Cue up ‘Come Fly With Me' and pour yourself a big ol martini, it's time for a drama set in the golden age of flight! And just like the golden age of flight it was short lived, messy and taken down by the gears of capitalism. It's also our first aviation themed show on an aviation themed podcast! Whoa. So this show honestly falls into the category of “should have been great but oh well” Margot Robbie, Christina Ricci, David Harbour… and a fascination for 50s nostalgia with Mad Men where did it all go wrong? Maggie LePique and Charlie Pignone discuss Platinum which celebrates the 70th Anniversary of Frank Sinatra signing to Capitol Records, a moment that transformed his career and solidified his standing as one of the greatest interpretive singers of all time. From 1953 – 1962, Sinatra recorded more than three hundred songs for Capitol, the majority of them included on the landmark ‘concept' albums Sinatra pioneered. It is arguably the finest body of recorded work in popular music. The 44-track set features a cross-section of his most beloved songs and sought-after rarities. From the swinging “I've Got You Under My Skin” and ebullient “Come Fly With Me” to the breathtaking “Moonlight in Vermont” and torch song “Only The Lonely,” the set also includes previously unreleased tracks culled from the Capitol vaults along with alternate takes, a test track, radio spots and session takes that reveal Sinatra's in-studio artistry.Platinum was curated by Charles Pignone, President of Frank Sinatra Enterprises.Throughout his seven-decade career, Frank Sinatra performed on over 1,400 recordings and was awarded 31 gold, nine platinum, three double platinum, and one triple platinum album by the Recording Industry Association of America. The three-time Oscar® winner also appeared in over 60 films and produced eight motion pictures. Sinatra was awarded Lifetime Achievement Awards from The Recording Academy, The Screen Actors Guild, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), as well as the Kennedy Center Honors, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Congressional Gold Medal. Frank Sinatra demonstrated a remarkable ability to appeal to every generation that continues; his artistry still influences many of today's music superstars. He remains a legend and an inspiration worldwide for his cultural and artistic contributions. He's the star of the iconic Little Britain, Bridesmaids, Come Fly With Me and soon to be seen on the big screen in Wonka. This week we have the one and only Matt Lucas joining us for dinner. Matt has recently written his first children's book and with all his wonderful stories from growing up you can see where all the inspiration comes from! We discovered that he was given his first big break by Bob Mortimer, he's notorious for his very own Chicken Soup recipe (which takes him 36 hours!), his first flat deposit was paid for by a Creme Egg advert and the story of the real life 'Marjorie Dawes' from Weight Watchers is fabulous. Matt, next time you come round we promise to have a Viennetta on ice for you, but you've gotta bring the soup! Matt's children's musical novel ‘The Boy Who Slept Through Christmas' is out now. What a cool day we've had today. We met David Walliams from ‘Little Britain' and ‘Come Fly With Me' – two comedy shows that could never be made these days without being cancelled immediately – in fact I don't even know if there are clips still up on YouTube– probably been gassed by now. But they were hilarious shows. He's also been the judge on ‘Britain's Got Talent' so he's a big name here. But Walliams is probably most known worldwide for his books I think – fabulous author – Gangsta Granny, Billionaire Boy Robo-dog. He's an extremely entertaining children's book author and he very generously gave my daughter some books, he signed them for her and her little brother and sister, he did photos with us, and he was genuinely very funny. He actually just took the piss out of us. He called us ‘a very stylish family' but then he did have a crack at Mike about his ripped jeans. He said Mike reminded him of ‘a Karl Lagerfeld' he said he was ‘wearing clothes designed for a much younger man..' we were in fits. He also said he loved Mike's ‘stylish sunglasses' so they were hitting it off. Then after the interview we walked out to his car with him at which point Mike spotted that his car was one he'd owned before, but David had the new model. So, turns out Walliams is a car guy too, so suddenly he's telling Mike to hop in the car and they're chatting about cars, then he offers us a ride home – given we're only staying a short walk away from the BBC we had to decline that, but what a lovely and hilarious guy. As he drove away he wound down his window and yelled out at us ‘ok then leave me alone now!' so that was a treat. Then we met Graham Norton. Graham Norton we met last time in 2018 when we were here for Harry and Meghan's wedding, and he was so lovely, polite and effusive. Very humble and low key, and still the same today, just such a lovely man. As he arrived and saw us all, he said, ‘gangs all here!' Again very generous doing autographs for Marley, photos, and even participated happily in her BeReal post! Anyway, given he's got a place in New York, I asked him which he preferred. I explained we'd just come from New York, and we couldn't decide if we like London or New York better. He didn't even pause for a beat, “New York”, he said. He was very impressed with Mike's coronation invite and asked if I'd had an invite too, or if Mike could bring a plus one. When Mike explained no it was just him, Graham said, ‘not to be rude, but why you?' We were all so busy laughing I'm not sure what Mike's answer was, but Graham was very excited for him, asking if he could take his phone in, if he was wearing tails, if he would recognise all the heads of state there etc. Anyway two very lovely chatty personable and self-deprecating men, doing amazing work here, and really just topping off a fabulous two weeks in London for us. Exhausting, but fabulous. The boss texted today and said ‘are you ready to come home?' I had to say, nope, I'm not, I'd stay here forever. But the school run and the dog and life as normal awaits, so it's been a blast, it's been a privilege. But it's definitely not goodbye to London, it's see you again soon.