Gang doch ga ping pong. Drinking Song ? Irgend was von Gotthard ?  War sonst noch was - nei wirklich a tollä Hengert xi - Merci Alexandra u bis zum Theater im November in Salgesch !

Back again and, after flirting with a hiatus, clearly looking to make up for lost time. A simple episode on Regions of the world very quickly became an out of control epic. Overrunning, Wadsack unleashed, the episode went into hyperdrive and so has been edited into two parts. This, the first, deftly weaves the journeys of some grapes throughout the world. From the Dynastic Carmenet family of grapes to the more parochial Zinfandel and Pinotage. From Bordeaux to California, via South Africa with stop-overs in Italy and others. When I say 'deftly' it obviously does stop us from some rambling through Mad Men and Liverpool FC on a couple horses of the Apocalypse… Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ok, let's be honest. Pinotage is a TRIP. It is like no other wine we have ever had before, and is flat out an experience that you have to try. You may not love it, or even like it, but you have to try it. Especially the Coffee Pinotage which in and of itself is an adventure (and is really a thing)! Pinotage is a wine that was invented in South Africa about 100 years ago, and is considered its signature wine. A cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, it has a smell and taste that is unique, interesting, and hard to pin down. Take from that what you will. In this episode, we discuss the wine industry in South Africa, which is bigger than you may think, and give some history about the wine. But mostly we taste and review Pinotage, and, to be transparent, we do not hold back on what we really think. Don't worry - it's pretty fun! Are you curious about new South African wine styles and regions to try? What do most people misunderstand about Pinotage wine? Is it really necessary to spit when doing a wine tasting? In this episode of the Unreserved Wine Talk podcast, I'm chatting with international wine and spirit judge Dr. Winnie Bowman. You can find the wines we discussed at https://www.nataliemaclean.com/winepicks   Highlights How can you distinguish between competition medal values and avoid misleading wine labels? What was it like for Winnie to teach hotel students who were reluctant to spit during wine tasting? Which aspects of the South African wine industry would probably surprise you? How did certain wine regions in South Africa transform their reputations and become highly sought-after? Where did some of the misconceptions around Pinotage originate and what are the facts? What does Winnie love about Creation Glenn's Chardonnay and what can you expect when tasting? Why should South Africa be on your must-visit list of wine regions?   Key Takeaways I loved listening to Winnie talk about new South African wine styles and regions to try as well as the fact that the country gets so many sunshine hours for ripening and deepening flavour. I appreciated her background on the Pinotage grape and that it's not the robust wine that many people assume it is, and can be quite elegant. This episode is the second half of our conversation with Jolandie Fouché of Wolf & Woman Wines. If you haven't listened to part 1, I would encourage you to go back and do so before listening to this one. In this episode, we talk about Jolandie's wines and her experiences in the South African wine industry. Here's a preview: "The other day, somebody asked me, "Do you actually want to be a serious winemaker?" ...You would never receive that kind of comment in you were a man. Never, ever, ever, ever." We left off the first episode hearing about how Jolandie took the jump into doing Wolf and Woman full time, and how prior to that, she was still the head winemaker for Kloovenburg and doing Wolf and Woman on the side. One of the stipulations that Kloovenburg gave her was that she couldn't produce any varieties that they produced, and that basically left her with three red cultivars, one of which was Pinotage. But as well all know, Pinotage has historically been a hit or miss variety, and most of what was on the market at that time was a miss...   Hosted by Charlotte Alsaadi. Today's episode is with Jolandie Fouché of Wolf and Woman Wines based in Swartland, South Africa. These wines, which we imported for the first time last year, were an instant success. They're absolutely phenomenal varietal wines, and the range includes Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Rose, Pinotage, and Syrah. After more than a decade of earning her stripes in the South African wine industry, Jolandie decided to turn her attention to her passion project, Wolf & Woman Wines, fulltime. Shortly after releasing her maiden vintage in 2018, Jolandie's Chenin Blanc won the Tim Atkin White Wine Discovery of the Year award, and her 2019 Chenin was awarded as a Chenin Champion by Jancis Robinson in the Financial Times alongside some of the well established names like the Sadie Family, Chris Alheit, the Mullineuxs. Jolandie's wines, as their name implies, are wild. I think they're some of the most energetic wines in our book, and just like a dog that ressembles its owner, I think that energy is a reflection of Jolandie. She's without a doubt one of the most exciting new wave producers to watch from South Africa. Her interview is split up into two parts. Part 1 focuses on her background, and part 2 focuses on the wines and her experiences in the South African wine industry. I really, really encourage you to listen to both. In this episode, you'll hear how Jolandie went from being the head winemaker at Kloovenberg to taking her side hustle full-time. Keep in mind that this was during the middle of the pandemic, when South Africa was going through alcohol sales, bans and lockdowns, and on top of that, Jolandie had just had her first child. Keep listening to find out how she channeled her inner wolf to keep going...     