Can You Feel It?It's July, 1989 and the temperature is hot! Actually, for a lot of the UK it surprisingly was, but let's leave meteorological memories aside, we're talking the dancefloor. The country, the WHOLE nation was completely right on one, matey. Well maybe not the entire nation, but there was no doubt that the BPMs were sweeping the nation much quicker than the BSB squarial was in the last summer of the eighties. As 1988 became 1989, the underground was rapidly moving overground. The house sound of Chicago and Detroit had landed on our sceptred isle and we were making it out own. Artists such as The Beatmasters, Coldcut and Mark Moore's S-Express had stamped their authority on the charts and across the country as teens were pouring over Smash Hits for the lyrics of Inner City tracks and swapping mixtapes of the latest grooves. And, NOW That's What I Call Music were THERE!Well, yes they were, but that's not the whole story. Get on the dancefloor legendary compilers K-tel and new variously compiled whippershappers from Telstar, who (for once) were ahead of the compilation curve. Albums series such as Deep Heat (in those large cassette boxes Discog fans!) were bringing the cool kids a real mix of dance, hip hop and sounds from both sides of the Atlantic. So what did our friends at EMI/Virgin do? What they always do - respond, and then some!Join author, journalist, compiler and all round dance music fanatic Joe Muggs as we revisit the explosive dancefloor culture of summer 1989 though the lens of NOW Dance 89. Rediscover some iconic tracks from Inner City, Soul II Soul and Coldcut. Remember (because you may have forgotten) the VERY 89 sound of Hip House with the likes of The Cookie Crew, Merlin and (awesome super duper) Tyree. Find out how NOW navigated a groove between the mainstream and the emerging underground through some amazing 12” mixes and laid a blueprint for the impending sound of the 90s, and indeed an unavoidable cultural shift into the next century of pop and beyond. And if that wasn't enough, find out which dance icon Joe sought out an autograph from, how the legendary producer Youth may have missed a chance to be on The Fast Show, which track brings tears to mothers eyes at Big Fish Little Fish discos and why we need the uplifting and uniting experience of house music now more than ever.People, hold on! TRUE HOUSE STORIES® W/ PHIL FULDNER # 118 INTERVIEWED BY LENNY FONTANA One of Germany's longest-serving DJs and producers, Phil Fuldner is a Kosmonaut. In other words, he belongs to that elite group of performers -- such as Tom Novy, Eniac, and DJ Moguai -- who've signed on with Germany's ultra hip Kosmo Records label. Fuldner first hit the big time in 1997 thanks to the single "The Final" -- a remake of the old "Captain Future Hymn." A massive success on dance charts all over Europe, the release was a tandem effort with DJ Moguai, with whom Fuldner has had a long association dating back to the pre-Kosmo times. In 1998, he had a go at covering the retro-classic "S-Express" -- the theme to the S-Express TV show -- and the result was yet another dance chart topper in Germany. During the next couple of years, Fuldner was busy in the studio producing and remixing a host of popular compilation albums, working with such big names as Timo Maas, Judge Jules, and Yves Deruyter.

This exciting episode of Electronically Yours features Mark Moore, an in-demand DJ and producer for over thirty years. An early pioneer of House music in mid-80s London, he formed the band S'Express with the number one hit ‘The Theme from S-Express'. Mark Moore is a respected and loved character, who is deeply-ingrained in the history of UK club culture, and is hugely influential on both dance and pop music. Ladies and Gentlemen, he's a superfly guy, the superb Mark Moore... If you can, please support the Electronically Yours podcast via my Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/electronicallyours

We can rest easy now, our elected officials are considering passing a bill to put the blame on someone else for high fuel prices. We'll be talking about that in this episode of FBTV Podcast. In addition to politics, the FMCSA expands Covid-19 HOS waiver, Mayor Pete (we sure talk about him a lot) declares that they'll do anything to tear down walls to get goods moving, 70 U.S Express employees have been laid off, and why you shouldn't continuously call 9-1-1 because you believe the President should be arrested. Seriously. The topic of this FBTV Podcast is a brokers “do not load” list. What is it? When to add to it? How to get on it? Is it for shippers? Carriers? Both? The FBTV Podcast can now be seen (and heard) on YouTube as a live stream every Saturday morning starting at 9A.M. Central Time. The live stream is available to the public then the topic from that FBTV Podcast will be made available as a stand-alone Freight Broker TV YouTube Video. If you miss the live stream, you can still listen to the FBTV Podcast on your favorite podcast app as soon as it drops (normally within 24 hours). FBTV from TALTOA. I don´t always need to be hardcore underground electro banging, I can be pop and synthie and wavey as well! My dearest sister, Amy TNT, gave me the opportunity to play at her Perlon Party. Of course, you can´t go too hard on people who actually love Madonna and Kylie Minogue, so this is my Perlon Kosmic Kitten