It is that ability to say the things you want to say out loud that allows you to show up and ultimately make an impact. –Alexia Vernon Do you speak up for yourself? For issues that matter to you?  I'm talking with Alexia Vernon, a speaking coach, and we've talked before, but this conversation is a little different. We're talking about being able to walk into any conversation and unapologetically speak up for yourself and any ideas or issues that matter to you. One thing I've noticed is that sometimes this ability seems selective. We can advocate for our kids, but struggle to advocate for ourselves at work. Or you can speak up for your business, but feel like you've lost your voice in your marriage. We talk about the why behind this and how to find your voice in any situation. We talk about layers to address: stories about speaking up and how they feel in your body, messaging and practicing what you're going to say, presence or using our bodies, and calling people to action. We talk about:  The difference between ruminating and practicing what you will say The missing piece when you have a conversation but nothing changes Asking yourself where you are feeling constriction when you want to speak up and using breathing or visualization to bring a sense of safety and release to help open those spaces Using pleasure points instead of pain points to move people to action (in business and personal situations) Setting boundaries clearly and having a shared vocabulary when working with a team or clients Not waiting until the top emotion is anger or resentment to have a conversation BIO Alexia Vernon is a sought-after advisor to executives, senior leadership teams, entrepreneurs, coaches, and consultants who want to speak with an unshakeable presence, sell their ideas, navigate daring conversations, develop high performing teams, advance their thought leadership, and make a lasting positive social impact. Alexia has supported thousands of leaders and speakers through her Step into Your Moxie® corporate offerings, online training, live events, mastermind, and certification programs. LINKS https://stepintoyourmoxie.com/ (https://stepintoyourmoxie.com/) https://plansimple.com/more-please-with-alexia-vernon/ (More Please with Alexia Vernon) Doable Changes from this episode: NOTICE CONSTRICTION. When you feel yourself struggle to speak up, try to notice where in your body you feel it. Is it in your knees, your thighs, your belly, your throat? Start by noticing. Then see if you can release using breathing or meditation. PRACTICE WHAT YOU WANT TO SAY. When we are passionate about something, we think we'll be able to just riff off the top of our heads and say the important things that move people to action. But without practice, we often miss the mark. You don't have to write out and memorize a speech, but think through what you want to say. Practice saying it. CENTER THE OTHER PERSON. Think about what you want from the conversation: what change do you want, what do you want the other person to do? What do they need? What is their motivator? Can you lead with that?

Infidelity - Overcome the Devastation- My Story- with special guest host, Alexia Vernon, author of Step into Your Moxie.25-70% of Americans have had an extramarital affair. And the reason that infidelity statistics are so difficult to get a handle on, is because the data is gathered from self-reported surveys, and most people don’t admit engaging in infidelity. Because it’s taboo. Because it’s scary to think it could happen to us.There is a lot of misunderstanding and judgment around those who are unfaithful, the betrayed partner, what happens in a relationship after the affair (or affairs) have ended, and how to healthily go forward. To make matters worse, pop culture’s version of what it’s like to have, or be the victim of, an affair is shockingly incorrect, meaning that well-meaning friends or family sometime only make matters worse – not better. In addition, there are surprisingly few quality resources out there for a problem that, while very complex, is exceedingly common. The devastation of my infidelity experience was beyond what I thought I could endure. It is not something I will ever get over, nor will a day ever go by where I don’t think about its impact on me, my children, family and friends and be consumed – at least for a moment – by the crushing pain. But the woman I have become throughout this journey is not someone I would trade for all the world.Affairs happen for many different reasons, across all social-economic classes, all religious backgrounds, all political affiliations, and all cultures. Chances are very good that if you have not yet been touched by infidelity, you will be. It is my wish to be a beacon of compassion, to open up difficult conversations around infidelity and its impact on everyone, not just those who are involved. Moxielicious, hosted by Alexia Vernon, is the podcast for entrepreneurial and corporate leaders who want to unapologetically speak up for themselves, their companies, and the ideas and issues that matter most to them. It’s for industry leaders who have been called to develop the voices of their people but who know they need to dial-up their own voices right along-side them. It’s for those who know they have massive thought leadership potential but often feel like they are best-kept secrets in their fields - and they are over it. Whether you call yourself a coach, consultant, entrepreneur, business or nonprofit leader OR you are in HR/talent development, you sit in the C-suite, or you sling mai tais on the beach in Hawaii half the year, if you love practical self-improvement as much as you love strategy served up with ample helpings of sass, this is the podcast for you. Overcoming Overwhelm: Dismantle Your Stress from the Inside Out is the title of the book written by my guest for this episode of the podcast, Dr. Samantha Brody. Dr. Samantha, as she is frequently called, is a licensed naturopathic physician and acupuncturist, and the founder of Evergreen Natural Health Center in Portland, OR. For decades in her private practice and virtual consulting business, she has helped thousands of people transform their lives with her innovative, personalized approach.  