Big events happened for us with our non-monogamy journey last week and we discuss a few major concepts from Open Deeply.
Ayahuasca isn't right for everyone, but if you have decided to dive down this psychedelic rabbit hole, hopefully you have already discovered the necessity to support, respect, and listen to the indigenous cultures that have had intergenerational relationships with this powerful plant medicine. That necessity is the catalyst for inviting indigenous rights activist and psychedelic leader, Dr. Glauber Loures de Assis, as a guest on this episode of Open Deeply. Glauber is the founder and president of Céu da Divina Estrela, a legal and tax-exempt Santo Daime ayahuasca church in Brazil, a Ph.D. in sociology, and has led more than 500 ceremonies in Brazil, Europe and the United States. He points out that, “While some investors in the psychedelic sector considered the flooding at Burning Man to be their most dangerous experience in many years, communities in the Amazon are fighting daily for their lives amid both fire and flood, state-sponsored famine and the threat of death from illegal miners.” And yet we shouldn't be so short sighted to believe that this is a one-way relationship. If we listen, then we will discover that they can help us profoundly when we need it most. For instance, Glauber states, ““Indigenous contexts offer awareness beyond the psychotherapeutic, where illness and healing are social processes oriented within a collective experience.” Our culture founded on individualism knows little of that. He speaks beyond, psychedelics to kindelics and somadelics, all concepts that we are unfamiliar with, but shamans and indigenous cultures, like the Brazilian Yanomami know so well. Glauber teaches us about these concepts, expands our horizons, and even speaks on the Psychedelic Parenthood Community. Get ready to have your mind blown as we once again dare to Open Deeply. Glauber's Bio: Dr. Glauber Loures de Assis is a researcher of sacred plants and their traditions and a psychedelic dad. He has a Ph.D in sociology from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). He is the author of numerous articles and book chapters, and the co-editor of the book Women and Psychedelics: Uncovering Invisible Voices (Synergetic Press). He has built his Santo Daime practice in dialogue with his local Brazilian ayahuasca community and with the blessings of Indigenous elders and activists in Brazil. He is also the co-founder of Jornadas de Kura, a plant medicine center in Brazil that promotes an alliance between the ceremonial use of sacred plants, public education on plant medicine and psychedelic science. He is father to 3 children and lives with his wife Jacqueline Rodrigues in Santa Luzia, Minas Gerais, Brazil.Glauber is driven by the desire to collectively co-create a plant medicine community in which all families are safe, welcome and integrated into the psychedelic field. A community in which diversity is embraced, children and elders are taken seriously, ancestral Indigenous traditions are honored, and where all kinds of families can coexist in solidarity. We all have a shadow side, that part of us that we tend to disown, but what if we embrace it instead? In this episode, our guest, Court Vox discusses how we can play with our shadow via BDSM, psychedelics and somatic work. Carl Jung originated the concept of the shadow, and states, “Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual's conscious life, the blacker and denser it is. At all counts, it forms an unconscious snag, thwarting our most well-meant intentions.” This quote drives home the importance of discovering what blocks us from consciously being aware of our shadow along with why learning how to dance with it once we do is so crucial. In this episode, we discuss the relationship shame and fear has with the shadow, why people might avoid making darkness conscious, and how to find one's own shadow, so one can not only go next level with emotional growth, but also partake in naughty joy. Please join us on the shadow side of life, as we once again, dare to Open Deeply. Court Vox's Bio: Court Vox is a Certified Sex & Intimacy Coach, based in Los Angeles CA . He is Founder of The Bodyvox. Through his courses, workshops, retreats, and private immersions, clients cultivate toys to unlock limitations and shame, to embrace a deeper sense of intimacy with their whole self. Traditional forms of therapy are done solely through talk, while the work of a somatic coach is to further this form of work via body-based exercises, experiential learning, and touch, in comfortable, judgment-free, and caring environments. Body acceptance, exploration of sensation and desires (and learning how to ask for what you want), boundary-setting and intimacy work are some of the many reasons clients seek this form of learning. Vox is a sex educator experienced working with clients of all sexualities and genders and has been featured in AskMen.com, Cosmopolitan, and Well & Good magazines. He offers workshops and retreats across the globe for GBTQ men, and is also part of an elite team of sex educators that create the celebrated program for women, Back to the Body. During a time in which social justice efforts for adult professionals are silenced, we welcome the iconic Jessica Stoya to discuss the globalization of the adult film industry and its impact on adult industry professionals. Along with discussing historical events that have led to changes in the adult industry, we discuss