What if insomnia isn't the problem—but a signal that something deeper needs your attention?Sleep scientist, functional medicine practitioner, entrepreneur, and self-proclaimed “sleep geek” Dr. Tara Youngblood has spent thousands of hours studying sleep. But after the devastating loss of her six-month-old son, Benjamin, grief, depression, and anxiety made the science deeply personal and pushed her to understand why so many of us struggle to rest.In this episode of Giving Pain Purpose, Tara and Lyndsay explore the complicated relationship between sleep, chronic pain, trauma, anxiety, and the nervous system. They get into the “busy brain” that refuses to shut off, how our sleep environment and nighttime habits can work against us, the role of temperature and deep sleep, prescription sleep aids, and why there's no one-size-fits-all recipe for better rest. For Lyndsay, who has lived with insomnia since childhood and now navigates CRPS and chronic pain, the question becomes deeply personal: how can a body heal when it never gets the chance to truly rest? This isn't another list of sleep hacks. It's a conversation about understanding your body, challenging the stories you've built around sleep, and believing that better rest might actually be possible.Episode Highlights:(00:00) Introduction to the episode and guest Dr. Tara Youngblood(03:06) Dr. Youngblood's background and expertise in sleep science(06:27) Effects of trauma, anxiety, and personality on sleep(07:29) The concept of sleep buckets and environment optimization(09:23) Electromagnetic fields and their impact on sleep quality(11:10) The importance of sleep space and environment(16:19) The role of temperature and light in sleep regulation(21:23) The different stages of sleep and their functions(22:33) Sleep and its connection to autoimmune disease and mental health(24:18) The impact of pain, stress, and inflammation on sleep(29:36) The risks of prescription sleep aids and addiction(36:30) The importance of sleep advocacy and systemic issues(37:45) Innovations in sleep technology and Geli Sleep mattress(47:24) Closing remarks and how to connect with Dr. YoungbloodFind Dr. Tara Youngblood Online Here:Website: www.gelisleep.comInstagram: @dr_youngbloodFacebook: Dr. YoungbloodLinkedIn: Tara YoungbloodBook: The Sleep Recipe That Works: Reprogram Your SleepFind Giving Pain Purpose Online Here:Website: givingpainpurpose.comInstagram: @givingpainpurposeFacebook: The Giving Pain Purpose PodcastLinkedIn: Lyndsay SopranoTikTok: @givingpainpurposeYouTube: @givingpainpurposeShop: thegivingpainpurposeshop.comSubscribe on YouTube | Merch Shop is OPEN!! | COMING SOON: The Pain Hub - A Women's Healing Community. Kyle Gregorash of Madison, Wisconsin's Young Blood didn't initially set out to build a brewery around fruit beer, but over the past six years he's worked tirelessly to perfect it and solve that intractable brewing problem—how can you make something that's sweet and crowd-pleasing but that finishes with a snap and encourages the next sip? And how do you do that when brewers' favorite tool—hop bitterness—is off the table? Through years of experimentation and practice, Gregorash has dialed in fruit beers and those beers have fueled the brewery's growth to the point where they now make up 60% of the brewery's production. In this episode, he outlines some of the ways he makes sweet and fruity beers that feel indulgent but that encourage a second pint. Along the way, he touches on: coming at quick sour beer from a mixed culture sour background using Sourvisiae yeast for quick soured fruit beer scaling pH in inverse to ABV top noting real purée and juice concentrate with extracts and natural flavors for full spectrum impact varying the fruit strategy in beer-based and gluten-free fruited sours blending phosphoric, lactic, citric, and malic acids for ideal expression in fruit beers understanding the impact levels of various fruits spices that make fruit flavors pop And more. This episode is brought to you by: G&D Chillers A quick word for the brewers out there staring down a broken chiller. You know the pain—warm fermentors, stressed yeast, and that sinking feeling when the repair quote lands in your inbox. With refrigerant regulations changing and the cost of obsolete refrigerants skyrocketing, sometimes the fix costs more than the unit is worth. G&D Chillers is there to help, whether you're a small brew pub or large full-scale production brewery. Don't throw good money at bad equipment. Invest in a solution that grows with your brewery—and keeps your tanks cold when it counts. Big thanks to G&D Chillers for supporting this podcast since 2019. Berkeley Yeast At the World Beer Cup this year: Gold for West Coast IPA; Gold for Session IPA; Bronze, Silver, and Gold for New Zealand IPA; Bronze, Silver, and Gold for Classic IPA. All these beers were fermented with one yeast: FRESH™ Chico, Berkeley's low-diacetyl ale yeast. There's something you need to know: Diacetyl isn't just a pass or a fail. Yes, at high levels, it's tragically bad. But even at low levels, it masks the good flavors. So if you want hop notes to pop, you need diacetyl to be ultra-low. These brewers trust Berkeley Yeast for an ultra-clean fermentation because on the finals table, every little detail matters. And now FRESH™ Chico is available in dried bricks for as low as $88 at berkeleyyeast.com. PakTech This episode is sponsored by PakTech—delivering craft-beer multipacking you can trust. Why Only 12% of Marriages Are Actually Thriving