I love how the right podcast guest presents herself to me every time. Because the truth is, I have been feeling pretty overwhelmed in my life right now. A new puppy, challenges with our younger son in relationship with the puppy, a traumatic experience with an active shooter scare at a theme park with my son Ryan, and a cold and cough that I couldn’t shake was definitely creating a sense of overwhelm.  But, inspired by this conversation, I decided to take a pause and start to take steps that are already helping me feel better. I said no to some things on my to do list, I pushed out the date of this episode’s release and I started shutting down my computer in the evenings. I reached out to Dr. Samantha for a consultation about my health and my friend, Casey O’Roarty of the Joyful Courage Podcast, for a positive parenting coaching session. I also posted in the Mother’s Quest Facebook Group to share what was happening and was met with an outpouring of support. One mother who responded with compassion and to tell me I was not alone in how I was feeling was Anne Ferguson of MamaFuel, the perfect person to bring us this episode’s dedication about the importance of saying no and caring for ourselves. Anne’s dedication, this conversation on the podcast, and the challenge and tools that Dr. Samantha invites us to explore have been powerful invitations for me to slow down, to look at what I value most, and to realign with a focus on self-compassion and self-care, to those things. I invite you to press pause, to release something from your to do list today, so that you have a little more space to listen in to this reflective conversation with Dr. Samantha. Then follow through as I will with the “values” exercise she gives us as our challenge, share what you discover in the Mother’s Quest Facebook group where Samantha will be following up with us, and join me in taking more steps toward overcoming overwhelm. Much appreciation, P.S. Know someone who would love this conversation? Pay this forward to a friend who may be interested.   This  Episode is Dedicated by: Anne Ferguson of Mamafuel  This episode is dedicated by Anne Ferguson to every mama who has said no to the overwhelm and lovingly took the time to take care of themselves, so they can show up strong and whole in their lives and with the people they love. Anne is the founder of MamaFuel, a global community of mamas who are learning to put themselves first, so they can enjoy happier relationships with their kids and thrive in every part of their lives. Anne hosts amazing urban retreats for mamas across Switzerland, where she lives with her husband, two daughters and one very demanding dog.   Anne is also the host of MamaFuel: The Podcast in which she shares raw, real and often funny conversations with mamas who are doing great things in ways large and small. Her mission is to change the way mamas treat themselves and each other so we can live in a more connected, harmonious world where mamas are thriving. Anne’s passion for words and how we talk to ourselves and each other expands beyond MamaFuel. Anne recently founded Your Process Lab, a company that’s revolutionizing the way organizations train and motivate their people by ditching stiff, archaic language and communicating in ways that make today’s workforce take action. Anne consults to the United Nations on language and communication and is expanding her activities to include public speaking across Europe.   Visit the MamaFuel website: https://www.mamafuel.me/ Follow Anne Ferguson on Social Media: Instagram Facebook MamaFuel’s free Virtual Village   In This Episode We Talk About: How Samantha’s medical trauma and experience being bullied may have impacted her healing career path  Samantha’s commitment to empowering and supporting her patients to express their needs and advocate for themselves.   Living in integrity with your values and the “tells” our body gives us when we are out of alignment Conversations with Samantha’s son about his adoption and about race (he is biracial and Samantha and her husband are white) from the time he was young and how that set up an openness and honesty about all kinds of conversation  What is overwhelm and Samantha’s four-step process for overcoming it  How so many things in our lives can come in "seasons" and how in this season for Samantha, slowing down to pause is serving her most Resources from Dr. Samantha: Overcoming Overwhelm: Dismantle Your Stress from the Inside Out Values Exercise  from Overcoming Overwhelm Sample Chapter from Overcoming Overwhelm Resources mentioned in this episode: Ep 27: Courageous Conversations About Race with Nicole Lee Ep 10: Choosing Gratitude and Glitter with Nancy Netherland Modern Mystics Institute Casey O’Roarty’s Joyful Courage - a resource for positive parenting This Week's Challenge: For this week’s challenge, Dr. Samantha challenges us to do the values exercise from a chapter in her book. This exercise is designed to help you understand what aspects of your inner and outer worlds are most important to you. You'll discover what values and ideals you want your life--and your choices-- to be lining up with on a daily basis. This is the first step, Dr. Samantha says, in finally overcoming overwhelm; if you're trying to have less stress and/or if you want to be less overwhelmed, lining your choices up with your values is the key to making that happen. “Each of us has that innate ability to attain and maintain our own optimal health” - the real healer lies within. — Avanti Kumar Singh I’m honored to bring this second episode of the fourth season of The Mother’s Quest Podcast with Avanti Kumar Singh, a physician, teacher and guide with a unique ability to open our minds and help us find the healer within through Ayurvedic medicine. The inspiration for this episode with Avanti came during a car ride last August from Camp GLP (Good Life Project) to the Newark airport with two friends I attended the weekend experience with, Lizzy Russinko and Judy Blank Zinnato.   