It's Pass the Mic where we invite a talented guest with a great story to join us on the pod. Today we have Blake Pfeil, the creator of the award-winning All-American Ruins, which was recently an Official Select at On Air Fest in LA. Blake hosts "The Pfeil File" on Radio Kingston/WKNY (107.9 FM/1490 AM in the Hudson Valley, NY) and serves as the Operations & Programs Manager at TMI Project, where he also produces The TMI Project Story Hour, which recently won the highest honor at the International Women's Podcast Awards. Blake is also an associate producer for season 5 of History Colorado's Lost Highways, holds an MA in Arts Entrepreneurship from Purchase College, and is an alumni of the Audio Podcast Fellowship at Stony Brook University.
In the penultimate episode of our second season, we're looking at the experiences and representation of Traumatic Brain Injuries, or TBIs with our guest, Naomi Mellor. Naomi is an equine veterinarian and podcaster, who not only runs a podcast production company but also founded the amazing International Women's Podcast Awards. We discuss how a TBI can impact you with symptoms like headaches, neuro exhaustion, double vision, depth perception issues, sensory stimulation overload, and how Naomi spent 23 hours a day in bed after her accident. Lastly, we talk about the representation of TBIs in film and TV and how Naomi would love to see more stories about the subtlety and variety of the effects of TBIs and what the long-term impact is on your brain, body, and mental health. We also talk about the film Causeway and how it is one of the few films dealing with some of the lasting effects of TBIs. Ler a notícia completa Ler segunda notícia HOJE NO GIRO SOBRE PESSOAS QUE FAZEM A MÍDIA: 09 – Na semana passada, o podcast Hoje Tem lançou o seu videocast no YouTube. Just because you build it does not mean they will come, which is why active marketing and promotion needs to be a crucial component to your podcast strategy. In this episode with podcast publicist Lauren Passell, we not only uncover her top strategies for attracting new listeners at your initial podcast launch and on an ongoing basis, but we also dissect the exact strategies used to promote the rebrand of Podfluencer Society. Tune in to hear what strategies are working (and not working) for Lauren's clients; how I stayed organized while working through a rebrand checklist of nearly 400 line items leading into my rebrand announcement; the major mistake I made when submitting to be featured by the major listening directories; the surprising marketing tactic that yielded the best immediate results (and that I almost didn't do); and so much more! Lauren Passell is the founder of Tink Media, a marketing and publicity champion for creators, with a focus on podcasters and podcast outreach. Firmly believing in audience-first publicity – whether that be a book, podcast, comedy set, or album – Tink helps authors, comedians, podcasters, thought leaders and other creators help get their stories discovered by the people who need to hear them most. A respected and acclaimed leader in the podcasting space, Lauren is the editor of Podcast the Newsletter and Podcast Marketing Magic, the co-host of the podcast discovery podcast Feed the Queue, and she writes about podcasts for the Lifehacker blog. She has spoken about podcast marketing for Radio Bootcamp, SXSW, Podcast Movement, Podfest, London Podcast Festival and more. My guest today is a woman I met a couple of years ago whilst wearing a delicious pair of sequinned dungarees and accepting an award at the International Women's Podcast Awards. Her name is Annabelle Buckland, and she's an radio host, podcast producer and general audio whizzo. She also has ADHD. We've discussed a lot of things on this podcast over the last 5 years, but the impact of an adult diagnosis of ADHD on career and working life is one that so far we haven't touched on, so I'm pleased that we're diving into that today. If you need more information or are affected by anything you've heard today, I've popped plenty of links in the show notes with information and support. Above all though, Buckers is hilarious and thoughtful, and an amazing interviewee. We talked about her early obsession with dental hygiene, why going touni isn't always a dream choice and about the progression of women in audio. Enjoy this one. This is Part Two of my chat with Sam Baines, my first guest for Season 6 of the podcast, and a woman that I've know for a few years after she was shortlisted at the inaugural International Women's Podcast Awards back in 2021. It's fitting that she's first this season, because she's been the first woman to do a few other things too. Sam is an award-winning comedian, podcaster, author, actor, broadcaster and general legend. In 2014 she won the Funny Women Awards, and subsequently went on to scoop of the 2015 ‘What the Frock' Best Newcomer Award. But that's not all. As an adult, Sam experienced hearing loss, and is now a deaf activist, hearing aid wearer, and an ambassador for the RNID.She's written two children's books, Harriet Versus The Galaxy and The Night The Moon Went Out, and she tells me in this conversation about how she got her first book deal (spoiler alert: she wrote it without an official offer). Her new book, Living With Hearing Loss and Deafness, is available to pre-order now. As well as all this, she's got an award-winning podcast, The Divorce Social, discussing, surprise, surprise, divorce, and her acting credits include The Crown, Call the Midwife, and Magic Mike Live in the West End. There is nothing this woman can't do.We covered SO much ground in this chat, which was recorded aaaages ago live at The Podcast Show - basically I had to give