Fifteen years ago, we saw the release of one of THE most surprising word-of-mouth hits of the 21st Century and that was this straightforward action thriller directed by Pierre Morel. It starred Oscar Nominee Liam Neeson as Brian Mills, an ex-spy/assassin with a "particular set of skills" who has just found out that his teenage daughter (Maggie Grace) was "taken" while on vacation with her friend in Paris. So he then single-handedly embarks on a dangerous mission to not only find her but to bring her kidnappers to justice. :o And what results is a memorable series of sequences featuring our hero taking out the (Euro) Trash. ;) Will Brian find his daughter before it's too late?? Luc Besson y su Europacorp volvieron al parkour tras Yamakasi (2001) con una película más acorde a la exploitation de ciencia ficción clásica, con un extrarradio de París casi postapocalíptico lleno de bandas y gente dando volteretas por los tejados.

This is a controversial one because this episode's subject FREELANCE (2023) is not currently on our bible: the official 0% list. It was, briefly, but a couple late reviews came in which pumped it to 7%. We cover those in the episode. This potato stars wrestler John Cena and Alison Brie (best known as Annie on Community) and was directed by frenchman Pierre Morel, best known as the director of the Liam Neeson movie Taken. Only a few movies left on the official bible of 0%ers!!! As always, we're on facebook and Instagram and YouTube and you can email us at trulyrottentomatoes@gmail.com

People keep asking me “Where is your Freelance review”? You seriously thought I was going to sit down and write a review of this? There was no way I was going to spend more time writing a review than they actually spent writing Freelance. The only way I was going to review it was by talking it out with my homie, Chris Bumbray of Joblo.com, like the two seasoned pros that we are.So this entire episode is about Freelance, which stars John Cena, Alison Brie, and is directed by Pierre Morel, director of one of the greatest action movies ever, District B13. But because this is us and Freelance is a “special” kind of movie, we go off on a few tangents so excuse us.Enjoy this bit of silly fun.Subscribe to Punch Drunk Critics on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@PunchDrunkCritics1Follow Punch Drunk Critics on Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/pdcmoviesFollow Punch Drunk Critics on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pdcmoviesYou can also subscribe to Cinema Royale anywhere you get your podcasts! Prepare for an adrenaline-fueled thrill ride! Join the Born to Watch team as we revisit the heart-pounding action and relentless determination o of the 2008 hit film, Taken. Get ready to be on the edge of your seat all over again.Released in 2008, Taken is a pulse-pounding action thriller that showcases the talents of Liam Neeson in one of his most iconic roles. Directed by Pierre Morel and written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, the film catapulted Neeson into the action genre spotlight and became a box office success. Known for its intense action sequences, gripping storyline, and Neeson's commanding presence, Taken has since become a modern classic in the genre. In this review, we will delve into the film's strengths, weaknesses, and overall impact.Taken introduces us to Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson), a retired CIA operative whose life takes a dramatic turn when his daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace), is kidnapped by a sex trafficking ring while on vacation in Paris. The plot unfolds with relentless momentum as Bryan races against time to rescue his daughter before she disappears forever. The film stands out for its tightly woven narrative, delivering a simple yet effective premise that keeps the audience engaged throughout. Bryan's transformation from a loving father to a relentless avenger is expertly portrayed, making him a highly relatable and sympathetic character. The film's exploration of the dark underbelly of human trafficking serves as a sobering reminder of the real-world issue it tackles.Liam Neeson's portrayal of Bryan Mills is nothing short of phenomenal. His on-screen presence is magnetic, as he effortlessly embodies the role of a seasoned, yet vulnerable, father on a mission. Neeson's deep voice, stoic demeanor, and unwavering determination lend an air of authenticity to the character, making his actions and the stakes feel real.Neeson's performance is emotionally charged, effectively conveying Bryan's desperation and determination to save his daughter. His delivery of the iconic phone call monologue, in which he threatens the kidnappers, has become one of the most memorable moments in action movie history. Neeson's physicality and intense fight sequences further highlight his versatility as an action star.Taken excels in delivering adrenaline-fueled action sequences that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Director Pierre Morel masterfully crafts intense and gritty scenes, incorporating a frenetic pace that perfectly matches the urgency of Bryan's mission. The hand-to-hand combat, chase scenes, and shootouts are expertly choreographed, displaying a raw and visceral energy. The film's editing deserves praise for its seamless transitions and well-timed cuts, heightening the tension and intensifying the impact of each action sequence. The cinematography captures the dark and gritty atmosphere of Paris, showcasing both the beauty and the danger lurking beneath the surface.Taken benefits from a solid supporting cast that enhances the film's overall quality. Famke Janssen delivers a heartfelt performance as Lenore, Bryan's ex-wife and Kim's mother. Although her screen time is limited, her character provides emotional depth to Bryan's motivations. The antagonists, led by Olivier Rabourdin's Detective Franck Dotzler, are suitably menacing, portraying the cold and ruthless nature of the sex trafficking ring. The film doesn't delve deeply into their motivations, but they serve their purpose as formidable adversaries for Bryan.Taken remains a standout action thriller that has left an indelible mark on the genre. The film's compelling storyline, Liam Neeson's commanding performance, and high-octane action sequences come together to create an enthralling piece of cinema that will stand the test of time. Please follow the Podcast and join our community at https://linktr.ee/borntowatchpodcast If you are looking to start a podcast and want a host or get guests to pipe in remotely, look no further than Riverside.fmClick the link below https://riverside.fm/?utm_campaign=campaign_1&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=rewardful&via=matthew

