Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we comment on ten years of doing this podcast. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Note: we recorded our first podcast on Feb 26th, 2016. This episode reflects that date. At the time, we actually banked a few episodes, and decided to hold off a week to do that. We never banked an episode again :) Issues covered: ten years of podcasting, counting series and games, what kind of gamer are you?, balance in all things, the types of games Brett went deep on, games that exemplify Tim's games, first-person shooters and third-person action adventure, earliest games we played, latest game we played, surprise moments, the butter knife returns, knucklehead stealth, crazy world-altering moments, singing reviews, our longest series, how many interviews, the backstory of Daedalus, cultural sensibility, a grotty fish stew, staying under the radar, cramming features in at the end, pitching vs shipping, how many community episodes we've had, having a community game server, the charity event, getting to understand streaming, praying at the shrine of humility, more than 500 hours of podcasts, keys that aren't keys, the team makes the game, tell them less so they can discover more, the importance of constraints, mortality, letting the player choose, how long are we going to keep this up, knowing when to end, a little thanks each way, fueling us.
Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we continue our series on Ultima IV. We talk about the boat, we talk about dungeons (a tiny bit), we deep dive into NPCs and consequences, we talk about the quests and how everything is in the world, and answer some listener email. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: More of Ultima IV (Much more, in B's case) Issues covered: revisiting locations and finding new things, a game that does a lot with a little, everything existing in the world, getting to know the world, NPCs sharing sprites and being hard to remember, getting a ship and fighting your way on, broadside combat, dying to a waterspout, wanting to search the oceans, badly simulating tacking, riding a horse, being interrupted in any location, trying to replicate the tabletop experience, feeling like a "yes" game, whether what you do matters, can you be a thief, watering down a morality system, having a limited palette of options at any one time, layering frosting, taking out the friction and icky feeling, the niche audience of some RPGs, taking elements from older games and bringing them into modern games, asking questions of the player who is also the character, avoiding the uncanny valley, an aside into adventure mode, the horseshoe effect on NPCs, reaching the limits of what the human brain can contemplate, an aside into Dunbar's number, facing the same challenges, chunking chapters, feeling the anxiety of there being too much, coalescing your notes from time to time, the telescope moment and seeing the map, the lack of loot, preparing to do things, validating your assumptions, having to revisit everywhere, the friction of Pikmin, getting good controllers, handheld mode, the Wavebird, bouncing off character creation, character creation we've liked, wanting a story to wrap around a more specific character, the generic hero, having fun with a character creator, a freeing character creator. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Final Fantasy (series), Gold Box (series), Eye of the Beholder, Outer Wilds, The Witcher (series), Beowulf, Dungeons & Dragons, Wizardry (series), BioWare, Mass Effect, BioShock, Dishonored, CD Project Red, Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur's Gate III, Thief, Robin Hood, VtM Bloodlines, Undertale, Dark Souls, Land of the Lost, Dwarf Fortress, Planescape: Torment, Metroid / Castlevania, Richard Garriott, Sasha, Pikmin, Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto, Switch, PlayStation, Analog Pocket, Ashton Herrmann, Monkey Island, Wing Commander, Morrowind, Fallout 3, Dragon Age: Origins, Bethesda Game Studios, Blizzard, World of Warcraft, Diablo (series), Metal Gear Solid V, Hideo Kojima, Saint's Row IV, Call of Cthulhu, Asher, Cuphead, KyleAndError, Hitman, FFSZilla, MGS: VR Missions, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia. Extra Extra! Listen hear all about it! This week Janet, John, (and Pen) dive into the life of the zeitgeist of zeitgeists, the legendary, revolutionary, groundbreaking, funny force of nature who sang like a blue angel, our logo….Marlene Dietrich! Born on December 27, 1901 at Leberstraße 65 in the neighborhood of Rote Insel in Schöneberg, now a district of Berlin, Dietrich became one of the most iconic figures in the entertainment industry, known for her distinctive voice, smoldering sex appeal, glamorous style, and androgynous allure. Originally planning to become a classical violnist, an injury turned our starlet to theater. After a failed audition for Max Reinhardt, Dietrich got her start as a chorus girl in his theaters, but never seemed to get her big break on the stage. She moved her career towards film, acting in So sind die Männer (1923) and The Tragedy of Love (1923), while still maintaining a career on the stage and in cabaret— embodying the "New Women" lifestyle. By 1930, She got her big break in the film Der Blaue Engel (The Blue Angel) after film director, Josef Von Sternberg saw her performance in Zwei Krawatten (Two Ties). She would go on to act in Morocco (1930), Dishonored (1931), Blonde Venus (1932), The Scarlet Empress (1934), The Devil Is a Woman (1935), A Foreign Affair (1948), Stage Fright (1950), Witness for the Prosecution (1957), Touch of Evil (1958), and Judgment at Nuremberg (1961). She was also nominated for a best actress cast in 1932 for Morocco, Golden Globe and a Laurel Award in 1958 for WItness for the Prosecution. Warmest of Welcomes everyone This month on the Mooglecast myself (Max) and Zac are joined by Trophy Room patron Katieeee to talk about all things 2026 but not without first feeling our bones ache by acknowledging some of the great games that turn 10 years old this year! So happy birthyear Dishonored 2, Dark Souls 3, Overwatch, Final Fantasy XV and Pokemon GO. For the preshow Katie kicks us off by sharing her experiences and approach to streaming, followed by our usual run of platinum shoutouts and a series spotlight on DOOM, from there we insert a new segment into the show titled Cactuar Vs Tonberry where myself and Zac kick off our friendly comp for the year. The main Meat & Potatoes of the show are taken up by what we've been playing and of course our main topic discussing our top 5 most anticipated games of 2026. Enjoy the first show of 2026 and we'll see you next month, but until then... be excellent to each other. Max

