Lean does not mean small. In fact, "small business" is one of our least favorite words, as it implies less of an impact. Lean, in our definition, means driven, strong, and purposeful. It's where you "punch above your weight" in terms of how the market perceives you relative to the size of your company. Your business makes a big difference with fewer resources and less waste than similar organizations. Lean is a philosophy more than a set of instructions. And this episode will help you put that philosophy to work in growing your business. You will discover: How to create a sense of ownership and shared vision in your team so you can have a bigger impact How to use lean principles to learn faster so you can create products that your customers love The signs you'll see in your calendar and/or org chart that you might not be running lean, and the mindset shift that will help you get there For the full show notes and transcript, visit https://besuperabound.com/podcast/278-how-to-run-a-lean-business

MOONSHOT ENTREPRENEUR - God-led life transformation with COURAGEOUS FAITH, STRATEGY & FINANCE
Hey my friend, Many of us start out as entrepreneurs thinking that we have to spend a whole lot of money in order to run a business. Often, people even falsely believe that they could never afford to be an entrepreneur. I am here to bust that myth today! It is entirely possible to run a business for 655$ per year (I am the living proof for this). Are you stunned?! Do you have a hard time believing this? If so, you definitely need to listen in. I share with you how I do this. I also share what the guiding principles are as you make decisions regarding the expense side of your business. What do you have to watch out for as you make your operational decision? Do you have to say 'no' to every form of expense in order to "save money"? What are some free tools you can use for your business? All this and much more will be answered in the episode today. I pray this blesses you. The other day I was watching this documentary on Netflix that talks about minimalism. The name of the documentary is Minimalism: Less is Now. Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus are the two film-makers who show how are victims of a consumerist culture where everything is at the click of a button and we don't even think while buying —- unconscious buying. As a result there is just too much of everything in the house. It's flooded ! Anytime does that happen, it is because of not processing our emotions. Why Do I talk so much about trauma informed coaching is because trauma shapes the way we think. We cannot have clarity of thoughts - we are constantly bombarded by everything that's around us — be hot on Facebook or Instagram. We feel seduced by things like food on zomato Trauma response - Getting up to buy a burger on zomato or Going eShopping: A dress. A new phone A New computer. A new set of cutlery A new bag Even new books. I even know people who hoard stationers and keep them with them These are all trauma responses. We don't realise the impact we are having on the planet by consuming and producing so much of waste. We go to the three Anything that gives instant gratification Anything that leaves waste Anything that is hoarded. Now how does that relate to selling? We feel we need to make a lot of offers…MULITPLE OFFERS We need to give a Lot in our services and healings For eg, if I am taking 15K I have to get journaling, therapy, coaching. Already overwhelmmed! We have to collect a lot of degrees. We have to use many techniques Simple things don't work. Because that is not deep healing. When it comes to my own coaching business, I completely believe in the lean minimalist model of selling I have a lean model I sell just one program It is simple because its components are simple 5 Modules - thoughts, social media, body business, energy, sales. People can have clarity about what I am offering Because once again my offer is lean and structured. It doesn't go to several places. It simply says that if you are a coach, healer, therapist - this is the place where you make money I don't even give too much information in my website - because people feel heavy in their head. It's at a single price of INR 2.5L It's clear that it's going to be for a lifetime. That we meet coaching for a lifetime every week Such a lean model always helps you to grow better instead of focusing on multiple things Focus on multiple things comes from unprocessed thoughts about the multiple things in your head which doesn't allow you to have a streamlined thought process. You can only actually work on one thing at a time - in order to prevent work from piling up and idling, you have to have a process and steps.” – Colin “The second deadly waste is inventory. There's inventory that functionally needs to be there and then there's inventory to work on to stay busy.” – Colin “The fourth deadly waste of defects is brutal because when there is a defect, it'll cost you 30-100% more to get that product out correctly and done.” – Colin “With small businesses, accuracy is extremely important.” – Colin “If you were to watch a pit crew, everyone has their job. They are doing things in the right order and they're synchronized.” – Colin “I had my client walk down the aisle in his shop 100 paces while I timed him and found it took him 3.4 cents a step for him to walk around and chase things down That's motion waste.” – Colin “The 7th deadly waste of waiting is exemplified when someone who is ready, willing, and able to work but can't. This person is waiting for approval to go ahead or the right information.” – Colin “We help the management develop the plan but we also train the operators and anyone who touches the