Set, a cosmic synth pop set like a mild cosmic breeze on a gay adult movie set on a tropical island on Neptune. Enjoy it! Tracklist: 1. Soviet - Keep Fit Electro 2. Donna Summer - Bad Girls (Boys Noize Club Mix) 3. Róisín Murphy - Incapable (Dimitri from Paris and Aeroplane Remix) 4. Old School Pop/Rock/Hip Hop/Funk/Soul/House. This one's all over the place in terms of styles... It's a recording of a live party mix for Matt & Mel's wedding reception guests... And it's pretty solid in terms of execution apart from having to deal with a few drunken guests attacking the DJ booth (Volvo Tom & Steve O'Neill) but these bits add to the flavour... Anyhow take a look at the tracklist: it's pretty diverse... A balancing act between playing songs people know and keeping it fun to mix and playing a bunch of genres in one set... 3 hours of party tunes including one unknown random speed garage track from Tony near the end... Here's to married life! George Baker - Little Green Bag, Marvin Gaye - Got To Give It Up, Robin Thicke & Pharrell Williams - Blurred Lines, Mark Ronson - Uptown Funk (feat. Bruno Mars), Rick James - Super Freak, MC Hammer - You Can't Touch This, Michael Jackson - Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough (original demo from 1978), Michael Jackson - Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Ennio Moricone - The Good, The Bad And The Ugly (Main Theme), David Bowie - Fashion, Daryl Hall & John Oates - I Can't Go For That (No Can Do), Snap - The Power, Led Zeppelin Vs. TIGER STRIPES on: - Facebook: www.facebook.com/tigerstripesmusic - SoundCloud: @tiger-stripes - Instagram: www.instagram.com/tigerstripesmusic/ HOW I MET THE BASS on: - Facebook: www.facebook.com/howimetthebass - Twitter: www.twitter.com/howimetthebass - Mixcloud: www.mixcloud.com/HowIMetTheBass 3 QUESTIONS to TIGER STRIPES: Q: Lets talk about your mix. It´s quite much of Breakbeats in the early days. So how did you meet the bass? Yes I tried to include artist’s and styles music production that has been leading the way to how my music is sounding today. A: After listening to synth pop, new wave and Italo Disco as a 10 year old, I met the deeper bass in the end of 1980’s discovering act’s from a mixture of the Brittish and US dance scene’s. I bought every release from a series of compilations called ”Deep Heat” where act’s like S’Express and Humanoid shared vinyl with deeper US house pioneers like Mr Fingers, Joe Smooth and early Detroit techno from the likes of Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May. I was living in a tiny place but took the train to the bigger cities that had record stores selling dance music. The guy behind the desk would hand me hand me act's I’ve included in my mix, like Soul II Soul and Shamen. I moved on from this to Hip Hop being obsessed with collecting Public Enemy. I had made some dance music on the Atari we had at my school and I had some cheap synthesizers at home but with guitar as my main instrument it wasn’t until I heard Stone Roses ”Fools Gold” I found a scene that I felt I could be part of as a musician. So inspired by all the Madchester bands as well as guitar bands like My Bloody Valentine I started my own Indie band and got my first record deal. At this time I also started to DJ, keeping my love for dance music intact. I started a club night playing Northern Soul and Rare groove as a DJ and went on forward to DJ House and Techno. I was doing big club nights in Stockholm every weekend bringing in DJ’s like Kerri Chandler, François Kevorkian and DJ Deep. And this is also when I started to produce House and Techno. So yeah, things has just moved on from those days to where I am today. Q: You´re a pioneer of the modern music industry, releasing music for about 15 years yet. How would you describe your own development? A: Most of my first DJ heroes were very eclectic, mixing up soulful House tracks with Detroit Techno and throwing in some classics in the mix as well. So right from the start I was producing both electronic and organic stuff. I wanted to do everything at the same time I guess, and sometimes it got a bit confusing. But through the years my sound has melted together a little bit. I still do House but with a touch of Techno and I still do Techno but with a touch of house but everything sounds like Tiger Stripes. I feel it took me 10 years of producing until I fully understood how to produce dance music. And I actually feel I have never been better than right here, right now. Q: Which future TS projects are on the way, what can we expect for 2019? A: I never plan that far ahead and right now I have not got a single release in the pipeline. But once I have a good idea I’m a quick worker. All my best tracks are more or less made in a day or two. And I’m lucky to have some of the best labels in the world standing more or less ready to listen when I have something ready to play. I also run my own label, Strange Idols and so far I have released great music from artists like The Persuader, Markus Enochson, VONDA7 and Kristin Velvet to name a few. But I have not released an original Tiger Stripes track. So for the 10th release, SIR010, I’m planning to release a collaboration between myself and Markus Enochson. He has made some really cool sounds and recorded some top vocals and now we will put our brains together and make a full track out of it. Stay tuned!

