Send us a textIn Part 1 of the series on Women Architects in Leadership Roles, Ar. Dr. Eleena Jamil discusses some questions posed by female mid-level architects such as: Have you ever faced discrimination, even subtly, when working on large-scale projects involving many male consultants, clients, and contractors? and; Have you ever faced resistance or bias when stepping into leadership roles in architecture? Tune in to find out more and do give your opinion / feedback on what you think on this matter.Bio: Eleena Jamil is a Malaysian architect born in Penang. She graduated from the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University, in the UK. She joined the Cardiff architecture faculty as a teaching assistant while completing her MPhil and PhD postgraduate research. Her PhD thesis, titled “Rethinking Modernism: The Sugden House and the Mother's House,” examined the concept of “ordinariness” and “vernacular imagery” as alternatives to the reductive limitations of modern architecture. She established her eponymous architectural practice in Kuala Lumpur in 2005, focusing on developing buildings within the context of Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Recently, she published a book titled 'An Essence of Place: Making Local Architecture', which emphasises the importance of rooting projects to place by way of exploring the experiential potential of form, material and construction and a concern for the environmental, social and economic aspects ofsustainability. https://ej-architect.com/© 2025 Talk Architecture, Author: Naziaty Mohd Yaacob. What makes culture so powerful, and why do so many organizations get it wrong? Kevin sits down with organizational psychologist Laura Hamill to discuss the disconnect between the practice of culture and the science of culture. Laura defines culture not just as what's visible on the surface, but as the underlying "collective set of reasons why" behaviors occur in organizations. She explains why leaders must bridge the gap between aspirational values and actual workplace experiences and introduces the concept of cultural betrayal. Welcome to Your Partner In Success Radio with your host Denise Griffitts.Today's guest is Maggie Olson, founder of Nova Chief of Staff, the leading platform for Chief of Staff education and certification. With 20 years of leadership experience at Nordstrom and T-Mobile, Maggie built the Chief of Staff model from scratch to support thousands of employees and executives. Through Nova, she's trained hundreds of professionals from top companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Salesforce.Maggie's career took off in her mid-twenties when she became a Buyer at Nordstrom—a role she'd long dreamt of. While the glamour of the job was exciting, Maggie learned that leadership isn't about making immediate, sweeping changes. Instead, it's about pacing yourself, understanding your team, and developing the ability to recognize burnout before it takes a toll.As someone who grew her LinkedIn following to 17,000 in less than a year by sharing insights and resources, Maggie is also a great example of how to build influence through leadership and engagement. Her approach focuses on engaging with industry leaders, sharing practical resources, and always thinking from her audience's point of view—asking, “What do they want to hear? How can I help them?” Maggie can explain how early-career professionals can use these same methods to build meaningful relationships and become trusted voices. In this episode, Maggie will share how to step into leadership early, avoid burnout during rapid career growth, and build trust and influence authentically. Real Salt Lake Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni joined to talk about 2nd year player Diego Luna displaying a lot as a leader so far this season, what's that been like for the team?
Inspired by her father Rey's courageous journey from Cuba to America and her brother Rey's childhood musical rivalry, Angie chose her stage name as a tribute to the two men who shaped her dreams. Her musical journey began early, leading to a breakthrough appearance on Telemundo's "La Voz Kids," where she reached the Top 18. This first-generation Cuban-American found her unique voice in country music, influenced by time spent on her grandparents' farm where she discovered the shared values of family, God, and love between her Latin heritage and country music. Now based in Nashville for the past two years, Angie has carved out her own path, performing several nights weekly on Broadway and opening for country stars such as Wynonna Judd, Scotty McCreery and Tanya Tucker, while infusing Latin energy into her country originals.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
The Legally Speaking Podcast has visited one of the world's most exciting legal hubs: Dubai. But we're not just visiting — we're starting the year in style with a brand-new miniseries that showcases how innovation, opportunity and culture come together in this incredible city. What's it all about? Our Legally Speaking Podcast series features short, punchy episodes (10–15 minutes each), where we dive into conversations with inspiring legal minds to explore:
