Dr. Seuss fans might find their hearts growing three sizes this coming holiday season with the release of a sequel to the 1957 classic children's book “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” The new book picks up one year after the original, and like the first, teaches a valuable lesson about the true spirit of the holiday, Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Random House Children's Books announced. The sequel entitled “How the Grinch Lost Christmas!” is not based on a newly discovered manuscript by Seuss — whose real name was Theodor Geisel — but was written and illustrated by an author and artist with previous experience in the Dr. Seuss universe. “One of the most asked questions we receive from Seuss fans of all ages is ‘What do you think happened to the Grinch after he stole Christmas?'” said Alice Jonaitis, executive editor at Random House Children's Books, in a statement. The original Grinch book has sold nearly 10 million copies in North America alone and like other Seuss books has been translated into multiple languages. It was made into a 1966 animated TV special narrated by Boris Karloff, a 2000 live-action movie starring Jim Carrey and a computer-animated film in 2018 with Benedict Cumberbatch voicing the Grinch. The new book, scheduled for release Sept. 5, is written by Alastair Heim and illustrated by Aristides Ruiz. Heim has written Seuss-themed books like “If I Ran Your School” and “I Am the Cat in the Hat.” Ruiz has illustrated the Cat in the Hat's Learning Library books for more than two decades. “All throughout writing the story, I couldn't fully believe that I was actually getting to play in the amazing creative sandbox Dr. Seuss created all those decades ago,” Heim said in an email. Working on the Grinch sequel was an awesome responsibility, Ruiz said via email. “When I heard of the opportunity to be a part of this project, I jumped at the chance only to find that it was difficult and daunting to approach adding to or expanding such an esteemed and treasured part of the American Christmas canon,” he said. This is a revisited episode where Lisa replays her discussion with Kate Reynolds a librarian from Canada. They first spoke in February 2022 to discuss Dr. Seuss Enterprises' decision in February 2021 not to ‘publish six books. This episode is being published on March 2, 2023, his birthday and Read Across America Day.  Kate is known as the Lavender Librarian and is an openly autistic and queer librarian from Canada. In 2021, she founded Storytime Solidarity to create inclusive StoryTimes that welcome everyone. You can find her on instagram, Facebook and Twitter. This discussion highlights the importance of representing all children in picture books. In studying more than 50 Seuss books, this analysis shows 2% of characters in the books are minorities, and no little girls of color are in the collection. Plus, Lisa and Kate talk about the types of roles minority and female characters play in the books as well. Philip Nel, a scholar of children's literature, writes on this topic, and you can find him here. He has written several books about Dr. Seuss, including: Was the Cat in the Hat Black? The Hidden Racism of Children's Literature, and the Need for Diverse Books.  Books discussed on the show: A Big Mooncake for Little Star by Grace LinWhat Will Fit by Grace LinThe Ugly Vegetables by Grace LinWhere the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace LinGo, Otto, Go! by David Milgrim Going Somewhere by David Milgrim  An Elephant & Piggie Biggie by Mo WillemsThe Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson  For more information, find Lisa on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and her website. *The book titles mentioned include affiliate links. The RFM ecolabel includes the seafood product's origin and tells consumers where their food comes from every step of the way — starting with the Alaska fishers and processors and continuing to the cruise line's receipt of product and to the guest's plate.Usage of the RFM logo signifies solid commitment to a distinctive Chain of Custody program that assures buyers and guests their seafood is legally harvested, obtained from responsibly managed certified sustainable fisheries, and can be traced back to its origin.Serving Alaska seafood on Holland America Line ships has long been part of the brand's immersive culinary experiences. On any Alaska cruise, the line serves more than 2,000 pounds of Alaska Salmon, 1,000 pounds of Alaska cod, 800 pounds of Alaska halibut, 500 pounds of Alaska rockfish and more.Holland America Line Reports Positive Results of Cruise Industry's First Long-Term Biofuel Test on Board Volendam at Port of RotterdamHolland America Line completed the cruise industry's first multiweek test of biofuels on board Volendam at Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The 20-day test was conducted in partnership with GoodFuels, a leading producer and supplier of sustainable biofuels for the transportation industry, and Wärtsilä, a global leader in power and propulsion technologies and lifecycle solutions for the marine market. The assessment was completed September 7. In the first five days of the test the ship used a mix of 30% biofuel and 70% marine gas oil (MGO) in one of its main auxiliary engines. For the final 15 days of testing, the ship used 100% biofuel. According to GoodFuels, there was a 78% decrease in lifecycle CO2 