HR communications too often fall flat; drowning in a sea of data, facts, and formal language that fails to connect. In this episode, Disruptive HR co-founders Lucy Adams and Karen Moran explore why traditional HR comms so often miss the mark — and more importantly, how you can make yours truly stand out. Lucy and Karen share practical insights on how to transform dry, fact-heavy messaging into communications that cut through the noise, grab attention, and inspire genuine action. They explain why storytelling beats spreadsheets every time when it comes to engagement, and how honesty and authenticity can build far greater trust than polished corporate speak. You'll hear how short, human updates directly from leaders can be more powerful than lengthy newsletters, and why personalising your messages to different employee personas can make all the difference. They also highlight how tapping into employee trust through peer-led communications can amplify your impact, and why ditching jargon in favour of clear, relatable language is critical if you want your messages to land. Packed with real-world examples from organisations like Santander, Dropbox, Coca-Cola, HSBC, and more, this episode offers a fresh and practical guide for anyone who wants to transform the way HR communicates — making it more human, more engaging, and ultimately, far more effective. ‘That last pillar before you go make your decision: is it ethical? What's the effect it's going to have? The feedback I've got from a lot of people was, oh, I never really thought about that.' While ethics has become more talked-about in business, it might not be something you've considered as a factor in your business writing. But you should. In this Best Bits episode, I draw together insights from a wide range of recent guests that show how the moral position you take – in work and life – informs your writing, and the impact that has on both your reader and yourself. Nothing heavy and duty-bound here, just a joyful, thoughtful exploration of how we can write and work in a way that benefits the world, those around us, and ourselves. Hear from: Corey Keyes on the opposite of languishing; Alison Taylor on why business ethics matter to all of us; David McQueen on being braver about decision-making; Lucy Adams on why HR is about allowing people to flourish rather than being responsible for them doing so; David Roche on the obligations we have to our leaders; Louise Brogan on taking an ethical, human approach to social media; Meredith Norwich on why publishing is an industry full of principled people.
Lucy Adams and Karen Moran, founders of Disruptive HR, discuss how HR can be made more agile and responsive.

"It was fantastic, just as a sheer exercise in putting something out there and being brave and saying, these are my thoughts, what does everyone else think?" Lucy Adams spends her days helping HR leaders reimagine their profession, and her classic work HR Disrupted and its sequel, The HR Change Toolkit, are critical to this mission. Her message is simple: treat employees as adults. But the implications are profound. In this conversation, we talk about how HR is changing (or not), the impact of COVID on the profession and on Lucy's decision to write a new edition, the delight of writing and the grind of editing, and the exhilaration and terror involved in opening your freshly minted book for the first time...

For this very special 200th episode, Lucinda is joined by the wonderful Lucy Adams, the CEO of Disruptive HR to talk about not just her prolific and renowned career in the HR sector, but also the ever-changing world of HR itself, and why she has chosen to pioneer a more disruptive approach. KEY TAKEAWAYS Change comes far easier if we question the narrative and test the boundaries of what is possible. In Lucy's case, the world of HR was due for a shake up. Career conversations are far more constructive than performance reviews. Objectives can be discussed, but it's far more valuable to talk about what each side has learned about the other. The EACH framework or model was designed to allow us to sum up our complex and stimulating ideas in a way we can remember. It stands for Employees as Adults Consumers and Human beings. in the wake of COVID, we should ask now if a better way of working exists. Why should people once again be brought back to offices when they work perfectly well from home. BEST MOMENTS 'I was never frightened to say "Why?" and "What's the purpose of this?"' 'I describe myself as a recovering HR director' 'Rather than something that's done to you, it's something that you can take control of' 'Bring people back if there's purpose or value, but don't do it in the old school, old fashioned way' VALUABLE RESOURCES The HR Uprising Podcast | Apple | Spotify | Stitcher The HR Uprising LinkedIn Group How to Prioritise Self-Care (The HR Uprising) How To Be A Change Superhero - by Lucinda Carney HR Uprising Mastermind - https://hruprising.com/mastermind/ www.changesuperhero.com www.hruprising.com Disruptive HR - https://disruptivehr.club ABOUT THE HOST Lucinda Carney is a Business Psychologist with 15 years in Senior Corporate L&D roles and a further 10 as CEO of Actus Software where she worked closely with HR colleagues helping them to solve the same challenges across a huge range of industries.
Tims Ermittlungen führen ihn in ungeahnte Abgründe.

