For Musical Theatre fans, Sally Ann Triplett is the definition of a West End leading lady having taken on principal roles in Chicago, Mamma Mia! and Billy Elliot. She is now currently playing Fraulein Schneider in the multi-award winning production of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club in the Playhouse Theatre. Since the show opened in 2021, various stars have tread the boards at the newly renovated theatre including Jessie Buckley, Cara Delevigne, Fra Fee and Aimee Lou Wood. In the current cast, Sally Ann is starring opposite Rhea Norwood and Layton Williams who star as Sally Bowles and the Emcee respectively. In this brand new interview, Sally Ann Triplett discusses why this production of Cabaret has ended up being such a hit with audiences. Having previously played Sally Bowles herself and also played Fraulein Schneider in the Lido 2 Paris' production earlier, she opens up about her love for the show as well as for Kander and Ebb. In our interview, Sally Ann also opens up about how the industry has changed over the years, noting the increasing presence of phones and connections slowly disappearing in companies. We also talk about the shortage of roles for women and why she's been able to work so consistently over the course of her career, having recently originated the role of Gran in Dave Molloy's The Witches, marking a triumphant return to the National Theatre following her spellbinding run as Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes; as well as leading a production of Billy Elliot at Leicester Curve as well. It's a fascinating discussion as Sally Ann reveals her insights into what it's really like to be one of the West End's finest leading ladies.Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club is currently running until 31st May 2025 with tickets on sale now!

Hallmark Playhouse Theatre - The Old Nest From-1948 Host: James Hilton Writer Stars-Tony Barrett, Gloria Blondell, Sharon Douglas, William Johnstone, Jane Morgan & Earle Ross A sentimental story about the relationship between parents and children. A family of six children are raised by their parents in a loving home until one by one, they leave to fulfil their own destinies. They rarely keep in touch, or see one another, until a special announcement brings them all back together.
Humphrey Bogart was born to Belmont Bogart and Maud Humphrey on Christmas Day, 1899 in New York City. The eldest child, his father came from a long line of Dutch New Yorkers, while his mother could trace her heritage back to the Mayflower. Belmont was a surgeon, while Maud was a commercial illustrator and suffragette. Young Humphrey was sometimes the subject of her artwork—a detail that got him teased in school. Maud earned over fifty-thousand dollars per year at the peak of her career. They lived in an Upper West Side apartment, and had land on the Canandaigua Lake in upstate New York. Bogart and his two younger sisters watched as their parents — both career-driven — frequently fought and rarely showed affection to them. His mother insisted they call her Maud. Bogart remembered her as straightforward and unsentimental. Bogie inherited his father's sarcastic and self-deprecating sense of humor, a fondness for the water, and an attraction to strong-willed women. He attended the prestigious Trinity School and later Phillips Academy. He dropped out of Phillips after one semester in 1918, deeply disappointing his parents. Bogart enlisted in the Navy in the Spring of 1918, serving as a Boatswain's mate. He later recalled, "At eighteen, war was great stuff. Paris! Sexy French girls! Hot damn!" He left the service on June 18th, 1919 with a pristine record. Bogart returned home to find his father's health and wealth doing poorly. Bogart's liberal ways also put him at odds with his family, so he joined the Coast Guard Reserve and worked as a shipper and bond salesman. Unhappy with his choices, he got a job with William A. Brady's World Films. He was stage manager for daughter Alice Brady's production of A Ruined Lady. He made his stage debut a few months later as a butler in Alice's 1921 production of Drifting. He had one line, and remembered delivering it nervously, but it began a working relationship that saw Bogart appear in several of her productions. Bogart liked the hours actors kept and the attention they received. He was a man who loved the nightlife, enjoying trips to speakeasies. He