myself a good kick up the arse to get the podcast moving again in 2023, so that's entirely on me. There was so much good stuff that I cut it in two. This is part two. Enjoy. And you might have heard that there's an unwritten 30-second rule – that's all the time you've got. But you can get away with a lot longer lead if you create suspense. How can you voice a script naturally, and avoid that awful “readerly” quality? Take a tip from Laura's Broadway actor brother: Stop focusing on the words in every sentence. Instead, focus on the whole thought you're conveying. At some point, you'll need to grapple with how much of yourself to share with your listeners. This is a big part of finding your voice. There are huge payoffs to sharing parts of yourself…and this is a question that you may need to wrestle with over and over again.More takeaways coming soon! For our latest season of the Media Voices Podcast, kindly sponsored by Poool, we'll be publishing ten episodes exploring the biggest trends of 2022 and how they affect publishers; from subscriptions and membership to advertising, platforms, emerging technology and more. Our sixth episode looks at the world of podcasting, from how publishers are refocusing strategies on engaging superfans to the growing popularity of video podcasts. Many publishers were enticed into podcasting by the promise of high listener numbers and the opportunity to grow their audience outside of the usual channels. While the latter proved true, the year has proved to be something of a reality check for those seeking millions of avid listeners and subsequent ad revenue riches. That's no bad thing. What it has led to is a realisation that podcasts are best used to serve the superfans. Monetisation and growth strategies have evolved to match these new aims, whether that be high-value sponsorship packages for small B2B podcasts, or shows used as a member-only benefit. Another surprising trend this year has been the rise in popularity of podcast consumption via YouTube. From simple audio exports with just a logo on to full studio filming of podcasts being recorded, the platform is used by 58% of people in the US to consume podcasts. This has put pressure on publishers to look at video options for their shows, which can be a complex and potentially costly endeavour. Although the podcast format is an old one, there is still room for change and improvement, most notably in discovery. Despite the best efforts of the big platforms like Spotify and Apple, and smaller apps like GoodPods, it is still difficult for listeners to connect with shows that they might potentially enjoy. This is an area still ripe for innovation over the next few years. To discuss 2022's biggest podcast trends we're joined this week by Naomi Mellor, producer and host of multiple podcasts including Smashing The Ceiling, and founder of The Skylark Collective and the International Women's Podcast Awards. This topic will be one of the chapters we explore in detail as part of our Media Moments 2022 report, launching on November 30th. Find out more and pre-register here to receive the report. This season of Media Voices is sponsored by Poool, the Membership and Subscription Suite used by over 120 publishers from around the world. The team behind Poool are industry experts who have put everything they know into the product, ready to respond to your ‘how' of launching & developing a reader revenue strategy. poool.tech | @PooolTech

If you listen to this podcast you must know that we both love to converse, ask questions, travel down hypothetical routes, and learn things about each other and other people. Actually, did you know that according to a study by Marilyn and her team at Cosmic Centaurs: the more team members share mutual knowledge the more they are happy and perform better at work. So team centaurs created a deck of prompt cards called Cosmic Conversations, helping team members (or even just a group of friends) learn more about each other through meaningful questions. So on this episode, Marilyn and Rhea decide to take these conversation starters for a test run. We talked about who we think would play the other in a movie, what feedback we had for each other as podcast partners, we had a debate about whether we'd seek revenge on people who have hurt us in the past, and so much more. Make sure you keep an eye out for the release of Cosmic Conversations on the Cosmic Centaurs website here. Also what are some of your conversation starters? Tell us about them by writing to us on sayhi@whoruntheworldpodcast.com or on our Instagram page: @whorutnehwroldpodWe recently won the Comedy Gold Award at the International Women's Podcast Awards, and we spent the first few minutes of this podcast sharing with you our reactions. In this episode, we talk about boundaries: how to establish them, how to respect them for ourselves and for others, and why they are so important in the creation and maintaining of healthy relationships.Rhea shares that one of her main obstacles in her dating/romantic life is setting boundaries, always being available to and making things easier for her date. Marilyn on the other hand talks about how her desire to be considered as a good person has made it difficult for her to establish boundaries. Through our stories we pinpoint how we can create boundaries all while being true to ourselves. Finally, we take a look at our own friendship and whether we respect each other's boundaries. We'd love to hear from you! How do you view boundaries? Is it easy for you to establish them or to respect them in others? We recently binge watched Netflix's AlRawabi School for Girls and it quickly became one of our favorite television shows. We loved the series so much