Many Americans do not fully know the faith-filled story behind the nation’s origins. In today's prayer and devotional, Lynette Kittle shares how long before the United States existed, a small group of Christian separatists—the Pilgrims—risked everything to worship Jesus freely and to practice their faith without fear. Their journey, grounded in prayer, Scripture, and dependence on God, laid a foundation that ultimately influenced the birth of a nation built on biblical principles. Seeking to follow Christ according to their convictions, the Pilgrims left England due to persecution and later departed Holland when secular influences threatened their children’s faith. Their bold voyage across the Atlantic in 1620 was not a pursuit of comfort but a pursuit of the freedom to worship God in truth and sincerity. America’s early identity was shaped through this legacy of faith, humility, and thanksgiving. Even before our nation was formed, colonial leaders called for days of prayer, fasting, and gratitude to God. Later, Presidents Washington, Adams, and Madison continued this practice, acknowledging that national blessings flow from the hand of Almighty God. Eventually, Thanksgiving became a national holiday through the persistence of Sarah Josepha Hale, who believed a national day of gratitude was a “pledge of Christian faith in God.” Today, the same call remains: remember what God has done, give Him thanks, and pray for America to remain anchored in His truth. Today's Bible Reading:“Give praise to the Lord, proclaim His name; make known among the nations what He has done.” – Psalm 105:1 Takeaway Truths America’s earliest foundations were shaped by believers seeking freedom to worship God. Thanksgiving has deep Christian roots tied to prayer, humility, and national gratitude. God calls His people to remember His works and proclaim His faithfulness to the nations. We can pray for America to return to biblical truth and godly leadership. Let’s Pray Dear Father,We lift our voices to praise and thank You for America. We acknowledge that it was Your hand that guided the Pilgrims to a new land where they could worship Christ freely. Thank You for establishing this nation on godly principles and granting us the blessing of religious liberty. Remind us this Thanksgiving of the believers who trusted You enough to leave everything behind for the sake of Your glory. Strengthen and restore America’s spiritual foundation. Lead our nation’s leaders to return to Your Word, Your truth, and Your righteousness. Above all, thank You for the gift of Salvation through Jesus Christ—undeserved, unearned, and freely given. May our hearts remain humble and full of gratitude for all You have done. In Jesus’ name, Amen. A mother in need turned to local churches for baby formula assistance after SNAP benefits lapsed, only to be rejected by dozens of wealthy congregations who cited her 'woke' identity markers (lesbian, veteran) as cause for smear campaigns instead of offering help. We expose the devastating hypocrisy of tax-exempt organizations who would rather let children starve than fulfill their supposed mission to the vulnerable. When religious leaders call a mother trying to feed her starving infant a "demon" and wish death upon her, they prove themselves to be the organized criminal organization we suspect them to be.News Source:Uncharitable Churches Exposed by Mom in NeedBy Cassandra Stone for mom.comNovember 7th, 2025

Wilberforce, Clarkson, Wesley. Britain's great abolitionist activist Granville Sharp. Each of these consequential figures of the eighteenth-century Atlantic world were galvanized by the moral power of a modest Quaker teacher who never ventured more than a few miles from his home in Philadelphia: Anthony Benezet. While Benezet was buried in an unmarked grave, his fingerprints are all over the extinction of the Atlantic slave trade and the gathering strength of America's own burgeoning abolitionist movement. He was a figure of global importance, “a saint,” Garry Wills called him, a great bearer to the rest of the world of the American ideals (no matter how compromised) of equality and liberty.Anthony Benezet lived, by chance, at the nexus of radical Christianity and revolutionary democracy, and he fused the power of those two streams of morality in a way that changed lives and challenged political institutions so compellingly that the world became a different place because of him. But for all the magnitude of Benezet's impact, he is largely unknown outside scholars of the period. He does not exist in any meaningful way in the widely read histories and biographies that define and amplify America's historical consciousness. In Anthony Benezet: Quaker, Abolitionist, Anti-Racist (U Georgia Press, 2025), preeminent biographer Dr. David Chanoff tells Benezet's story—who he was, what he did, how he did it, and why it was that William Penn's “Holy Experiment” of Pennsylvania provided the matrix for the historic transformation the abolitionist educator brought about. Indeed, Dr. Chanoff carves out a place for this forgotten American hero as a pioneering figure among those who launched American ideals onto the world stage. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. The Tikvah Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 21, 2025 51:27

