Fixing growth systems from the inside out - Ekaterina Gamsriegler (Mygroove)

Apptivate

Ekaterina Gamsriegler, former Head of Growth and Marketing at MyGroove and longtime advisor across music, education, and health apps, joins Apptivate to discuss why sustainable growth depends on systems rather than isolated wins. The conversation explores the nature of modern growth funnels, how creative strategy impacts retention and churn downstream, and why many teams optimize acquisition while misunderstanding activation and long-term value. Ekaterina and Taylor also discuss localization as a full-funnel growth lever, pricing strategy during high-intent seasonal periods, the realities of founder-led and offline growth channels, and how mapping the complete user journey can uncover hidden bottlenecks that data alone often misses. Questions addressed in this episode Why does Ekaterina compare growth systems to a house of cards? How do creative strategies affect retention and subscriber churn? What mistakes do apps make during seasonal growth periods like Q5? How should marketers evaluate long-term value instead of short-term ROAS? Why can localization improve the entire growth funnel? How did MyGroove grow paying subscribers 10x in one year? What role should brand, PR, and offline channels play in app growth? How should teams define activation properly? What should marketers focus on during their first 90 days at a company? How can apps balance credibility with accessibility for beginners? This allows you to see where the bottlenecks are in your journey.” Mentioned in this episode MyGroove Ekaterina on Linkedin