some of the hurdles that adult performers experience in their personal life that put their basic needs for food and shelter in jeopardy. These hurdles exist due to right wing, sex negative influences in our culture and can result in, for example, the performer being “unbanked” meaning that the performer may have trouble finding and keeping a bank that will allow them to have an account and other banking fundamentals, or they may be refused housing when looking to rent or buy property which can lead to a very real fear of homelessness. This all sounds heavy, but Stoya's impromptu Les Mis musical parody makes it all worth the emotional labor. Trust me. Then, we go on to discuss Stoya's bold career transition from mostly being an adult performer to focusing on writing and being an intimacy coach for Pam Shaffer's clinic Best Self Psych. This is a fascinating and important episode, especially if you care about adult performers' rights. We hope you join us as once again as we dare to Open Deeply. Stoya's Bio: Jessica Stoya has been working with sexuality since 2006. Her writing on the subject has appeared in The New York Times, VICE, Playboy, and many other publications. She, along with Rich Juzwiak, pens Slate's How To Do It sex advice column. Her first book, Philosophy, Pussycats, & Porn, has been published in English, and Spanish, Russian and Serbian translations. She completed her Ante Up! Professional Development certification in 2021, and has begun an undergraduate degree studying philosophy. In this episode, the amazing death doula, Jane Whitlock, joins us. In the U.S., there is so much avoidance of understanding death and preparing for death, but if we lean in to learning and feeling, we can learn so much from dying and the death process including how to live, the mysteries and spiritual aspects of death, and how to die under the best circumstances possible for both us and our loved ones. Jane once said, “In circumstances in which death is not sudden, if we treated death as we treat birth, then death would not be a time of fear and anxiety but love, connection and a time to access our deepest emotions.” It can be such a better experience if we learn to manage our fear and grief. We also get into how to frame death for our own spiritual evolution, for instance Jane has stated, and I'm paraphrasing, “The soul should be in the driver's seat with death is riding shot gun. The ego should be in the back seat” as a way to look at death through a Buddhist lens. We hope you join us for this fascinating episode of Open Deeply in which we face what is for many, a biggest fear. Jane's Bio: Jane Whitlock is an end of life doula, a passionate end of life educator and an arm chair astrologer. She believes that by holding the truth that we will die close, we will not only have a more meaningful life but a more meaningful death. She did a Ted talk in 2018 entitled, "What Death Taught Me About Life" which launched her into the field of death education. She is the co founder of the MN Death Collaborative an end of life resource for all facing death. In 2021 she co founded Full Circle Care, an end of life program at a skilled nursing facility. Please join us for episode fifty in which Open Deeply's co-host, who is a psychotherapist and a two-time cancer survivor, discloses the intertwined psychedelic journey and cancer journey that she experienced throughout 2023. The story begins with a psychedelic journey at a retreat center deep in jungles of Costa Rica that changes the trajectory of her life for close to a year. During her last psychedelic experience at the retreat center, her lung area felt like a concrete block. She tried to use all her somatic psychotherapy skills to move it through to no avail. She describes how she finally resolved her suffering and what happened once she returned home. She had learned from listening to countless stories of psychedelic journeys, that it's not wise to ignore the medicine if it focuses on a body part. So, upon returning to L.A., she decided to get her lungs checked. Months later, the biopsy results revealed that she had a small tumor in her lung. The doctors kept asking, “How did you know to come in?” Strange but true. Now, most people describe cancer as a monster. We often here, “F*ck cancer!” But what if, in some cases, cancer has something to teach us. In Kate's experience, she states that although having cancer both times was brutal, the lessons it has taught her keep coming. She describes it as more of a spiritual journey that has provided tremendous growth. And she has lived to tell us about it in this episode. So, join us, for another episode of Open Deeply, in which we will find out why so many cancer survivors ask the question, “Why did it take cancer to teach me how to live?” Kate's Bio: Kate Loree, LMFT, is a sex-positive licensed marriage and family therapist with a specialty in non-monogamous, kink, LGBTQ, and sex worker communities and the author of Open Deeply: A Guide to Building Conscious, Compassionate Open Relationships. Please join us for episode 49 of Open Deeply with the legendary, Janet Hardy. Janet is most known for the Ethical Slut, but she is a prolific writer of over a dozen groundbreaking books. In this episode, she reads from her soon to be published book, Notes of an Aging Pervert. This novel is SO kind, vulnerable and honest regarding the uncomfortable subjects of aging and facing mortality. We're all going to die, but we remain avoidant of the subject. Janet holds our hand and