This week's Alliance Q&A is one I think a lot of you will relate to, even if you've never said it out loud. A member named Eric brought a question on behalf of a close friend who's in a genuinely rough season with his marriage, arguments about a job, about help around the house, about who's doing enough for the kids. Rather than treat it as a surface-level scheduling problem, we spent this entire episode digging into what's actually happening underneath, because I've coached enough men to know the surface complaint is almost never the real issue. We get into the real needs driving most marital conflict, why a woman needs to feel seen, heard, and safe, and why a man needs respect, appreciation, and physical affection, and what happens when both partners stop meeting those needs and start reacting to each other instead. I introduce the concept of the emotional bank account, a term I credit to researcher John Gottman, and share a personal example of learning the hard way that not all acts of service are created equal. We also talk through "nice guy syndrome" and its unattractive cousin, people-pleasing, and I introduce a book that's helped me completely reframe how I show up for Jessica: G.S. Youngblood's three-part framework of responding instead of reacting, leading with structure, and always providing safety.   Timeline Summary [1:02] Introducing today's Alliance Q&A and the friend's marriage situation Eric is bringing forward [2:24] The staggering statistic: only about 12% of married couples have a genuinely thriving marriage [3:16] Eric lays out the surface-level arguments: the job, help around the house, time with the kids [6:19] Establishing the marriage timeline and when things started to unravel [8:16] Asking whether the job is really the issue, or just where the resentment gets pointed [8:38] Larry announces the first-ever Dad Edge Day with the Arizona Cardinals, November 15th [10:40] The real needs at play: seen, heard, and safe for her; respected, appreciated, and affection for him [12:14] Whether he's actually meeting those needs, and the common trap of guessing instead of asking [13:58] The reactive cycle: unmet needs on one side triggering unattractive behavior on the other [15:09] Introducing the five love languages and why they aren't one-size-fits-all [15:51] Introducing the emotional bank account and why not all acts of service move the needle [16:09] Larry's own car wash story, and the moment he learned what actually mattered to his wife [18:49] The question worth asking your spouse: what exactly is happening when you feel most loved [21:41] Naming "nice guy syndrome" and the pattern of doing things with a hidden expectation attached [23:22] Confirming he's a people pleaser, and why that trait is deeply unattractive to a woman [23:48] Introducing G.S. Youngblood's book and its three-part framework for masculine leadership [24:07] The first principle: respond, don't react [24:26] The second principle: lead with structure instead of asking open-ended questions [25:54] The third principle: always provide safety through calm, grounded tonality [26:20] Wrapping up and reflecting on how these ideas apply directly to Eric's friend [27:33] Reminders: Roommates to Soulmates starting September 16th, and the Business Boardroom Brotherhood preview   Five Key Takeaways Surface-level arguments, about a job, about chores, are rarely the real issue. Almost always, there's an unmet need underneath that both partners are struggling to name directly. A woman's core needs tend to center on feeling seen, heard, and safe. A man's core needs tend to center on respect, appreciation, and physical affection. When either side stops meeting those needs, both partners start reacting instead of connecting. Not all acts of service are created equal. The emotional bank account concept means some gestures barely register while others, often smaller and more specific, become huge needle-movers. Ask your spouse directly what actually makes them feel loved. "Nice guy syndrome" and people-pleasing are deeply unattractive traits, not because kindness is bad, but because doing things with a hidden expectation attached (do this, then maybe she'll be nice to me) isn't genuine generosity. A grounded, masculine approach to leadership in a relationship comes down to three things: responding instead of reacting, leading with structure instead of vague open-ended questions, and consistently providing emotional safety through your tone and presence.   Links & Resources The Masculine in Relationship: A Blueprint for Inspiring the Trust, Lust, and Devotion of a Strong Woman by G.S. Eric's friend, like so many of us at some point, has been doing things with the hope that they'll move the needle, without ever finding out what actually would. Go ask your wife directly what she was doing, and what you were doing, the last time she felt most loved and connected to you, and then go do more of that. Go out and live legendary.

