We had the pleasure of interviewing Åsa Orbison over Zoom video!Originally from Stockholm, Sweden Åsa Orbison had a fondness for music at a young age, where she attended music school in Sweden. Into adulthood, she then transitioned into working in marketing, but later came to the realization that music was always something she ultimately gravitated to and wanted to pursue. Åsa decided to make the move to America when she found love with now husband Roy Orbison Jr! She came back to her musical roots when working together with her husband (whom she collaborated with on her new album). As a huge feat, Åsa received a platinum record award for singing backup vocals on her father-in-law, Roy Orbison's ‘Unchained Melodies” in 2019. The “Blue Bayou” album is Åsa's first album and passion project, recorded at Roy Orbison Jr's "Pretty Woman Studio", Nashville A Team member Wayne Moss' “Cinderella Studio” and Jack Clement's “The Cowboy Arms Hotel And Recording Spa”. "Blue Bayou” album is a stunning representation of Åsa's Jazz/Pop soft, breathy singing style with her top singles "Blue Bayou”, ”Green Eyes” “Unchained Melody”, & “Satin Doll”.Åsa resides in Malibu, California with her 4 adorable children and husband Roy Orbison Jr. In her free time, she enjoys music, running, Pilates and hiking. Contemporary Jazz/Pop artist Alex Whorms joins the show to discuss her holiday track "Christmas Morning"! Described by friends as a love letter to her family, Alex's "Christmas Morning" is piano-ballad ode to the cherished memories and anticipation of future moments to be created with loved ones during the holiday season. The heartfelt, comforting song was written in late 2020 - a time when many families knew they wouldn't be able to see one another that year, making Alex even more grateful to know she would be able to be with hers. With a focus that steers away from the materialistic, stressful aspects of Christmas, Alex reminds listeners about what she was reminded of during that time - the importance of being around those you love. Canadian artist Alex Whorms is a prolific singer-songwriter and professional screen composer who has scored multiple television and film soundtracks throughout her career. With a rapidly growing fanbase and recognition across Canada and the US prior to the slowdown of the pandemic, the 2019 recipient of the Hamilton Arts Award for Emerging Artist in Music toured across Ontario and has been a featured performer on local and regional television.
Thrilled to welcome Canadian jazz-pop singer from Montreal and rising star Nikki Yanofsky to the show. A gracious historian of music's renowned authorities, Yanofsky built her stylistic compass based on an acclaimed trinity: Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, and Stevie Wonder. Her new album 'Nikki By Starlight' (Out NOW) pays homage with a plate full of jazz standards with a fresh musical interpretation. Over the years, Yanofsky has collaborated with genre icons, including Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder while performing at some of the world's biggest stages. Maybe none bigger than singing the Canadian national anthem at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in front of 3.2 billion people at age 16. "Snarky Puppy" are an American instrumental ensemble led by bassist Michael League. The group's formation can be traced back to 2004, after Micheal League's second year at the University of North Texas. He says that he was so bad as a musician he wasn't able to play with any school ensembles, so creating "Snarky Puppy" was his way of getting to play live.Straight out of the gate the group consisted of 10 members. Since those early days they have gone on to release 14 albums, toured the world, and collaborated with an ever evolving carousel of live musicians as well as with solo artists and orchestras. As usual, there is much more to know, so tune in to Jay and Jesse as they discuss this unique collective on Roots to Grooves. To listen to the full episode, including the featured music, visit... signlradio.com"Roots to Grooves" is a production of SIGNL.https://www.signlradio.comhttps://www.instagram.com/signlradiohttps://www.twitter.com/signlradiohttps://www.facebook.com/signlradiohttps://www.mixcloud.com/signlhttps://open.spotify.com/user/96mhz6qfjoztxbl2dpm0uj903?si=aAZpsoEnRAKdx85kr1QWhg

Jazz-Pop's elegance swayed a lot of people in 2020 but is it here to stay or was it just a trend? Will it replace generic pop music and turn into the go-to music genre for solo artists and 2D groups? TRIGGER, Re:vale, THRIVE, Makoto Furukawa, Soma Saito and Shugo Nakamura showed their cards in jazz - and its sub-genres - and if those attempts are anything to go by, jazz would be more than welcome to the spotlight. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thtfhqseiyuulounge/message
If there are anyone more doped out than the rock singers then they have to be the junkies of rock music, who are in such a stupor that they are still waiting outside Elvis Presley’s house waiting for him to emerge out. For the record, Presley died in 1977.