makes thinking about this topic way easier. Here is one excerpt from the book, ““I've come to think of my lifetime as a relatively brief vacation, and my body as resortwear — perhaps a nice sundress, or a pair of comfy shorts. Like all vacations, this one will feel like it's over much too soon.” She also discusses family, love, relationships, and of course, k1nk including several kinky memories. One of the most captivating parts of the book is when she tells the story of being present for her father's “good death” which is mystical, awe inspiring and beautiful. In addition, the paperback is filled with Janet's original raw and lovable artwork of herself and loved ones. In this interview Janet discusses the vulnerability of including nude drawings of herself and why she decided to include them. The book has a certain comfy and comforting quality to it, despite the scary topics, that makes one want to grab a blanket and some hot cocoa and curl up while reading it. It's a love gift. It's a book that helped me sit in reverence for this iconic human that has blazed a trail for so many, including me, so that in turn, our own path might not be so hard. We hope you join us for this captivating episode as we discuss this amazing book. Janet's bio: Janet W. Hardy is the author or coauthor of more than a dozen groundbreaking books about relationships and sexuality, including The Ethical Slut, which has sold more than 300,000 copies to date. She spent the first three decades of her life believing that she was the only person in the world who got turned on by thinking about spanking. She wrote her first book, The Sexually Dominant Woman, to help create a world in which nobody else would ever be that clueless. Janet has traveled the world as a speaker and teacher on topics ranging from ethical multipartner relationships to erotic spanking and beyond. She has appeared in documentary films, television shows, and more podcasts and radio shows than she can count. She has narrated audio versions of many of her books, and looks forward to doing more. Janet spent a quarter century as editor-in-chief of Greenery Press, the firm she founded in 1992, which went on to publish dozens of books about alternative sexuality and relationships. In this episode, Alex Belser, PhD joins us to discuss how psychedelics can help LGBTQIA+ people heal from bigotry and embracing their identity. After seeing him speak on stage at the Denver Psychedelic Science Convention on the topic of Queering Psychedelics, I knew we needed to have him on Open Deeply along with his co-presenter, Justin Natoli, who was our guest on episode 44. So much was discussed in this episode including how psychedelics can potentially help with the coming out process. And we didn't shy away from the dark history of psychedelics. For instance, did you know that psychedelics have been used unethically in tandem with conversion therapy in attempt to rewire sexual orientation? Horrible, but true. And finally, we discussed what the kink and psychedelic communities can learn from one another. All this and more as once again we dare to Open Deeply. Bio: Alex Belser, PhD is a clinical scientist, author, and licensed psychologist with a focus on psychedelic research. At Yale University, he's a Co-Investigator for a study investigating psilocybin treatment for people with OCD. He has explored the potential of novel therapies using psilocybin, MDMA, ketamine, and DMT to help alleviate human suffering and treat specific indications, including depression, anxiety, addiction, and PTSD. His most recent book: EMBARK Psychedelic Therapy for Depression: A New Approach for the Whole Person, co-authored with Dr. Bill Brennan, will be published later this year by Oxford University Press. Dr. Belser has co-founded a number of leading psychedelic organizations, including the NYU Psychedelic Research Group in 2006; Nautilus Sanctuary, the first non-profit on the East Coast dedicated to psychedelic medicine; and Adelia Therapeutics, where he served as Chief Clinical Officer (CCO). He also served as CCO at Cybin, where he chaired the Scientific Advisory Board. His other main area of interest is mental health for LGBTQIA+ people—his last book is Queering Psychedelics: From Oppression to Liberation in Psychedelic Medicine. His work has been featured in the media, with coverage in the New York Times, the Atlantic, the New Yorker, The Guardian, Forbes, Rolling Stone Magazine, and in Michael Pollan's book, "How to Change Your Mind." In this episode, relationship coach and co-host of the Multiamory podcast, Dedeker Winston joins us to discuss her new book, “Multiamory: Essential Tools for Modern Relationships” that she wrote along with co-authors Jase Lindgren and Emily Sotelo Matlack. Dedeker unpacks some fascinating key concepts in her book, like RADAR check ins and the Triforce of Communication, that will be game changers for your relationships. We also get into vulnerabilities as she explains that writing has been emotionally harder for her than nude modeling and why. Then, we shift gears as she elucidates how the combination of being a digital nomad and being non-monogamous has been especially epic for her. Side note: I have to say, her goat story got me incredibly envious. She tells us how jealousy has been her teacher, why she loves relationship anarchy, and finally, why she now endeavors to live a “f*ckless life”. Please join us for this detailed look into the non-monogamous mind of Dedeker Winston as we once again dare to Open