later joked that he "was born to be indolent and this was the softest of rackets." The man never took an acting lesson, preferring to learn on the job. He appeared in at least eighteen Broadway productions between 1922 and 1935, playing juveniles or romantic supporting roles, more in comedy than anything else. While playing in Drifting at the Playhouse Theatre in 1922, he met actress Helen Menken. They married in May, 1926. They divorced eighteen months later, but remained friends. In April 1928, he married actress Mary Philips. Both women cited that Bogart cared more about his career than marriage. Broadway productions dropped off after the Wall Street Crash of 1929. Many actors were heading for Hollywood. Bogart debuted on film with Helen Hayes in The Dancing Town. He signed a contract with The Fox Film Corporation for seven-hundred-fifty dollars per-week. There he met Spencer Tracey. They became close friends. Tracy made his feature film debut in his only movie with Bogart, John Ford's early sound film Up The River, from 1930. They played inmates. Bogart next appeared opposite Bette Davis and Sidney Fox in Bad Sister. Shuffling back and forth between Hollywood and New York and out of work for long periods, his father died in 1934. That year, Bogart starred in the Broadway play Invitation to a Murder. During rehearsal producer Arthur Hopkins heard the play from offstage and sent for Bogart, offering him the role of a lifetime. He cast Bogart as escaped murderer Duke Mantee in Robert Sherwood's The Petrified Forest.

I did some quick podcast conversations at INTIX that I loosely called, "8 minutes at INTIX" from the Cover Genius booth. This first one is with Angela Higgins. Along with Jo Michel, Angela does the Ticketing Professionals Conference of Australia. The conference is in October this year. Check out my friends at Cover Genius: www.CoverGenius.com We did a really interesting panel at INTIX with Jo-Ann from AudienceView, Kelley from Playhouse Theatre, and Joe from Cover Genius that focused on how much embedded protection helps accelerate the customer journey. Along the way, we uncovered that 48% of people are buying refund protection in at Playhouse right now. That's a number that points out that people want peace of mind and they are willing to pay for it. We also found out that 61% of people are buying strictly for the content and that pricing is a secondary or non-factor in the buying journey. And, we uncovered that people feel better about the entire process when they are offered refund protection and this shows up with big jumps in NPS score. Gabe Liedman is not only the sweetest person on earth, but this writer, producer and actor is also our amazing guest on this week's HDWGW! We talk about hair inspirations, from Vanessa and Gabe's admiration of Claire Danes in "My So-Called Life" to the previously unknown influence a teenager with a Jason Newsted haircut that Jonah saw during his childhood had on his style trajectory. Of course, we also discuss our love for Manic Panic hair dye, which runs as deep as our respect for its creators. That's not all! We dig into our celebrity doppelgängers and reminisce about independent record stores, ranging from Cleveland's Record Revolution to Philadelphia's Zipperhead. Finally, we play a round of LEGIT MOAN OR UNNECESSARY GROAN where we debate if the government is conspiring against literacy by banning light bulbs, hear about how perfume impacts one very judgmental Plain Dealer subscriber's experience at Playhouse Theatre and play a subgame called LEGIT MOAN OR UNNECESSARY GROAN: BATTLEZONE that pits millennials against seniors and features some of the most condescending attitudes we've ever heard on this podcast... and that's saying a lot. RFM certified all six of the cruise line's ships that sail to Alaska following an independent audit.RFM is a third-party certification program for wild-capture fisheries and is aligned with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, the most comprehensive set of international standards and best practices for wild fisheries. The RFM ecolabel includes the seafood product's origin and tells consumers where their food comes from every step of the way — starting with the Alaska fishers and processors and continuing to the cruise line's receipt of product and to the guest's plate.Usage of the RFM logo signifies solid commitment to a distinctive Chain of Custody program that assures