Law firms that treat innovation like a team sport are the ones shaping the future of legal practice. Chris Batz and Howard Rosenberg sit down with Jamie Drozd, the managing partner at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, a corporate law firm known for leaning into technology in ways that actually stick. Jamie shares how her path, from commercial litigator to firm leadership, was shaped by early lessons in service, and how those same values now guide her in a role she never set out to pursue. What does meaningful growth look like for a modern law firm? For Jamie, it's not about size. It's about deepening expertise in industries like technology, financial services, and media, while staying rooted in strong client relationships and a culture that prioritizes collaboration over ego. Jamie also offers a candid look at how the firm is approaching technology, including artificial intelligence. Can workplace culture be measured as rigorously as financial performance? Christy Pretzinger, founder of WG Content and author of The Cultural Balance Sheet, says yes! In this episode, we explore how her framework applies financial principles—assets, liabilities, and equity—to workplace culture. Christy shares how leaders can assess, manage, and optimize their culture with the same intent and precision as a balance sheet. We also dive into why kindness is not weakness, how values should guide decisions, and why measuring culture is critical to business success. We explore: How liabilities in workplace culture can be transformed into assets The role of leadership in shaping cultural equity Why engagement isn't just agreement—it's about people who care The hidden costs of employee turnover (and how to reduce them) This conversation is packed with insights to help leaders create thriving, high-performing workplaces. Don't miss it! ----more---- Key Takeaways Culture is measurable, just like finances. Christy applies financial principles to workplace culture, proving that culture isn't just a “soft” concept but something that can be managed with intent and discipline. Kindness is not weakness—it's a leadership strength. Kindness doesn't mean avoiding tough conversations. It's about clarity, boundaries, and setting people up for success. Turnover has hidden costs—invest in culture to reduce it. Losing employees means losing knowledge, relationships, and productivity. A strong, people-focused culture can minimise that and improve performance. Leaders shape culture through everyday actions. Culture is shaped daily through leadership behaviour, communication, and decision-making. Leaders must be intentional in the pursuit of the culture they need. ----more---- Key Moments The key moments in this episode are: 0:00:10 – Welcome to Sticky From The Inside 0:03:36 – Can Culture Be Measured Like a Balance Sheet? 0:06:33 – Why Kindness Is a Business Superpower 0:10:39 – The Epiphany Behind the Cultural Balance Sheet 0:14:36 – Cultural Assets: The Foundation of a Thriving Business 0:18:56 – Cultural Liabilities: What's Holding Your Business Back? 0:27:27 – What Is Cultural Equity and Why Does It Matter? 0:31:08 – How to Measure and Manage Culture Effectively 0:39:37 – The Leadership Role in Shaping Workplace Culture 0:42:37 – Three Sticky Notes for Building a Stronger Culture ----more---- Join The Conversation Find Andy Goram on LinkedIn here Listen to the Podcast on YouTube here Follow the Podcast on Instagram here Follow the Podcast on Twitter here Follow the Podcast on Facebook here Check out the Bizjuicer website here Get a free consultation with Andy here Check out the Bizjuicer blog here Download the podcast here ----more---- Useful Links Follow Christy Pretzinger on LinkedIn here Find Christy's website here ----more---- Full Episode Transcript Get the full transcript of the episode here

In today's episode of Leadership is Feminine, Kris Plachy explores the profound responsibility that comes with leadership and the undeniable influence leaders have—whether they realize it or not. Leadership isn't just about making choices; it's about understanding the weight of those choices and the impact they have on the people who follow. Kris challenges both leaders and followers to reflect: When was the last time you revisited your values? Are you making decisions based on your own beliefs, or simply following someone else's lead? She urges listeners to take a step back, dig into their core values, and ensure they're aligned with the people and organizations they choose to follow. But leadership doesn't exist without followership. Kris dives into the often-overlooked responsibility of followers, emphasizing that it's just as crucial for them to understand their own values. “It is as incumbent upon followers to know what their values are, as it is for leaders,” she says. Too often, people look to leaders for direction without first identifying what truly matters to them. “If you assume a role of leadership, you have a tremendous amount of responsibility,” Kris reminds us. People naturally seek guidance, and as a leader, you set the course—whether for a team, a business, or a community. This episode is a call to step into leadership and followership with clarity, intention, and a strong foundation of personal values. Key Takeaways From This Episode Understanding the Responsibility That Comes with a Leadership Role: Discussion of how easy it is for people to be placed in leadership roles based on the followers around them. Leaders Can Influence and Shape People's Actions and Decisions The Importance of Clear Values for Both Leaders and Followers: Self-awareness and clarity about one's values. The Challenge of Different Interpretations of Shared Values Values in the Workplace: Understanding the values of your organization and your leaders.