Some players bring skill. Some bring athleticism. Some bring energy.Sydney Youngblood brings all three. On this episode of SportsLifeTalk's You Got Next, Savage Season heads to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to introduce one of the rising guards in the Class of 2029.The 5-foot-9 combo guard from Catholic High School is already earning national recognition as a five-star prospect and one of the young names to know in girls basketball. But rankings only tell part of her story.Sydney's journey began by watching her two older brothers, Joseph and Nate, play basketball. Seeing them compete inspired her to pick up the game herself, and every missed shot made her want to work even harder.Today, Sydney describes her game as energetic, confident, and built around leadership on both ends of the floor. She can attack downhill, create for herself, get to the rim, find teammates, and make plays with the size and strength of a big guard. But don't overlook the defensive side of her game.Sydney takes pride in defense because she understands one simple truth:Defense leads to offense. That two-way mentality has helped her become one of the country's promising young guards while competing with Boo Williams on the Nike EYBL circuit. She explains why her family chose Boo Williams, what the organization's culture means to her, and how playing against elite competition continues preparing her for the next level.Sydney already has international experience, too.During the Moment of Truth, she reveals that she represented the United States while playing basketball in Serbia—an opportunity that allowed her to compete beyond the borders of the U.S.Now she's focused on adding even more weapons to her game.Sydney is working on her shooting, shot creation, and finishing over taller defenders. For a guard who already loves attacking the basket, improving those areas could make her even more difficult to stop. When Chat SLT gives her three words to describe her game—explosive, fearless, and dynamic—Sydney chooses fearless as the most important. That tells you everything about her approach.Sydney also shares the meaning behind wearing jersey No. 2. She chose the number in honor of Gianna “Gigi” Bryant, who inspired her as a young basketball player.Recruiting will become a major part of Sydney's journey, but she already knows what she wants in a college program.Family.She wants coaches who push their players, teammates who genuinely care about one another, and a program that values relationships beyond simply winning games.Away from basketball, Sydney enjoys drawing, watching movies and anime, FaceTiming her friends, making slime, and catching up on sleep whenever she gets the chance.

***The Youtube version of this podcast is recommended due to the visual nature of the recording.***I think one of the greatest and sacred things that you can experience is the firing of Pueblo pottery and I was very fortunate to be able to witness a firing right before the 2026 Santa Fe Indian Market. It was a very famous family of pottery makers too. The family includes Christopher Youngblood, Joseph Youngblood, and Sergio Lugo (who ends up winning Best of Show just a few days after we filmed this firing) and they are all brothers. We also got to speak to the amazing Jennifer Tafoya, (who's married to Chris Youngblood) who won Best of Show three years ago. In fact, Chris's mother, Nancy Youngblood, also won Best of Show in the past (though we didn't get to see her this time around) which makes this one of, if not the most decorated family of potters in the history of Indian Market. It's very obviously a great line of pottery makers, and they all stand on their own. They're all terrific artisans with their own specialties and it's so interesting to watch what's really involved in doing a firing. First of all, it's a dangerous thing to do the way with the constant smoke and flames. It can take decades to really get to the point where you can be a master at firing. It's a truly sacred event. You'll see it. I mean, they literally make blessings to the pottery that they are firing. This is the kind of thing I love to do. It's important to me. It feels important as I'm asking them questions and documenting the process. So if you want to watch experts of their craft do what they do best, watch the Youngblood/Lugo/Tafoya family fire two very important vessels in this special presentation of a firing at their home.