In this special live episode of Destination Discourse, recorded on stage at the Destinations International Marketing and Communications Summit in Cleveland, Ohio, Adam Stoker and Stuart Butler tackle the questions the industry keeps dancing around: Why does a DMO actually exist, who is its primary customer, and if funding disappeared tomorrow, who would fight to bring it back? With live audience polling and real-time debate from DMO leaders across the country, the conversation cuts through the industry's tendency toward polite agreement and confronts an uncomfortable truth — as AI begins to disintermediate destination websites and reshape the entire travel research funnel, DMOs that have built their value proposition around web traffic alone may be sitting on a house of cards. It's one of the most candid conversations in destination marketing you'll hear this year. Subscribe to our newsletter! “I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again. Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm.” (2 Corinthians 11:23–27 NLT) Sometimes as believers we tend to be spiritual lightweights. At the first indication of a hardship or difficulty, we fall like a house of cards. We say, “I didn’t sign up for this. I don’t want difficulty; I just want to get along with everyone.” But if you’re a true follower of Christ, there will be suffering in your life. The apostle Paul was certainly a true follower. And here’s how he described his experience: “I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm” (2 Corinthians 11:23–27 NLT). You’ll find no trace of self-pity or resentment in his words. Paul understood the role that suffering plays in the lives of believers. The harsh reality is this: If you’re going to be used of God, then you’re going to be attacked. If you live as a real Christian, you will find yourself at odds with the world around you. You’ll face opposition, some of it intense. Think of suffering as a spiritual badge of honor. In fact, if you don’t experience at least occasional suffering or hardship in your life, you might want to examine your Christian walk. And keep this in mind: The life that Christ offers is well worth any hardship. Reflection question: How can you develop a proper perspective toward suffering? You can be wildly successful and still be quietly falling apart inside. Joel Kinnaman has appeared in some of the most talked-about shows in Hollywood. He has starred in The Killing, Robocop, House of Cards, Altered Carbon, and is currently in his fifth season of For All Mankind. And he will be the first to tell you that none of that made the war inside his head any quieter. Before every live theater performance for three straight years, he threw up. He kept a bucket backstage. The negative voices in his mind were relentless, and he spent years drinking heavily, using drugs, and force-feeding himself in a desperate attempt to hide the shame he felt about a physical condition that had left him feeling deformed since childhood. What changed everything was not a breakthrough moment. It was a choice to stop running from the fear and bury himself in the work. He memorized a 105-minute one-man show in 10 days, playing 16 different characters, and walked on stage without throwing up for the first time. That experience taught him something he still carries: preparation is armor. The deeper a role is in your bones, the more freedom you have to be alive inside it. He is still working on the personal side. He describes himself as a disaster in relationships, not from a lack of care, but from years of treating his career as the only thing that could not touch him. He talks about wanting to find the balance between the structure that builds trust and the childlike wonder that keeps him creative. That tension is where this conversation lives. Joel's IMDB In this episode you will: Understand how shame about a physical condition called pectus excavatum triggered an eating disorder that took years to unpack and overcome Discover how Joel turned debilitating stage fright and a 3-year pattern of pre-performance vomiting into a breakthrough that rewired his relationship with fear Learn why preparation is the most underrated performance skill and why Joel insists on being at least 3 nights ahead on every scene he shoots Hear why Joel sees himself as a different man in his career versus his personal relationships, and what he believes he needs to change to close that gap Explore how Joel uses psilocybin experiences, breathwork, and the Buddhist concept of shepa to create space between triggers and reaction in his daily life For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1933 For more Greatness text PODCAST to +1 (614) 350-3960 Follow The Daily Motivation for essential highlights from The School of Greatness More SOG episodes we think you'll love: Lewis Howes Solo [7 Habits To Be Happier] Josh Groban The Jonas Brothers TOPICS Joel Kinnaman, stage fright, eating disorder recovery, pectus excavatum, performance anxiety, preparation as armor, shepa, psilocybin, self-loathing, personal growth, For All Mankind, relationship consistency Get more from Lewis! Episode 200 is here, and I can't think of a more fitting person to join me than my husband, Andrew. When the podcast hit 100 episodes back in 2024, Andrew came on for a conversation about marriage, parenting, personal growth, and the life we were building together. Now, 100 episodes later, we're revisiting that conversation through the lens of everything that has changed since then: a whole new baby, a new podcast name, a much more colorful house, a lot more trees planted, and a wild amount of personal, spiritual, and identity-level evolution. In this episode, Andrew and I talk honestly about the deconstruction journeys we have each been on over the last few years — separately, simultaneously, and eventually together. We get into Andrew's experience being raised in a very black-and-white, fundamentalist Christian environment, the conversations that started poking holes in what he had always been taught, and what it felt like when the “house of cards” of certainty began to fall. We also talk about my own experience with religious deconstruction, spiritual awakening, reclaiming my voice, and the fear that came with letting my work become more honest, more expansive, and more fully aligned. This conversation is also about marriage in the middle of massive identity evolution. What happens when one or both people in a relationship start questioning the beliefs, roles, rules, expectations, and “truths” they were handed? What does support look like when you don't necessarily understand or agree with everything your partner is exploring? How do you keep choosing each other when so much is changing? Andrew shares his perspective on what it has been like to witness my Wild & Waking journey, what has shifted in our parenting, and why support doesn't always have to mean shared belief. We also, because obviously, wander into farming, ancestral healing, Reiki, spirituality, four-kid chaos, the way men can apparently live with everything being on fire, and the deep generational ties between land, work, family, and identity. It's tender, funny, honest, and very us — a conversation about marriage, religious deconstruction, spiritual growth, farming, parenting, and the ongoing wild work of becoming who we really are.In this episode, we explore:Celebrating 200 episodes of the podcast and what has changed since Andrew joined me for episode 100 back in 2024The evolution from Gather in Growth to Wild & Waking and how that shift reflects a much deeper personal and spiritual journeyWhat it has looked like for both of us to go through religious deconstruction, spiritual awakening, and identity evolution at the same time, but not always togetherWhat it felt like for me to reclaim my voice, stop holding back, and allow my work to become more honest, bold, and fully alignedThe fear of being misunderstood in a small town, rural community, or traditional environment when your beliefs and identity begin to evolveHow the Wild & Waking journey mirrors the process of unraveling old conditioning, remembering who you are, reclaiming your voice, and rising into a more embodied lifeWhat marriage can look like when one or both partners begin to change, question, expand, and evolveHow to talk to a partner when you're exploring new ideas, changing old beliefs, or entering a personal growth journey they may not fully understandHow generational patterns around farming, work, worth, time, land, and family continue to shape identityAndrew's experience with ancestral healing and the surprising connections between farming, lineage, energy, and inherited beliefsWhy growth often begins by asking: Is this belief still true for me, or was it simply handed to me?The messy, funny, tender reality of becoming new versions of ourselves while building a marriage, raising children, and living on the farmWhat it means to keep choosing each other through deconstruction, spiritual growth, identity shifts, and the wild work of becomingBe sure to hit subscribe so you never miss the latest episode!Connect with Emily:Website: www.EmilyReuschel.comInstagram: @emilyreuschelFacebook: Emily ReuschelLinkedIn: Emily ReuschelJoin my Book Insiders List: Sign up here!Resources and Links:Episode 100 | A Chat with My Husband Andrew: Farming, Marriage, Fatherhood, and GrowthSign up here to get the inside scoop to my book writing journey!Book me as a speaker for your next event - email inquiries to emilyreuschel@gmail.com or schedule a call hereWild & Waking – Produced by Jill Carr Podcasting | Learn More