Hosted by Charlotte Alsaadi. It's kind of a Cinderella wine in that it is underappreciated and nobody really understands just how beautiful it is. AND IT IS! I've had it through several vintages over the years and good vintage or bad vintage, it's always a great wine, which is why I featured it in Volume 1. I've met Jennifer many times over the years but Kent only on the odd occasion. As a small winery we can put more time, attention, and care into our wines (than the larger wineries can afford to, really). So in order to make wines of the highest quality, we: 1. Select vineyards that are farmed with the greatest level of care. 2. Focus on single varietal and single vineyard. Single vineyard allows us to focus on "the place" the grapes are farmed and single varietal will show how each varietal is affected by that place (i.e. soil and microclimate). 3. Keep lots small. This provides the opportunity for gentle processing with minimal intervention. (This also grants us the freedom to have a little more fun with experimentation which, in theory, should result in more complex and interesting wines.) And finally, 4. (the most important) We put our hearts and souls into the making of this wine.It was my first harvest —interning in 2009—when my heart first fell in love. Picking Pinot Noir at the Santa Maria Gold Coast Vineyard before the sun came up. My fingers were freezing and for hours we picked and sorted. I listened closely that morning to the theories behind the growth and life of the vine. Being that connected to the earth was inspiring. Then, for three and a half years (2010-2013), I apprenticed at Sanguis, where I gained much more wine knowledge.Every decision and action, no matter how small they seemed, were of extreme importance to the outcome of the wine. The harvesting of grapes, all parts of the fermentation process (wether technical or artful), stirring of the lees, topping, racking...heck, even the stacking and lining up of barrels became a meditation of sorts. (Yes, by the way, this girl can operate a fork-lift.) And although times like re-coiling the hose over and over again might have seemed silly, it helped train me. I learned intention. My time there helped me grow an understanding and appreciation for meticulous dedication to detail and style. It was at Sanguis where I saved my pennies to journey out and buy my own fruit. In 2012, while working there, I made my first vintage and began learning on a deeper level. That path of my wine-making adventure was just starting. Today, utilizing what I was taught, it is my goal to continue working with remarkable vineyards. In discovering their nuances I hope to help guide each varietal to make a wine that will show a sense of place and style. And of course to always keep learning. Growing. Discovering. Thank you for joining me in this journey...

A Merlot grape grown in the warmer climate of Napa is going to be rich and full-bodied.  In Anne's cache of wine, the greater majority of her few hundreds of bottles are from France.  Though the rest of her collection are from all over the world.  Her least favorite wines are from a small variety in South Africa called Pinotage.  She personally does not prefer the smokiness that compares to a barbeque.    There is a No-Low alcohol-free movement in the UK and has several respectable brands.  Though spirits, beers, and sparkling wine have made a lot of progress in quality, still wine faces the challenge of achieving the balance and texture that comes from alcohol.  There is a lot of research focussed on making  no-low alcohol options that would be desirable to drink.  More Tips from a Wine Master  Shop at a local wine merchant and develop a relationship with them.  The merchants have gone to great lengths to source their wine and know about each bottle on the shelf.    Use wine apps like Vivino.  Check labels or wine descriptions to learn the words and language that are used to describe wines that you already enjoy.  Use them to communicate to sommeliers and merchants to find similar types so you can explore something different.    About Anne  Anne is based in London where she is a wine communicator, consultant, and educator.  In 2016, she founded her consultancy and education business where her massive experience and expertise led her to craft her direction in life around wine and her passions. She designs wine lists and works as an ambassador for brands and wine regions.  She offers wine education at all levels from her signature program called Diploma Therapy for WSET diploma students to wine series on Instagram.  She is involved with the Institute of Masters of Wine and many other notable wine organizations.  Enjoy the Podcast?  If you enjoyed today's episode of The Heidi B Show, then hit subscribe, and share it with your friends!  Post a review and share it!  If you enjoyed tuning into this podcast, then do not hesitate to write a review.  You can also share this episode with your womenpreneur family and friends, so they can get closer to owning their power and upgrading their lives.   Have any questions?  You can contact me through email (heidi@heidibcoaching.com) or find me on Instagram or Facebook.  Thanks for listening!  For more updates and episodes, visit my website.  You may also tune in on Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, or Spotify.  To pursuing our passions and building our businesses,  Heidi B
