Our story begins in 1985 in a quaint Serbian village, where Đorđe, a farmer, was out in his field tending to the soil. According to Đorđe, he was minding his own business when a group of ethnically Albanian men attacked him and, in an act of inexplicable cruelty, forced a beer bottle in his anus. His story made headlines, and Đorđe found himself at the center of a political maelstrom. In a twist that no one saw coming, his case became a symbol of come Cold War Politicians who led the way to ethnic tensions and ethnic cleansing. He became a folk hero of sorts. In local taverns, over glasses of rakija, people would toast to the man who brought a beer bottle to a political knife fight. His name became synonymous with resilience, absurdity, and cultural identity. But unfortunately, unfortune just so happened to rear its unfortunate head and the truth of Đorđe's story started to come out. Were there really two shadowy men with a penchant for penetration? Or was Đorđe too embarrassed to admit that he was a dirty little birdy?

Every now and then, I hear a quirky little story pop up via one of my craft beer news feeds. Often the stories are from overseas, so getting the newsmaker onto the podcast is a little difficult, but not so this time.A few weeks back, I got a ping with this headline:The Best Place For Craft Beer In L.A. is a Gas Station in Pasadena...I was like, whaaaat? We can't even sell beer in Australian petrol stations, so how could one in LA be touted so highly? And I thought, bugger it, I'm gonna have a crack and reach out to the owner and see if they wanna have a chat about it with me.And he said yes!I will let Replicant Shell founder Shibli Haddad fill you in...*********************************If you want to check out Replicant Shell, go here: Replicant Shell.Want to help spread the craft beer gospel?• Follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube• Rate, Review and Subscribe on Apple Podcasts or Spotify...click the link on your phone and scroll to the bottom• Or Follow/Subscribe on your favourite podcast player

Airing from 1933 – 1939, Calling All Cars is an old-time radio police drama examining cases that had been handled by the Los Angeles Police Department. A typical episode began by relating the facts of a particular crime, then introducing individuals who were associated with the case. A dramatization followed, climaxing in the arrest of the criminal. The outcome of a trial wrapped up the story. A guy in Florida taunted police during an armed standoff by smashing a beer bottle over his own head last weekend. But unfortunately, one of the cops couldn't see the bottle, just the gun he was holding. So they thought the breaking sound was a GUNSHOT and returned fire. He got hit in the NECK, but survived.

Her fascinating real life stories titled Silas and the Beer Bottle, Death by Cop and Bloody Snow, are lessons of building influence by trusting oneself, seeking hope and understanding that things are not always as they seem. Terryl highlights the influence of stories you tell yourself and others, sharing “Most people, including myself, underestimate our stories.”Terryl Cadwell is an adjunct professor for both the University of South Dakota and the University of Sioux Falls coordinating criminal justice practicums for upper level college students and teaching policing and corrections in a “smart” classroom setting. In this episode, I’ll have a conversation with Kris Miles, the co-owner of the Winston Ale House and The Winston Brewery, both in North Hobart, Tasmania. When Kris and his wife Caroline’s local pub went up for sale, they couldn’t pass on the opportunity to snap it up. After working in hospitality for many years, the desire to open their own venue could no longer be ignored. Combining Caroline’s yearning for American comfort food with Kris’ vision to open a brewery, the duo embarked on their first venue. They found a name in Winston, their beloved pet dog whose friendly and sociable nature set the tone for what they wanted the venue to become. The couple purchased the spot and transformed it into an art-deco space, imbuing it with a warm and casual atmosphere. They started by opening the Eatery, offering a fantastic American menu and 12 rotating taps. In 2016 they expanded the offering with the addition of the Winston Brewing Company, allowing Kris to indulge his wildest beer-related fantasies and serve brews that can’t be found elsewhere. At the brewery, Kris experiments with hoppy styles, using Tasmanian hops and barrel-aging techniques. In 2020, they are opening a dry food and craft bottle shop to their very busy bar and moving the brewery within a few hundred meters with a taproom. With around 13 full-time team members they grew around 20% each year, and sales have been growing steadily in recent years. They have funded the business solely from savings and putting profits back into the business. The bar is always busy and a testament to how one can turn around a dead venue with nothing but a good vision, great team, training, and offering something different to the market. Tune in to hear how sticking to your model, being open and honest about what you want to do and offer the market, and not overthinking things can help you grow your business. This Cast Covers: How Kris and his wife took the plunge to stop working for other people and start the Alehouse and brewery. Their North American inspired foods and craft beers from all over the world. Working in the business as a couple and how that helps them in separating their personal and business lives. Sustaining a 20% growth rate by working a lot of hours to keep the wage cost down and have money to keep reinvesting. The foolproof bootstrapping strategy that enabled them to avoid debt and external funding. How opening the brewery became the most stressful point in his small business growth journey. Enabling the employees to feel invested in the business by educating them and taking them on craft brewery tours. The unpredictability of managing the growth of the business and how difficult it was to plan for it. Getting better at managing their money and being more financially organized. The number one habit Kris thinks a small business owner should develop and maintain. How they added people to their team and the lessons they learned. Discouraging toxicity among employees to build a great culture. Investing in professional development by learning something new every day. The detriment of overthinking things to the growth of a small business. The power of having a good accountant and the long term value it offers in terms of business growth. On the dial between Country music and Americana, the music of A LITTLE BIT MORE leans closer to the country side of things but as the moniker of the duo suggests, there is "a bit more" to the story. JILL HAMLIN fell in love with the piano at age three and quickly developed into a musical prodigy which had culminated into studying music abroad and earning a degree in the not-so-prolific field of ethnomusicology. According to HAMLIN her degree "...is another way of saying you'll never have a real job." REED FIELDS honed his writing and his rather fine voice in numerous country and rock bands over the years until a chance meeting with HAMLIN led to the formation of their musical partnership which sees the light of day on their glorious new release SILHOUETTES. FIELDS' rustic croon compliments the angel-in-flight vocals of HAMLIN over an inspired set of songs that celebrate the highs and lows of love and life. The songs GOOD HABIT, IF ONLY FOR A MOMENT and BEER BOTTLE only prove that this partnership knows what they're talking about when it comes ot matters of the heart but that doesn't mean they're afraid of taking on an issue like substance abuse as they do on the haunting WHERE I AM.CHECK OUT THE PODCAST AT:http://www.rockwired.com/temporarysite/rockwiredprofiles695.mp3

On the off chance that a bottle opener is not around but a carabiner is. Daniel Duane opens a bottle of beer with a piece of rock-climbing equipment.