Joey Negro is the most well-known pseudonym of master British DJ/producer/remixer Dave Lee. Under a plethora of other monikers including Akabu, Doug Willis, The Sunburst Band, Jakatta, Raven Maize, Sessomatto, and Z Factor, Dave was one of the first artists to incorporate disco samples in house music when he began his production career in 1988. Indeed, he was in the studio making credible British House music when many luminaries around him were still busy getting to grips with their decks. Little has changed since then and Dave is still widely regarded as one of the forefathers of the UK dance scene who is still as productive as ever in the studio and behind the decks most weekends. A producer first, his work ethic is legendry, having been involved in well over 300 productions, countless albums and a healthy stack of pop crossover hit singles with tracks such as ‘Must Be The Music’, ‘Make A Move On Me’ and Jakatta’s ‘American Dream” making the UK Top 10. Dave has also been commissioned to remix the likes of Kelly Rowland, Empire of the Sun, Mariah Carey, Labrynth, Pet Shop Boys, Diana Ross and many many more. He also conceived and produced the UK number 1 “Relight My Fire” by Take That. However, despite the crossover successes the majority of Dave’s productions have had the heart in underground clubland – with releases on many seminal house music labels – Transmat, Nu Groove, Quark, JBO, Azuli, Deconstruction Guidance & NRK. Intrinsically linked with the birth of house in the UK, Dave Lee set up the dance music division of Rough Trade, Demix in 1986 and through this link, he began working with the Rhythm King label, which had had a number of hits with acts like Bomb The Bass, S-Express, Cookie Crew and Beatmasters. This experience and intimacy with other leading house labels led to him establishing his own imprint, Republic Records, in 1988. Now defunct, Republic was one of the UK’s first soulful house label releasing classics such as Phase II “Reachin” and Turntable Orchestra “You’re Gonna Miss Me” - as well as some early productions of his own like Raven Maize “Forever Together” Joey Negro, as an entity, was born in 1990 with the release of “Do It Believe It’ on US cult house label Nu Groove. When struggling for an act name Dave flicked through a pile of records next to his desk and ending up putting together Pal Joey and J Walter Negro - “I thought it sounded like a cool hispanic New York guy, I certainly never envisaged I’d be answering to the name Joey 25 years later”. The track was a breakthrough success and was followed by ‘Do What You Feel’, which was released on his second label and successor to Republic, Z Records. ‘Do What You Feel’ eventually crossed from a club hit to a top 40 pop hit on Virgin Records. Another Top 40 track followed with “Love Fantasy” and an album “Universe of Love” with guest appearances from disco acts The Trammps and Gwen Gutherie. Throughout the 90/00’s Dave delivered a constant stream of productions and remixes with tracks like his “Can’t Get High Without U” and Z Factor “Gotta Keep Pushin” (used as the theme for Ibiza Uncovered) becoming anthems on the dancefloor. These days his label ZR is not only a vehicle for him to release his own music but has become a very cool brand featuring productions and remixes from both cutting edge and established producers like Dennis Ferrer, Jimpster, Henrik Schwarz, The Revenge and Frankie Knuckles. Dave’s work producing live disco act The Sunburst Band has been the source of much praise and adoration. Their fourth album ‘The Secret Life of Us’ from 2012 was yet another power house of all things soul, jazz, and funk featuring a host of live musicians and vocalists has been widely regarded as the strongest Sunburst album yet. The LP topped the Solar Sweet rhythms for over 2 months (a record), Starpoint Soul chart, Amazon Funk chart and has received across the board props. The band continue to tour around the world on a regular basis. Dave has remained an avid vinyl collector and has put together many genre defining compilations – ‘Disco (Not Disco)’ (Strut), ‘Joey Negro In The House’ (Defected), ‘Disco Spectrum’ Vol.1–3 (BBE), ‘Jumpin’ 1& 2 (Harmless), Southport Weekender Volume 1, ‘Nite:Life’ and ‘Back In The Box’ (NRK) ‘The Trip’ (Family Records) ‘The Voyage – Excursions into Early House’ (X Treme) & ‘Lust: Art & Soul’ (Susu). Whilst on ZR he’s compiled ‘Destination Boogie’, ‘Locked In The Vinyl Cellar’, ‘Supafunkanova’ ‘The Soul of Disco’ (Vol.1-3), ‘Back Street Brit Funk’ and the latest labour of love ‘GoGo Get Down’ that focused on Washington DC GoGo funk, all of which continue to further cement him as one of the UK’s foremost musical authorities. Not wanting to hog all the limelight, Dave has started the ‘Under The Influence’ series on ZR which gives a platform to some of the worlds most serious record collectors – unknown names who’ve spent their lives collecting music and have the knowledge to put together a wicked selection on previously unheard music. His discography is undoubtedly impressive and his deep understanding as a selector of all things disco and house on the dancefloor have ensured his status on the global DJ circuit worldwide to this day. Joey Negro's dj sets reflect his extensive love of music ranging from rare disco through to vocal and classic house and often into more deep, electronic and techy areas, his sets littered with exclusives, old and new. Where as many producers from his era have tended to ease off on the studio work Mr Lee keeps turning out the club hits, evident in 2012 when he had 5 releases in the Traxsource end of year top 100. 