It's a Dunhill Links debrief this week and while Andrew and Iain skirt delicately around the issue, Eddie is quite happy to talk about life before and after the 16th hole at Kingsbarns. They also discuss Tyrell Hatton's win - taking a huge cheque from the DP World Tour which would cover his DP World Tour fines if he should ever decide to pay them. They get into the revival of Nicolas Colsaerts, as well as wondering about poor on-course behaviour and what possible mitigation there might be. Yet there is still time for more musings on the future of the professional game, clarification on which Open course is closest to the sea and an explanation for being half-naked in Bernhard Langer's hotel room. You can email the pod at thechippingforecast@foldingpocket.co.uk Learn more about your ad choices. 0:00 – 17:23 Onze eigen golfavonturen 17:23 – 44:20 De Golftours 44:20 – 56:46 Korte Ronde

It's still January so two things spring to mind, Veganuary and Burn's night and what a wonderful pairing for 2023. On this episode of Scran we look at the delightful ways to celebrate Burns night but doing so in a vegan manner.  Rosalind talks to chef Emma Ray, a vegan chef with lots of hints and tips for anyone hosting a Burns supper or indeed attending one. We are very excited to share with you a Burns poem to celebrate the national bard, read by none other than Scottish actor James Cosmo - VisitScotland kindly shared this recording with us having carried out research this year that showed the piece featured in this episode, 'To a Mouse', is in fact Scotland's favourite Burns poem. Rosalind speaks to Peter Holroyd from Kingsbarns distillery who gives us the history of this small, family-run distillery and his recommendation for the kind of whisky he would choose for any haggis pairing. Finally Rosalind chats to Diana Thompson from Wine Events Scotland who you may remember from previous episodes of Scran. Diana gets into some of the technical side of why some wine is vegan and some isn't. We hope you enjoy our celebration of Burns - slainte mhath!

After an enthralling weekend, things get back on track with ‘standard' 72-hole events on both sides of the pond. In Europe, the DP World Tour continues an excellent, varied, schedule by hosting the 21st running of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, taking in rounds at Kingsbarns, Carnoustie and St. Andrews, before finishing the pro-am format at the Home of Golf. It's been just a few weeks since Cam Smith broke Rory McIlroy's heart here at the 150th Open, and much has changed since, most notably the Aussie's defection to the LIV tour. Given the proliferation of amateurs, the course won't be set up anywhere near as tough as it was in August, but with some wind and rain expected, it will be as unpredictable as we can get it. The PGA Tour resumes the always-bizarre wraparound season, this time at the Sanderson Farms, once an ‘opposite' event, but now a fully fledged member of the schedule. ‘Average' is the word I'd use to describe this event, as that is exactly what it is. Average width, average length, average greens, and whilst fairways and greens will always help, the last four winners have ranked in the top four for strokes gained off the tee. 2018 champion, Cameron Champ, summed it up best by saying, “I felt like if I was further up, even in the rough versus hitting a 3-wood being 40 yards back, I would rather be up there. I guess that's the game plan.” Here are this week's best bets at each:

The 20-day test was conducted in partnership with GoodFuels, a leading producer and supplier of sustainable biofuels for the transportation industry, and Wärtsilä, a global leader in power and propulsion technologies and lifecycle solutions for the marine market. The assessment was completed September 7. In the first five days of the test the ship used a mix of 30% biofuel and 70% marine gas oil (MGO) in one of its main auxiliary engines. For the final 15 days of testing, the ship used 100% biofuel. According to GoodFuels, there was a 78% decrease in lifecycle CO2 emissions during the final 15 days of trial compared to marine gas oil emissions.Dutch-flagged Volendam was selected for the test since it was located at the Port of Rotterdam, one of the global ports where GoodFuels operates the infrastructure necessary to provide biofuel waterside fueling services. There is no significant difference for the ship's team members in handling regular fuel oil versus biofuel. The use of a “drop-in” biofuel such as the one tested on Volendam requires no shipboard refitting or special equipment. What Are Biofuels? The advanced biofuel is derived from feedstocks that are certified as 100% waste or residue, with no land-use issues and no competition with food production or