Deeply. This episode is part two with Goddess Amina (Amina Peterson). In this episode, we talk about everything from the politics of sex to psychedelics. Regarding sexual politics, Amina feels the best was to buck our patriarchal system is by offering and teaching something that is way better than anything patriarchy can ever offer…next level pleasure. With a gleam in her eye, Amina states, “This is how we fight patriarchy, by offering something way juicier, way more whole, way healthier, and way more appealing. Amina questions the hypocrisy in our culture related to sex and points out that, “We can sell a waterfall, but we can't sell our own p*ssy.” She discusses rights related to sex work and delineates survival sex work versus empowered sex work. After this impassioned conversation, we switch gears and discuss Amina's work with psychedelics. She offers San Pedro retreats outside of the United States. She likens San Pedro ceremonies to “getting a hug from the universe for ten hours.” She excitedly explains that she's been learning from a shaman since 2021 and describes how her guests seem changed after these experiences. Finally, we close the interview discussing the importance of access and inclusion of Black and Brown people in the psychedelic movement including the necessity of having Black and Brown run retreat centers and clinics. We discuss the importance of amplifying the public awareness of sexual abuse that has been enacted by some shamans, mentors or facilitators upon some guests, students or patients who are experiencing a psychedelic journey. All of this drives home the point that profits should never be more important than people. We hope you join us for incredibly thought-provoking episode of Open Deeply. Sex-positive psychotherapist, Kate Loree joins us to talk about managing mental health within polyamory and consensual non-monogamy -- specifically how mood and personality disorders like anxiety, depression, BPD, NPD, etc., can impact these relationships. According to NAMI one in five American adults experienced mental illness in 2020. When we combine this with consensual non-monogamy (CNM), things can become even more complex. As Kate points out, CNM tends to poke at unresolved attachment injuries more than is typical in monogamous relationships plus polyamory involves more people which means there's more to navigate. While this conversation is geared toward non-monogamous relationships, the strategies Kate discusses can be adapted to various relationship styles, including kink dynamics and monogamous relationships. Licensed psychotherapist, Dr. Cat Meyer, joins us to discuss her two areas of expertise, sex and psychedelics, while disclosing much about her own personal sexual journey, such as the time she first discovered her Dominant side while at BDSM party. However, her wild soul was not always so free. Cat's childhood was mired with an eating disorder and sexual abuse. But quickly, she began to take her body back through yoga, somatic work and reiki in her early 20s. Then while getting her Ph.D., she discovered kink and tantra. Today, she is teaching courses on how all of this can blend together, such as her current kink and tantra class, to create epic relationships and an amazing sex life. In this episode, we discuss the power of trance states within bdsm scenes, tantra, and psychedelics. Sometimes this podcast is about what BLOCKS us from opening deeply. When I heard Sunny's episode on American Sex about grooming within the kink scene, I knew that I wanted to be sure that Open Deeply listeners heard it as well. So we are reposting it here!. Adult grooming is often misunderstood — from what it looks like, to who is most vulnerable, what types of people groom, and why — most assume it can't happen to them. The fact is, grooming comes in many forms and can happen in any type of relationship – including BDSM dynamics. And because kink often involves power imbalances, it can be especially difficult to recognize in this context. Whether you're new to kink or a seasoned veteran, this episode will give you the tools to spot unhealthy power dynamics in BDSM and deconstruct preconceived notions of what manipulative abuse looks like, who can do it, and why. You'll also learn: - The six stages of grooming as they apply to D/s dynamics - How to recognize coercive abuse in BDSM relationships - How pop culture kink stereotypes fuel grooming within BDSM - The end goal of the groomer's behavior - How my breakable rules analysis can help you spot unhealthy kink & more Sunny's bio related to kink: Sunny began teaching about BDSM in 2010. Her area of expertise is the soft skills--which center around things like ethics, cultivating self-awareness, and strategies for effective communication. She received a FROST Certificate of Gratitude in 2020 honoring her service to the kink community, was voted XBIZ sexpert of the year in 2021, and Kinkly's sex blogging superhero in 2017. Her alternative sexuality focused podcast American Sex was awarded the AASECT podcast award in 2020. Sunny also creates curriculum about BDSM for sexuality professionals. Some of her most recent projects include designing & teaching the BDSM unit for a well-known sex educator certification program plus a lesson for the Sexual Health Alliance's Kink Informed Certification Program for therapists and other care professionals. Sunny's first book, Customizable Kink: A Strategic Guide to Erotic Play is scheduled to be released in 2022. It's time to transition to