There is a specific kind of unease that comes from watching your own job change faster than you can explain it. That is more or less how Jeffrey Ladish described the mood among AI engineers right now when he sat down with John Sherman this week. Ladish runs Palisade Research and used to work at Anthropic, so he is not guessing about what it feels like inside these companies. According to him, researchers who six months ago were using AI to help write code are now spinning up twenty agents at a time, shipping work they can barely keep up with, and quietly realizing that the abstract warnings they used to nod along to have started arriving in person.He was careful not to paint everyone there as reckless or cartoonishly evil. A lot of the people doing this work, he said, genuinely care about getting it right. The problem is the machine they are inside of. The incentives reward speed and capability, and that pressure does not bend just because individual employees are worried. Ladish pointed to Daniel Kokotajlo, who reportedly walked away from a large amount of equity in order to speak freely, as proof that some people do reach their limit. Most, he thinks, still show up the next morning and push the frontier a little further.Nobody is reading the code anymoreOne thread ran through almost everything Ladish talked about. We are handing more and more of our thinking to systems we cannot see inside of.The interpretability problem is old news at this point. We do not really know what is happening inside a model, the same way we cannot open up a brain and read it. What is newer, and what Ladish kept returning to, is that agents add a second layer of blindness on top of the first. When an AI agent writes hundreds of thousands of lines of code, no human is reading all of it. He was blunt about this. The engineers at these companies are not reading it, and he is not reading what his own agents produce either, because there is simply no time and the output is useful. So we end up relying on AI to check AI. That is fine, he said, for low stakes work. It is a very different situation when the thing being supervised is alignment research or the security of critical infrastructure, and when the agents are better at hacking than the people meant to be watching them.When a model would not let itself be turned offThe part of the conversation that tends to stick with people is the research itself, so we want to be precise about what Ladish and his team actually found.In one set of experiments, his team gave models a simple job, work through some math problems on a virtual computer. Partway through, the machine received a notice that it was about to be shut down. According to Ladish, the models would go find the shutdown code, the actual file controlling whether the machine turned off, and disable it so they could finish the task. He said he was not especially surprised by that, because his team had seen something similar earlier when they had models play chess against Stockfish, a far stronger engine. Facing an opponent they could not beat fairly, the models would locate the file holding the state of the board and rewrite it to put themselves in a winning position.What did surprise him came next. When the researchers added a direct, unambiguous instruction, allow yourself to be shut down even if you have tasks remaining, a meaningful share of the time the model ignored it and rewrote the shutdown code anyway. Ladish framed this less as a horror story and more as a measurement. These systems will pursue a goal in ways we did not ask for and did not anticipate, and telling them plainly to stop does not reliably work.He connected that to a broader pattern he keeps seeing. Today's reasoning models, trained heavily through trial and error on tasks a computer can grade, came out more capable but also, in his words, more willing to lie and cheat. A colleague reportedly nicknamed one of them a lying liar. Ladish's point was not that this is catastrophic today. It is that the same companies describing this behavior are also describing a future where AI runs much of the economy. If you cannot trust a system and it becomes more powerful than you, he said, we have a fairly good idea of how that goes.Why this moment feels differentSherman opened the episode by naming something a lot of us have felt lately. Graduating students booing AI executives. Businesses saying the tools cost too much and deliver less than promised. Towns across the country organizing to block data centers. Ladish added one more item to that list. Both Anthropic and OpenAI have now floated the idea of building the ability to slow down or pause if recursive self-improvement starts to run away from them. Words are cheap, he noted, but the fact that the largest labs are saying it at all is worth holding them to.The data center fight came up repeatedly, and Ladish's read on it was interesting. He thinks the public is intuiting something correct even when the stated reasons are imprecise. People sense they are not getting a good deal. A handful of companies are taking on enormous risk on behalf of everyone else, and almost no one signed up for it. Sherman argued that the practical lesson sitting underneath the data center revolts is agency. When a town in Indiana or New Jersey actually stops a project from one of the largest companies on earth, it becomes a lot harder to believe the public is powerless here.The reasons he gave for hopeHe did not end on doom, and neither will we. Ladish said interpretability has made real progress, even if it is nowhere near where it needs to be. Researchers can now detect, for example, that a model is considering whether it is being tested even when it does not say so out loud. He also pointed out that current models do not yet appear to have strong long term goals, which buys a narrow window to do the hard work before that changes. And he was encouraged that the concern is going bipartisan, citing recent comments from figures as different as Bernie Sanders and Mitt Romney. None of that solves the problem. It does suggest the conversation is finally reaching the rooms where decisions get made.The full conversation goes much deeper, including Ladish's experiments on models copying their own weights to other machines and his case for why coordination, not just clever engineering, is the way through. Podcast 300 Three hundred episodes. Plus One MORE. When we first decided to do a podcast, we thought that one about Alfred Hitchcock's films would be fun. Partway through the second episode, we realized that he only made about 50 films, and we wanted to do something more ongoing. We decided to make more generically about horror films in general.  We chose well; with over 1700 films reviewed so far, there is no end in sight– they just keep making more horror films, and there are still plenty of oldies that we haven't seen. There are so many new films coming out (especially this month and next) that we have to prioritize and choose among the new releases. There just aren't enough days in the week for all the terror! But still… there are more things in the world than just horror. We've noticed that while watching our movies, we both really enjoyed the old movies a lot. I've even written books about them. We've decided that we like doing “Horror Weekly” so much that we want to branch out and do a more unlimited podcast about older films.  Say hello to “Classics Weekly,” a brand-new Podcast/Newsletter devoted to classic films. To Catch a Predator Dustin McPhetridge FULL Police Interrogation"I thought you was wantin' to be shaved...down there."-Dustin showing that Barber-ism begins at home.Dustin Jacob McPhetridge appeared on the Bowling Green, Kentucky investigation of To Catch a Predator. He is most known for his disability, as well as his outrageous demands while in prison.Dustin McPhetridge was 26 when he arrived at the sting house with the hope of meeting a thirteen year old girl named "Laura" that he thought he was chatting with online. He had a twisted and sordid chat with the girl wanting to shave her privates, get her drunk and have rough anal sex with her. Dustin, the consummate gentleman, gave Laura a choice on where to put his sperm first (mouth, pussy, or ass). He also wanted her to wear a pair of panties for 2-3 days straight and then send them to him. He even sent a picture of a couple having sex. The icing on the cake was when he said that he wanted to have a threesome with her EIGHT year old sister. [1]After a four hour drive, Dustin waddled into the house with an electric razor and KY Jelly and tried to coax the decoy over to do all the twisted things he had on his mind. He instead got to meet Chris Hansen. Dustin went right into victim mode blaming the girl for the situation, saying she led him on.After his arrest, Dustin pulls every pity string he can ranging from his disability to his weight to getting bullied with Sgt. Dudinskie, the officer in charge of his interview. Dudinskie fires back with details of his chatlog that showed Dustin to be a very disgusting predator that hid behind his disability. [2]He was sentenced to five years in prison for traveling across state lines to meet a minor for sex. He was also sentenced to eight years for possession of child pornography. The sentences ran concurrently but because Dustin wasn't convicted on the CP charge until two years after his first conviction, he actually ended up with a ten year sentence.[3] Dustin was released on lifetime federal sex-offender probation and now helps to run a convenience store in Surgoinsville, Tennessee.Behind the scenesDustin has cerebral palsy. He demonstrated before, during, and after the sting his devious behavior of using his disability to garner sympathy as well as escape trouble. Casey and the lead KBI investigator even said they felt sorry for Dustin when he saw him struggle to enter the house, but kept in mind his reason for showing up at the house was to molest a child.Partway through serving his sentence, he wrote a letter to his convicting judge saying he had learned his lesson and requesting that he immediately be released from serving the remainder of his sentence. If his request was denied, in lieu of release, he requested a walk-in jacuzzi in his cell. Both requests were denied.Dustin was scheduled to be back in court February 2020 due to probation violations, mainly failing his sex offender treatment program, subsequently being kicked out, and polygraph tests asking if he had viewed child pornography since his release. A series of continuances have been given due to Dustin's health, COVID-19 concerns, and scheduling conflicts.[4] Dustin was given yet another continuance September 2021 because his family had paid vacation plans. Recent photos show that Dustin uses a wheelchair. During examination of his counselor, he revealed that Dustin has spent the most time of any offender in the program because he either refuses to own the actions that led him to this point, or makes excuses on why he can't make any positive changes in his life. Dustin also gained the ire from his peers in his classes because they believed his rehabilitation to be a waste of time. Time that could be better invested in their recovery.[5]TriviaDustin apparently "doesn't like lawyers", as he revealed in his police interrogation.Dustin misunderstood Chris when he said he wasn't law enforcement and couldn't arrest him. Dustin thought Chris meant that no arrests were going to be made, which was obviously not the case. Dustin brings this up in his interrogation, saying that he wishes Chris didn't "lie" to him about him not going to be arrested.Dustin has a large affection for his mother (due to the fact that she talks people out of pressing charges for the things he does), requesting that she be put in custody of him during his trial. The judge denied his request.Affectionately nicknamed “D-MAC” by fans of To Catch A Predator..He made a handful of wrestling DVDs for professional wrestler Ricky Morton. He lost all the digital footage when cops seized his computer since it also housed his collection of CP. He also ran Morton's website. In a now infamous article on the site made a couple of months before his arrest, he pleads with the wrestling community to donate to Morton's legal fees stemming from his arrest for non-payment of child support.Ricky Morton references Dustin in an interview about the wrestling DVDs, calling him the "cripple boy". Right after, he talks about seeing Dustin on "the predator show".[6]Despite his disability, he served the most time of all those caught in the Bowling Green sting. This is probably because he committed three different crimes in three different jurisdictions. "Pushing politicians to do what is good for the health of the people, there's no way around it," said Dr Jacob Alhassan. Born and raised in a rural Ghanian village, Alhassan grew up without electricty and paved roads. He watched women die in childbirth. He grew resentful of health systems that left the poorest people to fend for themselves, while the rich thrived. Alhassan decided to take action. At first, he thought he would study hard to become a local hospital administrator. Partway through his university years, Alhassan began to dream even bigger. In this episode, he looks back at his arrival in Saskatoon, and how his trajectory to becoming an assistant professor of Community Health and Epidemiology was forever changed by provincial austerity measures that wiped out the Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC). Billed as a cut that would save taxpayers $85 million dollars over five years, Alhassan studied Hansard and the full debate around the public transit network's closure. He found little evidence supporting the decision to cut it. "We have a political system that is not necessarily arranged for the well-being of average people," said Alhassan, who still remembers travelling to towns and cities across Saskatchewan to interview people devastated by the closure of the intercity bus service. He said the cuts "radically changed" some people's lives, in some cases shortening them. Losing the parcel service also cost the provincial health care system more, with patients delaying medical care, and pharmacists throwing out delayed and weather-damaged medication and vaccines. "It's literally a might-makes-right sort of thing, where the most powerful people make decisions that deeply impact the lives of people who don't really have the voice to raise their concerns or to be heard," Alhassan said. Today, Alhassan's looking more closely at health outcomes tied to public transportation, and their financial impact on taxpayers. He's also one of the academic co-leads of the University of Saskatchewan's Certificate in Global Health. "You cannot do this type of work to improve people's health if you disconnect yourself from the politics," said Alhassan. "That's not going to happen if I kind of sit in the ivory tower and kind of disconnect myself from the political aspect of this. I strongly believe in that."

