We are joined today with Eyad Mubaied, Founder and CEO of Cultivate Culture LLC, and author of the Culture Driven Organization: How to Create Your Desired Organizational Culture and Sustain It. Eyad spent over 20 years practicing as a CPA at KPMG and L3Harris then found himself at a crossroads at the end of 2023 and has an unconventional story about changing careers that we can hear from him directly. Here's a glimpse of our conversation: Eyad, welcome to the show. 3:56 Organizational culture was something I've always loved. 4:57 If you had asked me six or nine months ago if I would be doing this, I would have said you were absolutely nuts. But one thing led to another, and I found doors closing and others opening, and I just went through them. 5:25 The technical term that I use or definition that I use in the book is the manifestation of shared beliefs reflected in common behaviors. 11:36 In any organization, just like countries, there would be multiple cultural traits. The idea of the book is how do you now bridge the two? How do you take a good leader? And then take them through the process of actually instilling or integrating their philosophies into a process and then instilling it into people. 14:20 You could be a good, genuinely good leader from a people perspective, but maybe not the best leader when it comes to continuous improvement or innovation. 14:34 The two or three biggest traits for a good culture have to include humility as one of them. 33:12 And at the end of the day, your organization's heart, its people. A surprising pick from Eyad is this week's read and review. Sittenfeld's Rodham, an alternate history what-if about Hilary Clinton, spurs discussion of the ethics of Real Person Fiction, what it means to be a "book club book", and our reaction to the first couple of the US during our formative years doing the nasty repeatedly and explicitly on the page. Fun stuff! For this series we will review and discuss Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders Oct 21 - Nov 4, Rodham by Curtis Sittenfeld Nov 11 - Dec 2, and Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro Dec 9 - Dec 23. THE LINE will ultimately house 9 million people, will be 200-meters wide (656 feet), and is designed to sit 500 meters (1,640 feet) above sea level. EYAD AWWADAWNAN AND HELEN BENEDICT – MAP OF HOPE AND SORROW... with TRE´s Giles Brown
In this episode, we wonder who the heck Anthony Marra thinks he is, an American (!) writing about Russians (!!) in The Tsar of Love and Techno (!!!). Eyad asks if this is an issue. We then talk about possible good results from such transcultural writing and whether all writers are afforded such a luxury equally. Finally, we transcend to the stars alongside Kolya (spoiler?) to discuss a critic's notion of the cosmonomad transcultural writer. Enjoy! For this series, we will read and discuss three novels-in-stories: Jennifer Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad Mar 25 - Apr 8, Ali Smith's There But For The Apr 15- 29, and Anthony Marra's The Tsar of Love and Techno May 6 - 20. We're back today for a short but important update: The German Federal Court rejected Eyad A.'s appeal arguments following his conviction in February 2021. In this bonus episode, Fritz summarizes the appeals court's decision and relates it to the wider significance of the Al-Khatib Trial. What does the decision mean for Eyad A. himself, and the time he will still have to spend in prison? And what does it mean for the overall struggle for justice and accountability for Syria, especially in these times of the so-called ‘normalization' of the Assad regime? Hey aging punk rockers, We're wrapping up our deep dive into Jennifer Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad, focusing a bit more on the structure this time. Eyad wants to explore the story cycle structure and how that works in tandem with the theme of time, the titular goon squad beating and thieving from us all. This week we wrap up our Contemporary Utopian Fiction series by discussing all the ways they are impossible. Impossible to take seriously. Impossible fits for the postmodern world. Impossible to dramatize in fiction. In this wide-ranging conversation we touch on Asimov, Thomas More, Paradise Lost, Camelot, and Eyad even spoils The Good Place for you (be forewarned!). For this series we read and discussed Toni Morrison's Paradise Jan 14-28, Mike Resnick's Kirinyaga Feb 4-18, and Ursula Le Guin's The Dispossessed Feb 25 - Mar 11. Last week we discussed the merits of the criticisms lobbed at Tartt's The Goldfinch, the chief of which was that this was not real Literature. This week we argue the opposite: James and Eyad offer two ways of reading the book and we cap off our discussion with Donna Tartt's views about how religion can influence fiction. This is the second book of our Bad Adaptation series where we read good books turned into bad movies. You can find Ballard's High-Rise, the first book of our series in our archives. Standing in solidarity. African American lawmakers and Black Lives Matter activists express their support for Palestinian rights, as they continue their fight for racial justice in the US —one year since the murder of George Floyd. The BLM movement resonated across the world, with millions of people marching in solidarity. But it struck a particular cord with Palestinians living under a brutal Israeli occupation for decades. George Floyd's image was painted on the Israeli annexation wall built in and around the occupied West Bank. A few days after Floyd's cold-blooded murder last May, a Palestinian man, Eyad al-Hallaq, was shot dead by Israeli police. Like Floyd, he was unarmed —he was al-so autistic and on his way to a special needs school in East Jerusalem. Protestors in Palestine held up posters with his image next to George Floyd's with the slogan “From the USA to Pales-tine… Racism is a crime.” Today, many BLM activists have come out in support of Palestinians living under Israeli occupation using hashtags like #FreePalestine and #SaveSheikhJarrah.