It's never been easier to get 2000 AD: The Galaxy's Greatest Comic in your grubby, American mitts. Stop what you're doing. Grab your phone. Call your shop. Get your Progs and Megazines in your pullbox. If you need any more convincing than that, then Drokk, do we have an episode for you today. As San Diego Comic-Con International begins its finale, we chat with 2000 AD Thrill-Cast hosts Michael Molcher and Chloe Maveal. We discuss 2000 AD's relationship with America, how it shaped the entire modern comics industry, and which books you need to jam into your eyeballs immediately. 2000 AD has already had a brilliant San Diego Comic-Con with multiple panels (one hosted by us) discussing our dystopian present, teasing the upcoming Rogue Trooper movie directed by Duncan Jones, and slapping some of the prettiest produced comics in the hands of new readers who stumbled into their booth. I'm not sure we can make Judge Dredd fiction again, but 2000 AD is doing its damnedest to stimulate conversation while providing some of the wildest entertainment this medium has to offer. SDCC Day Three: Kelly Sue DeConnick and Matt Fraction on FML

Something magical is happening between the first and second arcs of FML, the Dark Horse Comics series. Writer Kelly Sue DeConnick is passing scripting duties to her husband, Matt Fraction. Since the book began as a melodramatic amplification of her family experience, it seems natural, but we don't think such a regime change has ever happened before in comics. David López will remain on art, showcasing some of the most extraordinary comics skills we've ever encountered and pushing the medium to its very heights. However, with this shift in perspective, FML becomes a comic every reader should pull (if they weren't already, cuz those first eight issues exemplify the power of comic books). As San Diego Comic-Con International rages into its third day (Saturday), we chat with Kelly Sue DeConnick and Matt Fraction about FML. We discuss their unique working habits, how they play off each other, and how they don't. This all has something to do with physics and jazz, but we won't tell you how - you'll have to listen. This is our second FML related episode. Make sure you listen to Kelly Sue DeConnick's first appearance on the podcast, as that establishes how her family informs the comic. Today's episode is one we could not have predicted when we had that first one, but we're so excited at the direction FML has taken. FML issues 1 - 8 are out now from Dark Horse Comics. They're written by Kelly Sue DeConnick, illustrated by David López, colored by Cris Peter, lettered by Clayton Cowles, and designed by Laurenn McCubbin. SDCC 2026 Day Two: Ben Wickey on More Weight

Cartoonist and animator Ben Wickey spent more than a decade toiling away on More Weight. The original graphic novel is an astonishing achievement, recounting the Salem witch trials through extensive research and dusting off History's cobwebs. Wickey re-contextualizes the events and the people, establishing how the horror stretches across time, touching upon literary giants like Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, as well as himself and every one of his readers. We're publishing this podcast on the eve of the Eisner Awards, held at San Diego Comic-Con International. More Weight finds itself nominated for Best Graphic Novel Album - New. Wickey stands amongst some stiff competition, but as you heard in our Stampies: Best Comics of 2025 episode, we think it's not only worthy of that nomination, but we believe it to be one of the best comics of the twenty-first century. More Weight is not a textbook. It's a riveting, horrorifying, and beautifully human drama. It's staggering to witness the thought and concern Wickey put into these characters, and his artistic depiction is simply breathtaking. Today's podcast is one we've wanted to have for months. It's a thorough conversation, exploring with Wickey why the Salem witch trials are more significant today, and it will probably remain so for as long as those living dare to dismiss it as Halloween decoration. More Weight is available from Top Shelf Productions wherever rad comic books are sold. Follow Ben Wickey on Instagram. Today, we're bringing San Diego Comic-Con International to you, our beautiful listeners. Writer Christopher Cantwellreturns to the show for a boisterous Star Trek celebration. On September 23rd, IDW Publishing is relaunching its Star Trek line. Cantwell spearheads the main ongoing series alongside his artist collaborator, Dennis Menheere. We've been given a sneak peek, and consider their phasers set to stun cuz - We. Are. Stunned. Years after the Star Trek: Picard finale, Seven of Nine now captains the Enterprise-G. Her crew includes several legacy characters. Picard's kid. LaForge's kid. Worf's kid. Not to forget some characters familiar to those who've been reading the IDW comics and several new