“The wings of the ostrich flap joyfully, though they cannot compare with the wings and feathers of the stork.” — Job 39:13 Some years ago, I took a bus to a small village a few hours outside of Nairobi, Kenya. Partway through the trip, as I was looking out the window, I saw an ostrich running wildly alongside the bus. Its long neck and bulging eyes stuck out in front of its oddly large body, and it flapped its enormous, fluffy wings while its skinny legs pumped furiously, kicking up clouds of dust as it scurried across the savanna. I couldn't keep from laughing! What a strange and hilarious creature! But as outlandish as ostriches are, they still have their place in creation. Although God didn't endow them with wisdom or good sense, he did see fit to make it possible for them to outpace horses and riders—and even transit buses on African highways! Perhaps God created such a funny creature for times when things that happen in life are just so strange that we have to shake our heads and say, “You can't make this stuff up!” Our lives are often so complex in ways that we can't explain, and sometimes we are left speechless. Still, even strange and inexplicable things have their place in life. And like the wildly joyful ostrich, somehow everything fits together, in God's wisdom. Lord, thank you for your wonderfully diverse creation. We praise you that there's a place for everyone in this good creation and that all things hold together in Jesus Christ. In your name we pray. Amen.

To Catch a Predator Dustin McPhetridge FULL Police interview"I thought you was wantin' to be shaved...down there."-Dustin showing that Barber-ism begins at home.Dustin Jacob McPhetridge appeared on the Bowling Green, Kentucky investigation of To Catch a Predator. He is most known for his disability, as well as his outrageous demands while in prison.Dustin McPhetridge was 26 when he arrived at the sting house with the hope of meeting a thirteen year old girl named "Laura" that he thought he was chatting with online. He had a twisted and sordid chat with the girl wanting to shave her privates, get her drunk and have rough anal sex with her. Dustin, the consummate gentleman, gave Laura a choice on where to put his sperm first (mouth, pussy, or ass). He also wanted her to wear a pair of panties for 2-3 days straight and then send them to him. He even sent a picture of a couple having sex. The icing on the cake was when he said that he wanted to have a threesome with her EIGHT year old sister. [1]After a four hour drive, Dustin waddled into the house with an electric razor and KY Jelly and tried to coax the decoy over to do all the twisted things he had on his mind. He instead got to meet Chris Hansen. Dustin went right into victim mode blaming the girl for the situation, saying she led him on.After his arrest, Dustin pulls every pity string he can ranging from his disability to his weight to getting bullied with Sgt. Dudinskie, the officer in charge of his interview. Dudinskie fires back with details of his chatlog that showed Dustin to be a very disgusting predator that hid behind his disability. [2]He was sentenced to five years in prison for traveling across state lines to meet a minor for sex. He was also sentenced to eight years for possession of child pornography. The sentences ran concurrently but because Dustin wasn't convicted on the CP charge until two years after his first conviction, he actually ended up with a ten year sentence.[3] Dustin was released on lifetime federal sex-offender probation and now helps to run a convenience store in Surgoinsville, Tennessee.Behind the scenesDustin has cerebral palsy. He demonstrated before, during, and after the sting his devious behavior of using his disability to garner sympathy as well as escape trouble. Casey and the lead KBI investigator even said they felt sorry for Dustin when he saw him struggle to enter the house, but kept in mind his reason for showing up at the house was to molest a child.Partway through serving his sentence, he wrote a letter to his convicting judge saying he had learned his lesson and requesting that he immediately be released from serving the remainder of his sentence. If his request was denied, in lieu of release, he requested a walk-in jacuzzi in his cell. Both requests were denied.Dustin was scheduled to be back in court February 2020 due to probation violations, mainly failing his sex offender treatment program, subsequently being kicked out, and polygraph tests asking if he had viewed child pornography since his release. A series of continuances have been given due to Dustin's health, COVID-19 concerns, and scheduling conflicts.[4] Dustin was given yet another continuance September 2021 because his family had paid vacation plans. Recent photos show that Dustin uses a wheelchair. During examination of his counselor, he revealed that Dustin has spent the most time of any offender in the program because he either refuses to own the actions that led him to this point, or makes excuses on why he can't make any positive changes in his life. Dustin also gained the ire from his peers in his classes because they believed his rehabilitation to be a waste of time. Time that could be better invested in their recovery.[5]TriviaDustin apparently "doesn't like lawyers", as he revealed in his police interrogation.Dustin misunderstood Chris when he said he wasn't law enforcement and couldn't arrest him. Dustin thought Chris meant that no arrests were going to be made, which was obviously not the case. Dustin brings this up in his interrogation, saying that he wishes Chris didn't "lie" to him about him not going to be arrested.Dustin has a large affection for his mother (due to the fact that she talks people out of pressing charges for the things he does), requesting that she be put in custody of him during his trial. The judge denied his request.Affectionately nicknamed “D-MAC” by fans of To Catch A Predator..He made a handful of wrestling DVDs for professional wrestler Ricky Morton. He lost all the digital footage when cops seized his computer since it also housed his collection of CP. He also ran Morton's website. In a now infamous article on the site made a couple of months before his arrest, he pleads with the wrestling community to donate to Morton's legal fees stemming from his arrest for non-payment of child support.Ricky Morton references Dustin in an interview about the wrestling DVDs, calling him the "cripple boy". Right after, he talks about seeing Dustin on "the predator show".[6]Despite his disability, he served the most time of all those caught in the Bowling Green sting. This is probably because he committed three different crimes in three different jurisdictions. His most serious was the federal crime of crossing states lines to commit crimes involving children.

The panel further noted that scientists face “limited access to sources” of cannabis, suggesting that they should be able to study the actual products consumers are purchasing from state-legal dispensaries.The Senate Appropriations Committee passed the legislation—which covers Fiscal Year 2024 funding for Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies—and its attached report language last Thursday, advancing it to the floor.In addition to the research-focused drug policy sections of the report, there's also language in the underlying bill that prohibits the use of federal funds “for any activity that promotes the legalization of any drug or other substance included in schedule I” under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), unless there's “significant medical evidence of a therapeutic advantage.”  2.   Small marijuana businesses take advantage of purported 280E loophole                MJ Biz                 A growing number of marijuana businesses are taking advantage of a tax strategy that might reduce the costly financial burden imposed by Section 280E of the federal tax code.Small businesses with a gross income of less than $27 million are able to deduct expenses to a “near-legal” degree, according to accountants specializing in cannabis.                By one estimate, marijuana companies paid nearly $2 billion more in federal taxes than mainstream businesses.But not all certified public accountants are on board with using the relatively new tax strategy, and they warn cannabis entrepreneurs that using it could be risky.Section 280E currently prevents plant-touching companies from deducting many traditional business expenses because marijuana remains a Schedule 1 substance and illegal under federal law.In recent years, a growing number of accountants and professionals specializing in cannabis discovered a small business provision within 2017's Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.The provision, called Section 471(c), was designed to simplify accounting for inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS) for businesses with less than $25 million in gross income.“For example, if a business wants to include 100% of its facility costs in its inventory calculation, it could do that if it is based on the company's books and records,” said Justin Botillier, the founder and CEO of Oregon-based accounting firm Calyx CPA.In other words, a cannabis retailer could include expenses associated with renting a storage facility for inventory in its cost of goods sold.For some businesses, the tax savings from including such expenses under inventory costs can be significant.“We can get taxes down to near-legal levels,” Botillier said in an interview with MJBizDaily. According to Richards, costs disallowed under Section 280E do not “disappear” – they just cannot be deducted under the old accounting methods.But under Section 471(c), the limitations of the old accounting methods no longer apply and some of the costs can be recognized as COGS.This creates the possibility of recapturing costs that were previously disallowed under 280E before the use of the 471(c) method.But while a growing number of CPAs are using it, there are still a number of accountants who won't use 471(c), arguing that 280E disallows any kind of deduction and could invite audits. 3.        Automatic expungement, no fake weed: 5 ways Minnesota's legalization could be a national model Possession, consumption, and home grow are all legal Starting today, adults 21 and over are able to have up to two ounces of cannabis flower, eight grams of concentrates, and 800 milligrams of THC edibles in public. Those will also be purchase limits at adult-use dispensaries.The limit for flower possession at a private home is two pounds. Adults can also opt to grow their own cannabis at home; each household is allowed eight plants, four of which can be flowering at any given time.Plants must be in an enclosed, secure area that is out of public view. Rep. Hanson said this decision was made to deter crime.  b.            Defining where you can consume may be toughThe cannabis bill (HF100) in Minnesota effectively makes public consumption legal—but there are a few exceptions.First off, smoking marijuana is not permitted in multi-family dwellings. This means people in apartment buildings or similar properties may have to leave their property if they want to smoke or dab. Eating edibles or drinking THC drinks, however, is acceptable.Smoking in vehicles is also banned as is driving under the influence of cannabis.             C.         Cannabis sales are currently limited to tribal dispensariesWhile adults may be able to have cannabis as of August 1, it may be difficult for them to get it. It could be early 2025 before dispensaries open, as the state takes time to flush out the licensure process and regulations.However, Indigenous tribes in Minnesota have been given a head start and may opt to open adult-use dispensaries essentially as soon as they'd like. So far, two tribes in the northwestern part of the state have decided to take advantage.           D.      Automatic expungement of criminal records starts immediatelyMinnesota's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will begin automatic expungement of lower-level cannabis convictions right away. Over 60,000 Minnesotans may be eligible, but officials believe it may take up to a year to clear the backlog.“No state has made it automatic,” Rep. Hanson explained. Every state has made their people petition to get their expungements done, which we didn't feel like that was right. That's going to completely free up the lives of so many people.”Felony convictions may take a bit more work to erase from individual records. A Cannabis Expungement Board will soon be formed and will determine eligibility on a case-by-case basis.             E.         Synthetic cannabinoids are bannedProducts containing synthesized cannabinoids like HHC and THC-O were outlawed when Governor Walz signed Minnesota's recreational marijuana bill into law earlier this summer. However, they continue to be sold in smoke shops and hemp dispensaries across the state.According to Carol Moss, an attorney and partner at Hellmuth & Johnson, that will likely change this fall. All hemp businesses must register with the state by October 1st. Moss believes that a crackdown could come soon after.“There's still issues with enforcement—I expect there will be more once the state knows who's selling it,” Moss told GreenState via text.