This episode of the Tikvah Podcast might be the first dedicated entirely to Christian theology. Why would a Jewish podcast devote so much attention to a theological debate that took place among Christians in the 2nd century? First, because it contributed to the canonization of Christian scripture and defined forever the Christian attitude toward the Hebrew Bible. But more importantly, because we are witnessing today the reemergence of some of the very ideas that the Church fathers of that time declared heretical. The figure at the center of this conversation is a Christian thinker name Marcion, who lived from 85 to 160 CE. He taught that there were not one but two gods: the creator God of the Hebrew Bible—a violent, vengeful, tribal demiurge—and the true God that is revealed to humankind by Jesus. To Marcion, the Christian God alone is a God of love and mercy. Therefore, he concluded, Christianity should detach itself entirely from the Hebrew Bible. Most people have heard some version of the idea that the Hebrew God is vindictive, unforgiving, and particularistic, and that the Christian God teaches grace and mercy. But the notion that they're radically distinct has now returned. The prominent Internet talk-show host Tucker Carlson has spoken on numerous occasions about disconnecting the Hebrew Bible from the New Testament. On the August 25, 2025 episode of his show, he explained that he had just read what Christians called the Old Testament and "was pretty shocked by—as I think many people who read it are—by the violence in it, and shocked by the revenge in it, the genocide in it." Then, in conversation with Megyn Kelly on November 6, he said that "Western civilization is derived from the New Testament. It is based on Christian ethics. And the core difference between the West and the rest of the world—not just Israel but every other country—is that we don't believe in collective punishment because we don't believe in blood guilt." It's important to draw a distinction between Marcionism and the doctrine of supersessionism, historically accepted by some Christian theologians. Supersessionism claims that God's covenant with Israel has been replaced, or superseded, by the universal redemption brought about by Jesus. Marcion, by contrast, says something else: that the God who established a covenant with the children of Israel is not the same as the Christian God at all, but a lesser, wicked deity. The idea that the Hebrew Bible and the Christian New Testament are motivated by different ethics and aim at different moral teachings is not especially controversial. After all, that is a conventional Jewish understanding of the New Testament. But the early church fathers decisively rejected Marcion's ideas: both his dualism and his attempt to remove the story of Israel from the Christian Bible. One, Tertullian, wrote five books refuting him. Another foundational Christian thinker, Irenaeus, declared Marcion a heretic. By rejecting his teachings, Christianity made a defining choice to accept that the God of creation and the God of Christian redemption are, for Christians, one and the same. And because one of the most popular anti-Jewish voices is sounding some of those very notes right now, a deeper, Christian context seems necessary to help Jews understand the nature of the new assault against them. To this end, the Christian philosopher R.J. Snell joins Mosaic's editor Jonathan Silver to explain that context. Snell is the director of academic programs at Princeton University's Witherspoon Institute and the editor in chief of its publication, Public Discourse. He delves into what Marcion believed, why the church rejected him, and what was at stake in that rejection—then and now.

The holiday of Thanksgiving was created for Americans to praise and thank God for our national and individual blessings. But praising and thanking God should not only be done once a year. The Bible reveals that a true Christian's life must be built around expressing sincere gratitude and thanksgiving to God. Understand the critical importance of these two great spiritual building blocks and how to implement them in your life.

Humans have a problem asking for help. We can probably chalk it up to our proud hearts.Often, when we are really up against it, that's when we resist seeking help.Jesus does away with all that.Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”Ask yourself: is my pride keeping me from asking for help? If so, mull that over. And then, take a step toward the Lord and ask for what you need.God opens doors when we ask Him to. And sometimes what we find on the other side isn't what we expected. When that happens, we choose patience, and we remain open to His good plans for us. When you've asked God to help and your prayers are answered, share the Good News with people you meet. Tell anyone who will listen that the Lord of the Universe cared about you and delivered you from a problem no one else could solve. And if the answer He gave was totally unexpected and sent you in a different direction — share that, too. Accepting God's plan when it doesn't match up with our own best-laid plans is what faith is all about.Let's pray. Lord, please give us a heart that seeks you. God, we want to be obedient, and we know that your blessings, whatever they look like, will follow. Thank you. In Jesus' name, amen. Change your shirt, and you can change the world! False teaching has been around in the church almost since its inception. Do you know biblical Christianity well enough to recognize false teaching? Today, on Something Good, Ron shows us how to identify the lie, and challenges us to have the courage to call it out.

In this final part of our Charlie Kirk trilogy, the Burden brothers wrestle with the hardest question yet: Has his influence been better or worse for American society? After two episodes examining his rhetoric and platform, we now face the aftermath of his assassination. Did polarized political discourse create the conditions for this tragedy? What should the church's response have been? And when we weigh all the variables—the conversions, the controversies, the patriotism, the divisiveness—where do we land?Anton, Aaron, and Adrian find surprising agreement on some points and sharp division on others. From soundbite culture to Christian nationalism, from David the warrior to Peter the hothead, this conversation refuses easy answers. One of us separates his verdict into two parts: better for America, questionable for Christianity. The others push back hard.Along the way, we reveal what quote should go on each brother's t-shirt (hint: context is everything), debate whether imperfect people can still be heroes, and reflect on what it means to die with honor in a culture that demands perfection.Key themes:Rhetoric, algorithms, and the polarization greenhouseThe evangelical response to tragedy vs. political opportunityBetter vs. perfect: Can flawed people make kingdom impact?American exceptionalism vs. kingdom-mindednessWhat kind of influence actually honors ChristListen if you've ever asked: "Can we celebrate someone's good without endorsing everything they did?"Season FinaleThanks for Listening!