2013 saw his long awaited compilation ‘Remixed With Love’ hit the stores. Packed with brand new remixes of classic disco tracks all reworked from original 24 track tapes and including artists such as Roxy Music, Patrice Rushen & Roy Ayers, the album topped sales charts on Amazon and Juno and stayed at No.1 on Traxsource for 4 months. His Akabu track "Everybody Wants Something" also featured in many end of year ‘best of’ charts. Joey has kept the pressure on in 2014 with singles under his Z Factor, Doug Willis and Sunburst Band aliases plus remixes for Zo! and Tramhead. He also put together and released a universally applauded Italo House album which dug deep into house history delivering some forgotten gems that still sound great today. Looking forward to next year there are already three albums lined up - Supafunkanova Volume 2, Remixed With Love Vol. 2 and a stunning compilation of 90s House and Garage. Also look out for a new artist album from Joey Negro coming soon... For all booking enquiries please email simon AT zrecords DOT ltd DOT uk

Updated (14 October 15:40 GMT) Bit of a milestone, as it's the 100th episode, I guess I should probably share a few thoughts, with you the listener. Dance music was my first love, the first type of music that I took seriously. Prior to that I would have been your typical kid who listened to pop music. We lived in a house where someone always had music on, be it the radio in the kitchen that my mother was listening to or emanating from all the rooms simultaneously upstairs. That all changed in 1988 during what was dubbed "The Second Summer of Love". There was a real air of optimism about. Life was changing and the music we were gravitating towards was reflecting this. It all felt new and exciting as a bona fide revolution in youth culture was taking place. It was rebellious and as a pre-pubescent I wanted a part of the action. The Cul-de-sac we lived in formed a natural congregation point for the kids in my neighbourhood and someone always had a stereo on as we played in "the square" as it was referred to. I decided to take up the mantle one afternoon and got my first taste of playing music selector to an audience. Naturally I was hooked. I was initially drawn to the sample based, 'Cut 'n' Paste' style of acts like Bomb The Bass, S'Express and Coldcut and anything I could hear via radio on Simon Young's Dance Show on 2FM and later Pete Tong's Essential selection on BBC Radio 1. I'd tape the shows and listen to them all week trying to track down the records I was hearing. This of course was pre-internet so what followed was a lot of humming in record shops to bemused staff. We had one of those old style record players in our house that could go down to 16 rpm and up to 78 rpm, on top of the usual 33 and 45 and my first foray into concocting mixes was making pause button tapes, messing about with the speeds of the various records in my collection and whatever else we had around the house. Which included my sister's Madonna, Janet Jackson and Gloria Estefan LP's along with a cache of vinyl, which my dad won playing poker, I was later informed. The collection he acquired included a lot of music that was alien to me at the time such as The Band and Pretty Purdie who had a song called 'Funky Donkey' that I developed a fondness for solely because of how absurd a song title it was. I investigated each record in the haul in the same manner that I still do today and put to one side the one's that stood out for me adding them to my stock. I also learned something valuable that day and that was; that, sometimes, it's worth going off the beaten track to discover music for yourself, as it can be extremely rewarding. In 1992 I started working part time, after school, saved up and got my first set of proper turntables. This was back in a time when Ireland's licensing laws were a bit lax and I started sneaking into nightclubs. This opened me up to a whole other world of music and I forged friendships that still hold strong to this day. I was well and truly bitten by the bug and decided that DJ'ng was the profession for me and by 1995 I was gigging regularly and making a living from something that started out as a passion. It's a passion that has never waned. Music still excites me as much now as it did then and I enjoy seeking out and listening to as much new music as I can. Everyday I hear something that blows my mind. So to the mix itself. I decided to take a look back at the history of dance music from the first nightclubs in Paris in the 1950's, to the Sound System culture of Jamaica in the 60's, on to the Discotheques and Block Parties of New York in the 70's, the