Editors - Laura Zempel, ACE and Lauren Connelly, ACE Although BEEF - Season 2 editors Laura Zempel and Lauren Connelly are working together for the first time, this is Laura's second season working on the series.  But despite being new to one another, Laura's and Lauren's talents seamlessly combined to tackle a complex, character-driven "slow burn" with multiple storylines that required a delicate balancing of tone, including both dark comedy and psychological drama. Created by Korean director Lee Sung Jin (Sonny Lee) for Netflix, Season 2 of BEEF stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan as Joshua Martin and Lindsay Crane-Martin, and Cailee Spaeny and Charles Melton as Ashley and Austin, two couples; the poor latter two blackmailing the rich former two, using footage Ashley shot of a heated argument which would threaten their image.  Similar to Season 1, this incident escalates into a prolonged feud and a game of cat-and-mouse...minus one dog. LAURA ZEMPEL In addition to her Emmy®-winning work on BEEF - Season 1, Laura's skills as an editor can be seen in another Netflix series, SIRENS (2025).  She has also worked on EUPHORIA (2019-22), DISPATCHES FROM ELSEWHERE (2020) and ROOM 104 (2017-19).  Prior to that, she assisted on HOUSE OF CARDS (2014), DEXTER (2011-13) and IF I CAN DREAM (2010). LAUREN CONNELLY, ACE Originally from Chantilly, Virginia, Lauren graduated from The University of Southern California with a B.A. in Cinema-Television Production.  Past credits include television shows such as MO on Netflix, GASLIT on Starz, MASTERS OF SEX on Showtime, THE STRAIN on FX, and THE SON on AMC.  Recent feature films include SITTING IN BARS WITH CAKE for Amazon Studios, A TOURIST'S GUIDE TO LOVE on Netflix, and Rodrigo Garcia's FOUR GOOD DAYS, which premiered at Sundance.   Visit ExtremeMusic for all your production audio needs Hear Laura discuss her work on BEEF - Season 1 and SIRENS.

Jonathan Schanzer discusses the leadership vacuum in Tehran, noting that decisions are currently made by a chaotic committee of revolutionary figures. (3/16)Israel engages in "constant gardening" to clear Hezbollah threats south of the Litani River. Jonathan Schanzer labels Hamas a spent force, having lost over half its territory and significant rocket-firing capabilities since the conflict began. He also notes reports of blatant Chinese bribery and intervention within the U.S. government. He identifies SpaceX as the true leader, likely reaching the moon with far superior, sustainable technology. AHmad Shariwah explains that both Hezbollah and Iran gain from inciting chaos and instability within the Syrian regime.

James Scott introduces General Haywood Hansel, an intellectual strategist tasked with using the expensive and "buggy" B-29 Superfortress to destroy Japan's industrial capacity in late 1944. Hansel is a pioneer of high-altitude daylight strategic bombing, a theory suggesting that precision strikes on refineries and bridges can collapse a modern economy like a "house of cards." However, the European campaign proved this strategy was often a long, painful slog rather than a quick fix. Hansel faces immense pressure from General Hap Arnold, the commander of the Army Air Forces, who is desperate to prove air power can be an independent, war-winning arm. Arnold, suffering from multiple heart attacks due to the stress of competing with the Army and Navy, views the war against Japan as a "blank canvas" for the Air Force. Consequently, Hansel is expected to bomb Japan out of the war to avoid a catastrophic ground invasion. 1/81945 OPPENHEIMER AND GROVES

What makes a thought leader's message impossible to ignore? In this episode, Peter Winick sits down with Kait LeDonne, a personal branding expert who helps aspiring thought leaders sharpen the message behind their work. Kait's view is clear: without radically clear messaging, everything else becomes a house of cards. Content, books, speaking, social media, and sales all weaken when the core idea is fuzzy. Kait breaks down why so many experts struggle to explain what they do. They go too broad. They try to serve everyone. They talk about problems in language their audience would never use. The result is technically accurate messaging that fails to move the market. Real thought leadership starts by knowing who you serve, what pain you solve, and how that pain sounds in the buyer's own words. Peter and Kait explore why pain is not fearmongering. Used well, it is empathy. It says, "I see you." It pulls someone out of the noise long enough to pay attention. In a crowded market, the right message does not just describe an idea. It creates recognition. They also dig into the role of personal brand in thought leadership. Kait makes a powerful point: the personal brand can be the Trojan horse for the IP. The person creates trust. The idea earns traction. Then, at scale, the thought can become bigger than the thinker. That is when a platform starts becoming transferable, teachable, and commercially durable. This conversation also looks at where thought leaders have permission to play. Trust is specific. An audience may follow you deeply in one lane, but not in every lane. The strongest platforms know their boundaries. They know what the market wants from them. They know when the founder should be the star, and when the IP needs to take center stage. For authors, speakers, consultants, founders, and experts building a thought leadership business, this episode is a reminder that clarity is not cosmetic. It is strategy. The sharper the message, the stronger the platform. The stronger the platform, the easier it becomes to create revenue, scale impact, and build something that can outgrow the individual behind it. Three Key Takeaways: • Clear messaging comes first. Without a sharp message, content, books, speaking, and sales efforts become unstable. • Pain creates relevance. Strong thought leadership names the audience's real problem in language they would actually use. • Personal brand should lead to scalable IP. The person builds trust, but the goal is for the idea to become teachable, transferable, and bigger than the individual. For a deeper dive into personal branding and thought leadership, listen to our conversation with William Arruda. Like this episode, William's conversation explores how clarity, consistency, and focus turn expertise into a recognizable brand. Both episodes look at what it takes to move from being known for what you do to being known for the value of your ideas. Together, these episodes give you a practical look at how to sharpen your message, build trust with the right audience, and create a personal brand that supports a scalable thought leadership platform.