This week, we are approaching the final section of Peter's letter, where he addresses how Christians are to live in a hostile world. Peter's focus is on enduring suffering for righteousness' sake while keeping our hope fixed on the eternal glory God has prepared for us. He reminds us that everything we do - our words, actions, and service - should glorify God, pointing others to His greatness and character. Living for God naturally draws opposition, and Peter warns that trials and ridicule are part of the Christian journey, designed not to harm us but to refine and strengthen our faith, much like gold being purified in fire. Peter gives practical encouragement for facing these trials. Believers are to rejoice in sharing Christ's sufferings, understanding that what appears as shame or loss in the world is actually a sign of belonging to Him. He reminds us of the example of the early apostles, who were whipped, insulted, and even died for preaching the gospel, yet rejoiced because they were counted worthy to suffer for Christ's name. I think of Stephen, the first Christian martyr, whose courage, prayer, and vision of Jesus standing at God's right hand demonstrate how God's Spirit, the Spirit of glory, gives strength, sustains His people, and confirms their ultimate vindication, even in the darkest moments. Finally, Peter clarifies that suffering for Christ is blessed, but suffering for sin or misdeeds carries no honor. He urges believers to embrace the name “Christian” with Godly pride, recognizing that it signifies being part of a diverse and unified body of Christ. He explains that God's judgment begins with His people to purify and prepare them, and that enduring trials faithfully point to the greater accountability of the world. Our response, then, is to entrust ourselves to the faithful Creator, who is sovereign over all life and circumstances, and to continue doing good, confident that God is at work for His glory.

Today, we're navigating shifting gravity and even shakier development timelines as we dive into Prey, the 2006 sci-fi shooter that took over a decade—and four complete overhauls—to reach players. We begin by exploring the ambitious origins of the original Prey, from 3D Realms' early aspirations for a revolutionary 3D engine to a series of failed prototypes, engine rewrites, and studio shakeups. Then, we follow the game's surprising resurrection at Human Head Studios, tracing how Cherokee mythology, alien abductions, and groundbreaking mechanics came together in a game that wowed critics and sold over a million copies. Finally, we chart the messy road to Prey 2, its abrupt cancellation, and the eventual reboot by Arkane Studios in 2017—a spiritual successor that channeled System Shock and Dishonored into something entirely new. So grab your spirit bow and prepare to walk the walls on today's gravity-defying trip down Memory Card Lane! Find out more at https://a-trip-down-memory-card-lane.pinecast.co

On today's Daily Fix, the founder of Akane Studios, creators of Dishonored and Prey, and the now President at Weird West developer, WolfEye Studio called Xbox Game Pass unsustainable in a thread of posts on social media where a debate over the pros and cons of Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass for gamers and developers ensued. Other devs like, Joe Kainer, former VP of Biz Dev Epic Games and Michael Douse, publishing director at Baldur's Gate 3 developer, Larian Studios also joined the conversation to back him up.

Support my work on Patreon (https://patreon.com/realdavejackson) As a lifelong Indiana Jones agnostic, there was no way that MachineGames would make an Indiana Jones game I would care about, right? Right? Well, it certainly looked that way when the first gameplay trailer for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle dropped. But then I started hearing my activation phrases start to bounce around- "this is like Hitman", "this is like Dishonored", so I knew I had to give it a try. And boy am I glad that I did! Up first Joseph has updates on Dishonored and FGO, and Andrew is very sad as the fighting game tournaments have all dried up. Then we have our next round of Would or Wouldn't, as Joseph and Andrew dig through the top players for Nijisanji. And finally in our last reviews show before we get into the previews, Joseph is saddened and disappointed in what they did to his boy in Mahouka and Andrew becomes the therapist for a group of girls with bad love luck.
This week on Anime Pulse we got stolen meat, mysterious F cups, and finders keepers. Up first in the IRL news Joseph updates us on FGO, Azur Lane, and Dishonored. Andrew meanwhile wants to know what the community thinks 2025 will bring us in the anime industry. Then in the industry news a composer for Chibli comes down with the sickness, and a new trailer for Zatsu Tabi: That's Journey gets released. Lastly in the reviews Joseph is left pondering the mysterious nature of urban legends, and Andrew builds a plane to see the top of a tower with his best friend and a girl they both love.
This week on Anime Pulse we got blinking all over the place, the best anime of 2024, and muscle mommies. Up first Joseph passed on returning to BioShock to instead play Dishonored, and Andrew asks the community what their best anime of 2024 was. Then in the industry news we got some isekai coming at us, the ten things tourists do that annoy the Japanese on trains, and the return of One Piece. And finally in the last reviews of 2024 Joseph becomes OP after hitting level two and proceeds to bang a wold girl, and Andrew works at a temple with a lazy elf who is big into anime and video games.