House music of Chicago, Techno in Detroit, the Balearic Beat of Ibiza, the UK Rave scene in the 80's and beyond to what is now a global phenomenon. It's been fascinating for me to see how dance music evolved from disco to house to techno to drum n bass and mutated into 100's of sub genres and come full circle. History shows us how it's all cyclical and connected like one big organism. Dance music has had many names but only one purpose and that's to get you moving. Dancing is an inherent part of our DNA. It's primal, it unites and truly breaks down barriers. Nightclubs can be magical places transporting us to another dimension, away from the mundane and allows us forget about our troubles, even if only for a night. For this mix I've selected some of my four to the floor favourites. Cramming in as much as I could. There's nods here to seminal tracks and key figures in the evolution of it all. I've had many memorable moments to all these songs, they remind me of different points, places and people. They're tracks that will always hold a special place in my heart for a variety of reasons and in most cases are the best examples, for me, of the many flavours of club music. Thank you as always for lending me your ears, it's greatly appreciated. "What About this Love" Larry Heard (born 1960, Chicago, Illinois) is a DJ, record producer and musician, widely known for the Chicago-based house music he produced during the mid-1980s and continues to produce today. He was a leader of the influential group Fingers Inc.and has recorded solo under various names, most notably Mr. Fingers. "Move Your Body ". Marshall Jefferson (born, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American musician, working in house music, in particular, the subgenres of Chicago house and deep house. Sometimes known as the father of house music, Jefferson was originally a record producer in the Universal Recording Studios in Chicago, where he met the owner of Trax Records, Larry Sherman. Jefferson's 1986 single for Trax, "Move Your Body (The House-Music Anthem)," the first house song to use piano, was a popular and influential song in the genre. S'Express (pronounced ess-express; sometimes spelt S'Xpress or S-Express; otherwise known as Victim of the Ghetto) were a British dance music act from the late 1980s, who had one of the earliest commercial successes in the acid house genre. "Theme from S'Express", based on Rose Royce's "Is It Love You're After", was also one of the earliest recordings to capitalize on a resurgence of sampling Steve Hurley, produced a cover of "I Can't Turn Around" by Isaac Hayes, which sold well in the Chicago. Before Hurley could arrange to have the record licensed for overseas distribution, Farley managed to attach his own name to a European release of a slightly altered version of Hurley's track. The new version, "Love Can't Turn Around" by Farley "Jackmaster" Funk (vocals by Darryl Pandy), which reached #10 in the UK Singles Chart in 1986 "Your Love" Francis "Frankie" Nicholls (1955 – March 31, 2014), better known by his stage name Frankie Knuckles, was an American DJ, record producer and remixer. He played an important role in developing and popularizing house music in Chicago during the 1980s. In 1982, Knuckles was introduced to then-unknown Jamie Principle by mutual friend Jose "Louie" Gomez, who had recorded the original vocal-dub of "Your Love" to reel-to-reel tape. Louie Gomez met up with Frankie at the local record pool (I.R.S.) and gave him a tape copy of the track. Knuckles played Gomez's unreleased dub mix for an entire year in his sets during which it became a crowd favourite. Knuckles later went into the studio to re-record the track with Principle, and in 1987 helped put Your Love Adonis – "No Way Back" (1987) Adonis was 19 years old when he made the dystopian classic "No Way Back," one of Chicago house music's most iconic tracks. "No Way Back" was a smash hit for the Trax label; according to some estimates, the single sold over 100,000 copies. The lyrics made "No Way Back" sound effortlessly cool, and utterly terrifying. The stripped-down track, devoid of extraneous flourishes, still sounds ruthlessly modern. Kariya - “Baby Let Me Love You For Tonight” Originally released in 1988, 'Baby Let Me Love You For Tonight' has long been regarded a club classic. Well, I've found that early Sunday mornings are about the most opportune time for me to record podcasts now - really early. And in my half-awake, half-asleep state I cued up the wrong tune. In all my years of DJ-ing/podcasting, I can't ever recall cuing up a song I had no intention of using. It's funny, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out why the beats wouldn't match and it wasn't until 3 or so minutes later that I realized I was cuing up the wrong tune. At that point, I didn't have enough time to switch to a different song, so I just went with it. So, for all you Pet Shop Boys fans out there, you get two PSB tunes in this podcast with only a single song separating them. It works, I suppose, but I generally prefer to use only one song per artist in each 'cast. I guess there's a