season three! In season one, the United States' climate of suppression, led us to create a podcast designed to amplify voices that are often suppressed. We brought on the most impactful sex positive social justice leaders and icons that we know from many walks of life. Each guest got two episodes. The first is an intimate deep dive in which each guest tells their life story from traumatic struggle to purpose and power. The second episode is even more intimate as we interview guests regarding the previous episode. We were surprised to discover how similar each person's struggle was despite each person being very different demographically. Despite season one having such profound heart, once that was revealed, it was time for season two. Season two is about love that gets pushed into the shadow; kinky love, non-monogamous love, neurodiverse love and love between two porn performers. These communities are often seen by the masses in a de-humanizing way and in an overly sexualized way. Focusing on love is one of the best was to humanize these amazing populations. We accomplished that! Now, we are ready for season three. Open Deeply has always been about striping away our social conditioning and shame (especially sexual shame). Anything that keeps us small, constricted and disconnected like a flower tight in the bud. This podcast is simultaneously, also about discovering our sexual truth, our authenticity, and anything that allows us to open deeply into our human potential. As Anais Nin says, “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” In season three, we will continue to discuss sexual authenticity and anything that blocks sexual authenticity, but we will also branch out into other topics, like plant medicine and animism. Upcoming guests might speak on topics such as autoimmune diseases or naturopathy, any topic that might allow us to heal and reconnect to what really matters. Furthermore, we will continue to try to give you tools, so that you will feel strong enough to keep waking up into your full sexual, mind, body, and spirit potential. We hope that you will join us as we expand our process and continue to open deeply. Season two is about love that our culture pushes into the shadows and this episode is about love between two porn performers, Jetsetting Jasmine and King Noire. When we asked other porn performers what couple they felt are the best example of a healthy, amazing love, Jetsetting Jasmine and King Noire were always the reply. So often our culture projects bigoted, two-dimensional stereotypes onto porn performers. In contrast, this episode, which is all about their love, helps to humanize and get closer to the truth. When asked how our culture might love porn performers better, King said, “Just realize that we are humans.” That shouldn't be a big ask, but in America, unfortunately, it is. Their epic love is just a part of this episode. In addition to being performers, Jasmine is a psychotherapist and King is a musician. Both of them have a heavy social justice focus. Over ten years ago, their fans, who were mostly Black and Brown people would ask, “Why aren't we (Black and Brown people) shot well? Why aren't we ever shown kissing? Why is it so bad.” And so, through their production company, Royal Fetish Films, King and Jasmine give their fans the corrective experience they have been asking for. This episode is not just about the relationship between to porn performers, but also their relationship with their fans and our culture. It's an episode about breaking down bigotry and creating art and beauty through porn. We hope you join us for another episode of Open Deeply, where again, we feature amazing humans who are shifting culture towards a more open and loving world. Jet Setting Jasmine is a licensed clinical therapist with a strong emphasis on Intimacy Post Injury and Post Illness. She is co-owner, with partner King Noire, of the Award Winning, “Royal Fetish Films” and has over 20 years of experience as an adult entertainer, educator, and Master Fetish Trainer. We explore the challenges that come with this sort of neurodiversity, including getting upset when a live in partner disrupts focus. We also unpack the gifts, such as visionary, creative thought. Anne not only discusses the experience of loving a person with neurodiversity on an individual level, but also how society can love and respect people with neurodiversity better, such as by being more accepting and inclusive. They are the author of Open Deeply, a guide to building conscious, compassionate, open relationships. Thank you so much for being here. Thank you so much for having me. I love your podcast. Well, we're so excited to chat with you because this book is in many ways very groundbreaking. Now, there are many books, of course, on open relationships, but yours is a little bit different. We're going to get into why. First and foremost, though, I'm curious what motivated you to write this book in the first place. And if you can also talk a little bit about how learning about open relationships can actually be meaningful to people in all relationship arrangements, monogamous folks included. Yes, absolutely. For one, let's just delineate one thing that when you think about monogamous relationships versus non monogamous relationships, non monogamous relationships poke at our unresolved attachment injuries way more than monogamous relationships.