deforestation.Holland America Line's 2024 Grand Australia and New Zealand Voyage Returns After a DecadeHolland America Line is continuing to bolster its longer voyages departing from a North America homeport, and the 2024 Grand Australia and New Zealand Voyage is the newest addition. Another big week of golf on the European Tour with Rory McIlroy heading the field at the Pro-Am Dunhill Links Championship. A larger than normal field tackle three of Scotland’s finest layouts in the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns. It’s a style of golf unlike that faced most weeks by the players and that puts our resident expert John Evans right in his comfort zone as he hunts down several value propositions. On the other side of the pond, the PGA Tour is in California for the Safeway Open where both Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott add some start power to an otherwise lacklustre field. As always we reveal two to three of John’s selected picks for the upcoming week and why he’s chosen them and we’ll be tracking the performance of these players over the course of the year through the eyes of a mythical punter, Podcast Pete. Simultaneously, we’ll follow the results of ‘Subscriber Steve’, who follows all of John’s advice every week, to see who comes out on top by December. Episode 15 of the Green Room Golf Course Podcast crosses the Irish Sea a month ahead of schedule to chat with Graeme Beatt, who is preparing for the biggest four days of his career.   Following the conclusion of the US Open last weekend, the next and final major on the golfing schedule is the Open Championship, taking place this year at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland.   This will mark the first time the Open has been held outside of England or Scotland since 1951, when Royal Portrush again hosted the event. Back then it was the flamboyant Max Faulkner who lifted the Claret Jug, the last Englishman to do so until Tony Jacklin in 1969.   There are some amazing stories waiting to be written this time out. Rory McIlroy shot 61 at the club aged just 16, while hometown hero Graeme McDowell will be playing on a course prepared by his brother and greenkeeper, Gary, who's a part of the Royal Portrush team. So there's tons to look forward to.   For Graeme Beatt, it's going to be the first major challenge of his career. The 39-year-old was born and raised in St Andrews and has been greenkeeping since 1995, when he spent the summer working at Scotscraig. His career has taken him to Kingsbarns, Royal Melbourne, Castle Dargan and County Sligo, before joining Royal Portrush as course manager in 2015, just a few months before the club was announced as the host of the 2019 Open. Throughout preparations for the event, Graeme has kept an incredible blog, that details everything the team has undertaken to get the Dunluce in championship condition for the Open. Head to the BIGGA website to find out more about the BIGGA Awards ahead of the closing day on 31 October 2019.  The Green Room Golf Course Podcast is produced by Karl Hansell on behalf of the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association. Winter will be here before you know it, so here are five important tips that will prepare your home for the upcoming season.Want to sell your home? Get a FREE home value reportWant to buy a home? Search all homes for saleNow that we’re moving through fall and getting closer to winter, here are five important tips to prepare your home for the change in season:1. Turn off your sprinkler system. If you forget to turn off your sprinkler system and the temperature dips below freezing overnight, you might wake up the next morning to a lawn covered in ice. 2. If you plan on using a wood-burning fireplace, get your chimney and vents checked. Make sure they’re clean and unobstructed.3. Get your furnace checked and serviced. At the very minimum, you’ll want to clean or replace its filter. 4. Reverse your ceiling fans (if you can). If you can switch the direction of your fans to rotate clockwise, they’ll be able to push the warm air from the ceiling down to the floor. This is an especially handy trick for homes with two-story family rooms.  We’re offering a free winterization service for your outside pipes and faucets. ”5. Insulate your outdoor pipes and faucets. As with your sprinkler system, any water left inside these pipes may freeze once the temperature dips below freezing, and this can cause your plumbing pipes to burst and create a lot of damage you may not have time to deal with. That’s why, as a token of our appreciation to our clients, we’re offering a free winterization service for your outside pipes and faucets. If you want to take advantage of this offer, all you have to do is call me. If you have any other real estate questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me as well. 3 Tips for Listing Your Home This Fall and Winter