buyers and guests their seafood is legally harvested, obtained from responsibly managed certified sustainable fisheries, and can be traced back to its origin.Serving Alaska seafood on Holland America Line ships has long been part of the brand's immersive culinary experiences. On any Alaska cruise, the line serves more than 2,000 pounds of Alaska Salmon, 1,000 pounds of Alaska cod, 800 pounds of Alaska halibut, 500 pounds of Alaska rockfish and more.Holland America Line Reports Positive Results of Cruise Industry's First Long-Term Biofuel Test on Board Volendam at Port of RotterdamHolland America Line completed the cruise industry's first multiweek test of biofuels on board Volendam at Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The 20-day test was conducted in partnership with GoodFuels, a leading producer and supplier of sustainable biofuels for the transportation industry, and Wärtsilä, a global leader in power and propulsion technologies and lifecycle solutions for the marine market. The assessment was completed September 7. In the first five days of the test the ship used a mix of 30% biofuel and 70% marine gas oil (MGO) in one of its main auxiliary engines. For the final 15 days of testing, the ship used 100% biofuel. According to GoodFuels, there was a 78% decrease in lifecycle CO2 emissions during the final 15 days of trial compared to marine gas oil emissions.Dutch-flagged Volendam was selected for the test since it was located at the Port of Rotterdam, one of the global ports where GoodFuels operates the infrastructure necessary to provide biofuel waterside fueling services. There is no significant difference for the ship's team members in handling regular fuel oil versus biofuel. The use of a “drop-in” biofuel such as the one tested on Volendam requires no shipboard refitting or special equipment. What Are Biofuels? The advanced biofuel is derived from feedstocks that are certified as 100% waste or residue, with no land-use issues and no competition with food production or deforestation.Holland America Line's 2024 Grand Australia and New Zealand Voyage Returns After a DecadeHolland America Line is continuing to bolster its longer voyages departing from a North America homeport, and the 2024 Grand Australia and New Zealand Voyage is the newest addition. This week we chat to James Birch, gallery owner and author of Bacon in Moscow, about his life-long friendship with Francis Bacon, one of Britain's most popular and controversial artists. Having known him since childhood and been a regular Soho drinking companion, James gives us a fascinating often funny and moving insight Bacon's life. He tells us all about his new book, the extraordinary story of taking a Bacon exhibition to Moscow in the late eighties during Perestroika. James also sheds light on the influences behind many of Bacon's paintings showing in the brilliant new exhibition Francis Bacon: Man and Beast at the Royal Academy in London. We also give you a run down on what to see in the art world this month. In London, there are Van Gogh's Self-Portraits at the Courtauld Gallery, Louise Bourgeois at the Hayward Gallery, Helen Frankenthaler at Dulwich Picutre Gallery and Lubaina Himid at Tate Modern. Meanwhile, outside London, there's an exhibition of prints From Hockney to Hamid at Pallant House in Chichester, Audubon's Birds of America opens at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh and Ai Weiwei's exhibition The Liberty of Doubt opens at the wonderful Kettle's Yard in Cambridge. We also suggest a visit to the glorious Yorkshire Sculpture Park to see Full Circle, an exhibition of drawings by David Nash. And our top tip of the week? Beg, steal, cheat, lie, borrow to get to see Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley in Cabaret at the Playhouse Theatre, brilliantly converted into the KitKat Club in 1930's Berlin. Cast changes on 21st March so move fast! Produced by Audio Coast
