commentary, and investigative journalism. In 2023, Julia wrote a story entitled, "Inside the Psychiatric Hospitals where foster kids are Gold Mine." The article was largely an exposé of the horrible history in Alaska of foster children being placed at our short-term psychiatric facility for far too long and sometimes when they did not need to be there at all.  Her reporting lit a fire under me to file a bill to prevent this harm from happening in the future. And last week, my House Bill 36 became law. This bill requires foster kids placed in a short term psychiatric facility to have a court hearing within 7 days to ensure that they actually need to be there. But Julia's reporting hasn't just led to new laws in Alaska. Her PBS News Hour report on Utah's adoption system along with her Mother Jones piece, "Cradle and All: the devastating cost of Utah's thriving adoption industry," spurred the Utah legislature to implement a massive overhaul of their adoptions statutes this year. Finally, today is July 1, and my multi-year quest to raise the age of consent in Alaska was realized. Julia and I finish our talk today discussing her 2025 article, "The unflinching courage of Taylor Cadle," which tells the story of a 12-year-old girl in Polk County Florida who reported to police that she was sexually assaulted by her adoptive father. Police took the adoptive father's side, Taylor was charged with making a false accusation, and was forced to write a letter to her father apologizing to him. The next time he sexually assaulted her, Taylor recorded it with her phone. This time law enforcement believed her. Warning to listeners: we will be discussing child abuse on today's episode. Listen to these previous episodes featuring former Alaska foster youth:202420252026

Barry Strauss introduces Cleopatra, the Queen of Egypt and member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, which turned Egyptinto a Mediterranean "gold mine." She was a "tough player" who survived deadly dynastic intrigues to secure her throne. Her spectacular entry at Tarsus on a perfumed barge wowed Antony, establishing a partnership built on both romance and finance. Egypt served as a vital treasury for Antony's ambitions, as the Romans had long viewed the country as a bank. A key political asset was her son, Caesarion, whom she claimed was the son of Julius Caesar—a direct threat to Octavian's legitimacy. Strauss highlights Cleopatra's intelligence through the story of her dissolving a pearl in vinegar to host the world's most expensive dinner. While Roman propaganda painted Alexandria as "effeminate" and "comic," it was actually the scientific and cultural capital of the ancient world. (2/8)1572 CONSTANTINOPLE