process.” - Colin “It frees up management and ownership to focus on things instead of micromanaging processes because these processes will start to run on their own.” – Colin Resources Connect with Colin on LinkedIn Visit ISI's Company Website Call Colin at 918.906.5226 Check us out on Youtube Follow us on social media: LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram Subscribe to our weekly newsletter, The Countdown Have questions? Today I do a fair bit of writing, speaking, or blogging but I’m also still the chairman of the company I founded. I have a great management team that runs the day-to-day operations of the business which allows me to focus on the parts of the business I enjoy. When I launched Palo Alto Software, many years ago, it was originally a consulting business that provided business planning services for local computer dealers. In the old days, business plans were more elaborate and rarely changed once they were created. Fast-forward to today and most successful businesses use a lean business plan that is reviewed and revised continuously. The misconception about business plans is that they aren’t useful in guiding your business today, which would be true if you created your business plan based on the decades-old model. However, the lean business plan I mentioned is something you can use daily to help run your business better. The key attributes to a lean business plan include a list of assumptions, a handful of major milestones, key metrics, and a few bullet points that outline your strategy and tactics. As entrepreneurs, we often get distracted by new ideas or solving a customer's problems. However, what I’ve learned is there is a principle of displacement at work here, solving for one problem rules out your ability to solve for another. That is where the business plan helps to keep you on track to solve the problems that align with your strategy. A great business plan is like exercise, it’s the workouts that get you the results, not the plan itself. Will your business be doomed to fail if you don’t have a business plan? No, you can find some level of success without a plan. However, every business will benefit and grow even more when they have a lean business plan that they use to help run their business. The business planning software we created is a web app that anyone can use and it's only $19.95 a month or less if you pay annually. So it doesn’t require a large investment to have a lean business plan but it will help you run your business better. Resources Shared: Palo Alto Software Lean Business Planning by Tim Berry Bplans

In this episode of Small Business Connections, Ann talks about entrepreneurship, their passion for helping small businesses, and the Lean Framework with Brad Eisenburg of BELeanBusiness.com. Brad got an early start in entrepreneurship and he had many signs that showed him the way. Brad went from Mechanical Engineering to Engineering Businesses. As a child, Brad wanted to design roller coasters, pursued an engineering degree at the University of Maryland and while at school fell in love with entrepreneurship. Brad's passion for helping businesses developed while working on a school project where he developed a bicycle-sharing company paired with working for an energy efficiency business. Brad saw ways to incorporate a new concept with the bicycles and ways to improve the energy business's efficiency. Brad helps small businesses adopt "Lean" strategies and technology to become scaleable. He enjoys building systems and showing companies how to be a sustainable business. Brad focuses on helping businesses save time, money and build consistency all the way through their processes. Brad offers a free Lean Assessment Tool for you to explore and find one thing you can fix or streamline in your business today. In this episode, I discussed a more simplistic way to create a business plan. Most of my college professors taught me the traditional format of developing a business plan. However, creating a lean business canvas saves more time and it's a great way to build the philosophy of your business idea. The lean business canvas focuses on nine key elements. Creating a solution for your customer segment problems and having a competitive advantage are some of the important areas I went over. Small business owners have a lot on their plate: marketing, product development, sales, hiring, expenses… that's a recipe for overwhelm, says Adam Lean. And, all too often, what takes a backseat are the financials– the numbers that gauge the true health of your business. Are you living with the attitude of “if I make more money, my finances will take care of themselves,” or “besides, that's why I have an accountant/bookkeeper, anyways…”? That's the entirely wrong attitude to have. Adam says if you don't monitor the right numbers, you'll make bad decisions and potentially endanger your business. And, that's something that someone who does your taxes can't help you with. Adam shares the three metrics you should focus on first, as well as… When – and why – more sales doesn't equal more profits How to tell if you're just “buying yourself a job” or truly running a business Creating the customized financial “scoreboard” you need to make decisions Overcoming the #1 thing all business owners struggle with And more
Getting yourself in to deep debt to start a business tends to be the traditional way to do it. And while it can be nice to be able to walk in to a fully set-up, fully-funded environment, surely there’s a way to do it without all the grovelling to the bank manager.
Si el concepto, de acuerdo a la opinión de los expertos, es factible, habrá que trazar una línea de acción que seguirás a toda costa: tu Lean Business Plan.