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Angela Hagenbach, Acclaimed Jazz Vocalist About Harvey's guest: Today's guest, Angela Hagenbach, is one of America's most popular jazz singers, whose extraordinary 3-octave vocal range, unique phrasing and ebullient singing style make every song she sings truly her own – and very memorable. With her sultry contralto voice, she sings everything from swinging, straightforward jazz and blues to sensual, rhythmic Latin Jazz with effortless agility. She's recorded 6 albums entitled, “Come Fly With Me”, “Feel the Magic”, “Weaver of Dreams”, “Poetry of Love”, “Musa Nova”, and her latest album, “The Way They Make Me Feel”, beautifully produced by the brilliant George Klabin of Resonance Records, who selected some classic songs by Michel Legrand, Henry Mancini and Johnny Mandel. It's been said by more than one music critic – and I agree – that when this woman sings, she has the uncanny ability to turn jazz into a spiritual experience. In 2015 she finished as 1st runner-up at the Sarah Vaughan Jazz Vocal Competition. That same year, she wrote the acclaimed “Jazz Alice: An Adventure in Wonderland”, a musical theatre production based on Lewis Carroll's classic book, set to the music of John Coltrane. She performs regularly at jazz clubs and concert venues in her home town of Kansas City, as well as around the country, and internationally. The renowned jazz historian Scott Yanow listed our guest as one of the greatest jazz singers of all time in his book, “The Great Jazz Singers: The Ultimate Guide”. And if that weren't enough, our guest was TWICE chosen by the US State Department to represent the United States as a Cultural Jazz Ambassador in TWO world tours, starting at the Kennedy Center and performing in 17 countries. FRANK SINATRA. Come Fly with Me, My Way, Fly Me to the Moon...these are all classic songs by an icon that we know and love. We know his films, his albums, we might even know his marriage history, his family and his scandals...but what do we really know about the man himself? FRANK SINATRA is to this day one of the most influential and iconic musicians to grace this planet, and on this week's episode, Alan and Joey are talking to a man that knew him better than most – TONY OPPEDISANO. Tony met Frank back in 1972 and from that fateful night until the day he died, they were inseparable. Tony held many roles in Frank's life: member of his management team, confidant, but most importantly, dear friend. Tony's new and poignant book SINATRA AND ME: IN THE WEE SMALL HOURS, publishes this very week, and Two Guys from Hollywood is giving you an EXCLUSIVE look into his world. This book has been decades in the making - ever since Tony promised Frank that one day he'd right the wrongs said about him in the press, and share the real stories. In this incredible episode, Tony shares inside stories about Frank, their time together, and what it was like to walk, live and drink alongside one of the greatest musicians to ever perform. Tony addresses Frank's career, his marriages, his fears, his dreams, and gives us his opinion on the answer to a highly controversial question: is Ronan Farrow Frank Sinatra's son? From the man who knew all Frank's secrets, you'll have to listen to believe it. Tony is a natural-born storyteller and his memory is extremely sharp, which is why he is the perfect guest for our theme today: Secrets in the Small Hours. So grab a drink, take a seat, and enjoy this trip down memory lane, into a beautiful and - until now - exclusive friendship. This week enjoy the COME FLY WITH ME. Find the full recipe and more on @twoguysfromhollywood on Instagram, and @TGFHPodcast on Twitter and Facebook. Cheers! Reena told us why the BBC were right to make the decision that they made. With all this pressure Magnavox is bought by Philips in 1974 to expand the Dutch company's holdings in the United States. The song I have sent you this week is another from the Cheshire Cats album we talked about last week….which we made back in the day….this song is “The Battle Of New Orleans” and is one I produced for my great mate “Skiffle” John Lomax…..who sadly passed away some time ago….I put the instrumentation together on the record…. John was a member of The Atlantics Skiffle Group who were one of the first in the area…I saw them in 1958 which was the first time I heard an electric guitar….they appeared on “Top Town” and John went on to make films…one featuring the final plight of Donald Campbell which won him an award….this led to a feature by the BBC called “Days Which Changed The World”…in which they used John’s footage and had an actor playing him. In 2001 I put a skiffle group together with him and we went to Finland to