first time for everything, right? Speaking of a first time for everything, after 45 episodes, Bomb The Bass finally appears in song form and not in a production or remix vein. I alluded to "Beat Dis" in episode #41 as CRC featured the Bomb The Bass Mix of Depeche Mode's song "Strangelove" as the lead-off track. One of the early dance tracks to incorporate sampling into the mix, "Beat Dis" was the first single from Bomb The Bass (aka Tim Simenon) and had upwards of 72 samples contained within. Along with ground-breaking tracks, "Pump Up the Volume" by MARRS and "Theme from S'Express" by S'Express, "Beat Dis" heralded the arrival of sampling as a viable artform. The track was huge in Europe, reaching #2 on the UK Singles Chart. It also peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart for one solitary week, marking the only charted hit for Bomb The Bass in the United States. I have a real soft spot for the track I'd like to mention next. The band is T42 and the track is "Don't Let My Love". These guys were on the upswing and on the cusp of breaking out in a big way from the Dallas-Ft.Worth market during my time there in the early 90s. Orignally a duo consisting of Jay Gillian and Jimron Goff, vocalist Will Loconto supplanted Goff as the lead singer in 1989. After the release of a cassette EP (remember those?) called Hot On Top, they gained steady airplay on 94.5 The Edge radio station, which was home to all the great alternative bands back in the day. One of my many record store haunts back then, Oak Lawn Records picked up the band for a 12" single of "Don't Let My Love", which did well enough to attract the attention of Columbia Records, who signed the group. They released the full-length album, Intruder, in 1992, which was produced by Paul Robb from Information Society. It's hard not to hear the similarities to Information Society on "Don't Let My Love" and other songs on the album as well. In an ironic twist, Loconto quit the band in 1993, setting out to work with Information Society. While Gillian brought in other musicians to keep the T42 fires burning, the band's star faded and the group melted wistfully into the retro ether. Still, they left behind some tasty pop sugar for our consumption, even doing a very respectable cover of "Let Me Go" by Heaven 17. If you're into upbeat electro-pop, Intruder is definitely worth a listen. And if you're from the DFW area, the album and this song should be a reminder of an excellent time when the DFW local music scene was king. Taken from his 1982 album of the same name, Peter Godwin's "Images In Heaven" resembles more of a cult classic than a bonafide mega-hit. Formerly a member of the short-lived glam rock band Metro, along with Duncan Browne and Sean Lyons, Godwin is probably best remembered for his solo effort, "Images In Heaven", though you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone outside of devout new wave lovers who are very familiar with the song. David Bowie may argue the "best-remembered" point, as Metro's song "Criminal World" made enough of an impression on Mr. Stardust to induce a cover tune. Still, outside of 1983's Correspondence album and a Best Of compilation released in 1998 on Oglio Records, Godwin's scant musical output has always left new wave junkies wishing for something more. Something more ... also the sentiment I feel about Seven Red Seven. Chicago natives and band mates, Mitchell Adrian and David Michael, formed the group in the early 90s and had only a couple of releases issued to minor success before going on to production work for other musicians. However, their time together as a band produced one of the more under-rated and under-appreciated synth-pop albums in Shelter, which was released on Speed Records in 1991. The album included the song here, "That Way Again" and "Thinking Of You" (which appeared in remix form in CRC episode #34). Both were issued as singles. However, the rest of the album, much like Intruder by T42, is a synth-pop delight and a must-have for any synth-pop completist, especially for fans of Red Flag, Cause & Effect, Anything Box, Cetu Javu and others. The group would record just one more album, Bass State Coma, in 1994, and an interesting cover of "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder before moving into the production field. Truly a shame their total musical output was not much, much greater. P.S. Go buy Shelter! The last band I'd like to mention in this episode is the band Data. Fronted by Georg Kajanus, who made waves in the 70s with his band Sailor, Kajanus left Sailor in 1978 to dabble in electronic music. From this, Data was born. The track here, In Blue ... DJ, is a hybrid mix by Razormaid! Records of a couple of tracks from Data's third and final album, Elegant Machinery. Their other releases include 1983's 2-Time and 1981's Opera Electronica. In 1995, Eternity Records released a compilation album called Accumulator containing the second and third albums in their entirety plus the track "Fallout" from the Opera Electronica album. That's it for this episode. I'll be back soon with another new episode. Thanks for listening!