We were exchanging notes about our favorite workshops from the weekend and all the lessons we learned, when Lizzy shared the life-changing wisdom she gained from hearing Avanti present. Judy and I were both so sorry we had missed it, and I vowed in that moment to do my best to connect with Avanti and to share her wisdom with you. The conversation, eight months in the making, did not disappoint! I loved the journey we explored together, from the impact of Avanti’s own mother and the Indian traditions that shaped her healthy childhood to her health crisis while studying to be an emergency physician and how that created a spark moment that brought her back to her roots and Ayurveda. Touching on each E.P.I.C guidepost, Avanti shares how Ayurveda can become a powerful lens for living a healthy, reflective life, one where we open our minds, and tap into our own ability to provide counter-balance to the things that are troubling us and support our own healing. Within that frame, we touched on so many topics, from Ayurveda and parenting to menopause, intermittent fasting and how to support our children as they transition to college and beyond. Avanti gives us a challenge to explore our daily routines, identify any trouble spots and then apply the teachings of Ayurveda to craft our own remedies. And after we finished recording, Avanti offered to share an even deeper exploration of Ayurvedic principles, give us a chance to ask her questions, and share what we’ve uncovered about our daily routines through a Master Class that we’ll be offering on April 30th. Sign up for email updates at mothersquest.com and join the facebook group and you’ll be notified on the date and time so you can join us. This conversation is just the beginning for how we can tap into the power of Ayurveda in our own healing. I’m feeling so grateful to start along this path with Avanti as our guide. What does embodied power look, sound and feel like in a woman who is expressing as her whole and true self?  What does it look, feel and sound like in you? In your presence? In your voice, spoken or written? In how you are received and perceived by others?  How do you access your truth, your voice and use it to amplify your visibility, influence, and presence in the world… in a way that is true to your expression, your authentic self? The models for what power looks like in a person, what it sounds like, what people respond to, are distorted. So we as women and the women before us have to distort and contort ourselves to get a seat at the table, be taken seriously, have our voices heard, or take on the qualities of men or intellectual machines without heart. That time is over. No more contorting, distorting our presence to fit in. And also no more having to scream to be heard, be serious to be taken seriously, and suppressing our femininity in how we dress, speak and show up. Today I invite you to explore within yourself the ways in which if you knew how to more powerfully wield your voice and presence, you would create more of the reality you desire for yourself, the world and what matters to you. Whether that is in your relationships, your career, your message, your business, HOW you show up and the presence you are in it, matters big time. But how we’ve been taught to use that voice, to show up to get what we need and be heard isn’t working for us as women. So today, in this episode of Feminine Power Time, PRESENCE: Women with a Voice, #2 of 3 in our Re-Imagining Feminine Power series, I invite you to join me, Christine Arylo, women’s leadership advisor and catalyst, and special guest Alexia Vernon, author of Step into Your Moxie, for a session that will touch your heart, open your voice, and inspire you to expand in your expression in this world this year. We dive into: The history of what women have had to do to be heard or be taken seriously – thank you so much! And it’s our turn to do it differently. Why women are not taken seriously or heard – and men are often listened to over women Revealing what you do when you feel confident or insecure when speaking – are you a bunny, a bull, a cheetah or a owl? And how you may be sabotaging yourself? Reclaim what leadership is – and why we must do this as women to have the influence we desire in the world. How to have your full range of emotion and also be a powerful catalyst for change and elevation not more separation Difference between trying to BE something, and being who you are – and how to tell the difference Is what you look like on the outside reflecting who you are on the inside? What happens when you move from your focus from trying to inform and get other people to understand and to shifting to focusing on connection? Where your feminine power and voice lives in your body – and why spanx, bellies and flat abs are short circuiting our power How do you find and express your natural communication super power? Here are some of the wisdom bytes from the show followed by how to connect with Alexia, including her book Step into Your Moxie – and also upcoming retreats with Christine Arylo.   WISDOM BYTES:   Leadership is not bestowed vs. leadership is embodied and chosen.   Embrace your leadership power, do not try to “own” your power. Confidence comes from stopping to grip your body and let your body do what it knows how to do to connect with others and move the energy. It intuitively knows when to stay still, we know when to move.   