Mark Harvey is the managing director of Fielden Whisky of England. Fielden puts emphasis on the heart of its whisky, ancient grains grown on chemical-free land, planted with an under-storey of white clover. Everything starts from this point of regenerative farming and the grain is grown across England, from Cornwall to Norfolk. But as Mark says in the podcast, if the whisky didn't taste good the methods would only be interesting and Mark assures listeners it's delicious!Mark's career story started out in luxury brands, including Cartier and LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) allowing him to grow his experience and knowledge in different countries. But after a number of years Mark could see that his job would start to become repetitive and before long found himself meeting the board of English wine producer Chapel Down and being appointed its managing director.Leaving corporate life and working for a smaller organisation came with its own challenges, but Mark highlights the impact a smaller company can have on the environment. Following a seven year stint at Chapel Down, during which the wines won acclaim and the brand thrived, Mark joined Fielden Whisky, at the time still known under its Oxford Artisan Distillery label. It's not hard to see how sustainable a product like Fielden is, but Mark retains an interest in luxury goods as a board member of Walpole, the membership body for over 200 UK luxury brands. Mark also talks about how those companies are developing sustainable practices and mentions one in particular that offers a repair service*.Listen in for more tips about finding a green career and Mark's thoughts on working for a small producer versus a job for a corporate organisation. Mark also shares the best piece of career advice he's ever received.Mentioned in this podcastFielden Whisky of EnglandFielden Whisky on InstagramCartierLVMHChapel DownWalpole*The business Mark highlights that repairs and revitalises luxury goods is no longer operational but its founders have started Circulo making tech repair accessible and universal.Other episodes you may find interestingJake Fiennes - Holkham Estate S1 E8Rae Wilkinson sustainable garden designer S1 E1 Hosted on Acast. The smooth function of America's economy is critical for national security, military readiness, and geopolitical influence, making it a likely target for an adversary during a conflict. To quickly recover in the event of a widespread cyberattack on multiple industries, Congress directed the president to establish a Continuity of the Economy (COTE) plan. The Biden administration delivered its response to Congress in August 2023, but the final product provides no plan to ensure rapid economic recovery. It asserts that COTE is sufficiently covered by other emergency response plans, and as a result, fails to grapple with important questions: Does the federal government have the information it needs to determine the order of recovery in the wake of a crisis? Can emergency response plans focused primarily on public health and safety work effectively to restart the economy? Who should be responsible for ensuring existing government plans actually get updated to incorporate COTE? And, critically, what role should the private sector – the owners and operators of the U.S. economy – play in COTE planning and implementation? To address these shortcomings and provide recommendations on how to remedy them, FDD is hosting a virtual discussion with Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection; Tom Fanning, executive chairman of Southern Company; Mark Harvey, former senior director for resilience policy on the National Security Council staff, and RADM (Ret.) Mark Montgomery, former executive director of the Cyberspace Solarium Commission. This panel will be moderated by Dr. Samantha Ravich, chair of FDD's Center on Cyber and Technology Innovation (CCTI).
This week, Jeannette is in the hot seat as she appears on the Real Life Game Changers to discuss her own business journey, how she applies the experience and passion she's built to the world of business, and how she is personally inspiring a generation of entrepreneurs to take their own careers to the next level. KEY TAKEAWAYS It is important to have clarity on what you are trying to achieve in your career or business. Set clear goals and have a plan in place to move forward. Surround yourself with the right people and build a strong team. No one can be good at everything, so it is important to have experts in different areas to fill the gaps in your knowledge or experience. Structure and discipline are key to success. Have a clear plan and set goals, but also be flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances. Training and personal development are essential for growth and success. Continuously educate yourself and stay curious. Invest in your own development and seek out opportunities to learn and improve. BEST MOMENTS "If you don't know, just brainstorm all the things that you want in life. Get it out of your head, get it down on paper, and then from there, you will start to form a bit of a plan." "You can educate yourself, you can surround yourself with really smart people, and don't be afraid of doing that." "You've got to be able to treat people as individuals and offer options to people in a way that's still going to get the results." "It's not just about money. There's other ways to recognize people and reward performance." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It's never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. As the youngest child and only boy in his family, Mark had to make do with his sisters hand me downs and very little money whilst growing up. After realising that working long hours and not seeing his family was not the way to live life, he set out to get started in property, and built a portfolio of over £8million in less than three years using ZERO of his own money and is now focussed on a mission to assist everyone on the planet to be free.