perform at a huge convention…..I loved John dearly and miss him very much. I just don’t get why certain so called celebs think they can sing those Rat Pack standards…..Peter Andre has brought out an album with a collection of them…WHY?...his version of “Come Fly With Me” is as bad as it gets…. Robbie Williams brought one out a while back….if they insist on swing music why not get some original stuff….if I want to hear that sort of stuff I’ll listen to Sinatra and his gang….who do it properly. And any day now we will be bombarded with all the stale played out Christmas songs….Kylie has just made a Christmas album of all the songs we are sick of hearing…WHY?....do something ORIGINAL!! I don’t know who puts certain people in positions where they can make major decisions….the latest classic is to turn off the street lighting in certain villages to save money….and…wait for it…they can put the lights on again if the locals pay for it….wait for it….7 PENCE a day each. You couldn’t write this in a comedy show……HELLO…street lighting keeps areas safe doesn’t it?.......oh sorry I forgot…we have to send billions overseas to help other countries…..I despair. The new James Bond film has been heavily covered by the national news….as has Adele’s new record….National News???....I don’t think so…..incidentally Daniel Craig is from Hoylake which is just down the road from me….one of the lads I play golf with knows a lad who went to school with him….said he was a bit of a wimp in school and never did any sport etc….his mate is now a mechanic and Dan is James Bond….how’s that for poetic justice. ……It’s Halloween time and the shops are doing well….I just don’t get Halloween….it was just a bit of duck apple in my day….all this trick and treating is something we ahave aquired from the States…like high fives etc….then we have Bonfire night where loads of kids will get injured….can’t wee the point of fireworks….or am I Mr. Bah Humbug?

This is not the Who's Final Tour. (They always come back.) So maybe it is the Who's Final Tour. Whatever it is, it's Podcast 200, and that's a benchmark. Somehow. So I decided to sum up the two core themes of the last... 100 or so casts, and also tell you something that's blown my mind recently. It's an instance of catatonia by way of Catalonia. Seriously, the two core themes of PZ's Podcast are the durability and necessity of romantic connection; and the presence of God when a person is at the end of his or her rope. 'God meets us at our point of need.' Gosh, I've seen that happen a lot. Not least of all, to me. And I know, too, from Mary -- 'Along Comes Mary' (The Association) -- that the boy-girl side of things is paramount. Nothing above it. Now, for 23 short minutes, Come Fly With Me.
Actor, comedian, and super-attractive kitsch historian Kyle Supley joins Nick and Lars to get in touch with his mechanical side for an episode of the 80's live action sitcom Small Wonder. It's a show about a doofus with the perfect daughter, except she's a robot. But that's not even the point. The real issue at hand is that in this episode, they fly in an airplane that gets hijacked. Also, Emily Schulman plays the iconic neighbor Harriet, and we really want her as a guest on this podcast. SUBSCRIBE on iTunes HERE! Check out "Come Fly With Me," the episode we watched, here! ...and write us emails at letters@breakfastquest.net
Kathryn interviews Beverly Delich, author of “Come Fly With Me: Michael Buble's Rise to Stardom”. Michael Bublé just kicked off his Summer 2014. From the very beginning, deep inside his heart and soul, Michael wanted the brass ring and nothing less, says Delich. Even facing adversity, his desire for a major label and a major management company were the objectives. Come Fly With Me reveals Delich's true behind-the-scenes story of the raw beginnings of Bublé's struggles and the stepping-stones that led to his ascent to the top. Kathryn also interviews Guy Gilchrist, illustrator of the “Nancy & Sluggo” cartoons. Why is nostalgia so big in America? Speaking from firsthand insight is Guy Gilchrist, cartoonist of the iconic, American comic Nancy for the past 20 years. Throughout the years, Gilchrist has set his hand to such notable cartoons as Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, Fraggle Rock and The Pink Panther (to name a few), and was the co-creator of Muppet Babies.

Kirsty Young's castaway this week is James Nesbitt. He is one of our most popular and successful actors and his long list of credits includes Cold Feet, Bloody Sunday, Jekyll and Murphy's Law. In this warm and illuminating interview he recalls his childhood in County Antrim where he grew up in a close-knit, rural community. He was the only boy and the youngest of four children and, when he was told he was 'spoilt', says he always understood that it meant the same as 'loved'. His father was the headmaster of the local primary school and there was an expectation that his children would follow him to become teachers. But James was a keen actor and says it is only now, in his 40s, that he can look back clearly and see he always felt an affinity to being on the stage. The first role he was cast in was as the Artful Dodger in Oliver. It's a character, he jokes, that has stayed with him through many of the roles he has taken on since.[Taken from the original programme material for this archive edition of Desert Island Discs]Favourite track: Come Fly With Me by Frank Sinatra Book: Collected writings by James Lawton Luxury: A bottle of chilled Sancerre for every night.
