The season is done. The trophy is in the cabinet. The top-four finish is banked - literally. And now — with the confetti swept and the open-top bus parked — it's time for the honest debrief. This week's episode is a free-form end of season conversation covering everything from the new 2026-27 home kit to Ollie Watkins' late-season renaissance, from the tipsy final day at Manchester City to the question that will define next season before it has even started: does this summer's transfer window signal genuine ambition or cautious consolidation? There's also the numbers. A set of statistics on Emery's Clipboard that reframes the entire 2025-26 narrative, and they're not entirely comfortable reading despite the trophy and the top-four finish. When you look at how Villa performed against the teams they should be beating, the picture is rather different from the one the league table tells. On pricing, the annual conversation takes a sharper turn. The normalisation of a 5% rise — supporters beginning to treat it as expected — is identified as the real problem, not just the percentage itself. And the summer. What kind of signing changes the trajectory? What does a catalyst look like? Why does it matter for the players already in the building, not just the ones arriving?Europa League winners. Fourth in the Premier League. A UEFA Super Cup against PSG on the horizon. The MOMS end of season conversation has a great starting point.UTVListen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.Check out all the 2026-27 home kit options and new training range, hereBecome a MOMS Member for ad-free & extra shows - MOMS MembershipJoin the show's listener Facebook group The Mad Few.Credits:David Michael - @myoldmansaid | Chris Budd - @BUDD_music / Phillip Shaw - @prsgameThis Podcast has been created and uploaded by My Old Man Said. Palace are European champions! In the biggest game in the club's 120-year history, Oliver Glasner's side delivered a tactical masterclass at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig to lift the UEFA Conference League trophy. It was a night built on defensive grit, immense focus, and a single moment of clinical quality that will be talked about in South London for generations to come. Palace have not only secured their first-ever major silverware but have officially stamped their ticket to next season's Europa League.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/holmesdaleradio. Our very first - and maybe last show - at the Fire Station is now officially in the bag. What a season it was, and we simply had to celebrate it with yourselves at the Fire Station in the heart of Sunderland. Graham, Pete, Ian and Alex were delighted to be joined by former Sunderland promotion winner Carlos Edwards, the Sunderland Echo's Phil Smith and James Copley for a solid two and a bit hours to go through Regis Le Bris' phenomenal 2025/26 season the night before our monumental Europa League clinching win over Chelsea. The final Gameweek review of the season which ended with plenty of drama for FPL managers with Arsenal and Manchester City both going into full rotation mode. Some survived, others thrived. But for Suj and James there was only one survivor, as Tottenham beat Everton to make West Ham's win against Leeds immaterial and they now drop into The Championship. Early discussion on the Podcast focuses on the relegation battle. Bournemouth and Sunderland booked their place in the Europa League whilst Brighton have to make do with Conference League football. The Seagulls were beaten by Manchester United, and footballer of the year Bruno Fernandes claimed the assist record with his 21st of the season... but it wasn't without controversy. All the weekend games overviewed, with some early thoughts for next season, it's goodbye to Pep Guardiola, Mo Salah and others, plus lots more. With Europa League football already secured, AFC Bournemouth travelled to Nottingham Forest on Sunday for what became a celebration of an exceptional campaign - one shaped by an outstanding head coach and driven by ambitious, forward-thinking ownership. For a club that has lived through administrations, points deductions, financial uncertainty and years spent fighting simply to survive… the day at The City Ground served as the climax of what has been emotional and remarkable journey. Sam and Tom re-tell the story of an incredible weekend in the East Midlands, one which allowed fans to experience the highs, whilst remembering the trials and tribulations - and lows - of the past. Dan Bardell and Ty Bracey are in person to reflect on Aston Villa's excellent 25/26 season, finishing 4th and winning the Europa League. They also start to look at how far Villa can go in 26/27/
On this episode of the Joy of Football Podcast, Martin Tyler and Neil Barnett bring the curtain down on the 2025/26 Premier League season with a full club-by-club review of one of the strangest, most dramatic and most revealing campaigns in recent memory. The pair discuss Arsenal F.C. finally ending the season as champions, the beginning of a new era at Manchester City F.C. following Pep Guardiola's departure, and the growing sense that the Premier League is entering a period of major change both on and off the pitch. Neil categorises teams into groups, including the "underachievers", “what's your ambition?”, “back where they belong” and more - leading to debate over clubs whose seasons felt successful, disappointing, confusing or simply directionless. There's discussion about the sides heading into Europe next season, including Manchester United F.C. returning to the Champions League, Sunderland A.F.C. earning a remarkable place in the Europa League, and what European qualification could mean for several clubs trying to establish themselves at the top end of the table. Martin and Neil also reflect on the teams going down, the clubs whose futures suddenly look uncertain, and how Tottenham Hotspur F.C. somehow scraped their way to safety after another chaotic season that raised more questions than answers. There's plenty on the major departures from the league too - players, managers and personalities leaving behind huge legacies after defining the Premier League era for years - as the pair consider whether English football may be about to enter a completely new chapter. Aston Villa are Europa League winners. Three-nil against SC Freiburg on a rain-soaked Wednesday night in Istanbul, that ended in the early hours with a trophy cabinet that finally has something new in it.This post-mortem covers what actually happened — and what it means. From Youri Tielemans' opening volley, which settled every nerve in the ground the moment it hit the corner of the net, to a second-half of focused control. Three picture-perfect strikes. A goalkeeper who broke a finger in the warm-up and played on regardless. A fanbase that spent two seasons fluent in PSR and amortisation getting to remember what football is actually for.The show