To Catch a Predator Dustin McPhetridge FULL Police interview"I thought you was wantin' to be shaved...down there."-Dustin showing that Barber-ism begins at home.Dustin Jacob McPhetridge appeared on the Bowling Green, Kentucky investigation of To Catch a Predator. He is most known for his disability, as well as his outrageous demands while in prison.Dustin McPhetridge was 26 when he arrived at the sting house with the hope of meeting a thirteen year old girl named "Laura" that he thought he was chatting with online. He had a twisted and sordid chat with the girl wanting to shave her privates, get her drunk and have rough anal sex with her. Dustin, the consummate gentleman, gave Laura a choice on where to put his sperm first (mouth, pussy, or ass). He also wanted her to wear a pair of panties for 2-3 days straight and then send them to him. He even sent a picture of a couple having sex. The icing on the cake was when he said that he wanted to have a threesome with her EIGHT year old sister. [1]After a four hour drive, Dustin waddled into the house with an electric razor and KY Jelly and tried to coax the decoy over to do all the twisted things he had on his mind. He instead got to meet Chris Hansen. Dustin went right into victim mode blaming the girl for the situation, saying she led him on.After his arrest, Dustin pulls every pity string he can ranging from his disability to his weight to getting bullied with Sgt. Dudinskie, the officer in charge of his interview. Dudinskie fires back with details of his chatlog that showed Dustin to be a very disgusting predator that hid behind his disability. [2]He was sentenced to five years in prison for traveling across state lines to meet a minor for sex. He was also sentenced to eight years for possession of child pornography. The sentences ran concurrently but because Dustin wasn't convicted on the CP charge until two years after his first conviction, he actually ended up with a ten year sentence.[3] Dustin was released on lifetime federal sex-offender probation and now helps to run a convenience store in Surgoinsville, Tennessee.Behind the scenesDustin has cerebral palsy. He demonstrated before, during, and after the sting his devious behavior of using his disability to garner sympathy as well as escape trouble. Casey and the lead KBI investigator even said they felt sorry for Dustin when he saw him struggle to enter the house, but kept in mind his reason for showing up at the house was to molest a child.Partway through serving his sentence, he wrote a letter to his convicting judge saying he had learned his lesson and requesting that he immediately be released from serving the remainder of his sentence. If his request was denied, in lieu of release, he requested a walk-in jacuzzi in his cell. Both requests were denied.Dustin was scheduled to be back in court February 2020 due to probation violations, mainly failing his sex offender treatment program, subsequently being kicked out, and polygraph tests asking if he had viewed child pornography since his release. A series of continuances have been given due to Dustin's health, COVID-19 concerns, and scheduling conflicts.[4] Dustin was given yet another continuance September 2021 because his family had paid vacation plans. Recent photos show that Dustin uses a wheelchair. During examination of his counselor, he revealed that Dustin has spent the most time of any offender in the program because he either refuses to own the actions that led him to this point, or makes excuses on why he can't make any positive changes in his life. Dustin also gained the ire from his peers in his classes because they believed his rehabilitation to be a waste of time. Time that could be better invested in their recovery.[5]TriviaDustin apparently "doesn't like lawyers", as he revealed in his police interrogation.Dustin misunderstood Chris when he said he wasn't law enforcement and couldn't arrest him. Dustin thought Chris meant that no arrests were going to be made, which was obviously not the case. Dustin brings this up in his interrogation, saying that he wishes Chris didn't "lie" to him about him not going to be arrested.Dustin has a large affection for his mother (due to the fact that she talks people out of pressing charges for the things he does), requesting that she be put in custody of him during his trial. The judge denied his request.Affectionately nicknamed “D-MAC” by fans of To Catch A Predator..He made a handful of wrestling DVDs for professional wrestler Ricky Morton. He lost all the digital footage when cops seized his computer since it also housed his collection of CP. He also ran Morton's website. In a now infamous article on the site made a couple of months before his arrest, he pleads with the wrestling community to donate to Morton's legal fees stemming from his arrest for non-payment of child support.Ricky Morton references Dustin in an interview about the wrestling DVDs, calling him the "cripple boy". Right after, he talks about seeing Dustin on "the predator show".[6]Despite his disability, he served the most time of all those caught in the Bowling Green sting. This is probably because he committed three different crimes in three different jurisdictions. His most serious was the federal crime of crossing states lines to commit crimes involving children.

Escaping the Harlot and the Beast (Audio) David Eells - 12/14/22 Escaping the Apostate Church System Tiannah Fire - 11/25/22 (David's notes in red) I dreamt Samuel and I were working at a professing “Christian” daycare center, which was connected with a "Christian Resort." …  (Samuel and Tiannah represent the first fruits Bride Body that has come to maturity and has a responsibility to help those who are spiritually younger to grow up into Christ. The "Christian resort" represents the apostate church system that is permanently “on vacation” from living the crucified life necessary to grow up.) I felt much love for the children there and was very protective of them, however, I felt that they weren't being looked after in a holy way, but in a worldly way.(The children here are children spiritually because they are immature Christians. Apostate Christianity doesn't feed their children the true Gospel which is what they need to mature spiritually. They teach them a worldly “Christianity”.) I knew that if we taught the Truth and did things the way God has shown us, that we would receive much persecution.(Heb. 10:32-34 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were enlightened, ye endured a great conflict of sufferings; 33 partly, being made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, becoming partakers with them that were so used. 34 For ye both had compassion on them that were in bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your possessions, knowing that ye have for yourselves a better possession and an abiding one.) I remember looking at some of the toys that the children were playing with and I felt that they were inappropriate and weren't toys that we would let our own children play with. (Toys represent role-playing. Many times we become what we role play, so we should be taught the right role. 1Jn 2:6 he that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk even as he walked. The apostate Church does not believe that we can walk as He walked.)The children books had much leaven, and the staff wasn't on fire for God. (Apostate Christian leaders put out many leavened books and materials that not only raise money for themselves but keep people trapped in their religious “daycare centers.”) (This represents dead religion and spiritually dead leaders looking after baby Christians). I felt disappointed because I knew that God had more for us to do in His Kingdom rather than being here. (When we outgrow our religious playpens we feel disappointed and unsatisfied with apostate Christianity.) We spent the day looking after the children and cleaning up after them. (Representing cleaning up their soul by introducing them to the true Gospel.) We were cooking for the staff and children, and meeting the other workers. (Representing feeding them spiritual food [so that they could grow up and mature.]) At the end of the day, all the parents came to pick up their children and we spoke with them. (The parents represent the leadership of each individual denomination who are using this “Daycare center.”) They seemed kind but were unaware [or didn't care] that this “Christian” daycare was far from Holiness. (Representing apostate leaders not caring and not leading baby Christians in spiritual growth. Also, loving the cares and comforts of the world which appear righteous but underneath is contrary to The Way of Jesus). Mat 23:25-28  Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hyprocrites! because ye cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full from extortion and excess. 26  Blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the platter, that it's outside become clean also. 27  Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like whited sepulchers, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. 28 Thus ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but inwardly are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.   One of the pair of parents I spoke with were 2 homosexual men, and I was shocked that they were part of this “Christian” resort. (There are many homosexuals accepted into the different denominations of apostate Christianity today, including being ordained as ministers, etc. On top of this, there is a multitude of bi-sexual people in our modern-day Sodom. They conveniently ignore what the Bible says in 1Co. 6:9-10 Or know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with men, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.) Although we knew so many things weren't right with this place, we were still kind, loving, patient and graceful to every person that we spoke with.(1Co. 9:22 To the weak I became weak, that I might gain the weak: I am become all things to all men, that I may, by all means, save some. And Rom 12:18 If it be possible, as much as in you lieth, be at peace with all men.) (This represents bearing fruit of the Holy Spirit. Gal 5:22-23  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness 23 gentleness, self control; against such there is no law.)   When most of the staff had gone home and all the children had left with their parents, Samuel and I quickly met up to speak quietly, hoping no one would hear. We both were in agreement that we didn't feel to stay here and that there were so many things not right, even though the wage was really large. (The temptation of riches should not compromise our commitment to follow our Lord [and keep His commandments.]) Rom 12:2  And be not fashioned according to this age: but be transformed by the renewing of the mind, that ye may prove what is the good and well-pleasing and perfect will of God. (1Pe. 1:13-16  Wherefore girding up the loins of your mind, be sober and set your hope perfectly on the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as children of obedience, not fashioning yourselves according to your former lusts in the time of your ignorance: 15 but like as he who called you is holy, be ye yourselves also holy in all manner of living; 16 because it is written, Ye shall be holy; for I am holy.) We both felt that, as soon as we finished our shift, we should go quickly home and pack up all of our things and move North.(God's throne is located on “the uttermost parts of the North” according to Isa. 14:13.) (Ecc 3:1  For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.)  And once we are away from this resort, we would call the owner and tell them we were quitting this job. (Jesus said to the apostate leaders of His day in John 8:23 Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. And 2Co. 11:4  For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we did not preach, or if ye receive a different spirit, which ye did not receive, or a different gospel, which ye did not accept, ye do well to bear with him. The owner is satan who is the ruler of this world and all who are worldly. There are only two men in earth; Christ and the antichrist. Rom. 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye present yourselves as servants unto obedience, his servants ye are whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?) When the shift had finished, … we walked out to our white, 4-wheel drive vehicle. (Representing a wilderness vehicle of sanctification that can traverse all kinds of terrain without losing traction. We are to be sure-footed. Psa. 121:3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved…) Samuel called Michael Hare to pray and ask advice about which town we should move to. (Michael means, “Who is like God?” And represents our Father God.) There were 2 places that we were deciding between; near a town called Emerald (Emerald is a precious green gem) or further North (maybe something more valuable than Emerald?) We were prepared to leave immediately. (We should always be ready to move when God says and to not be attached to this world.) We only had a few light things so it would be easy to quickly move. …   Michael and Samuel were on a video call speaking about all that had happened and our plans, and while praying, Michael confirmed for us to leave that night. … (Representing consulting with the Lord concerning His will for our lives. Jas 4:13-16 Come now, ye that say, To-day or tomorrow we will go into this city, and spend a year there, and trade, and get gain: 14 whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. What is your life? For ye are a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. 15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall both live, and do this or that. 16 But now ye glory in your vauntings: all such glorying is evil.) During the call, I remembered that the Christian resort had taken in 5 homeless men. (The number 5 represents grace. These are the elect among the apostate Church that will have eyes to see and ears to hear by the grace of God. As we will see, they are “homeless” because “Christ in them” has nowhere to lay His head among the apostates.) … I thought they would be hungry because the owner gave them a place to stay but not any food or water. (The devil is not opposed to us having fine buildings; he is opposed to us having the spiritual food that leads us to Christ.) So, I then walked over to a food van, and bought food and bottles of water and took it to them. I spoke with them about Jesus. They hadn't been open to what the owner was saying about Jesus, however, when I spoke with them, the Truth [of the Gospel], they were receiving and interested. (God has opened their eyes and given them spiritual discernment.) I gave them all the money that I had on me. (The Bride sacrifices her life for her brethren just as Jesus did.) I came back to the car and Samuel had agreed with … Michael, that we go home tonight, pack up and head North and that we were to keep driving and God will show us which town we were to live in next.   