The Beatles first played at the Oasis Club on February 2, 1962. Six days later they were at The Playhouse Theatre to audition for a BBC radio performance. They passed the audition, so on March 7 they were back at the same theatre to record three songs for the BBC radio show, “Teenager's Turn – Here We Go.” It was the first time they wore suits in front of an audience. The show was aired the next day. What do all of these things have in common? They all took place in Manchester! Note: on a special page we've compiled 43 informative and entertaining links that'll take you on a deep dive into all that's discussed in this episode. See: https://barmyoldcodger.com/beatles60-podcast The Beatles wisely chose Manchester as their first opening to the nation. In retrospect, it makes good sense to include Manchester among "Beatles cities" that would propel the group to the toppermost (alongside Liverpool, Hamburg, New York and London). Located about 35 miles east of Liverpool, Manchester was in 1962 (and still is) the prime gateway for all media in the North of England. Radio appearances recorded in Manchester and their first television appearance filmed by Manchester's Granada TV would give The Beatles their first national exposure. It could be said that Manchester wasn't just a random stop along the way to London. It was the main route that had to be taken. In this episode of the Beatles60 podcast, we have some special guests! Beatles historian Steve Bradley and radio presenter Phil Salter are area natives. They're the voices behind the mics on the Arrive Without Travelling podcast. It's an information-packed discussion, and our guests make it perfectly clear that the Beatles' path to nationwide fame would begin in Manchester, the north's media centre. It's time to grab a "window seat" and be on your best "model behavior" as hosts Bobby and Kristina discuss 2017's Amélie and 2010's Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown on episode fourteen of My Favorite Flop. ABOUT AMÉLIE Based on the 2001 French film of the same name, Amélie tells the story of a shy waitress who decides to change the lives of those around her for the better while struggling with her own isolation. The musical features music by Daniel Messé, lyrics by Messé and Nathan Tysen, and a book by Craig Lucas. Following out-of-town tryouts at Berkeley Repertory and The Ahmanson, the musical finally opened to mixed reviews on Broadway on April 3, 2017. Despite praise for its cast and design elements, many critics found issue with the score, and the show struggled at the box office. When the show failed to receive any Tony nominations in an extremely competitive season, the show closed on May 21, 2017, after 27 previews and 56 regular performances. A substantially transformed production, with new orchestrations, an expanded repertoire of songs, and new staging in the actor/muso style, opened on the West End in December 2019, at the Other Palace. Critics praised its improvements on the Broadway version, with The Guardian describing it as "a triumph of adaptation" "high on imagination", while The Daily Telegraph lauded the "wonderful, wistful evening" it made. It was nominated for three awards at the 2020 Laurence Olivier Awards: Best New Musical, Best Original Score or New Orchestrations, and Best Actress in a Musical. Original Broadway Cast Phillipa Soo as Amélie Adam Chanler-Berat as Nino Tony Sheldon as Dufayel/Collignon David Andino as Blind Beggar/Garden Gnome/Anchorperson Randy Blair as Hipolito/Rock Star/Belgian Tourist Heath Calvert as Lucien/Adrien Wells/Mysterious Man Alison Cimmet as Amandine/Philomene Savvy Crawford as Young Amélie Manoel Felciano as Raphael/Bretodeau Harriett D. Foy as Suzanne Alyse Alan Louis as Georgette/Sylvie/Collignon's Mother Maria-Christina Oliveras as Gina Paul Whitty as Joseph/Fluffy/Collignon's Father ABOUT WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN Based on the Pedro Almodóvar film of the same name, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown tells the tale of a group of women in late 20th-century Madrid whose relationships with men lead to a tumultuous 48 hours of love, confusion, and passion. The musical features music and lyrics by David Yazbek and a book by Jeffrey Lane. Following a series of workshops in 2009 featuring Salma Hayek, Jessica Biel, Matthew Morrison and Paulo Szot, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown opened on Broadway at the Belasco Theatre on November 4, 2010. The production was a limited engagement that was scheduled to end on January 23, 2011, but due to low grosses and ticket sales, closed early on January 2, 2011. At the time of closing, the show had played 30 previews and 69 regular performances. A West End production, also directed by Bartlett Sher and starring Tamsin Greig, Jérôme Pradon, Haydn Gwynne, Anna Skellern, and Willemijn Verkaik opened at the Playhouse Theatre on January 