linktr.ee/CatchingUpOnCinema This February at Catching Up On Cinema is “NOT Made in America” month! All month long we'll be reviewing foreign films that have garnered American remakes. This week, Trevor forces Kyle to join him in reviewing Pierre Morel's, District B13 (2004)! The feature directorial debut of Luc Besson protege Morel, this French import is notable for serving as one of the earliest and most prominent showcases of parkour in mainstream film. Starring one of the founders of the art form, David Belle, as well as fellow as traceur and stunt maestro Cyril Raffaelli, the film is lean, fast paced, and occasionally breathtaking in instances where the dialogue takes a backseat to acrobatics and techno music. While far from perfect, and difficult to recommend to all but the most ardent of action movie fans, the film is nevertheless memorable as an important bullet point in the history and progression of trends mid-2000's action cinema. Welcome everyone to another episode of Nerds Amalgamated, we would like to take a moment and congratulate all those who are graduating university, school, or just having an excellent week. “The pursuit of knowledge is never ending. The day you stop seeking knowledge is the day you stop growing. Brandon Travis Ciaccio.” So, no we have set a serious mood let’s look at the first topic, which is that video games are an excellent way to combat loneliness. Also, that video games are helpful for men to combat issues such as social isolation and stress for men in today’s society. That’s right, read that correctly, video games are beneficial to men’s health and should be encouraged. What to know more to help develop those arguments for the girlfriend or boss, listen in and find out what we are talking about.Next up Buck has decided to bring us a mystery to try and solve. Now who doesn’t love a good puzzle? If like Buck you love sitting down with a crossword, a Sudoku or reading a good detective novel then you will love this. We have a mystery that is 500 hundred years old, has some of the most baffling elements and to top it off has stumped many professional investigators over the years. We are talking about a mass murder that struck fear in the hearts of the population of England. This is a mystery that is guaranteed to get you remembered in history if you solve it. Want to know what Buck has unveiled for us to ponder, listen in and find out.Now Ben Affleck is not someone who we get excited about, in fact he makes Buck yawn at the mere mention of his name. In fact I just yawned at the thought, crikey why are we talking about him? Well, it appears that he has a movie in the works that is looking kind of good, it is a topic that we hope he does justice to. Now we know that Hollywood has failed to deliver anything great for some time now, but this story has potential. We aren’t going to hold our breathe, and not just because of Benny boy of the sleep inducing performance. The reality is that the story is one that needs to be told with a sensitivity and care that is hard to deliver. This is something the likes of Spielberg should be directing. They published their first book featuring the Berenstain Bears, The Big Honey Hunt, in 1962. At the time, their inspiration, Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss), was working as an editor in the children's division of Random House Publishing and eagerly approved the concept. To paraphrase the legendary CIA operative Charlie Wax (John Travolta), From Paris with Love is a straight up Hong Kong, Shaw Brothers Kung Fu show with guns, drugs, and action galore. It is a film that pulls absolutely no punches. With a body county only surpassed by Travolta's gratuitous use of the F-word, From Paris with Love cares very little for who it offends or for how outlandish its narrative is. It is every bit in the vein of an 80s/90s action movie, and I love every minute of it. That admiration is due in large part to Travolta's performance as Wax. He owns this movie, delivering every piece of dialogue with marvelous flair. Without him, From Paris with Love wouldn't amount to much. He takes the asinine violence and sprinkles it with a necessary charisma, creating a rip-roaring thrill ride of broken bones, witticisms, and bullets. Directed by Pierre Morel, who hit it big in the U.S. with Taken, and with a story written by Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, Leon: The Professional, to name a few), the movie had the pedigree to be a major success at the box office and with fans. Unfortunately, it didn't hit on either front. It bombed with critics/viewers—it sits at just 38% on Rotten Tomatoes with 160 reviews and carries a 54% user score—and was a disappointment financially, grossing just over $52 million with a budget of the same amount. But you should ignore all that. This movie came to kick butt and chew bubblegum; and guess what? It was all out of bubble gum! So sit back, grab a Kronenbourg 1664, and enjoy a delectable Royale with cheese as I the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK) and Chumpzilla run roughshod through Paris! This Week’s Segments: Introduction – We break down this action masterpiece, dissecting Travolta's best lines, the finest set piece/kill of the film, and more. (00:00) Wax on, Wax Off – Chumpzilla and I discuss how these other legendary Travolta characters would fare in a fight with Charlie Wax. (36:36) Recommendations – We provide our picks for the week and look forward to the next installment of Travolta Month—The Fanatic. (48:23) And, as always, hit us up on Twitter or Facebook to check out all the interesting factoids—the insane kill count and more—from this week’s episode!