On July 14, 1990, David Herkes was cutting his front lawn in Stow, Scotland. He had observed his 6-year-old neighbour, Mandy Wilson, bounding down the street enjoying the freedoms of summertime. He had also noticed a transit van parked opposite, with the driver outside cleaning his windscreen by hand. He looked back down at the work to hand. By the time he looked back up, he no longer saw Mandy. He did, however, see the unkempt driver of the van forcing something into the rear of his vehicle, then taking off at high speed….Recording:Primary Audio by JSResearch by JS and Matt KScripting by Matt KBackground Audio courtesy of Epidemic Sound (www.epidemicsound.com), various artists, all rights reserved.Promo this week is for the wonderful Jenny and her podcast 'Its Murder Up North', which is available wherever you get your podcasts.Sources:“Tragic Jennifer Cardy’s Final Few Hours’, Belfast Telegraph 27 October 2011“Predator with a grotesque history of abuse". Full episode info and show notes: www.wearelookingsideways.com My episode 014 guest is Lucy Adams - pro skateboarder, chair of Skateboard England and one of the most respected and positive presences in UK skateboarding. Lucy has been a tirelessly upbeat presence in UK skateboarding for years now, whether through the efforts she’s made to make skateboarding more accessible for girls through her She-Shredders coaching classes, or through her visibility as one of the most high profile female skateboarders out there. She’s also celebrating twenty years in the game with a pro model on long-term sponsor Lovenskate, and a new video part, so it seemed the perfect time to meet and discuss her life and career. It’s a very honest and moving chat this one, so big ups to Lucy for her hospitality and openness. Thanks to Chris Cracknell (https://soundcloud.com/6ftstereo) for post production help and Matt Ward (www.linguistine.com) for the theme tune.
There's no minimising how complex the problem of homelessness is. But perhaps the place to begin is by addressing our own sense of disdain and distaste.
This week Kulja and Dylan speak with Phd candidate in law at ANU and last years Commonwealth Pacific Young Person of the year, Bal Kama, comes on the show to talk about the election in Papua New Guinea. Then snowboard superstar, international playboy and podcast dynamo, Daniel Morganti comes on the show to talk about the Australian snow season. Finally, Lucy Adams, manager and principal lawyer at Justice Connect, a firm dealing with homelessness, comes on the show to talk about homelessness in Melbourne and what steps are being taken to reduce it.
Narrate rounded out the final leg of MRelay 2016/17. Storytelling is a tool for knowledge generation and cultural transmission. The telling of one’s personal journey can be used to share cultural history and create social cohesion. This session provided a speaker’s corner for the city, a platform for ideas to be heard and stories to be told. It was opportunity to hear from ethnically and culturally diverse voices, ages and genders. Here we investigated digital storytelling, personal and architectural narratives. Our questions were: How can new technologies encode narrative, strengthen identity and build community? With the rise of artificial intelligence, we explore what it means to be human. Narrate was hosted by Karen McCartney, writer and editor extraordinaire. Speakers included Aric Chen, curator of art and design at M+; Sam Cooney, publisher of The Lifted Brow; Jill Garner, Victorian Government Architect; Candy Bowers, actress, social activist; Adele Varcoe, producer and fashion designer; Kenny Pittock, Melbourne-based visual artist; and Lucy Adams, manager of homeless law at Justice Connect.
If your mentor combines a sympathetic nod with the line “And how does that make you feel?” you've probably picked the wrong person. Liam Black, former BBC director Lucy Adams and social entrepreneur Ronnie Hughes discuss good mentoring.