All relationships are susceptible to hurdles & conflict--resentment, attachment injuries, navigating mental health, unhealthy coping strategies, overcoming societal conditioning, trauma, and more. It's hard enough between 2 people; in polyamory, we have multiple partners to factor in plus unique issues like jealousy and couple's privilege. On episode 187 of American Sex Podcast, Kate Loree draws from her years as a polyamorous relationship therapist to talk about strategies for compassionate communication, cultivating self-awareness, breaking unhealthy patterns, and reconciling conflict in consensually non-monogamous relationships. Season two of Open Deeply is all about love that gets pushed into the shadows: kinky love, non-monogamous love, neurodiverse love and more. Since co-host, Kate Loree's book, Open Deeply: A Guide to Building Conscious, Compassionate Open Relationships, is published this month, we thought we would start out this season with a series on non-monogamy. This episode starts out the series. We talk a bit about our non-monogamous back story followed by some basics, such as the different types of non-monogamous relationships. On episode 184 of American Sex Podcast, Sunny Megatron & sex-positive therapist, Kate Loree, look at BDSM through an atypical lens. We chat about the misconceptions we worked through as people who stumbled upon kink later in life and how that perspective is helpful now in our careers. We discuss the headspace & strategy needed to tap into the customizable nature of BDSM, plus dive into the science & psychology behind kinky play--why do masochists like suffering? What happens to the body & mind during the altered states of consciousness subspace & topspace? How do people use kink to be more grounded, regulate the nervous system, explore intense emotional states with minimal risk, and more? There's a lot more to BDSM than ropes, paddles, and floggers! Join us with Mollena Williams-Haas, American writer, BDSM educator, actor, story teller and former International Ms. Leather, for an episode of Open Deeply in which Mollena explains how she took her back her agency and came to understand intergenerational pain more fully via BDSM. Mollena doesn't shy away from even the hardest questions related to being a Black woman who identifies as submissive. Her journey and storytelling have been so impactful to so many, that they eventually culminated in a film, The Artist and the Pervert. Furthermore, in this second episode with Mollena, she explains that although trauma related racism and classism lead her to being a “bed wetting alcoholic” for quite some time, she rose above, got sober, and eventually created the acclaimed show, “Hyena” along with her husband, composer, Georg Frederick-Haas about her experience with alcoholism. She continues to be a living testimony that our most dark fantasies and painful life stories can be transmuted into art that helps others heal and discard their own personal, debilitating shame. We hope you join us for this amazing episode. For more on building resilience through being submissive (especially as a Black woman) check out Ep. 8 and 9 of Mollena's podcast, All That & Mo. Join us with Mollena Williams-Haas, American writer, BDSM educator, actor, and former International Ms. Leather, for an incredibly thought provoking episode of Open Deeply. It was determined that Mollena was a genius by age three. In that same year, she had her first devastating experience of racism that left her incredibly confused. However, her creative excellence continued to reveal itself across her life. Even as her promise shined brighter, the trauma from accumulated racism and classism continued to mount almost crushing her psyche and her dreams. However, fate had other plans for Mollena. She transparently describes her hard road to truth and healing via the dynamic avenues of kink and the arts. In this episode, Mollena lays herself bare and explains how our most dark fantasies and our most shameful life stories can help us heal if revealed in safe ways. From engaging in taboo play in dungeons to performing in her own musical, Hyena, on stage, Mollena explains how she discovered her life purpose. Although this episode has heavy themes, it also has much creative flare and many laughs. Please use self-care when listening and turn it off if it becomes too much. It's high time to shake up norms and bring the kink community next level with up-to-date standards around consent, ethics, and self-awareness while considering how inclusivity, misogyny, education, attitudes, racism and all the isms impact the whole kit and kaboodle. In this episode, we continue our kinky discussion from episode twenty-two as Sunny tells us more about why her book, “Customizable Kink: A Strategic Guide to Erotic Play” is so necessary. She explains how the patriarchal feedback loop has impacted both the kink community and the media's portrayal of kink to the masses. All the while, she stresses that she is not dissing traditionalists, but simply stating, “Don't force it on others.” When Sunny coined the key concept “kink is customizable”, she shed a light on just how much creativity and flexibility is possible with kink. The possibilities are limitless as long as you remember consent. And on that note, Sunny goes on to tell us about her educational acronym, the consent PASSM which undoubtably will make an amazing t-shirt. So, I hope you join us for this important and fascinating episode of Open Deeply. Side note: If you would like to vote for Sunny as XBIZ's sexpert for 2022, the link is below. If there is anyone who embodies a plethora