Most chronic diseases– if not all– stem from mitochondrial dysfunction in our cells.  So how can we address this metabolic crisis to prevent disease?  Metabolic diseases emerge when mitochondrial energy capacity declines past 50%, which is the threshold for insufficient energy availability. Without enough energy, the body loses its ability to maintain its normal and healthy state.  But it's hard to understand exactly what goes on at this cellular level– and what we can do to change it.  That's why I invited Dr. Molly Maloof on the show today to discuss how women can optimize their mitochondrial health with the use of biohacking tools, nutrition, and a deep connection to change their health outcomes and health span. Because at the end of the day, the goal is to live as young as possible for as long as possible.  In this podcast, we dive deep into how blood sugar monitoring can be a powerful biohacking tool that provides real-time insight into your metabolic health. We also learn that prioritizing relationships is key to vitality and longevity. We'll talk about this… and SO much more as Dr. Molly helps us uncover the secrets to supercharging our connections and our energy. She'll educate us on the factors that contribute to the women's health crisis, and all we can do for our bodies to help overcome this.  Plus, Dr. Molly opens up immensely about her journey and struggles through her own health battles and finding her path as a doctor. She's incredibly knowledgeable in her field, and recently published a book called The Spark Factor, which dives more into optimizing mitochondrial health to become our best selves.  If you want to develop personal growth, overcome fears, and discover the power of love and connection, this podcast is for you.  This episode empowers women to take control of their health, and I can't wait for you to join in.  So listen now!  DR. Today on The Girlfriend Doctor, we discuss how oxytocin is the key to unlocking longevity with Dr. Molly Maloof. Her book The Spark Factor is a riveting display of the effect that love and community have on your body. Dr. Maloof deconstructs how loneliness and stress affect your health and deplete your lifespan.  Loneliness is a primitive signal just like hunger and thirst. You have a survival instinct to pursue a safe and loving community where your body can feel safe. Perceived loneliness is as destructive as objective social isolation. Your body becomes dysregulated by increased cortisol from the stress that isolation puts on your body which is why love and oxytocin are vital to your overall health. Even with a healthy diet and exercise you need human connection for your body to properly function.  To fully understand how external stress affects your body, Dr. Maloof teaches you the importance of tracking your cycle because your period is a vital sign. If your period becomes irregular, it is a sign that you need to slow down and be kind to your mind and body. In this episode, Dr. Maloof shares her biohacking protocol for reframing stress from a destructive force to a transformational tool.   KEY TAKEAWAYS [2:00] Ensuring longevity by optimizing your organ reserve while your young  [3:45] How a stressful environment can deplete energy and cause hormonal imbalance [6:00] Your period is a vital sign and a window into your overall health  [10:30] Knowing the difference between good stress and bad stress  [12:00] Cognitive reappraisal and becoming your own performance coach  [16:25] Sitting in the satisfaction of what you have achieved and celebrating yourself [18:30] Reframing your mindset to act with joy to improve your attitude and cortisol levels [20:00] How love and oxytocin give life meaning and promote vitality and longevity [23:00] How isolation stress from a lack of community causes phycological diseases  [26:30] The role of mitochondrial dysfunction in inflammation  [29:00] The physiology of isolation and the challenge of cortisol testing [35:00] Hypertonic muscles and how you can train your body to relax  [39:30] The effect community has on your oxytocin levels  [41:00] What is the spark factor    MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE Drmolly.co The Spark Factor Instagram   MEMORABLE QUOTE “I really look at the period as a window into our health as women and a lot of women just don't pay attention to it and they suffer unnecessarily without really realizing that there is a lot you can do to fix your periods but the first thing you've got to focus on is your stress levels.” [6:10] -Dr.Maloof   To learn more about me and to stay connected, visit the links below: Website: The Girlfriend Doctor Instagram: The Girlfriend Doctor

Not just metaphorically but in a measurable reduction in the energy output from their cells. In response, Dr. Molly developed a science-backed program focused on mitochondrial health, used successfully by her patients, which offered lifestyle changes that target the unique biology of women and provide immediate and long-term benefits--now available in her book The Spark Factor. “The idea is steady gradual improvement, not perfection. Dr. Molly Maloof, author of The Spark Factor, believes in relationships and connections so much she's created a lecture for Stanford University called Live Better Longer. She touches on the value of social connection and its impact on long-term health and disease. Molly talks with Lisa in this episode and runs down the power of love, what intense romantic love feels like, and an entire masterclass on sexual desire and arousal. The fact that Molly ranks love in the same category of needs as thirst and hunger says a lot. In addition to unpacking the power of love, Molly also covers the power a loss of love has on your physical and mental health. So much of her explanation fills the voids we have in understanding why a bad break can make us feel crazy and do things out