In a landmark case, a court in Germany has convicted a former Syrian intelligence officer for human rights abuses committed against opponents of President Assad. Also in the programme: Ghana has become the first country to receive a coronavirus vaccine shipment from Covax, the global initiative to help poorer countries tackle the pandemic. And will the Olympics be held in Tokyo this year ? (Photo: The trial of alleged Syrian intelligence officer Eyad al-Gharib began in April 2020. Credit: AFP)

The eyewitness, his school counselor Warda Abu Hadid, told local media she shouted to the Israeli officers, "he's disabled," as the wounded Hallaq shouted, "I'm with her." Host Diana Buttu sits down with the family of Eyad Hallaq and learns about who he was, how he lived, and ultimately how he was killed.

In the wake of the WWE’s efforts to push him forward as the face of the company, inevitably earning the disrespect of millions of fans who appreciate and regard professional wrestling as a legitimate sport and resulting in ongoing backlash towards the individual, it’s irresponsible to ignore the positive impact that John Cena has had on American society in the early 21st century. More than just the spokesman for a behemoth in the sports entertainment industry, Cena has grown into a cultural phenomenon, taking on a much larger role in the cultural zeitgeist than World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) could have likely anticipated. Cena’s efforts both inside and outside of the wrestling ring have proven time and again that not only is he an entertainer and lauded showman, but a role model to generations young and old. He’s still kind of a tool though.Find us online at blindtagcast.comFollow us on Twitter @blindtagcastLike us on Facebook at facebook.com/blindtagcast/Send your questions or comments to blindtagcast@gmail.comPlease rate, review, and subscribe!!Clips discussed this week:John Cena aims to put down The Beast at WrestleMania: https://youtu.be/MvB_h6pertIJohn Cena vs. The Miz - Loser Enters the Elimination Chamber First: https://youtu.be/xcuVh80dPqoJohn Cena shares a special moment with Make-A-Wish kid Eyad: https://youtu.be/OLGrpAAh1v8John Cena reveals news of Osama bin Laden at Extreme Rules 2011: https://youtu.be/6maL6gq6qMERonda Rousey will sign her Raw contract at WWE Elimination Chamber - Seth Rollins interrupts: https://youtu.be/imGvkImuPvESecond Chance Fatal 5-Way Match ends in controversy: https://youtu.be/iDln9258b3wBraun Strowman bashes Elias with a bass: https://youtu.be/f-xe1qxhcUILuke Gallows & Karl Anderson vs. The Revival: https://youtu.be/1cRQ3a-SunQBobby Roode issues a United States Open Challenge: https://youtu.be/YFQGGqmNFu0Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn attack Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin: https://youtu.be/IR6o8bDOMV8Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan address attack by Owens & Zayn: https://youtu.be/xeXbyqe04ZgBaron Corbin vs. Kevin Owens: https://youtu.be/xOgu5eu_Se0Dolph Ziggler explains his recent actions: https://youtu.be/FOpdxTbhJngDolph Ziggler vs. Sami Zayn: https://youtu.be/4zAZ4j7mQvU