of kinktastic knowledge, it's my co-host, Sunny Megatron. She's a fountain of knowledge on everything from clown kink to humiliation play and has shaped many a psychotherapist into being kink-aware through her classes. In this episode, we chat about how Sunny originally got into kink, how she customizes her kink for her own needs, and how she has taught others how to shape their kink into their own tailor-made version of perverted fun. Sunny explains how she negotiates, takes her sub on a kinky roller coaster ride followed by rolling back into the station with after care specifically designed for them. Furthermore, Sunny describes both the potential emotional and somatic benefits of kink along with how it may impact us neurologically while always stressing that although kink can be therapeutic, it is not therapy. Please join us for this amazing episode of Open Deeply in which we all learn that BDSM is way more delightful fun than just ropes, paddles and floggers. Lenora Claire, the Erin Brovovich of stalking, joins us for her second powerful episode. So often our society misunderstands stalking to the extent that it's often a theme in comedians' standup. And yet, real life stalkers are frequently terrifying, dangerous and nothing to joke about. And with a justice system that does just short of nothing to help survivors, we need a bright light of hope. And that's where Lenora Claire comes in as our bright light in a sea of darkness. In this episode, she discusses how you can reduce your risk of having a stalker, best steps to take directly after being sexually assaulted, along with legal changes she is attempting to push through our justice system, such as her app concept with geofencing that would allow survivors to track their stalker. Finally, she tells us about Lenora Claire LLC, her company designed to consult with the entertainment industry, specifically on True Crime shows, so their treatment of survivors is ethical and kind while working with them. Please join us for this episode of Open Deeply that proves that super heroines are real. Lenora Claire is a survivor of multiple violent crimes, a member of the Los Angeles District Attorney Crime Victims Advisory Board, the CEO of Lenora Claire Consulting LLC, as well as an entertainment industry professional. After becoming the fixation of a dangerous stalker, Lenora began to speak out not only for herself but for the other 7.5 million Americans currently being stalked who find themselves without resources and living in fear. Lenora's case has been featured on 48 Hours, Dr. Oz, Crime Watch Daily, CBS News and other media outlets. Named “The Erin Brockovich of Stalking” by Vice, Lenora has helped countless people obtain restraining orders. She has served as a human shield in court and lectured on the subject of risk minimization at schools, on television and on podcasts. With fellow advocate, Jess Gilbert, they formed The Innovative Justice Alliance to propose legislation and develop methods of prevention in the technology space. Lenora also works as a consultant for television and film, advocating for victims and their families to ensure respectful depictions of their most traumatic and vulnerable moments of their lives. Lenora Claire once lead a Felliniesque life, orchestrating amazing art shows like “Golden Girls Gone Wild”, associating with colorful celebrities, and creating some of the best parties Hollywood had to offer. But “P.T. Barnum with Boobs” would soon have a new calling and a new moniker. In 2001 she was named one of L.A. Weekly's people of the year. However, the bliss that came with this recognition was soon followed by terror as a dangerous stalker became fixated on her. But this overwhelming fright only caused her bright light to go on dim briefly. In this episode she tells us how she fought back. As a result, she is now known as the Erin Brockovich of stalking, and not only advocates for herself, but also for the 7.5 million Americans who are currently being stalked right now. Please join us for this amazing episode of Open Deeply as Lenora tells us all about how she is creating change in our legal system and the entertainment industry so that we all might be safer. Dr. Kim TallBear, Professor of Native Studies, author, and regular international media commentor on issues related to Indigenous peoples, science, sexualities, and non-monogamy weaves wisdom throughout her amazing life story on this episode of Open Deeply. As a small child, Kim knew she was a queen, but the intergenerational impact of settler colonization created many hurdles for herself and her Dakota indigenous relatives. Poverty, sexual abuse, and chaos all impacted her childhood as is tragically the case for so many North American Indigenous children. However, she funneled her consequent anger to break free, creating a new reality for herself. This anger got her out into the world making her both politically and intellectually oppositional. Concurrent with her activism, she experienced non-monogamy for the first time in college, finding it very comfortable, but knowing the world would not approve. Flash forward to now, Kim is a leading intellectual on the topics of non-monogamy, Native Studies, and how these topics intersect. Her passionate explanation regarding why polyamorists, especially relationship anarchists, are allies for indigenous people, as they push back against settler colonial social norms, is profoundly mind expanding and needed. And there is so much more to this amazing episode. So, we