Self healing materials sound like science fiction, but how can we turn them into a reality? What does self healing even mean? We dive into the material science of self healing systems to find out what mechanism are used and how you can make a material heal. Plus we find out how you can make a self healing material out of common plastics using one of the weakest forces. Plus how scientists test and assess different materials including using....a crockmeter.References: Marek W. Urban, Dmitriy Davydovich, Ying Yang, Tugba Demir, Yunzhi Zhang, Leah Casabianca. It's a fascinating episode of BEHIND THE LENS as we dig deep into the 4th Annual SLAMDANCE DIG with our guest, co-founder and curator of the media showcase, DEKKER DREYER. Then we go in-depth with writer/director/editor ANDREW ROWE talking about his new film CROWN AND ANCHOR. But before we get to today's special guests, take a listen to our exclusive interview with PEPPERMINT director, PIERRE MOREL. From action to locations to cinematography to the importance of color and sound, we dig into one of the hottest action films of the year. It's very exciting having DEKKER DREYER join us for this episode. He's a writer, director, producer, artist, and he loves to push the envelope with visionary melding of live performance, film, digital and interactive media; something that is the core of SLAMDANCE DIG. A showcase FREE TO THE PUBLIC in Los Angeles on September 13, 14 and 15 in the LA Arts Collective and Ace Hotel, Dekker talks about the founding of the showcase as the "next step" beyond the Slamdance Film Festival, the concept, the type of "art and technology" involved in the various exhibits, the interactive nature of them, not to mention the various panels being presented which are also open to the public. Then ANDREW ROWE joins us talking about his first feature film, CROWN AND ANCHOR. Already opening to critical and public acclaim, listen as Andrew talks about story development, the visual design and working with his cinematographer, the use of punk rock for the soundtrack and how the music serves to help define and craft each of the two main characters, crafting not only two integral character studies but the world in which they exist and then developing distinguishing differentials, and of course, casting and working with a veteran like Stephen McHattie. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

The Ringer's Bill Simmons and Shea Serrano have "a very special set of skills" that allow them to rewatch and celebrate 2008's action thriller 'Taken' starring Liam Neeson and directed by Pierre Morel.