of character. We are thrilled to have Dr. Molly Maloof back on the podcast to share how we can all get our spark back! We dive into the biggest drivers of disease, the role of mitochondrial dysfunction, her personal approach to biohacking, how we can boost our energy levels, as well as the importance of love and social connection for overall health. As a physician and Stanford lecturer, Dr. Molly Maloof has spent her career providing personalized medicine services to high-performing technology executives, billionaire investors, Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, and Academy Award winning actors. What she noticed is that women, specifically, were feeling the spark that once energized their lives beginning to dim. The goal is to help get your spark back, so you can spend the rest of your life empowered, alive, mobile, and resilient,” she writes.SHOW NOTES:0:51 Welcome to the show!3:37 Dr. Molly Malloof's bio4:25 Welcome, Molly!5:06 The biggest drivers of disease5:49 Her approach to biohacking7:53 What is HEALTH?8:43 Mitochondrial Health & Dysfunction10:15 How can we increase energy levels?12:51 Importance of connectivity16:25 Course-correcting with biohacking17:55 The biggest mistake she sees20:45 Renee's experience with HPA dysfunction22:13 *Nootopia ad*24:32 Her thoughts on Uric Acid27:07 Getting away from “Diet Dogma”28:59 How to listen to our body33:42 Leaning on friends to balance social time vs isolation34:13 Lauren's story about not listening!35:25 Honesty as a leading principle36:52 Biohacking Mental Health43:15 Working on our relationships43:51 *Silverbiotics Ad*47:01 The role of love & spirituality in health50:11 Where to start with nutrition52:20 Why you're not losing weight58:11 Kristin Neff's Self-Compassion questionnaire1:02:01 Her final piece of advice1:02:28 Thanks for tuning in!RESOURCES:Website: www.drmolly.coIG: drmolly.coBook: The Spark FactorOnline Course: Your Healthspan JourneyEpisode #103: Sexual Trauma, Psychedelics & ConsciousnessNootopia.com - discount code: biohackerbabes10Silverbiotics.com - discount code: BIOHACKERBABESSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/biohacker-babes-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Biohacking is a term that is becoming more and more popular as people become increasingly interested in optimizing their health and performance.  While the term biohacking can mean different things to different people, at its core, it is about using science and technology to hack your biology in order to improve your health and performance. One of the pioneers in the field of bio-hacking is Dr. Molly Maloof. Dr. Maloof is a physician who has written a book called The Spark Factor, which provides a framework for using scientific interventions to improve your physiology. While biohacking is still a relatively new field, it has already begun to gain traction in the mainstream medical community.  Dr. Maloof was recently featured in an article in the England Journal of Medicine where she discussed the potential of bio-hacking to extend life expectancy by up to 20 years. What are the benefits of biohacking? There are many benefits to biohacking, but one of the most important is that it can help you prevent disease by monitoring your body's response to stressors, you can identify areas of improvement and make changes that will help you stay healthy.  Bio-hacking is also personal – what works for one person may not work for another. This is why it's important to find out what works for you and track your progress with data.  By doing this, you can fine-tune your approach and maximize your results. The importance of gut health The human gut is home to trillions of microbes, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses. These microbes play a crucial role in our health, affecting everything from our immune system to our mood. Unfortunately, many of us are not giving our gut the attention it deserves. We live in a world full of processed foods, antibiotics, and stress – all of which can disrupt the delicate balance of gut microbes. This can lead to problems like inflammation, digestive issues, and even mental health problems. It's important to take care of your gut if you want to stay healthy. Eating a nutritious diet, reducing stress, and getting enough sleep are all important factors in maintaining a healthy gut.  You may also want to consider supplements like probiotics and digestive enzymes to help keep your gut microbes happy and healthy. The Difference between health and performance According to Dr Molly:  "There's always been a debate between health and performance. Some people are more concerned with being healthy, while others are more concerned with peak performance. But what's the difference between the two? And why does it matter?" "Health is often defined as the ability to adapt and self-manage in the face of adversity. This means that, even if you're not feeling your best, you're still able to function relatively normally. Performance, on the other hand, is about how well you can do something. This could be anything from running a marathon to lifting weights to playing a musical instrument." "So why does it matter which one you focus on? Well, it depends on your goals. If you're an elite athlete, then performance is probably your main concern. But if you're just trying to live a long and healthy life, then health should be your priority." "That said, there is a balance between health and performance. You don't want to sacrifice" In this podcast, you will learn about: Ways you can bio-hack your body Factors that contribute to a person's lifespan The key elements that a person needs to look at in order to optimize their health Hacks for improving your health How can biofeedback be used to improve health The mitochondrial theory of aging Difference between training at thirty and fifty And so much more.
