I've had several experts on my show talking about commercial real estate. When you talk about commercial real estate, that describes a lot of territory, everything from office buildings to warehouses to multifamily and apartments. And everything I'm hearing is that the best place to be is in apartments because people always need a place to live. It's relatively recession-proof, and to discuss that today is Eric Leyendecker, Director of Land Acquisition at Anthem Development.

What will audiology look like in 2050? In this insightful discussion, Doctors Amyn Amlani and Jason Leyendecker sit down with Dave Kemp to explore the Audiology 2050 initiative, a visionary roadmap from the Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA) aiming to elevate the profession to meet future challenges. Born from a thorough review of audiology's history and current challenges, Audiology 2050 seeks to address long-standing gaps, such as expanding audiologists' scope of practice, improving reimbursement structures, and enhancing legislative advocacy, including initiatives like MAAIA. As Dr. Amlani and Dr. Leyendecker highlight, achieving this future requires a collective effort across the profession. From advancing telehealth services to evolving licensure and training standards, they discuss the need for unified action and grassroots involvement. With a focus on professional activism and legislative progress, the Audiology 2050 initiative aims to empower audiologists to meet the growing demand for hearing care, benefiting both the profession and the millions of people it serves. Artist and illustrator J.C. Leyendecker (1874-1951) helped shape modern American visual culture as the mind behind advertising campaigns like the legendary “Arrow Collar Man.” He was also responsible for countless covers for the Saturday Evening Post—one more, in fact, than Norman Rockwell. Modern biographers also hold that Leyendecker was a gay man. Critics are now asking themselves whether his sexuality permeated into some of his most iconic commercial illustrations. You will hear about a fascinating artist – J. C. Leyendecker- who's illustrations epitomized the lifestyles of America in the early 20th century. Note: this will be a PG rated episode. His commercial art – primarily in magazines, became an iconic art style from the 1900's through the 1930's. You may not have heard the name of Leyendecker – but you can learn about his fascinating career both at an upcoming show of his works (New York Historical Society, May 5th - Aug. 13th, link) and through this podcast episode. He was also a major influence for Norman Rockwell, one of America's most beloved 20th century artists. You will learn of the evolution of Leyendecker's style – from the Paris art scene of the 1900's to then reflecting the elegant lifestyle of the 1920's that men and women strived for. But, in clever and subtle ways – his art also reflected his hidden lifestyle. Episode markers (in mins:secs)Background – J. C. Become an Ivory Tower Boiler Room Café subscriber to watch the unedited video: patreon.com/ivorytowerboilerroom Ignacio Darnaude, a queer male art historian and film producer, joins Andrew in The Ivory Tower Boiler Room to open up conversations about the queer male art world. Ignacio starts by dissecting what he has coined "Breaking the Gay Code in Art." He uses the analogy of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" to dig into why the closet has to be thrown open in the art world. For example, why do so many audience members, in his art lectures, audibly gasp when he reveals that a canonical male artist is in fact sexually interested in men. Throughout the interview, Ignacio explains the nuances of labelling a male artist or his work as "gay," "homoerotic," or "queer." And, you better be taking notes since we talk about queer art all the way from ancient Greece to the 20th century. A few key figures include Michelangelo, Donatello, Thomas Eakins, J.C. Leyendecker, and Tom of Finland. Head to our Instagram to see some of these artists and their homoerotic works. Ignacio's writing has appeared in the Gay and Lesbian Review where he has explored the queer art of Paul Cadmus, John Singer Sargent, Michelangelo, and Grant Wood. Dennis shares his experiences creating event posters. ... A native San Franciscan, Dennis graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the California College of the Arts. His knack for composition paired with his eye for color gave him a distinctive look and he was able to establish himself as an illustrator in San Francisco. Wanting to explore more opportunities as an illustrator, he moved to New York in 1980. While there, he flourished as an artist, which eventually led him to a successful career as one of the nation's top illustrators. His compelling poster images include the NFL Super Bowl XXIX and the 2006 Kentucky Derby. His paintings were featured on many well-known book covers including, the Tales of the City series by Armisted Maupin, and several covers for authors Elmore Leonard and James Lee Burke. Dennis was the featured cover artist for Hemispheres, United Airlines in-flight magazine, the National Lampoon and, more recently, Western Art Collector, American Art Collector, Southwest Art, and the Jackson Hole Traveler. Dennis' strong and richly colored images borrow much of their inspiration from early 20th century paintings and posters. His early influences, J.C. Leyendecker, N.C. Wyeth, Ludwig Hohlwein and Tom Purvis, were all master designers in composition. The demands of illustration and poster design, with its simplified, sculpturally rendered images gave Dennis the discipline and draftsmanship that gives strength to his paintings today. Dennis is not only an artist, but has taught at the California College of the Arts, the Academy of Art in San Francisco, as well as Syracuse University in New York. In 1986 he returned to his roots in California, bought property, and settled in the Sonoma wine country. About this time, Dennis turned his attention to fine art, when continuous requests of his original images were made and private paintings were commissioned. For the last 30 years, Dennis has been painting in oils for his galleries and private clients. Dennis' work is in the permanent collections of the Tucson Museum of Art, Bakersfield Museum of Art, the Booth Western Art Museum, Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West, and the Whitney Western Art Museum at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. Dennis is an Artist member of the California Art Club. AVAILABLE WORKS DENNIS ZIEMIENSKI AT BLUE RAIN PRINT SHOP ... Produced by Leah Garcia Music by Mozart Gabriel Abeyta