folks, too. This book is more forward-looking than backward-looking, as all good Trek should be. Most excitingly, Cantwell and Menheere are free to make COMICS within the Star Trek franchise. In the past, likeness has been the predominant factor when crafting brand comics. Dennis Menheere lets loose with his cartooning, embracing shapes and lines that communicate emotion and thought. They're not just assembled to please entertainment lawyers. These characters look like who they should look like, but more importantly, they feel like they should. Cantwell, Menheere, and the whole IDW crew seemingly have learned all the right lessons from Absolute Batman's success. Let's tell stories that only comics can tell. Let's engage with this medium's tools. This episode is the first of five episodes coming at ya this weekend. Be on the lookout for one new Comic Book Couples Counseling episode for every day of San Diego Comic-Con International. It's a lot, but you're gonna have fun whether you're here in California or not. The grownups killed the world. To escape destruction, Henry built The Forever Home. Inside, his family enjoys existence, protected by the poisonous elements outside. One catch: their time is compressed. For every twenty minutes they live, one hour outside passes. Nothing should ever cross the threshold. Writer Christian Ward is having a moment. He's about to launch his new artworld horror, The Patron. Event Horizon: Inferno currently rages on the stands, with the previous Event Horizon: Dark Descent premiering as a trade paperback next week at San Diego Comic-Con International. And, this fall, courtesy of Oni Press, he launches maybe his most personal and mature work yet, The Forever Home. The Forever Home is his Cocaine Bear. The premise alone should hook you, and once you crack its pages, the comic delivers on its promise. It's always a joy to have Christian Ward on the podcast. He's a theme-forward storyteller, and as such, the perfect Comic Book Couples Counseling guest. We get into it! First, we discuss why this year's San Diego Comic-Con is such a critical moment in his career. We look at the road behind him and the road ahead. We talk about The Forever Home's dystopian present, the family tragedy bubbling within, and how it confronts tribalism. The Forever Home #1 arrives in shops on September 9th. It's written by Christian Ward, illustrated by Sammi Kivelä, colored by Jason Wordie, and lettered by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. Dan Schkade on Lavender Jack

We are the choices we make. Good guy? Bad guy? We decide that every day until our last day. On this week's podcast, we're exploring how heroism and villainism mingle in Lavender Jack, the pulp adventure from cartoonist Dan Schkade. We're considering when to swim with society and when to swim against it, and how comic book vigilante justice too often forgets its own messaging. Lavender Jack, originally published on Webtoon, is where Schkade cracked the comic strip medium, preparing him to take over Flash Gordon, where he now lives daily. We discuss why these pulp adventurers appeal so profoundly to him, and how their tales can be told with a contemporary bite. It's the perfect discussion to prepare us for next week's plunge into San Diego Comic-Con, where we'll be moderating three panels and attempting to interview all the comic book celebrity guests. We're in plug-goblin-mode during the intro, barely containing our excitement for the year's biggest comic book event. If you thought our July 2026 coverage was already intense, oh boy, strap in. Lavender Jack is written, illustrated, and lettered by Dan Schkade. It's colored by Jenn Manley Lee. Volume One is currently available from Dark Horse Comics, and you can expect Volume 2 on September 29th. Make sure you're following Dan Schkade on Instagram and Bluesky. Witnessing adaptation is one of our great pleasures. How does one transform an audio medium into a visual one? How will the podcast World Beyond Number, from Brennan Lee Mulligan, Erika Ishii, Aabria Iyengar, and Lou Wilson, expand into The Wizard, The Witch, and The Wild One, courtesy of comic storytellers Jadzia Axelrod and Sarah Webb? When the chance to ponder the thought arose with some of those involved, we jumped at it. There are only days left ot support Worlds Beyond Wonder: The Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One via Kickstarter. As of this writing, it's already reached over $1.8 million. The book is happening and will be published through Skybound Entertainment. Join the party in confidence. We spoke with Brennan Lee Mulligan, Erika Ishii, and Lou Wilson about their love of comics and the delight they've discovered in watching Jadzia Axelrod and Sarah Webb bring their story to this medium. We relish the love evident in their play, found in every Worlds Beyond Number episode. We discuss nerdom not as a monolith, but as an endless pebbly beach. This episode was a fantastic surprise, but not as big a surprise as the email we recently received that threw our lives into turmoil (which is the topic of today's introduction). Kenny Porter and Tyrell Cannon on Operation Iron Coffin