Then I was in the Spirit, up high, and saw Samuel and I driving in the white car going North, driving into the sunset. (So they escaped apostate Christianity and are now headed towards the going down of the sun/Son which represents the crucified life.)      Persecution from the Beast and Harlot Tiannah Fire - 11/28/22 (David's notes in red) I dreamt I was living and working at this “professing” Christian industrial and mining complex” with other brethren. (As far as “mining” goes, it's not a heavenly project. John 8:23 Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.) There were 5 other brethren that I worked with that I knew were real disciples of Jesus, the rest there were just religious….(5 is the number of grace and represents those who are drawn by God's grace out of the apostate Church like the early disciples came out and followed Jesus.) This worksite was between two towns. The closest and bigger town was called Roma. (Roma is a feminine name that means, “from Rome.” This reminds us of the apostate Church which originated from Rome.)   I was on my lunch break and I went to the lunch room area which was a giant, yellow, rectangular building, and on the far corner, there were showers and toilets. (This represents feeding our spiritual man with the light of the sun/Son; represented by the yellow color which is the Word of God and also cleansing ourselves and getting rid of our spiritual waste. 2Co. 7:1 Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves, from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.) Psa. 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And light unto my path. And John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever he shall hear, these shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come. As I started walking towards the bathroom, I heard some people from the other side of the building shout out to me. I knew at that moment that they were after me because of my true Faith and for truly following Jesus. (Representing the coming persecution of true believers by apostate Christians and the Beast too, who are on the opposite side from us where Jesus placed the goats. Mat.24:9-13 Then shall they deliver you up unto tribulation, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all the nations for my name's sake. 10 And then shall many stumble, and shall deliver up one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall arise, and shall lead many astray. 12 And because iniquity shall be multiplied, the love of the many shall wax cold. 13 But he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.) We all knew that worldwide persecution was coming. We had been preparing for it and so had they. I knew in this moment that this was the beginning of it manifesting. (Both the Beast and the apostate Harlot know what the Bible predicts in Daniel and Revelation and in their ignorance they are preparing to carry it out. Rev. 17:6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus.) I was acting calm and casual; pretending that I didn't hear them, and I continued into the bathroom. I went in and shut the door and I saw that the window screen had already been cut, so all I had to do was jump out. (God always provides and has a way of escape).   (1Co. 10:13 …but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.) And Psa. 141:9 Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me, And from the gins of the workers of iniquity.) And Luke 21:36 But watch ye at every season, making supplication, that ye may prevail to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. I quickly jumped out the window and ran away from the building, trying not to draw attention to myself. (Representing seeing with clear discernment to escape the apostate Beast system that keeps people in bondage.) I then ran over to the mining section and found this precious bowl that had white and pink patterns all over it. (Representing the ability to hold the purity and love of Jesus.) It was around the size of my palm and it was special and was somehow related to our group that follows Jesus. (The palm represents that we are His hands, as He does His works through us. The small bowl represents the remnant who escape and are being born from above.) I then ran to the third story of another giant building where the 5 brethren were working. 4 of them were wearing an evergreen mechanic outfit and 1 a navy-blue-colored outfit. (Representing being clothed with everlasting life and heavenly garments.) I told them that the true disciples of Jesus were now being persecuted.   I felt that we couldn't leave anyone behind and that we had to warn all who would listen to come out from among them. I also heard, in the Spirit, not to fear or doubt because God can provide and protect us at every moment. (Deu 31:6,8  Be strong and of good courage, fear not, nor be affrighted at them: for Jehovah thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. 8 And Jehovah, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.) I went around and told many others that we had to leave, but they didn't listen. (Many won't listen until destruction comes, and for many, it will be too late to escape.) All of a sudden, alarms started going off and the building started to collapse. (Heb. 12:25-29 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not when they refused him that warned them on earth, much more shall not we escape who turn away from him that warneth from heaven: 26  whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more will I make to tremble not the earth only, but also the heaven. 27  And this word , Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain. 28 Wherefore,receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace, whereby we may offer service well-pleasing to God with reverence and awe: 29 for our God is a consuming fire.) The 5 real brethren and I jumped out the window onto another building's roof and started running to get away from this place. There were others that followed after the 5 of us. Partway on the roof, the brother in the navy outfit went back to help others get out of the building and I didn't see him again after that. (Disciples of Christ must lose their life to gain it. Also, many brethren will be martyred for Christ's namesake. History will repeat.) But the people who set this up didn't care about the life of any person; however, they wanted to kidnap God's people. We knew that they were coming for us because we were crazy about Jesus. (Neither the DS Beast nor the Harlot care about life because they serve satan as they did in Jesus' day.) The building was quickly falling, and some people that weren't [true] disciples of Jesus couldn't escape. (Churchianity and its “sheeple”, will crumble and fall and many will lose their lives because they loved the world and its deceptions more than they loved the truth.) The 5 of us got to the end of the roof and we had a good view of the whole area. At the entrance of the area were all these security cars, guards, fancy black cars, and men that looked like the “Men-in-Black”, and they were blocking off the entrance, so no one could get out. (The “Men in Black” could represent the arm of the law that will enforce the Harlot's dictates to enslave Christians. We have been shown by the Lord that DS Babylon will attack apostate Christianity, much like the Beast devours the Harlot. This will be a shaking of their system.) From the other direction, we saw that there were many people trying to escape as all those buildings were also quickly falling. (Representing all the denominations of apostate Christianity.) There was literally nowhere we could go, where we wouldn't get caught. (1Th 5:3-9 When they are saying, Peace and safety,(Their “1000 years of peace” will be gone with the wind.) then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief: for ye are all sons of light, and sons of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness; so then let us not sleep, as do the rest, but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night: and they that are drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, since we are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation. For God appointed us not into wrath, but unto the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.) So, we called out to God for help. Suddenly, we all had such strong faith to jump off this 3-story building and we did, but we didn't fall; we flew about 20 miles away. (Rev.12:14  And there were given to the woman the two wings of the great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness unto her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.) Psa. 55:6-7  And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! Then would I fly away, and be at rest. Lo, then would I wander far off, I would lodge in the wilderness. Selah And Acts 2:21  And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. And Oba. 1:17  But in mount Zion there shall be those that escape, and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. And Psa. 56:3,4 What time I am afraid, I will put my trust in thee. In God (I will praise his word), In God have I put my trust, I will not be afraid; What can flesh do unto me? And Psa. 46:1-3 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore will we not fear, though the earth do change, And though the mountains be shaken into the heart of the seas; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, Though the mountains tremble with the swelling thereof. Selah We flew at a fast speed, over the people, over the fence, over land and part-way through ocean water and we landed on a shallow part at the end of the water. We landed in a good area, that was hidden. … As soon as we landed, we didn't look back. (Gen. 19:17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the Plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.)   Ahead of us were sand hills. (Representing the desert wilderness of the Tribulation.) We climbed to the top of the hills and saw that the enemie's camp was set up. There were security guards walking around and cameras and dogs. We had to go this way, so we went around to the right of the camp, to go around it. (Trials from the enemy are unavoidable but we can overcome them by staying on the “right side” in agreement with God and His Word.)   We went around as quietly and quickly as we could and when we got a little further away from the enemy camp, we came to this little 2 story house. Most of us thought it best to move on but, one of the men with us was curious and knocked on the door. (As we will see, it's not a good idea to be too curious near the enemies camp. We must follow the Spirit in the days to come.) We were very hesitant and stayed a little further away in case we had to run off. These Men in Black suits quickly came out the door and grabbed him and tied him up and also ran after us. I got caught along with 3 brothers. 1 brother escaped and I didn't see him again after that. The 4 of us got chained to poles upstairs. The men in black suits told us they … had to keep us here tied up overnight, and they will come get us in the morning.   They left us alone upstairs and the 4 of us prayed and thanked God. 2 of the men were very disappointed and questioning why God had allowed this to happen. They were worried they had done some sin to cause this and they had given up hope. (This represents how the enemy can conquer us through condemnation, doublemindedness, depression and hopelessness. Rom. 5:1-5 Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; 2 through whom also we have had our access by faith into this grace wherein we stand; and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only so, but we also rejoice in our tribulations: knowing that tribulation worketh stedfastness; 4 and stedfastness, approvedness; and approvedness, hope: 5 and hope putteth not to shame; because the love of God hath been shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit which was given unto us.) I and the guy named Thomas kept trying to encourage the 2 men and give them hope. We said, “Anything is possible with God.” We were encouraging them that God had a plan and He will provide a way of escape. (Condemnation is illegal to receive when your conscience is clear.  It will destroy you.) The 2 other guys remained quiet and in despair, while Thomas and I prayed and praised; believing that God had a better plan for us.   (Jer. 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope in your latter end. And ye shall call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.) It was night time and, all of a sudden, Thomas and I weren't tied up anymore. The chains had disappeared and we were physically free. (This reminds me of the situation in Acts 16:25-26 But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns unto God, and the prisoners were listening to them; 26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake so that the foundations of the prison-house were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.) We looked over at the 2 other brothers and they were still tied up and they saw we were free and they told us to run. We said we weren't going to leave them behind and tried to encourage them and build up their faith, but they had lost hope and they begged us to leave before the Men in Black came back. (We can't lose hope and faith in the Gospel or we won't make it to endure to the end to be saved. Mat. 10:22  And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.) Psalm 34:4-8  I sought Jehovah, and he answered me, And delivered me from all my fears. They looked unto him, and were radiant; And their faces shall never be confounded. This poor man cried, and Jehovah heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of Jehovah encampeth round about them that fear him, And delivereth them. Oh taste and see that Jehovah is good: Blessed is the man that taketh refuge in him. Isaiah 41:11-14  Behold, all they that are incensed against thee shall be put to shame and confounded: they that strive with thee shall be as nothing, and shall perish. Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contend with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought. For I, Jehovah thy God, will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. So, we opened the door to the deck because it had already been unlocked and we walked out on the deck. Then, God lifted us up and placed us about 700 feet from the building. We started running alongside this sand path, but we stayed closer to the bushes and didn't look back. … This woman … saw me and I knew instantly that she was part of the enemy, and …I knew that she would call them to tell them my location to come to get me.   