Your power comes from your presence, not your position.   If you know what your core essences are, then you can be who you are truly are.   If you don’t know who you are in your core, you will contort yourself to fit in.   As women who want to have more impact in the world. we have to harness our storytelling power. We are being called to speak more clearly, authentically to be a vessel for the divine to come through.  Speak from compassion without censoring what you have to say.   *** WISDOM INQUIRY FOR YOU: What are you going to embody more of this year to more powerfully express your presence and voice? What is wanting to come through you more this year? Make this year part of exploring this next season or elevation of your expression. What do you need to embody that is already in you? What from your past, needs to integrate into who you are now? Have an exploration. Play with how you dress, speak, write.   ***** MORE ON ALEXIA VERNON Get Alexia Vernon's Book - great wisdom, fun, stories, and potent power. What was the process of becoming a “moxie” look like for you? Where should we draw the line when something in our careers isn’t going the way that we intended?   Radically Loved Quotes   “When we let go of trying to change what happens and instead reclaim how we choose to speak to ourselves and others around us, that’s what ultimately determines how the rest of the chapters are going to go.”   “The sensation of butterflies in our stomach is beckoning us into our next level of truth and visibility.”   “For me resilience is a core value.”   More About Our Guest   Alexia Vernon is a speaker, leadership coach, and author of Step Into Your Moxie: Amplify Your Voice, Visibility, and Influence in the World. Large or small, we all have traumas, triggers, and moments in our past that we wish we could change. But what if, instead of trying to change the past, we could use it as a springboard to create a better future? With that in mind, my guest on this episode is Alexia Vernon, transformational speaking and women’s leadership expert, coach, and author of Step Into Your Moxie. Having overcome childhood sexual abuse, Alexia is outspoken about owning her past without letting it define her. Tune in as Alexia shares her wisdom around: The role of forgiveness in moving on from those experiences The difference between forgiving and forgetting The importance of self-care and laughter in healing from trauma What you can do when you stop trying to change the past, and start owning it “We can’t predict when an old wound will open. But knowing that we do have the tools and we have the history to look back and say, I’ve been resilient before, I can be resilient again, allows us to get through things a little bit more easily.” Alexia, I can’t thank you enough for everything you shared, both on the podcast and in your interview for my book. For those of you eager for more of Alexia’s insights, I’m excited to announce that my book is officially available for preorder! Can I admit a little secret to you? I was terribly shy as a child. Like, ‘hide in my closet, don't make eye contact, struggle to speak up and talk to anyone' shy. I was perfectly content playing with my Cabbage Patch dolls and journaling by flashlight, with the accordion doors of my closet closed tight. With the outside world shut out, I was ‘safe.' I remember having a profound turning point, around age 12. One day, I heard a whisper in my ear that said, “is this the life you want for yourself? It's time for a change.” And I made the choice… I took one bold step forward and started to speak up, make friends, and find my voice. My special guest would call that MOXIE. Alexia Vernon, shares her secrets about how to step into your ‘moxie' to become an influencer. As Alexia says, “It's time to let go of the stories we are carrying around about who we are” and discover your true moxie once again. In this episode, you will learn: What it means to ‘step into your moxie' & why (some) women struggle to speak up and/or step into the spotlight What the difference is between fear and ‘a sensation' - and how to work through both How to build resilience as a business leader, handling those ‘bum-bum biting moments.' Alexia shares insight on how listening to your intuition can help How to ‘Go for the Holy Yes' when it comes to sales, and how that's the secret to winning bigger clients How to prepare for a tricky conversation with your team and how to prepare for a Facebook Live video or live talk Alexia was such a delight to chat with. She is forever championing women like us to speak up for themselves about issues that matter. When we do this—together as a collective helping one another—we each amplify our voices, our visibility and our influence in the world. Remember - we are better together, alone serves no one. #DoTheThing! Show notes available with all LINKS mentioned here: https://thesimplifiers.com/podcast/047-alexia-vernon

Alexia Vernon is a transformational speaker and leadership coach for women who is also author of the book Step Into Your Moxie. She says, "Whether I am keynoting a conference, leading a Spotlight speaker coaching program or delivering my Step into Your Moxie® curriculum onsite at an organization, my work is showing entrepreneurs, business leaders, consultants and change makers how to fall (back) in love with their voices, unapologetically speak up and out on stages." But getting to this point of teaching women how to use their own voices was a journey for Alexia -- because she had to learn how to fall in love with her own first, which wasn't always easy. On this episode of the Support is Sexy podcast, Alexia shares important insight on how you can fall in love with your voice, create a message that's unique to you and learn how to make speaking a part of your business.