that TV binger Marilyn savoured it over a few days, and TV savourer Rhea binged it in just one night. We decided to take our conversation to the podcast and breakdown our thoughts and reactions to the series. We discussed how authentic the show felt in how it portrayed the teenage Arab girl experience, how beautifully constructed and paced the series is and who is our favorite character. Ultimately, AlRawabi School for Girls is a series written and directed by Arab women who so aptly and honestly illustrate the pressures carried on the shoulders of Arab women from a young age.Did you watch AlRawabi School for Girls? We'd love to hear your thoughts! IT IS THE END. Sorry to be dramatic, I had to get your attention. It's the end of season 2 and I'm just...y'know, emotional about it. It's been a ride, eh? Through this series we've met some incredible people, learnt about some amazing emotions, and we've all had a little cry. Oh, just me on that last one? Right.Anyway, to celebrate the end, here's a few snippets of some great interviews that I didn't get to include- we have Nish Kumar and I geeking out about comedy, Dr Soph Mort telling us it's ok to be sad, and Femi Oluwole explaining why a lot more people voted Brexit than some of us expected. I've also thrown in a few new emotions too- feelings that don't necessarily fill up a whole podcast, but I think you'd like to hear about anyway! Thanks so much for listening and getting in touch this series; it's so lovely to know there are people out there! If you want to say hi, come find me on twitter @getemotionalpod. And, as mentioned in the show, I got nominated for an award this week- hurray! It's for Moment of Raw Emotion at the International Women's Podcast Awards, and mostly I'm just thrilled to be called an International Woman. And don't worry- there's a new series on the way very soon. The guests are bookin' in and the emotions are bubblin' up- so far we have words like Treppenwitz, The Ick, and Kaukokaipuu to look forward to. See you soon..!Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/getting-emotional. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

I don't see anything about it on your site. Answer: Subscriptions in Apple Podcasts are 100% on Apple. Your website and your podcast host (no matter who it is) has nothing to do with this. Think of it like YouTube (sort of). You don't upload or do anything outside of YouTube to publish a video, it's 100% on their platform. This is Apple's version of this and its audio and/or video. The difference is people have to have a paid subscription to listen or watch your content on that system. Short answer is no, we will not be doing anything for Apple Subscriptions (or Spotify or Patreon or any other closed system). It's a different distribution method, technically, not a traditional podcast. All other podcasts work mostly like they used to. Apple pulls them in via RSS and people can listen and “FOLLOW” (instead of subscribe) just like before. ______________ If you have a question you would like us to answer on the show, drop an email to mike@blubrry.com (audio or text or even video if you want) and we may use it on the show. We've often talked on this podcast about how our upbringing shapes our attitudes to work, ambition and success. Mira Patel's parents ran a newsagent, and she started working in the shop at an early age, before forging a successful career in HR. She understands the value of hard work and determination in building a business. She stepped away the HR world to train in neurolinguistic programming, and she founded her company, Prana Coaching in 2019. She now specialises in coaching young people through their teenage years, equipping them with the tools and skills they need to navigate the modern world. Mira is one of the most accomplished women I know, seamlessly managing her business, motherhood, a house build, fundraising challenges galore and organising huge events for the Gujarati Cultural Society in Brighton. She's quite the tour de force, and one of the kindest people you could hope to meet. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, but I love meeting women who’ve done something unexpected, who bucked the career trend and taken a path that others might not expect. Today's guest, Caroline Knight, very much falls into that category. After a biochemistry degree and multiple different careers including being a naked yoga instructor, and working in the wine industry, she went to Peru last year, fell in love and unexpectedly stayed to set up a business selling cacao direct from the Peruvian jungle into the UK. Caroline is a fascinating woman. We talked in this chat about being in tune with your body, and why so many people aren’t, why it’s ok to have more than one job, even when the world tells you it isn’t, and why the power of curiosity in your career can be super beneficial. As a trigger warning, this podcast does contain a brief reference to eating disorders. Here’s a question for you. Would you describe your mum as sex positive? My guest today, Anita Whittaker, garnered the term “the sex positive mum you all wish you had” after appearing in Channel 4 show ‘Mums Make Porn’. This happened after a television company read her original blog, Only Boys and A Tomboy, describing her family life in Harlesden in London with her 4 sons and husband Johann. Anita is an award-winning mentor, speaker, journalist and community liason. She’s run children’s nurseries, been a DJ on pirate radio, had a super successful blog and Instagram account, and worked in education for 17 years, including stints on the board of charities and other organisations. Anita is a raconteur in the truest sense of the word, and it’s no great surprise