See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Though he's of & lives in South Armagh, Ireland, the music of Ben Reel is variously described as Rock/Americana, Roots Rock, Alternative Folk, Adult Alternative Pop/Rock and even Jazz Pop. Thing is, he's great. Though Irish through-and-through, he's influenced by musicians all over, like Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Neil Young, Rob Orbison, U2, & many more. Having grown up in the middle of "the troubles" in Ireland, Ben is deeply committed to a better country & a better world.

EBAN BROWN GUITARIST/VOCALIST/COMPOSER/ACTOR Hailing from Newark, NJ, Harold Eban Brown is a world-renowned guitarist, composer and singer. Motivated by strong family support and a firm belief in God, Eban exhibited a gift for music at an exceptionally early age. Eban began playing guitar and singing with several gospel groups by age seven and as he became older his interest in studying jazz guitar was influenced by Wes Montgomery, George Benson, David T. Walker, Larry Carlton, Grant Geissman, George Duke, and Bobby Caldwell. It was during this time that Eban Brown, realized another gift, that of songwriter. In 1991, Eban Brown became the lead vocalist for his idol artist group RAY, GOODMAN & BROWN (better known as The MOMENTS). Although Eban was originally chosen to sign on as the group's guitarist, instead, he was instantly moved to the frontline to sing with his idol group. The founding members thought his physical characteristics were too young at the time to take promotional photos for marketing, so he continued to perform with the group for two and a half years. Later Eban would become a member of the one time Grammy-Award winning group; The MANHATTANS (featuring Gerald Alston and Blue Lovett) his stay was very short lived due to future accomplishments. In 1993, Eban became the lead vocalist of the DELFONICS, and was the first lead vocalist of the DELFONICS to be inducted into the 98.7 KISS FM HALL OF FAME, in New York City, the NAACP HALL OF FAME, in Atlanta, GA and in 1996, received a NAACP award for his accomplishments as lead vocalist of The DELFONICS. The Delfonics, which featured Wilbert Hart, Major Harris and Eban Brown, has dazzled fans overseas, as well as the United States. In 1995, with the DELFONICS, Eban recorded a live album "Wil Hart and The DELFONICS live in Chattanooga, TN which was considered one of the group's most treasured recordings. In 1994, Eban Brown also produced two songs for Rap Artist Rob Base, on the Album "Break of Dawn", which featured the DELFONICS, the two songs were "Are You With Me", and "Chillin”. In 1998, due to adversity with the music business Brown took a two-year break to structure family life before striking success again. In April 2000, unexpectedly, Brown became the lead vocalist of the world renowned STYLISTICS, following Mr. Russell Thompkins Jr., the original lead vocalist. As it stands, Eban is the youngest Classic Soul recording artist in the History of Classic Soul Music. In 2002, Eban formed Stardom Records, with his first solo album release, entitled "MASTER SUITE", a Jazz/Pop masterpiece with an amazing acoustic guitar feel. In July 2004 came Eban's second album release entitled "RESTLESS SOUL", which is highly influenced by pop with jazz overtones. In 2006, Eban released his third album entitled "EXIT 15", it's a collection of 10 Selections which five are originals and the other five are remakes that mark some of the greatest songs he always promised he would record. In 2008, Eban has teamed up with Rap Superstar “NAS” on a Song called “CAN'T STOP US NOW”, which is a sample of “Message To A Black Man” from a 70's Group “The Whatnauts”. In 2009, Eban released his first all instrumental album titled “DETERMINISM” which debuts his sister Lisa Brown on vocals. In 2014, Eban released his 5th Album titled “SUMMERTIME IN TOKYO” , which features an original Selection Tribute to The Late George Duke, including 4 very Well known remakes. One of Eban's many endeavors is to continue to record original music that people will enjoy listening to as well as write music for other artists'.In 2015, Eban released his first Dance Selection titled "NEVER GONNA LET YOU GO" which was launched in The United Kingdom and has been remixed and released as an extended Dance Version by DJ Stathis of Greece. Also in the same year, Eban composed a Children's Song called "EYES OF A CHILD" in which 100% of profits were donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital (A Specialist Children's Hospital) based in London. Earlier in 2015, Eban began acting in the role of a Baptist Preacher in the film "LOOKING FOR GOD". New York based artist Niia comes from a background where her mother was an accomplished Jazz pianist and her grandmother was an opera singer. It’s those sensibilities that inform Niia’s own Pop Jazz fusion. Her current album is "I," a collection of songs that delve into the artist's own skepticism around love and healthy relationships. Each song captures her penchant for sultry grooves and sticky melodies - the perfect accompaniment for Niia’s intensely intimate vocal styling. Jesse Menendez spoke with Niia during the Chicago leg of her tour.