Alexia has committed her life to show women how to “step into their moxie®” and has delivered transformational keynotes and corporate training for Fortune 500 companies, college campuses, professional associations, the United Nations, and delivered a TEDx talk on the future of feminism. Alexia understands what it’s like to be terrified to speak and shares practical ways to shift this fear. She discusses her own experiences of using her voice and what it means to connect with others in a way that inspires change. Alexia presents a soul-stirring call to action for women to speak up for themselves, their ideas, and the issues that matter most to them.        Alexia gives a glimpse into her struggle with finding her own voice.   Alexia shares how she learned to shift fear and step into greatness. Alexia explains the benefits of role-playing and preparing for public speaking. Giovanna talks about the differences between being prepared and winging it. Alexia discusses why visibility is a responsibility and not just an opportunity. Alexia explains how visibility helps us connect with others more, even if you don’t have a huge platform. Alexia shares how she cultivates her own voice and message. Alexia discusses the difference in focusing on the source of an issue instead of the symptoms. Alexia talks about point of view and how to hone in on what message you want to share. If you’re not a little disruptive, you’re not helping others have a profound shift in their life. Alexia explains compassionate confidence and unapologetically speaking your truth. Giovanna and Alexia emphasize the need for responsible communication. If what you choose to speak about aligns with your values, and you’d be out of integrity by playing it safe and small, be ready to rise through discomfort and rise into leadership.   Memorable Quotes: Learn to be with discomfort. Use meditation and powerful visualizations to enjoy and be grateful for experiences that make you nervous. When a lot of people saying something similar, it’s a sign that the world needs that message.     Would you rather be liked or would you prefer to have impact? When we are in our truth, those who really need us will raise their hands and those in our communities will show up more powerfully.   We are fortunate that we can have a voice and that we can step out and speak up.     Resources Mentioned: Alexia Vernon’s Website Alexia’s Book: Step into Your Moxie

Moxie For Self TransformationAlexia Vernon - In this age of women's empowerment, as ever increasing numbers of women are finding their voices and daring to take a stand for themselves and their causes. The publication of  https://amzn.to/2TcQqKZ (Step Into Your Moxie: Amplify Your Voice, Visibility, and Influence in the World ) (New World Library, October 16, 2018), by speaking and leadership coach Alexia Vernon, couldn't be more perfectly timed. Through her coaching and training programs and extensive speaking engagements, Alexia was dubbed a “Moxie Maven” by the Obama White House Office of Public Engagement for her robust approach to empowering women. She has helped tens of thousands of individuals speak with power and impact at work and in business, with their friends and family, onstage, on camera, and above all, to themselves. In https://amzn.to/2TcQqKZ (Step into Your Moxie), she distills the communication discoveries she has made throughout her dynamic career into simple, effective, and practical recommendations women can use to experience deep and lasting transformation in all facets of their communication. You'll love her - she's on it with helpful, practical insights! Photo by https://unsplash.com/photos/flEStjHTY14?utm_source=unsplash&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=creditCopyText (Leio McLaren (@leiomclaren)) on https://unsplash.com/search/photos/courage?utm_source=unsplash&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=creditCopyText (Unsplash) She Sets A Moxie Example"Moxie is a mindset, heart set, and skill set that you can develop because I was most definitely not born with it. During the first quarter of my life, I experienced an on-again-off-again relationship — with my voice. One moment I felt like I was tap-dancing on eggshells, striving to be liked, give the right answers, and not be called out for failing to be enough of whatever I conjectured other people wanted me to be. Then at other times, often close to those former times, I had an insufferable need to be recognized and praised for my achievements. I knew I was born to make a significant, positive impact on the world, but only later I learned how to redirect away from thinking about what other people were thinking of me. Now my thoughts drive directly to the objective - the impact that I want to make. In the past most of the time when I spoke my voice quavered, I used diminishing words and body language, and my speaking did not move people to take action." Why Moxie Now?"While shopping Step into Your Moxie to publishers, some of the feedback I received was, 'I'm not sure women's empowerment or citizens' marches and protests will still be a thing by the time the book comes out.' Then, while writing the book, #MeToo and #TimesUp happened, millions of Americans continued to march on behalf of #BlackLivesMatter, #MarchForOurLives, and #KeepFamiliesTogether, and the world changed. However, while women have marched and spoken up and out on behalf of themselves and others, it's one thing to go to a rally or broadcast your views in an angry (or empowering) social media post. It's an altogether different thing to tell yourself, and believe, that you possess the power and ability to advocate for yourself — especially if you are in an environment, professionally or personally, in which the people around you are complicit in maintaining the status quo. Media outlets such as CNN, PBS, and Inc. predicted that 2018 would be 'the year of the woman,' but how many of us really feel like we have the moxie we need to consistently speak up, tell our truth, and create the future we want for ourselves and our loved ones? In Step into Your Moxie, I give women a pathway to cultivate their power so they can use it to speak up for themselves and the issues and causes that matter most to them. As I say in the book when you step into your moxie, it is an act of divine service to yourself—and also to the world."...