No hard sell required with this one. Operation: Iron Coffin #1 is in shops today, courtesy of IDW Publishing. It's concocted by our new favorite comic book dynamic duo, Kenny Porter and Tyrell Cannon (with letterer Shawn Lee). In its pages, you'll see Bram Stoker's Dracula working for the Allies during World War II. Like a bomb, he's dropped from a plane upon a secret Nazi gold train. He lands in the caboose. He proceeds to slaughter his way toward the engine. Many losers are torn limb from limb. Folks have already compared its action to John Wick, but it's more like Game of Death smashed with Snowpiercer. As Dracula works his bloody way down the train, new foes present themselves, boss-level style, and each one represents a different mindset or philosophy. Porter and Cannon excel in the excessive bodily harm, but simmering beneath the violence is a powerful reckoning with the human experience and the darkest depths our species can plunge. In the last few years, we've spent a lot of time pondering vampires, mortals, and their relationship to the soul. How fun to have Kenny Porter and Tyrell Cannon on the podcast this week to discuss bloodsuckers, human monsters, evil, and capital E Evil. This is a full-spoilers conversation about Operation: Iron Coffin #1. Be warned. However, this is kind of an unspoilable book. Nothing we say in this podcast can rob the comic of its visual might. So, listen based on your own spoiler sensitivity. But, seriously, you should just grab the comic the next time you're in the shop. Follow Kenny Porter on Instagram and Bluesky. The Masculine Blueprint That Fixes 80% of Marriage Problems featuring G.S. Youngblood

If you're trying to put the puzzle pieces of your marriage back together, or you're stuck in that roommate syndrome that drains the life out of a home, this replay is for you. I'm bringing back G.S. Youngblood, author of two bestselling books, The Masculine in Relationship and The Art of Embodiment for Men, because over the past couple of months I've gotten so many emails from men who are really, really struggling in their marriages. His work has come up again and again in our community, and he's even helped me with my own clients. What I love about G.S. is that he lives in neither of the two extremes most men swing between. There's the ultimate nice guy who's disrespected, unappreciated, and quietly filled with resentment because his needs never get met, and there's the toxic, controlling, domineering guy on the other end. Neither one is attractive, and neither one leads. G.S. teaches what he calls relational masculinity, staying grounded in your masculine core while being deeply connected to your partner, and he lays out a three part blueprint any man can actually follow. This was one of our top shows of the past year, and we get into the stuff that changes marriages. We talk about firm but loving parenting and why ruling by fear breaks down the relationship you'll want with your kids later. We talk about grounding your nervous system before you ever try to fix anything, and G.S. even walks me through a live embodiment exercise right there in my chair. And we get honest about sex, rejection, and the little hurt boy that shows up when we feel shut down. G.S. was one of our speakers at the Men's Forge this past April, and he blew the doors off. I've read his book three times now. If you've been banging your head against the wall in your marriage, or you just want to understand why your wife can sniff out an agenda from a mile away, this conversation is going to give you clarity and probably piss you off a little at the same time, in the best way.   Timeline Summary [1:02] Larry sets up the replay and why he's bringing G.S. Youngblood back for men struggling in their marriages [3:00] The July promotion for the Alliance and Boardroom, with a hard stop on July 31st [5:05] G.S. on his intense but loving childhood and how it polarized him into the good boy role [7:36] Firm but loving parenting, and why he went the opposite direction with his own kids [10:06] The energetic difference between "no" with an iron fist and "I love you, but no" [11:15] Why ruling by fear gets compliance but breaks the free flowing relationship you want later [14:05] Inner clarity comes first, and why nice guys chase external validation instead [16:01] The daily embodiment practice G.S. installs with every man before anything else [20:03] A day in the life of his grounding routine: ground connection, breathwork, movement, meditation [22:41] Why embodiment sticks better than meditation, and a live exercise Larry does in his chair [26:36] Curiosity, agenda, and how women sense the energetic plane men usually