emissions during the final 15 days of trial compared to marine gas oil emissions.Dutch-flagged Volendam was selected for the test since it was located at the Port of Rotterdam, one of the global ports where GoodFuels operates the infrastructure necessary to provide biofuel waterside fueling services. There is no significant difference for the ship's team members in handling regular fuel oil versus biofuel. The use of a “drop-in” biofuel such as the one tested on Volendam requires no shipboard refitting or special equipment. What Are Biofuels? The advanced biofuel is derived from feedstocks that are certified as 100% waste or residue, with no land-use issues and no competition with food production or deforestation.Holland America Line's 2024 Grand Australia and New Zealand Voyage Returns After a DecadeHolland America Line is continuing to bolster its longer voyages departing from a North America homeport, and the 2024 Grand Australia and New Zealand Voyage is the newest addition.  Lisa and Kate Reynolds a librarian from Canada, discuss the fallout after Dr. Seuss Enterprises one year ago decided not to publish six books. This episode is being published on March 2, which is his birthday and Read Across America Day. Kate is known as the Lavender Librarian and is an openly autistic and queer librarian from Canada. In 2021, she founded Storytime Solidarity to create inclusive StoryTimes that welcome everyone. In this week's Kaleidoscope, we look at the joy or dismay people felt over news that six books by Dr. Seuss will no longer be published over racist and insensitive images. Dr. Seuss Enterprises says books such as "If I Ran the Zoo" portray people - including Blacks and Asians - in ways that are "hurtful and wrong." But many global fans of Dr. Theodor Seuss Geisel's works, such as "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas," are outraged calling it an example of cancel culture run amok. Allison speaks with University of Virginia professor Sylvia Shin Huey Chong - who specializes in American and Asian American studies, what she thinks about this controversy that's been going on for years.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In March 2021, there was a significant uproar around the cessation of the publication of certain books authored by Dr. Seuss due to insensitive representations of race in the images and words used. This decision, made by Dr. Seuss Enterprises, brought about strong feelings and emotions.Book sales that week, however, took flight."Copies of the beloved children's author's most popular books were virtually flying out of Amazon and Barnes and Noble's warehouses..." ~Fox NewsFor many, their love of Dr. Seuss, the nostalgia of their childhood, and the joy the books bring to their children fueled their anger over this decision - believing that the removal of these books from shelves and circulation represents the "cancel culture" challenges we certainly have in our country. For others, the recognition of these unfavorable portrayals of people of color within the pages of the books felt like a step forward, as well as another reminder of the pain they continue to endure in an oppressive society. Is there a right side to this?Is there a wrong side to this?Is there middle ground we need to find?In this episode, we're exploring the Dr. Seuss conversation as it relates to the decision to no longer publish the books "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street," "If I Ran the Zoo," "McElligot's Pool," "On Beyond Zebra!," "Scrambled Eggs Super!," and "The Cat's Quizzer," sharing our feelings and thoughts around what happened, and as always, making room for what it could look like if Christ-likeness were to prevail over it all.Follow Needle Movers:Instagram: needlemoverspodcastFacebook: facebook.com/needlemoversforsocialequityWebsite: needlemovers.org

She talks about the need for filibuster reform and Supreme Court reform, about the storming of the capitol on January 6, and about her vote on Amy Coney Barrett: “Hell No.” Her new autobiography is Heart of Fire: An Immigrant Daughter’s Story. Also: Bill Gates, the second richest man in the world, has spent the last 20 years giving away his money—through a $50 billion foundation. But who exactly has he been giving that money to? Tim Schwab has some answers—his three reports in The Nation on the Gates Foundation just won this year’s Izzy Award, named after I.F. In Episode 28 behind the Secret Door, Alicia and Frances take a break from politics and discuss the latest in pop culture and talk about what's going on in their lives. They also cover the infamous Meghan Markle and Prince Harry interview. Pepe Le Pew is being removed from the next installment of Space Jam and any other future projects by Warner Brothers. Alicia discusses how Pepe helped normalize rape culture, while Frances remains skeptical that this is true. Disney has also chosen to make a decision in witness to their former cartoons' captions and narratives. They will be removing access to “Dumbo”, “Peter Pan”, “Swiss Family Robinson”, & “The Artistocats” from children-only profiles. If an adult logs into an adult profile, then the movies will be available, but a warning will be presented. The idea is to still allow access to the movies to audiences, but it allows parents the opportunities to teach their kids why certain parts of the movie are inappropriate. Dr. Seuss Enterprises has decided to stop publishing six