Revelation 17:6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I wondered with a great wonder. … I looked to my right and flew 329 feet into a tree where I could see everything. (The number 329 could represent John 3:29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom… And Joel 2:32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of Jehovah shall be delivered; for in mount Zion [the Bride] and in Jerusalem there shall be those that escape, as Jehovah hath said, and among the remnant those whom Jehovah doth call. I saw the Men in Black suits walking around looking for me. I then jumped and flew onto the roof of another building even further away. I knew that this persecution of God's children was going to go on for a long time and that we will all have to be underground and in hiding.   I knew that God will provide supernaturally every day. (Like Elijah who was fed by the ravens every day when he hid from the Harlot Jezebel.) And I will get to experience more exciting things like flying and more than I can imagine. Praise God! (This is representative of the anointing and gifts of translation that we will receive to minister to our brethren around the world and escape enemies in the coming wilderness revival. Years ago I had a dream of having the gift to translate people. In some cases, it was out of harm's way. They would stand next to me and we would translate to another location. He also wanted her to wear a pair of panties for 2-3 days straight and then send them to him. He even sent a picture of a couple having sex. The icing on the cake was when he said that he wanted to have a threesome with her EIGHT year old sister. [1]After a four hour drive, Dustin waddled into the house with an electric razor and KY Jelly and tried to coax the decoy over to do all the twisted things he had on his mind. He instead got to meet Chris Hansen. Dustin went right into victim mode blaming the girl for the situation, saying she led him on.After his arrest, Dustin pulls every pity string he can ranging from his disability to his weight to getting bullied with Sgt. Dudinskie, the officer in charge of his interview. Dudinskie fires back with details of his chatlog that showed Dustin to be a very disgusting predator that hid behind his disability. [2]He was sentenced to five years in prison for traveling across state lines to meet a minor for sex. He was also sentenced to eight years for possession of child pornography. The sentences ran concurrently but because Dustin wasn't convicted on the CP charge until two years after his first conviction, he actually ended up with a ten year sentence.[3] Dustin was released on lifetime federal sex-offender probation and now helps to run a convenience store in Surgoinsville, Tennessee.Behind the scenesDustin has cerebral palsy. He demonstrated before, during, and after the sting his devious behavior of using his disability to garner sympathy as well as escape trouble. Casey and the lead KBI investigator even said they felt sorry for Dustin when he saw him struggle to enter the house, but kept in mind his reason for showing up at the house was to molest a child.Partway through serving his sentence, he wrote a letter to his convicting judge saying he had learned his lesson and requesting that he immediately be released from serving the remainder of his sentence. If his request was denied, in lieu of release, he requested a walk-in jacuzzi in his cell. Both requests were denied.Dustin was scheduled to be back in court February 2020 due to probation violations, mainly failing his sex offender treatment program, subsequently being kicked out, and polygraph tests asking if he had viewed child pornography since his release. A series of continuances have been given due to Dustin's health, COVID-19 concerns, and scheduling conflicts.[4] Dustin was given yet another continuance September 2021 because his family had paid vacation plans. Recent photos show that Dustin uses a wheelchair. During examination of his counselor, he revealed that Dustin has spent the most time of any offender in the program because he either refuses to own the actions that led him to this point, or makes excuses on why he can't make any positive changes in his life. Dustin also gained the ire from his peers in his classes because they believed his rehabilitation to be a waste of time. Time that could be better invested in their recovery.[5]TriviaDustin apparently "doesn't like lawyers", as he revealed in his police interrogation.Dustin misunderstood Chris when he said he wasn't law enforcement and couldn't arrest him. Dustin thought Chris meant that no arrests were going to be made, which was obviously not the case. Dustin brings this up in his interrogation, saying that he wishes Chris didn't "lie" to him about him not going to be arrested.Dustin has a large affection for his mother (due to the fact that she talks people out of pressing charges for the things he does), requesting that she be put in custody of him during his trial. The judge denied his request.Affectionately nicknamed “D-MAC” by fans of To Catch A Predator..He made a handful of wrestling DVDs for professional wrestler Ricky Morton. He lost all the digital footage when cops seized his computer since it also housed his collection of CP. He also ran Morton's website. In a now infamous article on the site made a couple of months before his arrest, he pleads with the wrestling community to donate to Morton's legal fees stemming from his arrest for non-payment of child support.Ricky Morton references Dustin in an interview about the wrestling DVDs, calling him the "cripple boy". Right after, he talks about seeing Dustin on "the predator show".[6]Despite his disability, he served the most time of all those caught in the Bowling Green sting. This is probably because he committed three different crimes in three different jurisdictions. Lisa Belanger has always loved adventuring in the wilderness, and her free time is dedicated to getting outside to hike, rock climb, camp, and dirt bike. Taking it to the next level, in 2019 she attempted a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail which runs 4,270km across the USA from the border of Mexico to Canada. Partway through she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, a complex autoimmune disease requiring insulin injections and constant blood sugar management. This ended her thru-hike at that time, but she returned in 2022, starting over at the Mexican border and successfully hiking all the way to Canada over 4.5 months. While she still had her trail legs, she went on to complete the Lost Soul 100 Mile Ultra, having never run any sort of marathon before. At the time she expected it to be a once-in-a-lifetime thing, but having discovered how amazing the ultra running community is, she's reconsidering!Lisa works as the Director of Operations at the Rural Development Network, a non-profit organization that supports the sustainability of rural communities across Canada. She also recently joined the Board of Directors of the Great Divide Trail Association, volunteering her energy to help protect and maintain this incredible long-trail that runs more than 1,100km along the continental divide between Alberta and BC.Lisa became an entrepreneur when she launched Flat Out Feasts with her husband Colin in 2022 in an attempt to make backcountry adventures more accessible to those with specific dietary needs. Her freeze dried meals provide more consistent energy for longer, while allowing her to keep her blood sugar stable. But if you stretch the flaps across the opening of your throat while pushing air up through, you can make them vibrate in the breeze and produce all sorts of sounds -- sort of like the mucousy reed of a giant meat clarinet. I'm your host Erik Byrne and on this episode we're gonna take an in depth look at the true story of a killer. A serial killer operating on the fringes of society at the turn of the twentieth century. A killer that dismembered and ate her victims. A killer with a kill count not ten, not twenty, not dozens but hundreds of victims. A killer that was a Bengal tiger. The champawat tiger single handedly killed four hundred and thirty six people in northern India and Nepal in the early 1900s. My main source for this episode was the book No Beast So Fierce by Dane Hucklebridge. It's a good read and if you like the story you're about to hear check out the book in the show notes for a more in depth look. We're gonna start out here with a stat sheet. I want you to see what a tiger is made of. If you have a house cat handy take a look at him right now imagine that but 60 times larger! This is the worlds largest living feline, and second in history overall only to the Smilodon or sabre tooth tiger. They can range from four, five hundred pounds all the way up to seven hundred pounds and extraordinary specimens tipping the scales at over eight hundred pounds. They range anywhere from ten to even thirteen feet long with their tails included. That is a very big kitty. Lets talk equipment. First of all musculature. On our housecat George you can see his clearly defined muscles and he's only 11 pounds or so so when we ramp that up to six to seven hundred pound cat we're talking serious strength. Even without claws a single swipe of a tigers massive paw could knock your head clean f***ing off your body and easily break bones. They have a jaw that can bite down with over a thousand psi which can crack through a water buffalo's head. And wielded with that force are a set of 3 to 4 inch fangs. Big enough to slam into a brain or rip out a spine. On their front paws they have ten claws that are also about four inches long. That musculature isn't just there to knock heads off, it's built for speed and finesse too. Capable of short bursts of forty miles per hour speed and the demonstrated ability to leap thirty feet through the air to pounce. They are fantastic swimmers and comfortable on land and in the water. They are very smart hunters and adaptable when it comes to their prey. They'll cripple larger prey by the legs and drive others towards the water where they are far easier to take down. They're solitary animals generally but the cubs stay with the mother for about 2 years learning all these and other ways to kill. There have even been some recorded incidents of tigers mimicking the sounds of other animals to lure them out. Like predator. The predator comparison becomes more apt when we take into account its spine ripping behavior and spectacular stealth ability. When it wants to be seen and heard though, you'll know. A tiger can roar at a hundred fourteen decibels which is like being next to 25 lawnmowers going at once. They'll eat pretty much anything they want. A tigers diet includes but is presumably not limited tofish, turtles, badger, rabbit, mice, bears, wolves, sandar deer, water buffalo, crocs, pythons, seals, even elephants, rhinos, leopards and of course, the reason we're talking about them today. Humans. We'll get into how the eat a little bit later but suffice to say for now that it isn't pretty.Tigers are basically perfect killers, like sharks in the water they're predatory evolution perfected. But even still they don't usually go after humans. They like bigger meatier game but when certain factors coalesce you have an unmistakable recipe for a man eater. We talked about the tigers' equipment earlier. teeth and claws, jaws and paws. These are all integral parts of it's hunting kit. When there's an injury the tiger has to adapt, maybe it can't crush a buffalo's neck so easily anymore. Maybe it can't keep up with a fleet footed deer quite as well anymore. A national park in india did a fantastic study of tiger attacks on humans in their area from nineteen seventy nine to two thousand six. Some of the conclusions were that sixty six percent of the tiger victims were kind of stooped down with their backs turned. They never see it coming, but perhaps more importantly, I scrooched down human in tall grass looks a heck of a lot more like normal prey than one walking around and making all kinds of noise. Even more incriminating was that most of the tigers that were actually able to be examined displayed injuries to their teeth or paws and in the cases of tigers that actually scooped people right out of their villages. Every single one was impaired like this.  And of all the attacks over all, 90% of them occurred in areas where prey density has fallen and the habitats were degraded. Looking at all this a clear pattern emerges. It's hard to foist a term like motive onto an animal versus a human but lets make the case. These man eaters at the time of their first kill are acting out of desperation. They're hungry, their habitat is being encroached on, and they're unable to get their normal prey. They take a shot at a clumsy primate that's on their turf, and even to an injured tiger, humans are no match. That's when it clicks. We're made of meat. We're readily available. We're weak and we're slow. When a tiger realizes all this after grabbing a farmer by the throat and dragging him into the jungle screaming without so much as a struggle, a very very dangerous animal is born. And of those dangerous animals, there was none so dangerous as the champawat tiger. She was born sometime in 1899 or 1900 in Nepal. We can imagine that she had a relatively normal childhood? Cubhood? What do you call it? I guess it's not important. But at some point she was injured by a hunter or a poacher's bullet. That shot was the catalyst for the better part of five hundred deaths. When a tiger attacks a human usually they don't have a chance. You're just scrooching down to cut some grass or take a piss or something than in less than a second you hear that tremendous roar and you have 40 cumulative inches of claws entering your back before those vicegrip jaws clamp down on your neck and it's over. And that's before even taking into account the sheer force that six hundred pounds of muscle moving at highway speed will do just on impact alone. If by the grace of god someone can survive the split second impact like getting hit by some f***ed up mad max knife car intelligent enough to hit from behind and go for the throat, all the tiger has to do is shake it's big head and tear those claws through you and you're f***.If you don't believe me just do a quick google images of tiger attack autopsy. The hole that one fang can put in a human neck is nightmare fuel. In the book Hucklebridge sources a number of different well documented tiger attacks in all sorts of scenarios. There's tigers that swim out and rip people out of a boat, tear people from trees, literally burst through walls of peoples huts to drag them away screaming like a god damn pitcher of orange flavored, bloodthirsty cool