ignore [31:21] The frozen "data file" picture men keep of their wives, and why the feminine is always changing [34:31] Emotional safety as the foundation of sexual chemistry, and going for the cause not the symptom [39:38] The Masculine Blueprint: respond versus react, provide structure, and create safety [41:07] What to tell the man who says "I stay calm and she still pushes back" [45:59] Provide structure without domination, and the clarity plus inclusion principle [50:18] Larry's story of owning his need for sex without getting pissy, and how it landed for his wife [53:02] Why sexual rejection feels like kryptonite, and owning your sexuality with power or humor [58:02] The gift of reassurance from Larry's wife, and reframing rejection that isn't about you [1:03:16] Leading your partner toward arousal by getting her back into her body [1:04:35] Where to find G.S.: his bootcamp, workshops, Instagram, and book   Five Key Takeaways Lead your family with firmness and heart at the same time, not with an iron fist and not with a loose "anything goes" structure. You can be powerful, clear, and unyielding while staying in your heart, and that artful blend is what your kids and your wife actually need. Before you try to fix anything in your marriage, ground your nervous system with a daily embodiment practice. When you're triggered, you make regressed, reactive decisions, but when you bring your awareness back into your body and into the present moment, the fight in front of you isn't nearly as scary as your nervous system claims. Stop pounding on the symptoms and go find what's underneath. When a good woman is chronically prickly, critical, or shut down sexually, it's usually because a need isn't being met or a wound never got addressed, and your job as a man is to lead the way back to connection rather than blame her mood. You may or may not be the problem, but you are the solution. Stop trying to figure out who caused the fight and step up to be bigger than her mood, because taking ownership of the repair is what masculine leadership actually looks like. Rejection around sex feels like kryptonite, but going into your little hurt boy and pouting is deeply unattractive to your wife. Own your sexuality with calm power or playful humor, remember that a "no" often has nothing to do with you, and know that her desire can live just below the surface waiting for connection to bring it up.   Links & Resources Episode 1499 show notes: https://thedadedge.com/1499 Join The Dad Edge Alliance and Boardroom (July promotion): https://thedadedge.com/join The Dad Edge Boardroom mastermind (apply and book a call): https://thedadedge.com/mastermind G.S. It's fantastic when a comic gives you a jolt. Beast of Borikén, written by Julio Anta and illustrated by Daniel Irizarri, delivers a great prod, stimulating your brain to run numerous scenarios on and off the page. It's the story of a people who've witnessed so much monstrosity at the hands of invaders. It's a story of people finding strength in their neighbors, ancestors, and legends. The first issue is out now, from Dark Horse Comics and Tiny Onion, and we investigate it meaningfully with both storytellers. Set in Puerto Rico, the main character is Loli, an activist protesting an incoming resort, the face of which is yuppy CEO Simon Hunt, who is using every slippery trick in the book to break ground despite opposition. Loli is incensed and focused on stopping the overdevelopment of her ancestral lands, but is her fixation in part because she is avoiding processing a horrendous grief, since her father died alone in a hospital during Hurricane Maria? This week on the podcast, we speak with Julio Anta and Daniel Irizarri about Beast of Borikén, witnessing endless horror, and hope through collective action. We discuss the influence of The Creature from the Black Lagoon and the appeal of monsters. Also, what does it all have to do with Robocop 2? You'll have to make your way through the intro to understand all that. Beast of Borikén #1 is out now from Dark Horse Comics and Tiny Onion. It's written by Julio Anta, illustrated by Daniel Irizarri, colored by Patricio Delpeche, and lettered by Lucas Gattoni. Follow Julio Anta on Instagram and Bluesky. No one is more surprised than we are. Frank Miller, the legendary comics maker behind Daredevil: Born Again, Ronin, Batman: Year One, Sin City, and The Dark Knight Returns, which celebrates its fortieth anniversary this year, joins us this week to discuss his career as he filtered it through his new memoir/self-help book, Push The Wall: My Life, Writing, Drawing, and The Art of Storytelling. His latest creation floored us. Broken into sixteen lessons, Push the Wall sees Frank Miller excavate his past to understand his pursuit of storytelling. He attempts to explain his rebellious nature and a need to throw himself against opposing forces, but in the process, reveals the awesome, unbeatable