Earning thousands more a month with just a flip of the switch? It's possible. Small changes can pay off in big ways in the online business world. Matt and Andrew talk about the tiny tweaks they've made that have lead to more money. And we're talking really tiny tweaks, like moving around existing links, adding new featured images and making minor updates to existing products. It can take lots of tracking to figure out what changes work, but it makes for a better business in the long run. Maybe it really is the little things in life. Especially if they make you more money. Enjoy! P.S. One of Matt's biggest payoffs? A small change to how he tracks his revenue. Check out his write up about his Lean Business Model at Moneylab.co/Lean-Business

How do you go about New Year resolutions/intentions? What methods do you use? Judith shares two resources she’s discovered and Nicola’s whittled her plans down to just three... In The Show Nicola describes her mammoth journey home to the UK for Christmas and tells Judith why she’s still here. Her Christmas was nice, her step-father joined the family for the day, she’s caught up with friends including Kim who she’s helping with Facebook Ads, and she and Phoebe have been for Reiki treatments. Judith enjoyed her family on Christmas Day too and then visits from friends on 27th and 28th December. She completed the 21 Day tapping challenge and she’s been thinking about how she wants to show up in her business and in her writing in 2019. What's Fuelled Their Fire? Judith received lots of lovely unsolicited testimonials which she found very encouraging, including one about the podcast which she shared with Nicola during the show. Nicola’s been studying with Andre Chaperon, specifically his new course Lean Business for Creators which is about service not selling. Focus Of The Week How do you go about New Year resolutions/intentions? What methods do you use? What systems have Nicola and Judith used? Judith shares two resources she’s discovered and enjoyed and which have provoked lots of New Year-type thinking and Nicola’s whittled her plans down to just three; Clicks And Leads Academy, her new passion project and her own sci-fi creative writing. Do share your plans for 2019 in the Own It! Facebook Group – free to join. Words Of The Week Nicola chooses Family (good) and Judith picks Tapping. Project Updates During the break, Nicola has launched WritingClubWorld.com and was thrilled to be on Bing within 24 hours and attracting writers from all over the world. She’s describing it as her passion project but Judith goes as far as to say that she thinks this could be The One, given how people are so much more interested in what they want right now - their lives and their hobbies and passions - as compared to what they need. Unusually Judith has also launched something new for her clients in 2019 – Crazy Bespoke. She noticed that she was offering clients the opportunity to buy either a year or an hour, so she thought she’d introduce something in between and invited them to get in touch and describe their bespoke needs, their brief and their budget, so she can quote accordingly. Who Or What's Impressed Nicola is very definitely not impressed with her relatively new iPhone but she loved Luther and she IS impressed with Phoebe’s health plans for Dry January and her taking exercise daily. Judith is also impressed by her family, specifically her brother who has lost 12kg low carbing and had a new strategy for keeping the peace on Christmas Day. Thanks for listening! GUEST BIO: David James is the founder of TotalCarCheck.co.uk, a vehicle background check website. David started this company as successful entrepreneurs do, by solving a problem he encountered. After his parents bought a stolen car and found themselves at a $5,000 loss, he created a website that wouldn't allow this to happen again. David's focused and realistic mindset has supported TotalCarCheck.co.uk in running background checks on almost two thirds of all the vehicles in the United Kingdom. The parallel app has become one of the top utility apps in the UK and David continues to use forward thinking, innovation, and his customers to grow his company and create transparency in the car buying process. SHOW SUMMARY: David James, founder of TotalCarCheck.co.uk, is an entrepreneur with a laser focus on simplicity and great results. His vehicle background check website has become the most successful website in the UK in his niche. David has built the foundation for his software based of seven lean principles, which he'll discuss during our conversation. In this episode, David explains how he runs his company with only two employees, his advice for new software entrepreneurs and the books that have given him the insight for this accolade of success. This is The Lean Commerce Podcast. TOPICS: How did you get started with your business? 0:57 I had a more normal career starting off, but I always had an entrepreneurial spirit. My parents accidentally bought a stolen car and I realized there was a problem that needed to be solved, people needed to be able to run a background check on a car. 4:17 Once you get the wheels rolling, you start to get momentum. Very quickly people started to realize what we were doing was different than what other vehicle background check websites were doing and business started to grow from there. 