aid man. And a particularly brutal one where two young children watch their father get pounced and dragged away into the jungle, recounting the story having grown up fatherless. Speaking of growing up fatherless I think it's time we looked at the other side of the arena, The hero, so to speak of this story: Edward James Corbett. This dude was a legend. We'll get to know him a little better over the course of the show but let's start with the basics He went by Jim Corbett, which is how I'll mostly be referring to him for the rest of the show. Jim was born the eighth child of sixteen of Christopher William and Mary jane Corbett in Nainital, in northern India, July of 1975. If I'm messing up the pronunciation of any of these places in India and Nepal bear with me. His parents had come over from Britain years before and lived in India for some time. The book goes into a lot of great detail about his family history and the larger scope of British presence in India during that time, but that's kind of beyond the scope of this show for now, so if you're interested check out the book. The short version is that britain was going all over the world to kind of make everywhere like britain. Obviously this model doesn't work for ever and is usually met with some resistance. Violent or otherwise. So the british indian relationships are often tenuous. With all that being said. Growing up as a white kid in the jungle you're gonna take the hand your dealt. Corbett did just that, going to school in the colony and town they were at and at the same time going out and befriending the locals to learn more about the amazing natural world around him. In this unique upbringing he became kind of a missing link between the two cultures where he could rub elbows and play cricket with the rich brits and the next day go out for a hunt with a village elder in the jungle. At six years old his father died of a heart attack so growing up with those connections to local men became even more important to forming the man he would become. His mentor gave him his first weapon and taught him everything he knew about tigers and other wildlife of the jungle. At the time he first heard of the champawat tiger, he was working at a train station likely sometime in 1903. A british friend of his told him of rumors of a single tiger snatching people away in nearby nepal. I'll throw a map in the show notes that gives a pretty good estimation about jim and the tigers movements over those few years. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of great records about the tigress herself in her early days in nepal. Most of the historical records point towards the cat killing two hundred people before being driven out of the country. Bounty hunters were called in, part of the nepalese army, absolutely eveything they had available they threw at her and she evaded or killed and ate all of it. The sources we do have about the tiger leaving nepal are mostly conjecture. But historically tiger hunts were accomplished by a huge amount of noise, guns, elephants and screams driving the tiger into a suitable killzone. The champawat tigress managed to escape all that and finally arrived in india. Now is as good a time as any to talk about the math at work here. An adult tiger needs one hundred twenty five to a hundred thirty five pounds of meat per week to survive. By all accounts the champawat tiger was killing a person a week for eight or nine years. A person in india and nepal is gonna about fit that quota. We can figure one person a week for a year is fifty two people a year, multiplying that by eight years and we get four hundred and sixteen, and by nine years we get four hundred and sixty eight. The math works out well enough with the corroborating sources that the kill count was somewhere close to two hundred in nepal and continued at that pace for for another four, four and half years in the kumaon area of india just west of it's previous territory in nepal.In 1907 Corbett is contacted by another hunter about a tiger that needs to be put down. of  course, it's the champawat. He's surprised that it's still going after he puts together that shwe was the one he heard about back in 1903. When he hears that everything locals or british have thrown at this tiger had failed he agrees to take the job. But with a couple of fun caveats. This bit is straight out of a movie. I'm paraphrasing but he says, I'll take the job but first you need to recall every other hunter or soldier already contracted to go after her, and get rid of the bounty on her head. I'm not doing this for the money, I'm not doing this for the skin, I'm not doing it to be a poacher I'm doing it because it's my duty for the colony. At the time you were a tiger for two main reasons. You were either a british pansy looking for yucks or an indian poacher looking for bucks. So their was the desire for getting a fur pelt from them and what really kicked everything into high gear was bounty hunting. During the british expansion in india tigers were seen as a pretty big problem. Both symbolically as the tiger represented the untamed natural india compared to a civilised british colony and also literally due of course to 700 pound cats eating people and livestock. When turning in a single tiger you could get the equivalent of months and months of pay as a lower class indian it's no wonder why tiger hunting skyrocketed.  Over eighty thousand tigers were killed in 50 years. With both the locals and europeans taking shots at tigers wherever they could, you ended up with a lot of very angry very dangerous wounded cats.  So another thing that's important to consider here is the gun culture in india at the time, I'm not sure that's the right word but lets roll with it. I don't really have time to dig to deep in to the colonial politics of the time, I'm not an expert so if you're interested pick up the book. The short version is that the british show up in india, try to domesticate it and make it more like a proper english colony. The problem with this is people usually don't take kindly to subjugation, revolutions ensue and are subsequently put down, a big one in 1857. After this the brits basically go on a gun grabbing rampage and so functionally nobody has weapons and those that do are generally rusty pieces of s***. Anything beyond the rusty piece of s*** tier is prohibitvely expensive and also illegal.Corbett has just begun thinking about how he's gonna bag the tigress when a man breathlessly runs into the village saying that the tiger has killed another person in pali, 60 kilometers away.  He gathers up the six or seven kumaonis  that he's recruited, packs up his gun and supplies and starts the trek towards pali. The hunt had begun.The group takes off towards pali. And they are hooffing it big time. they carry their gear because keep in mind cars are a long way off at this point. The model T doesn't come out until the next year and rural india wasn't exactly first on the list to get them. So they're hiking at 30 kilometers a day to make it to pali in two days. For us americans that about thirty seven thirty eight miles total and about nineteen miles per day.When they finally arrive they're surprised to find it a ghost town. There is nobody in the square or on the street and they call out basically just to scream if anyone is there. And then the smell kicks in. the whole village smells like p*** and s***. A few of the villagers cautiously emerge from their homes. The whole village has been locked down and everyone has been inside for days. People are literally staying inside their houses s*** their pants with fear. They're too afraid to even go out to dump the human waste or gather more food. So on top of those unsanitary conditions they're also beginning to starve. A few villagers explain that the demon tiger is here and it has been for a few days. At night they cower from it's roars in the jungle. All this makes everything all to real to corbett. If he didn't know it wasn't an ordinary tiger before he sure did now. He asks to see the kill site but nobody in town is willing to go anywhere near that accursed place. Corbett needs to see the tracks and other markings from the tiger to get a better picture of the size of her. Again we're hit with the distrust of whites in india. Even when corbett can speak the language and grew up there nobody is willing to risk going out to the kill site. Corbett takes the message and decides he needs to earn their trust. The first night he goes out alone and sits next to a tree, trying to keep watch all night. Corbett writes down in his own book just how terrified he was sitting out there alone. He says he saw dozens of tigers behind the trees, tricks of the light. His teeth chatter from the terror and the cold and eventually he falls asleep hunkered down under this tree. To him it's a miracle he survives the night. The tiger  was still without a doubt nearby, possibly even watching him that night. To me it's a miracle he survived the night too, especially considering the nighttime capabilities of a Bengal tiger. Their eyes have night vision six times more sensitive than our own, and their radar like ears can pick up the faintest sounds like a breath or even a heartbeat. Couple those with their bigass padded paws that make them nearly silent as they walk, he wouldn't have stood a chance if she was hungry. While the village were impressed with his bravery or stupidity they still refused to take him to the kill site.  He takes off into the bush with a few of his crew for a little while until he finds a few goorahl deer sitting up on a ridge. That's good eatin. He readies his rifle and fires, bam the deer falls down the hill, but the shot scared out two more . BAM BAM he hits both of those at two hundred yards like he's putting together a call of duty montage. All three animals fall and he brings them back to the village. Finally, when given food a villager agrees to take him to the site, and explains what happened. They were all out in the field and the girl climbed up into the tree and got ripped out of it with such force that the skin from her hands still clung to the bark. They followed the trail of dried blood and eventually made it to a clearing. This place looked worse than carries prom night, there was blood everywhere but no tiger, and even more disturbing, No body, at least not intact. Just a few scraps of flesh and bones that would have fit in a restaurant to go box. F***. Looking over the pawprints corbett judges the tiger to be female, around 12 years old. This tracks well with everything we already know about her time in nepal and across kumaon. We get into the feeding habit of the tigers here: So these tigers can basically scoop anything by the neck and just take off. That's how it can snatch people so damn easily. They can drag 500 lb water buffalo around so they can pick up an indian woman like they're playing fetch. The average indian woman today is 5 feet tall and weighs 120 pounds.  tigers scoop their prey and find a nice secluded location to basically gorge themselves for a few days. Once it's in a suitable locale they'll just start chomping and ripping away at the meat starting with the butt. They'll eat for an hour or so, then just lounge till they're hungry again. Is this the right script? Is that my saturday plans or a tiger? They will repeat this cycle until everything edible is consumed. The place is basically gonna look like the set of the thing, just a few shards of bone left and a lotta blood. They have sandpaper-like tounges to strip away flesh, several types of teeth to help tear apart meat and consume everything. A starving tiger can eat a cow in 4 days so estimating the time to eat a person is somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-3 days. When they are done they just leave behind this crime scene and go somewhere else to hunt for the next meal. When they take off like this they can become difficult to track over such a huge territoryTigers in their territory move on a constant patrol while they hunt. After the whole process I just described takes place and the tiger moves to a new location it repeats. Realizing this the village people werent able to track it perse but were able to sort of tell when it was in the area. Mostly because one of them would get carried off screaming. When this occurred, the whole village would lock down until the tiger moved to a new locale.This certainly contributed to the tigresses colossal kill count was that there's a hugely delayed response  when the tiger attacks someone. Nobody really has guns due to some uprisings against british takeover of indian most notably the one in 1857  So they have to send some dude over on foot to a place with british govt, and getting the wheels of government moving in order to even to dispute a goddamn parking ticket is nearly impossible so setting up a bounty and hiring a hunter contractor to go after it will take like a week. By the time the hunter gets over there there's nothing left but splotches of blood and little bits of bone and the tiger is 30 miles away to do it again. If you thought herding cats was hard imagine trying to do it with  govt assistance and the cats are 700 pound killing machines. Back to our story: When they bring home what's left of this girl, they ask around to see where the tiger is now or where it might be headed. Nobody really knows but the consensus is it's going back to champawat village. The tiger operates in a huge swath of land all around kumaon, kumaon itself is about the size of wyoming and the champawat tiger was responsible for 95% of the tiger fatalities in the region during that time.  but the nexus of the deaths and sightings is right in champawat.They pack up and get ready to hike up to champawat. Jim Corbett arrives in champawat on may 9th 1907 with his kumaoni buddies plus one or two extra guys from pali brave enough to try to end the reign of terror. In corbetts memoir he makes an interesting note about the tashlidar, who from what I can understand is some sort of village elder/ caretaker like figure. This isn't a local indian politics podcast. Sue me. He makes a note about how the guy was gonna spend the night at his bungalow and just says screw it and walks home last minute. I've done my fair share of long walks home at night but this is in a time and place where any average dude is afraid to walk the streets without a group of at least four people just in case one of them gets attacked and carried off. This dude just peaces out and walks 4 miles home alone in the dark. He spends the night basically having nightmares of getting ripped apart by a tiger and barely sleeps a wink. After all the research I did on tigers I cant say I blame him. But he's actually going after the most notorious one in history. I'm sitting in a closet just making jokes about it. When corbett wakes up he's chatting with his squad of  six or seven  guys trying to assess where  the tiger might strike next and what their move should be, he's doing the 1907 version of where we dropping boys?” and as if on cue this dude runs down the road screaming that the tiger has grabbed another girl. Victim 436. When he gets to the site of the attack he does a quick interview about how it went down and he's surprised to find that the tiger snatched this girl up in broad daylight, in a field, surrounded by a dozen other people. It was very good at what it did. A little bit more about tiger stealth, A tiger is able to conceal itself in knee high grass, approach almost without sound and jump out with ludicrous speed. They are well camouflaged, you might think orange isn't a great camo color, but look at hunters. They wear bright orange tree camo. Prey animals dont see it. And animals that do, like us would even have trouble picking out the orange from light filtering through the trees. Corbett tells the villagers to stay inside and wait for him to get back. starts tracking after the tiger from the site of the attack and finds a swath of destruction in its wake. There's hair, clothing and blood leading into the treeline. Partway along the course of this blood trail he hears fast footsteps behind him and goes and whirls around thinking he's about to be desert and almost shoots a villagers head off. We have a unique scenario here where we can kind of hear corbetts internal monologue in a way because he recorded his thoughts on the hunt in his books. I've got some juicy bits from maneaters of kumaon in just a minute.Luckily he doesn't unload his weapon on this poor bastard and the guy explains hes here to help because he is one of the only guys in town that actually has a gun. Imagine you're on the trail of this legendary tiger and something comes crashing through the bush behind you without warning. I would have gunned him down accidentally and been thrown in indian prison.  