In our “Unlock the Mystery” series, we're opening up the conversation about exactly how people make their money and where they struggle to help you get to the root of your relationship with money and reach your own earning potential. When I use my voice I give other people permission to use theirs... when I ask for the money I'm worth I make it easier for other women to ask for the money that they are worth. -Alexia Vernon As this week's guest points out during our interview, everything has a communication component. It's a huge advantage to be able to clearly articulate when it comes to any goal— particularly when it comes to finances and negotiation. Ask for what you want. Get what you're worth. We're so excited to have Alexia Vernon join us to talk about using your voice, and how it ties into your relationship with money. Alexia is the author of Step into Your Moxie: Amplify Your Voice, Visibility, and Influence in the World and creator of The Spotlight Speaker Accelerator and Spotlight Speakers Collective speaker coaching programs. She was dubbed a "Moxie Maven" by President Obama’s White House Office of Public Engagement for her potent approach to women’s empowerment, and has delivered transformational keynotes and corporate training for Fortune 500 companies and professional associations, spoken at the United Nations, and delivered a TEDx talk on the future of feminism. A sought-after women’s speaking and leadership coach, Alexia teaches her clients how to use public speaking to grow their businesses and amplify their thought leadership, honing in on the "big idea" that is center to their work so they can create their signature talk that garners visibility in front of their ideal clients. Listen in as Alexia discusses: why women struggle with talking about money and asking for what we want her conversations with her young daughter about using her voice tips for asking your worth during negotiation when it's to your advantage to stay silent the process of signing her book deal for her book how to step into your moxie when it comes to finances as a whole, so that you can achieve a healthy relationship with your money We need opportunities to flex those disruptive muscles so that when we get into a position where suddenly success is predicated on advocating for our self, advocating for more money, it's not the first time we're trying to do that for ourselves. How are you enjoying the Unlock the Mystery series? We'd love to hear your feedback! How are you feeling about yourself these days?   I always find that as the months countdown and the year begins to pack up its things and leave, I start to get mad at myself for all the things i didn’t accomplish and all of the things I wasted time on instead.   Today’s episode is all about that voice in your head - the one telling you that you’re not good enough, worry enough, or even “ready” enough to speak up for things, chase after success, or take charge of projects that sometimes you doubt you can handle.   This week’s guest is Alexia Vernon, she’s a public speaker, coach, and the author of the book: Step Into Your Moxie.   We chat about: *What to do when you struggle with wanting everyone to like you. *How our communication determines our outcomes in professional and personal situations *How to flip the switch on our self talk *How to deal with nerves and body language when we are in situations that make us feel uncomfortable *The power of slowing our exhales and taking up space with our bodies *How to deal with the critic inside of your head   “Worry less about people liking you and more about them respecting you.”   “Everything happens for you not to you.”

Have you ever felt like you were tap dancing on eggshells - striving to be liked, give the right answers, and not be called out for failing to be enough of whoever others wanted you to be? My hunch is, even if you answered yes, you may also have experienced a competing desire - to put yourself and your ideas out into the world in a big way. You know you were put here to say big things. To do big things. You want to be seen, you want to make impact, and that often feels scary. One of my biz besties, Alexia Vernon, knows this tension firsthand. Even as she built a successful career as a professional speaker and speaking coach, she experienced an on-again, off-again relationship… with her own voice. … despite presenting transformational keynotes and corporate trainings for Fortune 500 companies, speaking at the United Nations, delivering a TEDx talk, and being featured on CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, Forbes.com, and tons more. In today’s episode, we talk about what it means to “Step Into Your Moxie” - the title of her brand new book. Lex has committed her life to showing women how to develop the mindset, skillset, and behaviors to unapologetically speak their truth and have their communication move people to take action. In today’s episode, we jam on quieting the inner critic that inevitably arises you as put yourself out there for visibility opportunities and how to have unshakeable presence when you’re being a messenger for your brand.   Deeper support from me: I have 1 opening for my VIP Messaging Package. The grand prize was a free ticket to attend a public speaking intensive for women leaders hosted by Alexia Vernon in Las Vegas.  And I won! And thus began my love affair with Alexia (Lex) Vernon, who is a big-hearted, brilliant, ambitious woman on a mission to help women step into their moxie and share their voices powerfully from any stage. Lex has built a successful speaking and training career, as well as being an author with a new book coming out later this year, by really using courageous storytelling to make a difference in her community and beyond. I LOVED chatting with her on today’s show and I know you’ll get a ton out of it as well. We talk about: What is MOXIE and how you can have more of it Moving from total humiliation to powerful public speaking Managing your fear so it doesn’t stop you from speaking effectively Women’s leadership and becoming the breadwinner Postpartum depression and how she moved through it More about Lex and her work: Branded a “Moxie Maven” by the White House Office of Public Engagement, Alexia Vernon has dedicated her life to empowering women to speak with moxie on stage, at work and in their personal lives. As a speaking coach, she leads the Spotlight Speakers Collective, numerous virtual speaking training programs, and she consults with companies looking to develop a strong female leadership pipeline. Alexia has inspired many audiences: Fortune 500 companies like Zappos and MGM Resorts, associations like INBOUND and the National Association of REALTORS®, and she had the honor of addressing the UN during the Commission on the Status of Women. Her book Step into Your Moxie will be published by New World Library (Fall 2018). Alexia is facilitating a FREE, LIVE virtual workshop on January 11, 2018 – from 10:00-11:30am PST.  