After last year's 70's indulgence with the Trash Disco series, Party Favorz is moving a decade forward. In typical fashion, I try to do something that's not so obvious, which better reflects who I was and what I was into by the end of the decade that was the 80's. I was a disco kid heading into high school and dabbled in Punk and New Wave but then quickly adjusted my tastes to fit in with the other kids. AC/DC (who I still love), Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Scorpions and on down the line fueled me. By the end of the decade, I was the preppy kid hanging with the cool kids dressed in black with earrings and eyeliner (much to the dismay of my parents) listening to the coolest music by New Order, Erasure, Depeche Mode, etc. and smoking a lot of pot while occasionally dropping acid. It's not a path I would recommend to anyone today but if I'm being real... It was the decade of Vans (which I had), OP (Ocean Pacific for the uninitiated), Levis 501 button fly jeans, Izod and really shitty (hideous) clothing from Oak Tree and the Limited; Just look at any Rick Astley video or even Depeche Mode and you'll understand. For the most part, I was a geek with good taste in music (or at least I like to think so). Truth is, I'm a musi-aholic. I enjoy almost all forms of music from the crude and crass (Dead Kennedys, Plasmatics) to the most commercial (Tiffany, Debbie Gibson). I can't really explain my tastes but they run the whole spectrum. These next three sets reflect a certain period of my life that I fondly remember. Many of today's artists are diving back into the pool for inspiration, so don't be surprised if something sounds all too familiar. Frankly, after working my magic, these songs have never sounded better. ENJOY! Deshalb erfülle ich die Wünsche hier im Podcast. Ich finde es immer wieder spannend, welchen Song du dir wünscht. CLUB KERRY NYC: Vocal Dance & Electronic - DJ Kerry John Poynter
It's been a while since I shared my thoughts on the tunes along with the track list. Enjoy! Track List (57:36): Black Velvet - Ferry Corsten: I remember thinking back in 2008 that I thought this tune should be the future sound of vocal trance. It didn't happen. Instead we have had the more mellow stuff which is good but I also wanted something a bit tougher. Also reminds me of Madonna's song "Skin" from her 1998 Ray of Light release. Ferry? How 'bout some more. "Black velvet feels warm on my skin. Touch me slowly, I want to savor my freedom." Bittersweet (Freemasons Extended Mix) - Sophie Ellis-Bextor: Waiting for the new Freemason's album that should be out this year. They never seem to disappoint. Thanks Sophie for instigating a little Freemason's sound out in the mean time. Good Times - Seamus Haji vs Mark Knight & Funkagenda: The #1 1979 hit by Chic is reborn. This tune has been sampled so much in Hip Hop and Rap songs. Did it ever really disappear? Halfway Gone (Morgan Page Main Mix) - Lifehouse: If you are a fan of my mixes then you have to be a fan of Morgan Page. The man is putting out great remixes and original material. Check out my tribute mix "Morgan Page is God!" released last month and get his new album Believe (iTunes - Amazon - Listen to the full album on Soundcloud). Feels Like Home - Meck Feat Dino Lenny: Meck just released a new version based on the mash up from the recent Madonna tour. Feels Like A Prayer was great in concert but I didn't care for the new release. So here is the former. Stoned In Love (Vertigo Vocal Remix) - Chicane feat. Tom Jones: I'm also looking forward to Chicane's new album out in April. Loving the new tune Come Back & Stay. Look for it on an upcoming mix. This is a fave from 2006 and my Raleigh/Durham, NC days. "Stoned in love but not with you." Feels Like Fire (Club Mix) - Players Please: I don't know who Players Please is but I do know that this tune has elements lifted from Power of Love by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. My favorite tune of this set! "I'll keep the vampires at bay. Feels like fire. I'm so in love with you. Purge the soul. Make love your goal." Rocket (Richard X One Zero Remix) - Goldfrapp: The last mix "Rocket Love Songs" had the outstanding Tiesto remix but I had to include the Richard X mix in this one. Always download a new Richard X remix even if you haven't listened to it. Much like The Freemason's, he never disappoints. This remix is free in the U.S. Amazon store (click