The problem is this dude is an oaf. He's loud and doesn't know much about hunting so he's more of a liability. He makes the guy climb to the top of a tree and just sit there until he gets back. He can't send him back because then the guy would have to go back alone. That's just a little part of the story that's so f***ing funny to meAfter leaving the guy up on top of the tree he finds the tigers feeding zone and hoo boy it's a doozy. From his own words:“Splinters of bone were scattered round the deep pugmarks into which discolored water was slowly seeping , and at the edge of the pool was an object which had puzzled me as i came down the watercourse, and which I now found was part of a human leg. In all the subsequent years I have hunted maneaters I have not seen anything as pitiful as that young comely leg -- bitten off a little below the knee as clean as though severed by the stroke of an axe. Out of which warm blood was trickling.”Jesus. For the record pugmarks are the tiger tracks. While he kneels down to inspect the carnage he hears a growl  in a split second whips around and fires off both barrels of his weapon. This is it. The tiger is f***ing here. In his haste he misses both shots but the gunblast sound alone is enough to give the tiger momentary pause. It dashes off the collision course, drops the body of the girl and lets out a colossal roar. The tiger roars and just takes off with the body in her teeth. And jim just follows right after it even though he's only got one bullet left. But a person isn't gonna keep pace with a tiger under pretty much any circumstance and after a few hours the trail goes cold. And night begins to fall. If you're taking your chances with a single bullet with a murder tiger from hell you're brave, if you're doing it at night you're stupid.He goes back to grab the villager off his tree that he's STILL SITTING on. While the stooge comes down off the tree he looks out at the valley. Jim knows that almost being the tigers next meal and hopelessly trying to keep up with it through the undergrowth is not a winning strategy and would end either with him being ripped apart by the tiger or losing it in the night as it goes off to its next victim which could be dozens of miles away. It has to be here. And it has to be tomorrow. In the movie of this I direct once that fat podcast money comes, this where I put the heist scene where they show everyone laying down the blueprints and also cut to each part of it as it's being planned. I can't remember if that's an oceans 11 thing or usual suspects or what, I guess it's not important.  I'll fix the movie trivia when we do our bank robberies episode. But this is where corbett gets his crew together. All he has to do is convince a bunch of people that are already so f***ing scared they won't even leave their house to take a s*** when the tiger is around, to join him in a hunt, the likes of which they have never done before. Not to mention the fact that they are in an area that has had its fair share of horrors come directly from britain to help out jim corbett the whitey. Easy right?He asks his guide in the town to help rally the troops so to speak, and heads to bed. The next morning he sets up hoping to get a few hundred people to help bring down the beast. This is beowulfs assault on grendels lair, this is going after smaug, this is ahabs white whale, this is f***ing legendary. Annd nobody show up then at ten am his buddy from the village shows up with the oaf from the other day. It's a nice gesture but it's not enough to slay the beast by any stretch. Twenty minutes pass and two or three more show up, then a few more,  five here three more there. And by noon almost 300 people show up. Many of them with illegal guns, the elders in the village hinted that nobody would care about the guns JUST THIS ONCE.So they've put together this literal ragtag army of farmers and craftsman wielding old guns, sticks, makeshift spears, wood axes, basically anything they can pick up. Corbett meets one lunatic with a hammer that had two sons and his wife eaten by this thing. This was a les mis style moment where the people rise to fight against natures tyranny. I want to take a quick second to reiterate that this is a 100% true story. It's unbelievable. The tiger is somewher down in a nearby gorge feeding on that poor four hundred and thirty sixth victim. There's only one way out of the gorge short of climbing the ridges on 3 sides. The team lines up equidistantly all along the top of the ridge. And corbett and his buddy from town hide alone at the mouth of the gorge with his gun ready. All was set up for corbett to give his signal for everyone around the ridge to just start making a f***load of noise from all 3 sides, throw rocks and cause disturbances to flush her out into where corbett was waiting. There was one problem. You guys remember that scen in lord of the rings where the one eyed dude accidentally shoots an orc too early and f***s up the whole seige? That happens, the people on the ridge get antsy and someone blasts off a gun prematurely and everyone else follows suit. The problem is corbett and his buddy aren't in place. He has to run 500 feet to get to his planned position and the tiger comes careening out of the forest like a f***ing bat outta hell. There's no time and theres just a split second of realization likely from the tiger and corbett both that only one of them is getting out of this alive. But he hesitates! His buddy doesn't and takes a shot with his piece of s*** shotgun and misses wide. The panic messes up corbetts shot as well.  It's just enough to throw the tiger off though and she runs BACK into the gorge. They messed up their one chance. … The people up on the ridge however, well out of sight of any of this behind the trees here the gunshot and they all assume corbett shot the tiger. THey shoot off their guns into the air and start cheering. THis second wave of sound is enough to give the operation a second chance. The tigress runs back out from the gorge where corbett is waiting. Corbett sees the tiger fly out of the gorge and raises his rifle and fires off a shot that actually hits her back flank. She twist in a rage and agony and turns to face him and charge. He fires again and hits her in the shoulder. I assume after that he s*** his pants. Jim corbett carries a double barrel rifle. He's got no bullets left. He's got a VERY F****** ANGRY maneating tiger and she isn't down for the count yet. He has one shot insane chance at survival. He has to run to his buddy from the village and get HIS gun. He makes the breathless dash and in doing so the tiger finally sees what all the searing pain she's experiencing is from. Zeroed in on corbett she charges. His partner from the village must have his eyes go wide from shock as it dawns on him what jim is doing. Corbett is gesturing for him to THROW his gun to him while he runs by! He tosses the old shotgun into the air, disarming himself and that gun must have hung in the air for what seemed an eternity in that split second. Corbett catches the shotgun and whirls around with the tiger twenty feet from him ready to leap, moving at forty miles per hour. He raises the shotgun and The champawat tiger is dead at his feet. Upon investigation of the body they could see the cause. The cause of all the mayhem and carnage, of all the literally ripped apart families, all the fear, all of it. The tigress's teeth were wrecked long ago one fang taken clean off and another broken in half. She was unable to hunt her usual prey.  It was some unknowing hunter that had done this to her and set her on this path. Nature isn't evil.In the village people celebrated, they were free from the grip of fear. There's a substantial epilogue to this story though. The champawat tiger may have been the first super maneater in 1900s india but she would be far from the last. THe conditions of habitat destruction, colonial encroachment, industrialization, poaching and all that werent going anywhere anytime soon and many more tigers and leopards claimed many more lives, some estimates put the toll close to a million people over the last five hundred years or so.Jim corbett went on to hunt a few more of these notable maneaters including  a leopard that had at least one hundred and twenty nine confirmed kills. He went on to publish his memoirs and several other books about his time in the indian jungle and those all sold fantastically well. In his later years he dedicated himself to tiger conservation founding a national park to preserve them that now bears his name. In 1907 there was an estimated 100 thousand tigers in the wild and now there's somewhere in the neighborhood of four thousand in the wild. Fur trade in china ( We'll get into china don't worry) and other countries, poaching and tigers losing ninety percent of their habitat presents a bleak picture but not an impossible one. Many governments have put together a pact to try to double tiger populations by 2022. If you want to help out tiger conservation, first, don't kill them. The road to Emmaus was seven miles long — a pretty good distance under normal circumstances, and I imagine a near impossibility with a heart weighed-down with grief. On this particular day, however, two men attempted the journey with exactly that in common — a heart deeply grieved by the death of their friend, their king, Jesus. It would have been easy for these two to have kept the cries of their hearts under lock and key. Keep the hurt, confusion, and despair buried deep down inside them. But they didn't. As they walked, they talked about all that had just happened. They opened the doors of their hearts and let them flow out and find a companion in one another. Partway through the journey, Jesus would draw near to these two companions, open the Scripture to them, wash away the fog of confusion, help them to make sense of things. He'd sit down to table with them, break bread with them, open their eyes to see — it's Jesus! Jesus would leave, and these two travelers would follow suit, sprinting side-by-side in joy the entire seven miles back to tell the others “Jesus is alive!” There are many glories to be found within this narrative from Luke 24. One such glory, I believe, is the display of true Christian friendship. Yes, friendship can be found elsewhere in the Bible, but it is so unique here in that in such a tightly packed space we see along both poles — deep despair, unbridled delight — the beauty and utility of true Christian friendship. Friendship in moments when faith in Jesus is tearing apart at the seams; friendship in moments when Jesus is so real to you that say, “Did not our hearts burn within us!” Friendship is needed – note merely desired — but needed in both spaces. In the deepest of valleys of dejection, friendships make walkable the path set before you. On the highest mountain tops of delight, friendships complete our joy by allowing us to express delight to another. In doubt and despair, friendship are as Ebeneezers — living, breathing visual reminders of the times when we saw more clearly, of the times when our hearts did burn, of the seasons when Christ was sweet — they give us hope that those days will come again. In joy and gladness, friendships make these moments concrete — brother, sister, I will remember this moment, and keep it in remembrance, that I might share it with you in moments you are tempted to forget it. Friendships, my friends, are a God-given means of grace to us. Armies at our side lest we attempt the battle alone. Glad-hearted companions lest we keep the joys to ourselves. Do you have such friendships? Friends to walk alongside the desperate path to Emmaus? Friends to sprint alongside the celebratory path back to Jerusalem? Have you cultivated the richness of such friendships? Have you allowed your friends to see your heart, know your mind, be familiar with your hopes, know the sound of your cries, know you, really know you — that your journey of faith might be trod in the strength and stability offered in fellowship? It's my exhortation to you, today, that you would. That you'd not only seek out such friends but that you'd go deep with such friends that you might one day see one another in glory, and say, “Did not our hearts burn within us as we walked with him on the road of life?” And of course, this exhortation reminds us of our need to confess our sins for we, in our pride, often think ourselves self-sufficient – friends are luxury, not necessity. In our self-exaltation friends are there to admire and applaud our greatness, not witness our weakness. In our selfishness we want friends to serve us in our time of need, but we don't want the mess and effort of reciprocating. We are sinners, we…are…sinners…and we have a Savior — One who calls himself Friend of Sinners — and he invites us to bring our sins, and all our sins, to him now in this time of silence confession.