Mark Harvey is the founder of the Real Life Brand which encompasses businesses operations in Education, Property, Construction, Facilities Management, Sales and even a Charity. Starting from nothing Mark Harvey has gone from growing up on a council estate struggling to make ends meet to achieving financial freedom for himself and many of the Real Life Community. In this episode, Mark talks about the mission behind his incredible business ventures, the value of practice when it comes to being the best, and his fascinating vision for the ultimate environment - one that will bring out the best in people worldwide. KEY TAKEAWAYS When you practice at something, and devote yourself to being better at it, you gain a sense of autonomy that gives you muscle memory for that task. Practice makes perfect, but it also makes permanent. Background is never a limiting factor when it comes to success. If you have the right mindset and are willing to work hard, you can take your self to any point in business and life, no matter where you come from. When we are allowed to relax sufficiently, we enable ourselves to work far more efficiently. Creating an environment where we can rest, work and play, is the best way to get the most from people. The value of knowledge is exponentially increased when it is shared. Those who have knowledge empower others by sharing and encouraging others to do the same. BEST MOMENTS 'Practice makes permanent' 'If you push yourself out of your comfort zone, you really can achieve anything' 'I want every being on the planet to be free - financially, physically, and emotionally' 'Selling is serving!' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It's never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. We talk a lot at the Krulak Center about educational wargaming and wargaming mechanics; but there are other games, and thus other game mechanics, that the educator can use to enhance the learning experience from a vanilla wargame. To lay this out for us, this episode features #TeamKrulak Non-Resident Fellow and #BruteCast alum Dr. James “Pigeon” Fielder! Dr. James "Pigeon" Fielder joined Colorado State as an Instructor after retiring from the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel and Associate Professor of Political Science at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is also serving as a Marine Corps University Non-Resident Krulak Fellow for academic years 2021-2023, develops organizational wargames under the name Liminal Operations, and is a roleplaying game content creator for Evil Beagle Games. Pigeon researches interpersonal trust and emergent political processes through cyber-based interaction and through tabletop and live-action gaming as natural experiments, with recent project including an ethnographic study of live-action role-players published in "The Politics of Horror" and a manuscript under review on player coordination in EVE Online. Pigeon has over two decades of experience designing, executing, and assessing training exercises and wargames, from small-group tabletop discussions to multi-day exercises engaging 5,000+ participants, and is a co-editor of the forthcoming book "Games without Frontiers: Simulations in the Political Science Classroom" with Mark Harvey and Ryan Gibb. Dr. Fielder references a game design checklist in the presentation, which can be downloaded here. Marcus Rashford’s campaign for free meals for vulnerable children during school holidays has received widespread support from both the public and the media, with some describing Rashford as rising from sportsman to statesman, the noble quest of a celebrity footballer taking on the might of the Government. Whether he succeeds remains to be seen but it demonstrates the growing power of the celebrity. Advertisers and charities alike have long understood the power of associating celebrities with a product or a cause. They can guarantee visibility and familiarity and their likeability, attractiveness and success are known to influence the way many think and act regardless of whether the celebrities themselves know much about the cause they are championing. But when it comes to public policy should politicians be held to ransom by the power and influence of celebrities? Shouldn’t it be up to Government how it spends its money not the celebrities who are not accountable for their actions? Yet the relationship between politics and celebrities are becoming increasingly blurred. Celebrities are often asked to endorse political campaigns. In America, the history of politics is populated by celebrities themselves achieving political success from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Ronald Reagan and now Donald Trump to name but a few. Some would argue this has reduced political success to whether you like or dislike a politician not on well-rehearsed political arguments or ideologies. Others would argue that it degrades the moral status of government and is a danger to democracy. So who has the moral authority – the politician or the celebrity? With Paul Cullen, Dr Mark Harvey, Prof Natasha Lindstaedt and Brendan O’Neill. Producer: Amanda Hancox

Recorded in Washington, DC on September 26, 2019. Since 2016, Secure World Foundation (SWF) has partnered with the U.S. Department of State to host multiple Space Weather as a Global Challenge events to facilitate discussions on the impacts of space weather across the globe, and plans to collaborate in observation, modeling, prediction, and mitigation of harmful effects. This year’s Space Weather as a Global Challenge will be held in coordination with the Next Step Benchmarks Town Hall, an event that supports the U.S. National Space Weather Strategy and Action Plan, on September 26, 2019. The Next Step Benchmarks is an effort funded by NSF and NASA, and led by the IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute (STPI), that has gathered 32 of the world’s leading space weather scientists to develop recommendations for improving the characterization of extreme space weather events. Initial characterizations of 1-in-100-year and theoretical maximum events for five space weather phenomena were described in the Space Weather Phase 1 Benchmarks report, released by the White House’s National Science and Technology Council in 2018. The Next Step Benchmarks team is developing a public report that will provide recommendations to improve the estimates found in the Phase 1 report. The Town Hall will be an opportunity for the space weather community to provide feedback on proposed recommendations and priorities for studies, data acquisition, and long-term research that would improve the characterization of extreme space weather events. Following the Town Hall, SWF and the U.S. Department of State hosted an evening panel discussion and networking reception to share the general outcomes of the Town Hall and other U.S. and international space weather initiatives. Speakers Jean-Luc Bald, First Secretary, Space Global Issues & Innovation Section, Delegation of the European Union to the United States of America Mark Harvey, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Resilience Policy, National Security Council Staff Jeff O'Neil, Legislative Director, Office of Congressman Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) Geoffrey Reeves, Research Fellow, Los Alamos National Lab Moderator: Josh Wolny, Project Manager, Secure World Foundation More details, including transcripts, can be found at the event page on the SWF website.

The Essendon Bombers will be targeting the Dockers dominant mids in Brad Hill and Nat Fyfe to control their run in the game when the two sides go head to head at Optus Stadium on Saturday night. "They're two key players that we've had a look at certainly and there will be some strategy around that," Mark Harvey told 6PR. Harvey coached two Fremantle players the club farewells tonight in Aaron Sandilands and Hayden Ballantyne. "Both those guys have been fantastic contributors to the football club, good characters and more importantly great guys to coach because they had the ability to be able to fight the fight," Harvey said about the pair.
It's anyone's game tonight between Essendon and Fremantle with both teams struggling in front of goals in recent weeks. Essendon assistant coach Mark Harvey says they have a fight on their hands, especially against some key Fremantle players. "He doesn't appear to be going forward as much as he used to," Harvey says about Nat Fyfe. "He's [Fyfe] a big part of their ball movement, they play relatively safe for their ball movement because they want to be able to defend any turnover," Harvey told 6PR. On a personal note, the former Fremantle coach says he still has a passion for the game, but he's he doesn't have any desire to be a head coach again.