here). Heartbreak on Vinyl (Chew Fu Extended Fix) - Blake Lewis: I loathe American Idol and just about anything associated with it minus my friends that obsess over it. However, the Chew Fu electro sound is well worth this exception. S'express 2.1 (Mario Lopez Vs C-Base Remix) - Mr. Malo: In 1988 the original was #1 in the clubs in the U.S. I was employed at a Wendy's restaurant at the age of 17 and my very out gay manager LOVED this tune and played it way too much. I guess I did too 'cause I still own it on 12" single. Probably how he figured me out. LOL! Can't Stop (Original Club Mix) - Noel G. Feat Adam Joseph: Adam is perhaps better known for his work with Bob Sinclair. An uplifting house track to close us out. A shame that I'll probably never hear this on U.S. radio.
I apologize for the delay, but I've been really busy working on the site and trying to get all the back-end stuff fixed after Google left me out for dry. No need to worry, this doesn't concern most of you that have been following this site for a long while. It mainly concerns those that are just now coming on board, and by the looks of it, there are many PF newbies! In the meantime, I'm serving up a platter of deep, dark and delicious house music with a side of hot sauce to keep it extra spicy. In fact, the majority of this set is pretty much peak hour, big room madness that explores the darker side of the progressive movement, while keeping the hooks aplenty! The first three songs come at you like a ton of bricks. Mr. Malo's remake of the 1988 hi-nrg classic “S-Express” and Hi-Tack's production of the 1999 Trance classic “Out of the Blue” by System F stay true to the originals while updating the sound for today's floors. The latter is nothing short of sweeping, majestic pleasure recalling the original with layer upon layer of thick heavy synths. Since we're on the remake kick I also dropped the Ultra Nate 90's big house classic “Free.” You may remember the breezy, bouncy Bob Sinclar take on my recent T-Dance Edition; well Teo Moss and Daniel Shems take the progressive route and deliver something new and fresh. I was thinking the other day that I may very well expedite Ultra through the nomination process and honor her by inducting her into the Diva Hall of Fame. Stay tuned. Every few years, Ish Ledesma of the late 70s group Foxy (Get Off), takes his late 80s girl group Company B and remixes one of their hits. Over the years, “Fascination” has definitely had its share, including a complete re-work by the fabulous Suzanne Palmer. However, none of them ever really stood out for me; that is until now. Veteran DJ/producer Giuseppe D. had the good sense to keep the hooks of the original while giving it that Millennium punch it desperately needed. On the opposite end, Players Please deliver an unlikely progressive rendering of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's “The Power of Love.” Deep, very dark and definitely delicious! Toni Braxton's latest “Make My Heart” get's a series of re-works courtesy of Atlanta records, her current label. None of the original three that were sent out as promos made the final cut. Instead, they went with other producers to promote this release. Shame, because I am totally in love with the Behrouz remix, which is why I kept it in the set. Regardless, their choices were still outstanding and you can expect the Alexander and Mark VDH production to be hitting up the Spring Edition. Another BIG winner for me is “Ready For the Fight” by the always unpredictable Young Punx. While there is a big electro remix by Wes Clarke, it's all about the Gramaphonedzie (Marko Milicevic) remix for me. Frankly, I think this entire set is one giant masterpiece of late night mayhem and I'm certain you'll agree. As promised, this one is OTH. I'll be taking the rest of the week off to give myself a break and allow you folks to digest everything that has already been posted this year. I should be back the following week with the first two of a year-long project I will be starting “Chrome: Millennium Edition (the First 10 Years). It also appears that the Spring Edition will make an early appearance this year and of course I'm already lining ‘em up for the next T-Dance set, which by all accounts is shaping up to be pretty darn funky. That's all I got for today. It's hump day, so time to start thinking about the weekend. After all, it's all downhill from here! I'll be back next week. Until then, ENJOY!