power of change. He treats the reader as his mentors did, like Neal Adams and Dick Giordano. Push the Wall works not only as motivation for the struggling artist, but also for the struggling human. The aggression and fascination for violence are present, but more importantly, Push the Wall contains a great softness or vulnerability. Frank Miller is not a creator who doubles down on past mistakes; he admits regret and offers encouragement to everyone who must fail to grow. We're beyond delighted to have Frank Miller on the podcast. We discuss how “The City” was the first to change him, why The Dark Knight Returns should not be the template for all Batman stories, and whether or not Robocop 2 is an essential ingredient in his vocation. Push the Wall: My Life, Writing, Drawing, and the Art of Storytelling arrives in bookstores everywhere on July 14th. Make sure you're following Frank Miller on Instagram and his website. Opening hook / origin Chris, you've said that roadside coyote scene was the first thing you wrote, even before you knew the full story. What was it about that moment that felt like the right entry point into this world? 2. Tone and influences You're blending eco-horror and neo-noir in a really striking way here. What's each of your relationship to those genres—are there specific books or films that shaped how you approached them, or personal favorites that were on your mind while making this? 3. The prose chapter choice That opening prose chapter from Oilfield Graveyard: Tales of the Wildcatter Myth is such a bold structural swing. What does prose allow you to do that comics alone wouldn't, especially in setting up the mythology? 4. The Wildcatter as a presence The Wildcatter evolves from something almost abstract in issue #2 to something disturbingly human in issue #3. How did you approach revealing it piece by piece without losing the mystery? 5. Character and transformation The grandmother's descent is genuinely unsettling. How did you think about her transformation in relation to the oil itself, is it possession, corruption, or something more symbolic? 6. Visual storytelling and horror lineage Charlie, you spent years defining the visual language of long-form horror on The Walking Dead. When you approach a story like this, how does that experience inform your instincts—and where do you find yourself deliberately doing something different? 7. Pacing and silent storytelling Charlie, one thing that really stands out is how much space you're given for quiet, atmospheric sequences—scenes that breathe and flow without a lot of dialogue or overt plot movement. How do you approach pacing those moments visually so they still feel propulsive, and what do you think comics can do in those silent stretches that other mediums can't? 8. Fun / silly question: If the Wildcatter had a playlist, what's the one song that absolutely has to be on it?

Beneath a pitiless New Mexico sky, a young outlaw rides into the dead man's country and finds something far worse than the law waiting for him there. In this brutal, slow-burning descent into western horror, D.R. Wisniewski conjures a world of dust, blood, and spiritual desolation, where a charismatic monster known only as the Deacon moves through the frontier like a living omen. As violence closes in and the road south grows darker, Drew Blood's Dark Tales invites listeners into a tale of ruthless men, impossible evil, and the thin line between survival and surrender. In this solo episode, I share what's coming in March inside the Dad Edge Alliance, including a full breakdown of how we're helping dads move from authoritarian parenting to grounded leadership and collaboration. I also announce The Men's Forge live event, the next Roommates to Soulmates cohort, and highlight an incredible 1st Phorm transformation story from inside our community.   If you've been feeling the drift — in your parenting, your marriage, your energy, or your leadership — this episode is your reset.     Timeline Summary [0:00] Who this episode is for — dads stuck in power struggles or marriage drift [4:19] Why holding kids accountable feels harder than asking them to do something [5:51] Moving from authoritarian parenting to grounded leadership [7:06] Mastering regulation before correction [8:16] Building accountability without authoritarian energy [9:59] The Men's Forge live event announcement [13:22] Guest speaker lineup including G.S. Youngblood [15:03] F3 Nation President Frank "Dark Helmet" Schwarze joining the event [17:01] Dad Edge 1st Phorm Dad of the Month transformation [18:53] Roommates to Soulmates course update and preview call details     Five Key Takeaways: Authoritarian parenting creates compliance — but often erodes trust. Regulation before correction is a leadership skill every dad needs. Collaboration builds accountability far better than control. Intimacy fades when emotional leadership is missing at home.