12, 2015 for a 20-week run, and subsequently extended its run, but it was ultimately announced that the production would close on May 23, 2015. Greig and Gwynne were nominated for Best Actress in a Musical and Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical respectively at the 2015 Laurence Olivier Awards. Original Broadway Cast Sherie Rene Scott as Pepa Patti LuPone as Lucia Brian Stokes Mitchell as Ivan Julio Agustin as Ambite De'Adre Aziza as Paulina Laura Benanti as Candela Danny Burstein as Taxi Driver Alma Cuervo as Woman in Cinema/Ivan's Concierge/Magistrate 2 Justin Guarini as Carlos Murphy Guyer as Hector/TV Husband/Magistrate/Chief Inspector Nina Lafarga as Woman at Train/Ana Nikka Graff Lanzarone as Marisa Yanira Marin as Ensemble Sean McCourt as Man in Cinema/Doctor/Detective Vivian Nixon as Ensemble Mary Beth Peil as Pepa's Concierge/TV and Radio Announcer Luis Salgado as Malik Jennifer Sánchez as Cristina Phillip Spaeth as Ensemble Matthew Steffens as Ensemble Charlie Sutton as Man at Train/Telephone Repairman

Kiruna Stamell was working as an extra on the film Moulin Rouge in Australia twenty years ago when the director created the part of La Petite Princess just for her. She used her pay check to come to the UK where she’s worked across television, film and theatre. At the start of this year she was in the Jamie Lloyd Company production of Cyrano de Bergerac at the Playhouse Theatre in the West End, which won the Olivier award for Best Revival at the weekend. She was meant to be part of the show’s New York transfer but it was cancelled because of the pandemic. Instead, she found herself shielding at home in the UK with her husband Gareth, and creating a web series for children called Pirate and Parrot. Follow Kiruna on Twitter and Instagram. Caroline, Or Change, the multi-award-winning musical by Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori, draws on Kushner’s Deep South Jewish childhood to tell its tale of changing times in 60s America. The action takes place at Chanukah in 1962, as shockwaves from the assassination of JFK on 22 November rock America and the world. Aaron Gelkoff plays Noah Gellman, a nine-year-old Jewish boy whose relationship with his family’s black maid Caroline (played by Sharon D Clarke) consoles him more than his stepmother ever can after the death of his mother. Sue Kelvin plays the doting Grandma, mother of the boy’s bereaved father. Judi Herman caught up with both actors to discuss their preparations for the roles; the experience of black and Jewish minorities in 60s Louisiana and how it chimes with our current uneasy times of racism and antisemitism; and what it takes to be a star in musical theatre today – both upcoming and experienced.Caroline, Or Change runs until Saturday 9 February. 7.30pm (Mon-Sat), 2.30pm (Thu & Sat only). From £20*. TBB Talks to Olivier Award-winner Sharon D. Clarke about her reprisal of her critically-hailed performance in the role of Caroline Thibodeaux in the musical 'Caroline or Change'. A British Black legend of the stage, Clarke has lead productions such as Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and The Amen Corner(National Theatre), Ghost The Musical (Piccadilly Theatre), The Life (Southwark Playhouse), Porgy and Bess (Regents Park Open Air Theatre). She was also recently seen in BBC's cult sci-fi series Doctor Who and the thriller series Informer. Directed by Michael Longhurst, Caroline, Or Change, is the celebrated musical written by Tony Kushner, author of Angels in America, with a score from Tony Award-winning Jeanine Tesori running at the West End's Playhouse Theatre from 20 November 2018 to 9 February 2019. Louisiana, 1963. Revolution is in the air, though not so much for Caroline, the poorly paid maid toiling endlessly in the sweltering basement of the Gellman household. It's a fantastical, magical place amidst the piles of laundry and singing washing machines, especially for eight-year-old Noah Gellman who sneaks downstairs to see her whenever he can. Yet a simple gesture to leave more money in Caroline's pocket is about to test who and how far the winds of change can ever really reach… Winner of the 2007 Olivier Award for Best New Musical, Caroline, Or Change is a playful, funny, and deeply moving portrait of America at a time of momentous social upheaval, set to an uplifting and profound score of soul, blues, classical and traditional Jewish folk music.