6:33 Even in darker times, there is opportunity. It sounds spiritual, but the experience of my parent's buying the stolen car was an epiphany for me. When I look back, it all seems kind of unbelievable that something so fortunate was built from such a negative experience. If you have a passion for something and genuinely enjoy doing it, it really helps you to become successful. 13:06 I think if you are consistent in what you want to do, you generally get results in the end. If you stay consistent in those principles and approach, you come out well in the end. You're checking two thirds of all of the vehicles in the UK, what does the backend of your business look like? 15:55 Pretty much from day one, we've done this with only two staff members (including myself). This works because of two rules. The first is, we automate ruthlessly. People tend to skip over this because the initial effort is difficult, but the cost saving over five years is incredible. The second is, outsource wherever you can. Our accounts, legal, HR, design and development are all outsourced. This gives you much more flexibility. What are your lean development principles? 20:22 My lean business strategy comes from the seven principles outlined in Lean Software Development by Mary Poppendieck. First, eliminate all waste. Second, amplify learning by teaching your entire team, not just yourself. Third, make decisions as late as possible. Fourth, deliver as quickly as possible. Fifth, empower the team. Sixth, build integrity. Seventh, see the whole picture. Marketing techniques that worked before, don't always work now. How do you work around this problem? 35:56 It's frustrating because you don't know if it's the market changing or if you did something wrong. But, that's the beauty of what we do. It was formulaic, it would be easy. That's how the best have their advantage because they are able to discover the variables to focus on and the variables to ignore. 38:40 Whenever I'm pouring over the numbers, I try to ground myself by asking, “What am I doing this for?” and remind myself that I'm doing this so I can

If you have a passion for something and genuinely enjoy doing it, it really helps you to become successful. 13:06 I think if you are consistent in what you want to do, you generally get results in the end. If you stay consistent in those principles and approach, you come out well in the end. You’re checking two thirds of all of the vehicles in the UK, what does the backend of your business look like? 15:55 Pretty much from day one, we’ve done this with only two staff members (including myself). Marketing techniques that worked before, don’t always work now. How do you work around this problem? 35:56 It’s frustrating because you don’t know if it’s the market changing or if you did something wrong. But, that’s the beauty of what we do. It was formulaic, it would be easy. That’s how the best have their advantage because they are able to discover the variables to focus on and the variables to ignore. 38:40 Whenever I’m pouring over the numbers, I try to ground myself by asking, “What am I doing this for?” and remind myself that I’m doing this so I can spend more time with my family. I don’t want to get lost in my work and have it be the center of everything that I do. This work has that effect on us and if we’re not careful, it can become addictive and habitual. 43:46 Throwing hours at a project doesn’t fix anything. It doesn’t achieve anything. You need to be creative and innovate. Spend your time wisely instead of in this false culture of hustle and working nine hours a day for six days a week. What tactics do you use to get reviews? 45:38 We incentive people to leave reviews by giving them a check voucher for $199, using copy that asks users to leave a review and we giveaway free information to users who create an account with us. That's exactly why we put this episode together!

Series: Big Business Cohost: Ben Stainer Introduction. Welcome to the Big Business Series with Ben Stainer. Ben formerly ran on of Sydney's largest service business, 'Australian Five Star Trades', which later became 'General Trades'. At it's peak, Bens company was turning a million dollars a month, so it's fair to say that Ben is More than qualified to talk about Big Business. Throughout Bens journey, he's encountered highs and lows, going through everything from large profits, right through to getting smashed in the media. If you've ever had aspirations to build a big business, you'll love this series as Ben Shares all and drops some absolute bombs along the way. Don't forget to PLEASE leave us a review on iTunes, Stitcher, or Soundcloud. you have no idea how much it helps us with ratings. Episode 1: Running a lean business In this episode Ben and I discuss how to run a lean business and how to NOT over capitalise. Very often when you're making money, it's easy to over spend. The more you make, the more you seem to spend and the cloud of success seems to cover it up. Ben has been there and done that and he says that if he had his time agin, he'd tighten the screws on spending, especially when you're making lots of money as more often that not, you'll have more leverage with suppliers, etc. Running a lean business means having a firm understanding of your costs, which in return affects everything right down to what you're charging and what you're paying your staff. We've chosen this topic to be the first of the 'Big Business' series for a reason. Enjoy. Episodes to follow: Episode 2: Building a $12,000,000 business Episode 3: How to handle negative media Episode 4: Taking money off the table...and investing it wisely.
