Spider-Noir Review Koos en Huey bespreken deze week Spider-Noir, de nieuwe live-action Spider-Man-serie van Amazon en Sony die zich afspeelt in een alternatieve versie van het New York van de jaren 30. De serie volgt een oudere, gebroken Ben Reilly – gespeeld door Nicolas Cage – die jaren na zijn afscheid als gemaskerde held opnieuw in actie moet komen wanneer een mysterieuze zaak hem confronteert met zijn verleden. Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu Review Koos is deze week naar Pathé Schouwburgplein in Rotterdam geweest voor de IMAX-vertoning van Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu, de eerste Star Wars-film sinds The Rise of Skywalker. In de podcast bespreekt hij uitgebreid hoe de overstap van Disney+ naar het grote doek uitpakt voor Din Djarin en Grogu. De film voelt duidelijk als een voortzetting van The Mandalorian-serie, met Pedro Pascal opnieuw als Mando en Jon Favreau en Dave Filoni stevig aan het roer van het verhaal. Tegelijkertijd roept de film ook vragen op over de toekomst van Star Wars in de bioscoop: werkt deze meer episodische stijl wel als volwaardige blockbuster? Koos deelt zijn ervaringen met de IMAX-presentatie, de actie, de muziek van Ludwig Göransson en de ontvangst van de film, die wisselende reviews kreeg ondanks sterke reacties op Pascal en de sfeer van de Star Wars-wereld. Peter Jackson wil meer Lord of the Rings films maken Peter Jackson lijkt nog lang niet klaar te zijn met Middle-earth. Terwijl The Hunt for Gollum en Shadow of the Past al in ontwikkeling zijn bij Warner Bros., laat Jackson nu doorschemeren dat hij nóg grotere Tolkien-verhalen naar het witte doek wil brengen. Volgens de regisseur raken de appendices van The Lord of the Rings langzaam uitgeput en wil hij liever aan de slag met “meatier” materiaal zoals The Silmarillion en Unfinished Tales. Dat zou gigantisch nieuws zijn voor Tolkien-fans, want die verhalen bevatten enorme oorlogen, mythologische figuren en de diepste lore van Middle-earth die we tot nu toe nauwelijks in live-action hebben gezien. Peter Jackson heeft tijdens het filmfestival van Cannes bevestigd dat hij actief werkt aan een vervolg op The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn uit 2011. Volgens Jackson schrijft hij momenteel samen met Fran Walsh aan het script, zelfs vanuit zijn hotelkamer in Cannes. De afspraak met Steven Spielberg was altijd dat Spielberg de eerste film zou regisseren en Jackson de tweede, maar dat project bleef jarenlang hangen in development limbo. Mogelijk wordt de sequel gebaseerd op Prisoners of the Sun, het iconische Inca-verhaal uit de Kuifje-strips, al is dat nog niet bevestigd. Mocht de film daadwerkelijk doorgaan, dan wordt dit Jacksons eerste speelfilm sinds The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies uit 2015. Goedkoper Netflix abonnement in Nederland Netflix gaat vanaf volgend jaar ook in Nederland een goedkoper abonnement met reclame aanbieden. Daarmee volgt de streamingdienst dezelfde strategie als concurrenten als Disney+, HBO Max en Videoland, die inmiddels allemaal goedkopere advertentie-abonnementen hebben geïntroduceerd. In landen als Duitsland en Frankrijk bestaat deze optie al langer, waar kijkers advertenties te zien krijgen voor en tijdens films en series. Opvallend, want jarenlang was juist het volledig reclamevrije model één van Netflix’ grootste verkooppunten. De exacte Nederlandse prijs is nog niet bekend, maar in Duitsland kost het reclame-abonnement momenteel €4,99 tegenover €13,99 voor reclamevrij kijken. Vooral Karl Urban als Johnny Cage lijkt volgens veel fans een absolute scene stealer te zijn. Tegelijkertijd blijft de film trouw aan de over-the-top videogame roots, inclusief cheesy oneliners, absurde actie en gigantische lore dumps. Huey deelt zijn spoiler-vrije indrukken over de gevechten, de toon van de film en waarom Mortal Kombat II misschien wel de meest “videogame-ass videogamefilm” in jaren is geworden. Andy Serkis hoopt Voldermort te worden in Harry Potter De casting van Lord Voldemort blijft één van de grootste vraagtekens rond HBO’s nieuwe Harry Potter-serie, en inmiddels heeft nóg een opvallende naam interesse getoond: Andy Serkis. De acteur achter iconische rollen als Gollum, Caesar en Snoke zegt zelfs bereid te zijn “zijn neus af te hakken” om de rol van Voldemort te spelen. Het is vooral interessant omdat Serkis precies het soort acteur is dat volledig kan verdwijnen in een personage. Met namen als Peter Ocko en James Wan in de mix lijkt de basis sterk, maar na eerdere mislukte pogingen is dit er één om voorzichtig in de gaten te houden.