;)Weiterlesen »
British singer-songwriter Julia Fordham continues to enchant audiences around the world with her extraordinary vocal range and heartfelt songs. From 1988’s Happy Ever After — her first release and an international hit — and throughout all 15 albums, her unique voice and exquisitely crafted compositions strike an everlasting chord.A luscious contralto that she wields with an almost operatic command, it is one of the most strikingly beautiful new voices to be heard in pop. – New York TimesAt 14, Julia started writing songs and performing at local folk clubs. Soon after, she was invited to be a guest singer with the UK’s National Youth Jazz Orchestra, which sparked a lifelong love of the genre. On her highly acclaimed second album, Porcelain, two original jazz songs “For You, Only For You” and “China Blue” were featured along with the hits “Manhattan Skyline” and “Lock and Key.”In 1992, “Love Moves” (from her third album Swept), was chosen as the theme song for The Butcher’s Wife, starring Demi Moore, and became a big hit in the UK, US, and the Philippines.Four of Julia’s albums have been produced by Grammy winner Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock, Madeleine Peyroux). Her 2005 live CD (That’s Life) and DVD (That’s Live), features Klein as producer and bass player as part of an all-star band including the Academy Award-winning trumpet player/composer, Mark Isham. On the soulful song (from the album of the same name) “Concrete Love,” Julia performs a stunning duet with another Grammy winner, India.Arie.After 2004’s devastating tsunami struck in Asia, Julia became intimately involved in a charity project to help rebuild a school in India, by donating the proceeds from a “Happy Ever After” remix. It featured a children’s choir from England. This beautiful production brought Julia back full circle to the place where she first started writing and performing as a teenager. In 2007, Julia’s Baby Love EP, a set of unconditional love songs dedicated to her daughter, Marley Rose, was released.Julia’s 10th album, China Blue, is a collection of original jazz compositions, except for one song: a reinterpretation of Michael McDonald’s “I Keep Forgetting” with Michael himself contributing his amazing vocals.Under The Rainbow, is a piano/voice album featuring all her hits and fan favorites, plus a new song: “Skipping Under The Rainbow.”Mixed, Shaken & Stirred is Julia’s latest project. Released on September 30, this unique album features some of the songs from Julia’s much loved first album, all of which have been remixed, reworked and reconstructed by some of today’s leading and cutting edge producers of dance and electronic music.Julia’s next album, Live & Untouched, is an eclectic mix of fan faves that were recorded at recent shows. The first single “Ingrid & Humphrey” was the instant gratification track when the album was purchased as a pre-order on November 18. Live & Untouched was released on November 25.Both albums are available worldwide in both physical and digital formats, as well as, streaming services.Produced and arranged by Julia’s long-time collaborator, pianist and musician extraordinaire, Grant Mitchell, The Language of Love, is a jazz album featuring covers of songs that were also hits on the Japanese charts. Supported by an outstanding ensemble of leading Los Angeles musicians and Latin jazz aficionados, this seductive collection includes swing, bossa nova and traditional trio interpretations of familiar chart-toppers.The Language of Love also debuts two original songs written by Julia, “Like You Used To Do” and “The Morning After (The Night With You),” and includes a new World Music-flavored rendition of “Happy Ever After.” The original version was a #1 hit in Japan. On April 14, Red River Entertainment will release The Language of Love on all formats. The Digital release will have two bonus tracks,
Ottawa-based band MonkeyJunk plays a blend of swamp-rock roots and blues that in the relatively short time has earned them a collective 20 Maple Blues Awards, two Canadian Independent Music Awards, a Blues Music Award (USA), and a JUNO Award in 2012. Monkey Junk is three musicians who individually had established careers prior to forming MonkeyJunk: vocalist, baritone guitarist, harmonica and organ player Steve Marriner, lead guitarist Tony D and drummer/percussionist Matt Sobb. We are delighted that they will join us on Music FridayLive! this week with their new album, Moon Turn Red. The strands formed in 2011 bring a genre-defying sound they like to call Artisanal. Thoughtful and provocative lyrics dominate, carried by a piano with a subdued drum and sophisticated guitar grooves. The result is almost jazz, but not quite – the Strands straddle the line between jazz and pop. Lead singer Amanda Campbell delivers original material - much of it written by the band's keyboard and piano artist Susan Ferrari - with a smooth voice, backed by the legendary Richard Green on lead guitar, Ferrari on piano and keys and the founder of the group, Paul, on bass. Restrained, thoughtful, striking, the Strands stand out and we are glad they are taking the time to talk with us on Music FridayLive!.