hope you will join us for another riveting episode of Open Deeply. Babatunde Akinboboye, the HipHopera Guy, joins us in an eye opening episode of Open Deeply. While Babatunde weaves operatic excellence seamlessly with hiphop and trap beats, you can see that he brims over with next level passion and joy. You would never suspect the intense struggle that he has overcome across his life. While his early childhood was filled with love and cuddles, it brutally shifted to one of physical abuse, a struggle with undiagnosed ADHD while feeling lost, depressed and lonely. But soon, Babatunde was kidnapped out of this emotionally unbearable situation by a benevolent family intervention leading to new opportunities, especially in music. However, the struggle didn't end there. Once in the U.S., he contended with racism and the experience of being othered, not just in school, but later from the international opera establishment despite its self-assessment of being evolved and civilized. Clearly, not so much. But neither struggle nor obstacle has ever blocked Babatunde for long. Eventually, he, along with the Black Opera Alliance, stood up against the old school opera establishment and he broke free from their stagnant rules when he launched his hiphopera style which has been embraced by ever growing fan base and the media. Please join us for another amazing life story on Open Deeply. Jimanekia Eborn, trauma specialist and founder of Tending the Garden, joins us again to process her life story from the previous episode. After witnessing her mother's murder at age one, Jimanekia's inner child has had a lot of healing to do. But she candidly tells us that self-healing has not always been on the forefront of her mind. In her early years, many times, she admits to going off course down roads that led to more trauma for herself. Other times, through her work in the mental health industry, she has put another survivor's healing before her own. Regardless, she explains that she has always had the instinct to “make her mommy proud” and so both her self-healing and her vision for helping others has persevered. In this episode, we talk about everything from her unexpected connection to pro wrestling, her philosophy on the importance of positive destruction along with her desire to “fuck up and rebuild the sex ed community”, a rally cry that all three of us can get behind for the good of humankind. Jimanekia Eborn, who refers to herself as a “child of trauma”, takes us on her powerful life journey from witnessing her mother being brutally murdered at the age of one to becoming an inspiring expert in the areas of sexual trauma support and sex education with a special love for helping those with marginalized identities. Her childhood included many struggles related to class, race, and bodily autonomy. By age twelve, she had already learned that Black bodies are commodified which contributed to her difficulties with internalized body shame and her choice to keep her sexual awakening very private. Despite never being kissed until age seventeen, college was a game changer. Here, she discovered the “power of her pussy”. She organically found non-monogamy and even experienced her first play party. After college, Jimanekia traversed the mental health field, finally finding her soul's love while holding space for sexual abuse survivors, helping them heal while concurrently educating on healthy, shame free sex. Destin Gerek, once the Erotic Rockstar and now founder of the Evolved Masculine, is a globally recognized leading voice in masculinity, sexuality, and personal empowerment, but he didn't start there. He was profoundly changed after witnessing the pain of his high school girlfriend who is a rape survivor. His deep empathy for her led him to question our concept of masculinity and masculinity within himself for years. Later, he became a victim of police brutality causing him to fall into an existential questioning of humanity. But life has never let Destin retreat for long. Fate led him to Mexico, where he initially hung with a group of Mexican Zapatista revolutionaries, but finally found a spiritual group rooted in a Toltec philosophy. It was these visionary thinkers that shifted his life trajectory and world view. His next phase included traveling the world, experiencing many incarnations, and an epic sexual odyssey. Finally, he morphed into the man he is today, directly supporting thousands of men to have better sex, deeper connections to their masculine power, women, and themselves. After Sunny's, Siri's, and Kate's bios all had themes of emotional over giving, we decided to devote episode seven solely to unpacking what over giving is, why we do it, and how to heal. A long overdue spotlight is shone on how our patriarchal culture fiercely gas lights over givers, who are predominately women, and why. The over giver/over taker relationship dynamic in the U.S. is rampant in both monogamous and non-monogamous relationships. The reasons for it are not just psychological, but most definitely cultural as well. And it's as American as guns and porn. Note: The term over-giver is used instead of co-dependent, because many people do not identify with everything that is associated with co-dependency. Overgiving can be defined as emotionally over-extending yourself and sacrificing your own boundaries to please the over-taker in your life. So please join us for another episode of Open Deeply as we dive into hearts and minds of over givers and culture that shapes them.