You can sign up HERE Discover Your ‘Secret Sauce’ as a Speaker   So You Can Create the Presentations You Were Born to Give and Get Booked Over and Over Again to Deliver Them! I'm not carrying around a story in my head that I'm busy, I don't have enough time, that I'm unhappy. I'm choosing to bring the energy to everything of “I have time, I have space, this is what I have chosen, and thank you more please.”   – Alexia Vernon On this episode of the Plan Simple Meals Podcast, I'm so excited to talk with Alexia Vernon. She's somebody I know outside of this show, and she's the person behind any reason that I stand on a stage with any amount of confidence. She helps people get over their fear of public speaker to stand in their own spotlight. She's also the mom to a 3 ½ year old. We start out talking about balance. To me it seems like Alexia is doing the dance of the ebb and flow of time between family and work. She says that things adjust seasonally, though what she is doing now isn't what she was doing a year ago or will be doing a year from now. Right now, she's in the midst of a shift as she works on a book. And that shifting and morphing isn't new. When her daughter was born, she moved from a very travel-intensive business to an online business that worked better with her life. I love seeing how different people make things work. We talk about: the problem of underestimating the help you need how the self-care we choose and fit in can change in different seasons of our life not getting stuck in our stories reverse engineering timelines for goals having a day during the week when you don't work making simple meals BIO Alexia Vernon is the go-to expert for helping TEDx speakers, entrepreneurs, executives, online experts, business professionals, educators, and creatives get over their fear of public speaking and deliver their spotlight talks. A motivational speaker focused on heart-centered and high impact communication, values-driven leadership, and women's empowerment, Alexia not only cultivates the voices of thought leaders, she is one. LINKS www.hotshotspeaker.com Spotlight Speakers Salon on Facebook Find Alexia on social media @AlexiaVernon Doable Changes from this episode: WRITE DOWN HOW LONG THINGS TAKE. A lot of us underestimate how long thing take to do right. That means we get frustrated because we don't get things done in time or our schedules get off as we scramble to finish. Try taking notes on how long it really takes to do something. Use this the next time you are planning. STOP SAYING I'M BUSY. Busy can be a state of mind. If you are too busy, it may be time to take something out—or it may be time to change your mind. If you really want to be doing everything you are doing, stop saying you are busy. Say, “I have time. I have space. I choose this.” See if that shifts things for you. MAKE SIMPLE MEALS. Meals don't have to be complicated or fancy to be healthy and tasty. Pick a few things that you can repeat again and again. Meals that don't have a lot of prep—like Alexia's salmon with coconut aminos, brown rice, and veggies—make getting dinner on the table less stressful so you can enjoy dinner time more. REALLY getting healthy as a family can be a big lifestyle change. But no matter how insurmountable it may feel, focusing on one doable change at a time can help you take small steps toward your big goal. A healthy lifestyle is really made of lots of little things that when repeated regularly and added together over time make a huge impact on your life. Choose one Doable Change every Sunday night — one thing that you are willing to play with for the week. The key is to keep it doable and fun! Write that thing on a sticky note or your phone so you remember it. Then put 3 things on your calendar that support it. Choose from the changes above or download a list of 101 Doable Changes we made for you. http://plansimplemeals.com/101-doable-changes/ If you are as psyched as I am to grow veggies on a patio this summer and indoors all winter, you are going to want to check this out! I have watched friends have these for years, and am so excited to have my own! (Psssst… There are amazing curriculums that have been created by the company, to make these a no brainer for schools too!) 65 Six Q’s to Determine Why You’re Not Getting Clients

You’ve been checking off all the marketing tasks you were told to do. But after six months of disappointing results, you’re wondering what the heck is going on. Why aren’t you getting clients?! That’s the question this podcast season of Unforgettable has attempted to answer. Beyond interviewing experts like Stefanie Frank, Alexia Vernon, and Amanda Berlin, I’ve also chatted with new coaches and entrepreneurs about their experiences going from confused to clear. And from clear to finally getting clients. Plus, I’ve gotten on my soapbox a handful of times to talk about stuff like why using the “right” words in your message doesn’t really matter and how flowery language is hurting your business.I know you’re more than capable of filling your calendar with ideal clients. So my job is to make sure you have the tools so you can do that easily and effectively. That’s why today’s episode gives you one final tool to use before next season. In it, I ask six questions to help you figure out why you’re not getting clients. Together, we’ll narrow in on what’s stopping ideal clients from paying you. You might be surprised by your answers, and I hope they lead you to solutions that have been closer than you realized. Six Q’s 1. Has your message evolved in the past 6 months? How has it evolved? 2. Have you slipped back into talking about your tools versus the problem you solve? This is the time to reset that. 3. Where are you using flowery language? Are you saying exactly what you mean, being clear instead of clever? 4. Where might you be over-communicating? 