books including “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” and “If I Ran the Zoo.” It portrays people in ways that are hurtful and inconsiderate. As Alicia's former co-worker explains, the images of the Asian community in “Mulberry Street” were portrayed in a way that is rude and inaccurate for that time. This includes out of date wardrobe, coloring of yellow skin, and long hair. All choices that were not realistic for the time when it was printed in the 1930s, thus providing proof to the stereotype and harmfulness of the book. Dr. Seuss Enterprises will continue to publish all the other books and will only stop publication for the six that were deemed inappropriate. Of course, Alicia's sweet little church ladies (SLCL's) on FB had a lot to say about this. Tune in to find out their take as well. Finally, in the interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left a lot to be discussed on Twitter and on Secret Door to the Left. Harry hinted to racist comments from his father, Prince Charles. The main concern was what color Archie would be when he was born. Meghan unfortunately not only dealt with racism within the family, but she also experienced brutality from the press in the UK. While she was pregnant with Archie, she evidently experienced suicidal thoughts and warned Harry that she should get help in order to prevent anything bad from happening. Unfortunately, she was not given the help she needed. Ultimately, the lack of help from the family, cruelty from the press, and racism that lead Harry and Meghan to decide to come to America. Welcome to The Joel Michalec Show Featuring The Lovely Sharen. Since our last episode, Hasbro said that Potato Head can keep his gender identity of "Mr."...probably all thanks to us! However, Dr. Seuss Enterprises has pulled six books from sales due to their (sudden) links to racism, Abraham Lincoln's namesake being pulled from San Francisco schools because he never did anything for black lives (I'm sorry...what?!) and Pepe Le Pew has been canceled from the Space Jam 2 movie because he obviously raped that cat! All of this PLUS a new Wombat of the Week, Netflix catching up to freeloaders and why you need extra password protection now! Last week, Dr. Seuss Enterprises announced that it will no longer publish or license six specific books from the Dr. Seuss collection. This piqued our interest regarding the history of what other classic books have been censored or self-censored in our history due to social pressure. For example, did you know that Fahrenheit 451, a book about book banning, book burning and book censoring, was itself censored in America? And what is banned books week? Brianna Keilar of CNN rhymes the new Dr. Seuss-style. Watch video.

Keri and Carter begin by celebrating the lifting of Texas' mask mandate, despite the resulting outrage which manifest in the hashtag #ihateithere trending on social media. They discuss the effect of lockdowns on children and Carter wonders why the bromide "kids are resilient" is treated as fact. They are prompted by chat to briefly discuss HR 1, or the cleverly-named "For the People Act," and then Keri describes how low information haters could do a better job of harassing her if they really cared. Next, they discuss the recent announcement by Dr. Seuss Enterprises that they are discontinuing the publication of six of his books after concluding that they "portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong." They review some of the "problematic" portions, and note that many retailers--including even eBay--have seized on the announcement and prohibited sales of the books on their own platforms. Carter briefly relates The Law of Suspects (a French revolution-era law instrumental during the Reign of Terror) to both the "anti-racist" ideology of today's SJWS and to Twitter's Terms of Service, and then he talks about the importance of learning to live with discomfort, noting that a commitment to individual sovereignty precludes appealing to an authority to correct your neighbor's bad ideas or self-destructive behavior. He also observes that demanding to know how "X" will work without central planning is a loaded question that misses the entire point of individualism. Keri reads some relevant Fahrenheit 451 quotes, and they end the show with an unexpected discussion about abortion, how they each think about the topic, and how their views have changed over time. Dr. Seuss Enterprises waited until this day, National Reading Day, to cancel six of his books.   And Kansas City waited until this day to tell residents about tornado drills, so the US National Weather Service text people got was confusing.   Surprise, surprise for Johnson County where none of its 200 sirens sounded. In Texas, 33 long-term care facilities were evacuated due to the winter storm; a vandal cut the brakes on 33 unsuspecting vehicles in Washington state; and 33% of Americans say the president is not fit for Washington, D.C.   Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Louisiana, Wisconsin all reported 33 coof deaths this past week while the Bay Area and the UK note deaths falling 33%.  Meanwhile, South Africa will use $33 million to help them get Johnson & Johnson vaccines in people faster. Stepping behind the curtain, we discuss the 33 communities in Manipur that pledge to prohibit poppy plantations and replace grower livelihoods with a government-implemented lifestyle alternative.   