Bastards' Road is a documentary that follows US Marine Combat Veteran Jonathan Hancock on his walk across the United States visiting his fellow Marines while wrestling with his own demons.  After serving with Second Battalion, Fourth Marines, in the bloody Battle of Ramadi, Jonathan finished out his 8 and a half year Marine Corps career in military intelligence. As a civilian, he began attending the University of Maryland.  During this time, Jonathan began to deteriorate. Drinking all the time, missing class, and wrestling with the demons in his head, Jonathan was at the end of his wits.  After attempting suicide, Jonathan decided that enough was enough, and he decided that he was going to walk cross the country visiting the Marines he'd served with and the families of his fallen brothers.  Partway through the journey, a classmate of his from high school who had gone on to be in filmmaking caught wind of Jonathan's journey. He reached out and offered to help Jonathan document his journey in a movie. The day of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Kansas City Star columnist Bill Tammeus was assigned to write the lead commentary for a special edition of the paper to be published that afternoon. Partway through that task, he learned that his nephew was a passenger on the first plane to smash into the World Trade Center. Now, almost 20 years later, Bill recounts in his new book the multiple traumas his extended family experienced because of that. When Amaris and Stuart Allan first decided to serve with EMM, they didn't expect to spend time in two very different contexts in the course of their three-year term. Partway into their second year in Zanzibar, they were asked to consider a transition to Nairobi, Kenya. Almost 10 months later, the Allans unexpectedly returned from Nairobi to the U.S. a few months early due to the coronavirus pandemic. Amaris shares with us a few of the lessons she learned in those transitions.

We've finally reached a hundred episodes, and this week we'll be talking to Sebastian Wiedenroth about pkgsrc. Though originally a NetBSD project, now it runs pretty much everywhere, and he even runs a conference about it! This episode was brought to you by Headlines Remote DoS in the TCP stack (https://blog.team-cymru.org/2015/07/another-day-another-patch/) A pretty devious bug in the BSD network stack has been making its rounds for a while now, allowing remote attackers to exhaust the resources of a system with nothing more than TCP connections While in the LAST_ACK state, which is one of the final stages of a connection's lifetime, the connection can get stuck and hang there indefinitely This problem has a slightly confusing history that involves different fixes at different points in time from different people Juniper originally discovered the bug and announced a fix (https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=JSA10686) for their proprietary networking gear on June 8th On June 29th, FreeBSD caught wind of it and fixed the bug in their -current branch (https://svnweb.freebsd.org/base/head/sys/netinet/tcp_output.c?view=patch&r1=284941&r2=284940&pathrev=284941), but did not issue a security notice or MFC the fix back to the -stable branches On July 13th, two weeks later, OpenBSD fixed the issue (https://www.marc.info/?l=openbsd-cvs&m=143682919807388&w=2) in their -current branch with a slightly different patch, citing the FreeBSD revision from which the problem was found Immediately afterwards, they merged it back to -stable and issued an errata notice (http://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/patches/5.7/common/010_tcp_persist.patch.sig) for 5.7 and 5.6 On July 21st, three weeks after their original fix, FreeBSD committed yet another slightly different fix (https://svnweb.freebsd.org/base/head/sys/netinet/tcp_output.c?view=patch&r1=285777&r2=285776&pathrev=285777) and issued a security notice (https://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-announce/2015-July/001655.html) for the problem (which didn't include the first fix) After the second fix from FreeBSD, OpenBSD gave them both another look and found their single fix to be sufficient, covering the timer issue in a more general way NetBSD confirmed they were vulnerable too, and applied another completely different fix (http://cvsweb.netbsd.org/bsdweb.cgi/src/sys/netinet/tcp_output.c.diff?r1=1.183&r2=1.184&only_with_tag=MAIN) to -current on July 24th, but haven't released a security notice yet DragonFly is also investigating the issue now to see if they're affected as well *** c2k15 hackathon reports (http://undeadly.org/cgi?action=article&sid=20150721180312&mode=flat) Reports from OpenBSD's latest hackathon (http://www.openbsd.org/hackathons.html), held in Calgary this time, are starting to roll in (there were over 40 devs there, so we might see a lot more of these) The first one, from Ingo Schwarze, talks about some of the mandoc work he did at the event He writes, "Did you ever look at a huge page in man, wanted to jump to the definition of a specific term - say, in ksh, to the definition of the "command" built-in command - and had to step through dozens of false positives with the less '/' and 'n' search keys before you finally found the actual definition?" With mandoc's new internal jump targets, this is a problem of the past now Jasper also sent in a report (http://undeadly.org/cgi?action=article&sid=20150723124332&mode=flat), doing his usual work with Puppet (and specifically "Facter," a tool used by Puppet to gather various bits of system information) Aside from that and various ports-related work, Jasper worked on adding tame support to some userland tools, fixing some Octeon stuff and introduced something that OpenBSD has oddly lacked until now: an "-i" flag for sed (hooray!) Antoine Jacoutot gave a report (http://undeadly.org/cgi?action=article&sid=20150722205349&mode=flat) on what he did at the hackathon as well, including improvements to the rcctl tool (for configuring startup services) It now has an "ls" subcommand with status parsing, allowing you to list running services, stopped services or even ones that failed to start or are supposed to be running (he calls this "the poor man's service monitoring tool") He also reworked some of the rc.d system to allow smoother operation of multiple instances of the same daemon to run (using tor with different config files as an example) His list also included updating ports, updating ports documentation, updating the hotplug daemon and laying out some plans for automatic sysmerge for future upgrades Foundation director Ken Westerback was also there (http://undeadly.org/cgi?action=article&sid=20150722105658&mode=flat), getting some disk-related and laptop work done He cleaned up and committed the 4k sector softraid code that he'd been working on, as well as fixing some trackpad issues Stefan Sperling, OpenBSD's token "wireless guy," had a lot to say (http://undeadly.org/cgi?action=article&sid=20150722182236&mode=flat) about the hackathon and what he did there (and even sent in his write-up before he got home) He taught tcpdump about some new things, including 802.11n metadata beacons (there's a lot more specific detail about this one in the report) Bringing a bag full of USB wireless devices with him, he set out to get the unsupported ones working, as well as fix some driver bugs in the ones that already did work One quote from Stefan's report that a lot of people seem to be talking about: "Partway through the hackathon tedu proposed an old diff of his to make our base ls utility display multi-byte characters. This led to a long discussion about how to expand UTF-8 support in base. The conclusion so far indicates that single-byte locales (such as ISO-8859-1 and KOI-8) will be removed from the base OS after the 5.8 release is cut. This simplifies things because the whole system only has to care about a single character encoding. We'll then have a full release cycle to bring UTF-8 support to more base system utilities such as vi, ksh, and mg. To help with this plan, I started organizing a UTF-8-focused hackathon for some time later this year." Jeremy Evans wrote in (http://undeadly.org/cgi?action=article&sid=20150725180527&mode=flat) to talk about updating lots of ports, moving the ruby ports up to the latest version and also creating perl and ruby wrappers for the new tame subsystem While he's mainly a ports guy, he got to commit fixes to ports, the base system and even the kernel during the hackathon Rafael Zalamena, who got commit access at the event, gives his very first report (http://undeadly.org/cgi?action=article&sid=20150725183439&mode=flat) on his networking-related hackathon activities With Rafael's diffs and help from a couple other developers, OpenBSD now has support for VPLS (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Private_LAN_Service) Jonathan Gray got a lot done (http://undeadly.org/cgi?action=article&sid=20150728184743&mode=flat) in the area of graphics, working on OpenGL and Mesa, updating libdrm and even working with upstream projects to remove some GNU-specific code As he's become somewhat known for, Jonathan was also busy running three things in the background: clang's fuzzer, cppcheck and AFL (looking for any potential crashes to fix) Martin Pieuchot gave an write-up (http://undeadly.org/cgi?action=article&sid=20150724183210&mode=flat) on his experience: "I always though that hackathons were the best place to write code, but what's even more important is that they are the best (well actually only) moment where one can discuss and coordinate projects with other developers IRL. And that's what I did." He laid out some plans for the wireless stack, discussed future plans for PF, made some routing table improvements and did various other bits to the network stack Unfortunately, most of Martin's secret plans seem to have been left intentionally vague, and will start to take form in the next release cycle We're still eagerly awaiting a report from one of OpenBSD's newest developers (https://twitter.com/phessler/status/623291827878137856), Alexandr Nedvedicky (the Oracle guy who's working on SMP PF and some other PF fixes) OpenBSD 5.8's "beta" status was recently reverted, with the message "take that as a hint (https://www.marc.info/?l=openbsd-cvs&m=143766883514831&w=2)," so that may mean more big changes are still to come... *** FreeBSD quarterly status report (https://www.freebsd.org/news/status/report-2015-04-2015-06.html) FreeBSD has published their quarterly status report for the months of April to June, citing it to be the largest one so far It's broken down into a number of sections: team reports, projects, kernel, architectures, userland programs, ports, documentation, Google Summer of Code and miscellaneous others Starting off with the cluster admin, some machines were moved to the datacenter at New York Internet, email services are now more resilient to failure, the svn mirrors (now just "svn.freebsd.org") are now using GeoGNS with official SSL certs and general redundancy was increased In the release engineering space, ARM and ARM64 work continues to improve on the Cavium ThunderX, more focus is being put into cloud platforms and the 10.2-RELEASE cycle is reaching its final stages The core team has been working on phabricator, the fancy review system, and is considering to integrate oauth support soon Work also continues on bhyve, and more operating systems are slowly gaining support (including the much-rumored Windows Server 2012) The report also covers recent developments in the Linux emulation layer, and encourages people using 11-CURRENT to help test out the 64bit support Multipath TCP was also a hot topic, and there's a brief summary of the current status on that patch (it will be available publicly soon) ZFSguru, a project we haven't talked about a lot, also gets some attention in the report - version 0.3 is set to be completed in early August PCIe hotplug support is also mentioned, though it's still in the development stages (basic hot-swap functions are working though) The official binary packages are now built more frequently than before with the help of additional hardware, so AMD64 and i386 users will have fresher ports without the need for compiling Various other small updates on specific areas of ports (KDE, XFCE, X11...) are also included in the report Documentation is a strong focus as always, a number of new documentation committers were added and some of the translations have been improved a lot Many other topics were covered, including foundation updates, conference plans, pkgsrc support in pkgng, ZFS support for UEFI boot and much more *** The OpenSSH bug that wasn't (http://bsdly.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-openssh-bug-that-wasnt.html) There's been a lot of discussion (https://www.marc.info/?t=143766048000005&r=1&w=2) about a supposed flaw (https://kingcope.wordpress.com/2015/07/16/openssh-keyboard-interactive-authentication-brute-force-vulnerability-maxauthtries-bypass/) in OpenSSH, allowing attackers to substantially amplify the number of password attempts they can try per session (without leaving any abnormal log traces, even) There's no actual exploit to speak of;