also gets into the detail: the jeopardy that never quite materialised, the Freiburg threat that had been flagged and was effectively nullified, and the moments where the game could have tilted differently — and didn't. There's a longer conversation about what winning a second major European trophy does to the meaning of the first one, why this squad's achievement is more improbable than it looks on paper, and what the summer now looks like through a completely different lens.Thirty years is a long time to wait. Istanbul was worth it.UTVCover photo courtesy of Paul StringerListen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.Become a MOMS Member for ad-free & extra shows - MOMS MembershipJoin the show's listener Facebook group The Mad Few.Credits:David Michael - @myoldmansaid | Chris Budd - @BUDD_music / Phillip Shaw - @prsgameThis Podcast has been created and uploaded by My Old Man Said. On today's Palace Intrigue: Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's police investigation expands dramatically to include sexual offences and corruption, with Thames Valley Police assembling a specialist team, appealing for victims, and confirming early contact with the Crown Prosecution Service. Newly released government documents reveal the late Queen's role in his trade envoy appointment, while Andrew Lownie's updated Entitled lands in bookshops with fresh allegations. Then, a sharp change of pace: Prince William flies to Istanbul, watches Aston Villa lift the Europa League for the first time in forty-four years, loses his voice celebrating, joins the after-party, and is back on a radio sofa in Cornwall by morning — revealing Louis leaves jam fingerprints in the car and Charlotte supports Chelsea.Get episodes of Palace Intrigue by becommming a paid subscriber on Apple Podcasts. Griffin Warner talks betting for Wednesday. Griffin Warner returns with a loaded May 20 betting card on What I Bet, opening with the Europa League final between SC Freiburg and Aston Villa before moving through the NHL playoffs and a deep Major League Baseball slate. The soccer breakdown focuses on why a neutral site final in Istanbul could play tighter than the market expects, with SC Freiburg carrying underdog value and Aston Villa entering as the more talented favorite. Griffin explains why finals are often less about style and more about survival, clean sheets and avoiding the one mistake that decides a trophy. That points him toward the under two and a quarter, with Freiburg plus three quarters also drawing interest because a low scoring match naturally improves the underdog case. The show then shifts to the NHL, where the Vegas Golden Knights visit the Colorado Avalanche as a sizable road underdog. Colorado is respected as the stronger team, but Griffin sees a path for Vegas if the Golden Knights can slow the game down, defend with discipline and stay out of the penalty box. The market has moved toward the over, but Griffin leans the other way and would be especially interested in an under six and a half if it appears. From there, the episode moves into baseball, where Griffin works through the full MLB board. He leans Phillies behind Aaron Nola against Andrew Abbott and the Reds, understands the Twins price with Joe Ryan against Mike Burrows and a thin Astros lineup, sees runs and possible Rockies underdog value at Coors Field with Jack Leiter facing Kyle Freeland, and likes the Diamondbacks and over angle with Merrill Kelly against Tyler Mahle. He finds the White Sox interesting as a road underdog against the Mariners, especially with Seattle struggling at the plate and Cal Raleigh on the injured list. The most important baseball handicap comes in Atlanta Braves vs Miami Marlins, where Chris Sale is a large road favorite against Jackson Junk. Griffin does not want to lay the big price with Atlanta, but he respects Sale, gives Junk more credit than the market may and does not trust Miami to produce much offense. That makes under seven and a half the cleanest betting angle and ultimately the official What I Bet best bet. Other MLB thoughts include Washington as a home underdog against the Mets, caution on Toronto against the Yankees because of the Blue Jays bullpen, a Cubs lean against Milwaukee at a cheap price, Boston value with Connelly Early against Michael Wacha and the Royals, St. Louis behind Michael McGreevey against Pittsburgh, an over look in Dodgers vs Padres with Shohei Ohtani involved, and the Angels as an underdog against the Athletics with Aaron Civale facing Jack Kochanowicz. The episode closes with the promo code ERA20 for 20 percent off anything at pregame.com through May 31, then lands on Braves Marlins under seven and a half as the best bet for Wednesday. Arsenal are Champions. Through gritted teeth James concedes that they deserve it. Suj agrees. But what it's difficult to agree on is about what happens next for FPL managers for final day. Do Arsenal and Man City now rotate on final day? There's coverage of Arsenal's victory against Burnley, City's draw at a once again impressive Bournemouth who have secured Europa League qualification at minimum. And Tottenham lost at Chelsea meaning they may still need a point on final day to stay up. There's a look at all the final day fixtures and the players under consideration for purchase. Aston Villa face SC Freiburg in the Europa League final in Istanbul on Wednesday — and this week's episode is a full lowdown on the opponents, covering their history, their identity, their key players, and the tactical shape of what awaits. It's everything you need to know. The episode opens with a verdict that captures the problem succinctly: Villa have to shoot Bambi. Freiburg are 100% fan-owned, operate on a fraction of Villa's transfer budget, have the lowest squad turnover rate in the Bundesliga. The rest of the world will be rooting for the virtuous underdog.Freiburg have been shaped over three decades by two long-serving managers and a philosophy that puts sustainability at the foundation of their success. Going into the final though they have been hit by a key injury after Suzuki, their Japanese attacking midfielder broke his collarbone earlier this month and is out of the final. His absence strips away the dimension that made Freiburg genuinely difficult to track in the Europa League and makes them a more straightforward proposition. Still, their set piece threat is real. The show also lands on a clear position going into Wednesday: there is no alternative to winning. Champions League is confirmed. The pressure is gone. This one is for the trophy, and for the supporters who have waited thirty years.UTVListen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.Become a MOMS Member for ad-free & extra shows - MOMS MembershipJoin the show's listener Facebook group The Mad Few.Credits:David Michael - @myoldmansaid | Chris Budd - @BUDD_music / Phillip Shaw - @prsgameThis Podcast has been created and uploaded by My Old Man Said.