Last Tuesday, patients and caregivers from Nebraska Families for Medical Cannabis urged their representatives to pass a medical legalization bill, Legislative Bill 474, along with two measures to help prevent any technicalities from blocking the will of the people -- but they need at least 33 senators to override a filibuster of the measure.  LB474 will be the subject of public hearing on March 10th. Seven MMJ license-wielding idiots in KC took a step in the wrong direction when they smoked weed to allegedly help train police officers how to identify impaired users.    Two recreational measures are up for consideration in Washington, D.C. after Mayor Bowser and City Council Chair Phil Mendelson both introduced one of their own.   Congratulations Virginia where lawmakers passed a recreational bill for 2024!  In the meantime, apply for a business license in Michigan where you're not longer required to hold a medical license prior and send some of that legalization karma to Montana where voters are fighting an uphill battle to keep the constitutional amendment they approved back in November 2020. Oh, and make sure you follow any requisites you set out for your boards and commissions or else you'll get called out like New Jersey. More than 12,000 acres is up for auction in Nebraska in 33 tracts.   Bidding starts March 22nd, just FYI.  One 33-year-old man spiked a woman's smoothie and a 33-year-old nurse raped an 87-year-old in a senior living facility.  Miss Germany is a 33-year-old mom while Spain's oldest mom just lost custody of her twins.  If you're bummed about Daft Punk, you'll be happy to hear Smashing Pumpkins is recording a 33-song album.   Or maybe you won't.  But one lady got a smile on her face when a thrift store worker mailed her her late father's Purple Heart .  An Oregon man encountered a rare fox while some Australians sheared a wild sheep.   And if you've made it this far with the munchies, treat yourself with some QuikTrip roller grill 'cause it's back, baybay! The bowlers talk about the first time they ever watched an R-rated movie and next Tuesday we want to hear about the First Time You Ever 69'd!  Leave a voicemail or text (816) 607-3663.

Show #1059: Tuesday, March 2, 2021 Barcoding kids? Dr. Huber on America's mental health decline. Bruce Sidlinger on “soul crushing” regulations. Cancel Dr. Seuss, barcode your kids & the fall of tyrants! 00:00-15:07 Jeff discusses the growth of the cancel culture and Dr. Seuss Enterprises pulling six titles due to “racist imagery”. Are Dr. Seuss' days numbered?  The fall of the tyrants? Is the day of political reckoning for the three biggest tyrants in America finally upon us. First Governor Newsom of California star faded politically with an all but certain recall.  Governor of New York Cuomo falling politically with multiple allegations of sexual harassment. Now Governor Whitmer of Michigan star is fading with the Legislature looking at a large unexplained payout of a health department head. Get your barcode! The “Daily Pass” is coming. Jeff talks about Bill Gates, “safe for daily pass” program. Kids will get a QR code (barcode) in order to get into school in LA! Wow! Fun! Get your registration renewed at Walmart! DMV of Arizona expands outsourcing. The flagship of state failure finally offloads one of their main services. Jeff says, outsource the entire operation! Dr. John Huber, 45-55% Americans suffering from mental health disorders.   15:08-43:01 Approval processes were sped up once Covid hit with approval of vaccines and treatments. People are getting used to things on demand and doing things virtually including tele-health. Dr. Huber discusses new options for patients.  Impacts on kids mental health. Kids on zoom, social interactions and lack of normal contact. Destruction of American culture and impacts of the “woke” movement! Dr. Huber is a forensic physcologist who is hired to go before judges. Body language is so important to human communication but in the era of no bodies in the courtroom, it's been tough.  What is Ketamine? Dr. Huber gives a history and discusses its current uses.  More info at https://www.tripsitter.clinic What has Dr. Huber seen with families and spouses during home schooling, home work etc?  Are divorce lawyers “making bank” Bruce Sidlinger on “soul crushing” regulations! 43:02-73:32 Bruce leans on Jeff's amateur plumbing knowledge. Bruce shares some stories about stocking the truck up with routers in the early days of the internet.  Vandalism and the stripping of infrastructure. The discussion (of course) leads to the collapsing of complex societies including Rome and Mesopotamia and a discussion on how complex our society is. Does anyone really know much about how most things actually run? Plus rebuilding civilization in Bruce's image and other assorted things you need to hear.  It takes a village? Well, maybe a small one, of people that actually know how to do stuff.  An update on Olivia's hats. “Soul crushing” governmental challenges arise?  Most politicians have “never done”, so how are they going to tell you how to do? Obamacare, keeping your doctor and saving you money one increase at a time. But now you can open a coffee shop. It's that easy.  Visualization of $6,000,000,000,000 of Covid stimulus and what does the average American have to show for it? If they had handed it out it would equal about $46,000 per household.    Tomorrow is open line Wednesday starting at 4:06! 877-971-3971