5. Have you been scared to niche down? If you could niche down to be a little more specific, what might it look like? 6. In what areas have you been overthinking your message and letting perfectionism keep you from moving forward or putting yourself out there? What to Do Now: The season may be over, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways for me to support you. Here are a few free ways we can hang out during the break: 1) Join the Unforgettable Facebook group. - This group is for coaches and solopreneurs seeking feedback on the message behind their brands and offerings. Join here. 2) Get regular updates. - If you want to know when the next season airs, make sure you’re subscribed to the email list. You can sign up here. 3) Have a clarity call with me. - If you’re feeling lost and aren’t sure what your next step should be to start getting clients, sign up for a free clarity call with me. I’ll mention how we can work together, but there are no strings attached. Book your free call here. And if you’re ready to do more focused, intentional work with me, here are a couple of ways we can work together: 1) Join the next round of Get Clear, Get Clients. - I run this virtual group program throughout the year for a select group of entrepreneurs who want to stop struggling to get clients. Find out when the next round is happening and read more details here. 2) Join the Fun & Fierce Coach Program. - Many new coaches give up when they’re just inches away from the tools that could lead them to success. Instead of struggling to get clients and offering your services for free, the Fun & Fierce Coach Program offers a 3-step system that will allow you to focus, remove the overwhelm and do exactly what is needed to take your coaching biz from feeling like a hobby to actually having clients pay you so you can finally begin helping people...and having FUN while doing it. Read more details here. It was so much fun sharing all of my favorite tips and tools with you! Thanks for being a listener this season. :) XO,

That’s the question my guest today answers on the Unforgettable Podcast. That’s right, I’m bringing on Alexia Vernon, the woman who helped me gain the level of message clarity that got me ready for a TEDx talk. “Most people are in their business because they’ve had a moment or maybe a series of events that started a chain reaction moving them towards how it is that they’re serving their audience.” – Alexia Vernon Announcements: Alexia’s cart opened today for her Your Spotlight Talk – check it out here (I’m an affiliate because I used this exact digital program to create and perform my TEDx talk, and I’m a true believer in her work!) How her own message and the work she does with clients has evolved over time and what she wishes she’d known earlier Her favorite way to have clients test out material to see what connects with their audiences Why starting with your story is key to finding your true “why” (and how to go about that!) Links from this episode: Alexia’s free Hotshot video training series FYH #23 Run Live Workshops Without Overwhelm with Alexia Vernon FYH #7 Healthy Launching & Speaking with Mamapreneur Alexia Vernon I designed this worksheet as a supplement to this interview, because I know how many new entrepreneurs feel overwhelmed and confused about what it is that they really do. After completing this worksheet, you’ll have a deeper understanding of what’s driven you to choose the line of work that you’re currently in and you’ll more clearly see the threads that tie everything together. Episode Insights: “For a lot of people their businesses grow based on what shows up — and sometimes, that can be a beautiful thing, sometimes people see things for us that we could have never seen for ourselves — but other times, people see things in us because we just don’t know who we are yet and that projection can keep us stuck because we’re playing to who we think people want us to be rather than who we’re really in the process of becoming.” – Alexia Vernon “I wish I would have known that I didn’t have to figure out all of my messaging from the get-go, which might sound totally counterproductive, like why would you do things wrong and then pivot?, but I think that if I hadn’t tried to force myself into a box and I just played around a little bit more, I might have found my answer sooner rather than feeling like I had to double down in one direction and then develop all of these things in that one direction too quickly, which then made it harder to pivot.” – Alexia Vernon READ ALL THE INSIGHTS IN THE FULL TRANSCRIPT HERE.

Behind the scenes of how I took care of myself the week leading up to my TEDx Talk, a huge pivotal event in my life. So often when we have a big launch, speaking gig or other major event coming up, we somehow stop taking care of ourselves right at the moment we need it most… The moment we need to feed our hustle. I’m not saying I did a perfect job (because you know I’m about balance not perfection), but I want to be transparent and share with you what emotions and challenges came up for me and how I consciously fed my hustle with food and self care during what has been one of the most MAJOR events in my business. On this episode of the Feed Your Hustle Podcast, I interview Alexia Vernon, a masterful speaking trainer, new mama, and entrepreneur with a laundry list of accomplishments. We talk about how she balanced her latest major launch with her husband away and no nanny, plus the 3 critical healthy habits she’s implementing for her next launch. AND we jammed on specific healthy habits for powerful public speaking, whether it be on-stage, webinars, or interviews. Branded a “Moxie Maven” by the White House for her unique approach to developing women’s voices, through her Step Into Your Moxie platform she has become the go-to expert for helping TEDx speakers, entrepreneurs, executives, online experts, business professionals, educators, and creatives get over their fear of public speaking and deliver their spotlight talks. A motivational speaker focused on heart-centered and high impact communication, values-driven leadership, and women’s empowerment, she not only cultivates the voices of thought leaders through programs like Your Spotlight Talk or her intensive MasterTreats for transformational speakers, she is one. She has scored face time with hundreds of corporate, conference, and college audiences with her keynote speeches and interactive trainings, and she is founder of the Las Vegas-based women’s leadership training program, Influencer Academy. As the co-organizer and co-host of Las Vegas’ TEDxFremontEastWomen, she possesses a unique understanding of the TED speaking style and what organizers are looking for in prospective speakers. Alexia Vernon has TONS of street cred when it comes to coaching speakers and getting PR, as well as organizing super fancy TedX events. However I DIDN’T know that she recently had a little bambino, or that the after effects of postpartum depression were nearly crippling. In this episode, learn why most of us are hiding, how she found her purpose and how babies and business CAN mix once you have the right tools.