that she now has her own successful podcast, Anita Whittaker and Friends. This podcast is all about women with unusual and interesting careers and lives, and she certainly fits that bill. This interview is full of rich stories, laughter and vivid descriptions of both London and the Caribbean, and I LOVED it. Sometimes you meet someone whose energy, creativity, and drive just blows you away, and Monique Hodgson is one of those people. Monique is a Latin American trailblazer, on a mission to redefine motherhood through her company, Mumble Forum. Monique established in 2019 as a platform to unite women through motherhood with the objective of creating social change, collectively and individually. She says that mothers are underestimated, undervalued and under-utilised, and that the world is suffering both metaphorically and economically because of this. Monique is from Panama, and after moving alone to Milan at the age of 18 to study in the fashion capital of the world, she found herself in London working in the ambassadorial service at the Panamanian embassy. Her work has stretched from fashion, to international politics and commerce to luxury branding and events. We talked a lot in this interview about strong women - being them, raising them and inspiring them, and how Monique’s ambition to change the perception of motherhood drives everything she does at Mumble. If like me, you had a misspent youth watching as much Friends, Sex and the City and The O.C. as you could, you’ll probably love today’s guest, Amanda Ogen. Amanda was obsessed with film and TV from a young age and despite being from New Jersey, couldn’t wait to move to Hollywood. After interning at Nickelodeon, she is now a freelance casting agent, and has worked on shows with Netflix, Fox, Facebook and Buzzfeed. Amanda also hosts a hit podcast, ‘How Did I Get This Far?’, which takes a lighthearted look at some of basic life skills that you might regret never acquiring. Her show charted on the Apple podcast charts earlier this year, and has featured guests talking about everything from changing a tyre, to doing your taxes, to defending yourself with MMA skills. Amanda is, quite frankly, hilarious. In this conversation we talked about sororities in American university, the phrase ‘the dog’s bollocks’, why it pays to be persistent, and the value of speaking up, even if you’re not sure you really should. Oh, and in case you're wondering, here's a video of the cha cha slide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZv62ShoStY Useful Links Amanda's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amandaogen/ Listen to 'How Did I Get This Far?' on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7xuqBvUoqQdnqr1N59SqwM Our website, with details of the International Women's Podcast Awards - www.skylarkcollective.co.uk Check us out on Instagram - www.instagram.com/theskylarkcollective.co.uk
Some people take half a lifetime to discover their passion, but others know their calling from an early age. Iffat Gill was only 25 when she was first invited to speak at a UN Conference, after founding her first not-for-profit in Pakistan at the age of 22. Iffat grew up in Libya and received her education there with the strong encouragement of her family, but when she returned back to her home nation of Pakistan, she realised the need for community education in the effort to empower women. Iffat began with a local skills centre, teaching women the practical aspects of running a small business, but soon realised that her future lay in tech. She has gone on to found Code To Change, a diversity non-profit to upskill and re-skill under-represented groups, and Digital Starling, a new AI enabled female talent marketplace supporting digital freelancers and founders. In 2020, Iffat was nominated for the UNESCO Prize for her work in women and girls’ education, and she is world-renowned for her expertise in digital skills advocacy and internet governance. They say you should never meet your heroes, but what if you do, and it turns out to be amazing? In the case of Kristine Kilty, she met her style icon, Gwen Stefani, whilst working at Vivienne Westwood in London, and her career trajectory altered irrevocably from there. Kristine is a fashion stylist and creative director, co-ordinating shoots for some of the world's biggest fashion magazines. She trained at Central St. Martins College before working for the likes of Alexander McQueen during her illustrious career to this point. Her fashion consultancy business, The Fierce Group, was founded in 2020 in the height of the pandemic, and she was featured in Vogue last year discussing novel ways of working in the fashion industry during Covid. If you're into fashion, or you know anyone that is, this is the episode for you! We are BACK! Season 3 is here, and my first guest this season is Veronica Bolton Smith who, spoiler alert, is a dear friend and a total inspiration. Ronnie is a powerhouse, and her career has been so varied and interesting that I can’t wait for you to hear her story. She started work in the House of Commons at the age of 22, working for various MPs including Theresa May and John Bercow, before heading out to Kenya to become the managing director of a company of 300 people at the age of 25. She has subsequently worked in both the public and private sectors, and has huge experience in international development, investment and renewable energy. She is now the COO of Invest Africa, and sits on the board of Akojo Marketplace, a fashion and homewares company. Most of all, Ronnie is fantastic fun and really knows how to tell a story. She’s also a fabulous singer but I couldn’t quite work that into the podcast recording this time around. Next time!