If you plan on selling your home this fall or winter, I have three tips to help you succeed.Want to sell your home? Get a FREE home value reportWant to buy a home? Search all homes for saleIf you plan on selling your home in late fall or this coming winter, I have a few recommendations for you: 1. Go green while you can. Have your agent take professional marketing pictures of the exterior of your home now, while the greenery is still lush and the skies are bright and clear. This is especially important for homeowners with beautiful backyards, trees, pools, outdoor living areas, etc. 2. Add light. The sun sets early in the winter, and many of your weekday showings will take place after normal business hours, when it’s already starting to get dark. I recommend adding additional landscape lighting around the house and in your yard. Increase interior lighting if you can by adding floor lamps or replacing existing light bulbs with brighter ones. 3. Fix what’s broken. It seems that during the winter months, buyers have especially low tolerance for deferred maintenance issues. Buying a home is almost always an emotional decision. When it’s dark, chilly, and dreary outside, buyers want the home to be warm, cozy, and move-in ready.  Buyers want your home to be warm, cozy, and move-in ready. ”If you have any other questions about selling your home this time of year, just give me a call or send me an email. There aren't many things weirder than sitting across from an experienced broadcaster and interviewing him. It's like the tables have turned. Usually Vic's the one doing the interviewing. It's also an experience which is pretty fraught with self-doubt - this guy talks to people for a living and here I am, some fresh out the box, self-styled, new media interloper talking to a guy who has literally thousands of interviews under his belt. How can I compare? Am I being judged? Is this going badly? I should have had more questions. What am I even doing? etc. It's best not to think about it.Vic's an interesting guy who's lived a lot and experienced a lot. Being in his company is an experience which can only be described as kinetic. He exudes a very unique, intense, and passionate kind of energy which is akin to the buzz one used to feel as a kid when you walked into a toy shop.Except for people like us, it's not a toy shop. It's a record shop. And we're not kids anymore. We're grown ass men who love music. From this interview I think you get the sense that Vic just absorbs everything in the world that fascinates him, wide eyed and open armed. It's infectious, sure. But most of all it's pure. There's no pretension. We cover a lot of ground in the podcast, some of the highlights include:His current (and resurrected) band Khartoum Heroes.Growing up with 50s rock n roll and classical music.Adam Ant as a musical turning point.Buzzcocks covers before his voice even broke.Never being discouraged by his parents to pursue an artists' life even if they don't understand the art he makes and enjoys.King Creosote, James Yorkston, his old band Huckleberry playing T in the Park, doing an NME Tour, playing Reading and Leeds,  having music played John Peel's and Steve Lamaq's radio shows.Hedonism, perhaps being dead now if he'd have made it at 22.Most artists who are good get better with age.Jim Gellatly and how it used to be much harder to get heard. Alternative music used to be alternative, now it's seeped into the mainstream. How he hadn't thought about journalism at all and how he got involved at the BBC almost by accident. How he just took as many jobs related to music as possible, like doing lights in venues, writing for fanzines, doing PR for labels, putting on club nights, DJing…Choosing not to move to London and deciding to stay in Scotland. The best way to keep your interest in new music is up to keep your interest varied and to mix it up. People get bored of new music because they're not finding the good stuff.Feeling lucky and honoured to have the job he has.Songs in the Key of Fife – how that came about and the bands from Kingsbarns and St Andrews: KT Tunstall, The Pictish Trail, The Beta Band, the Fence Collective, King Creosote, The Withered Hand etc.How Vic got into acting at school, was in the youth theatre and used to run acting workshops in school, how he applied to RADA but rock n roll got his soul. He hopes to go back to it one day…Also discusses how he thinks humans are penned in by themselves and you need to push yourself to have new experiences. If you're interested in something you have to chance your arm and try it.Featured MusicIntro: Voodoo Puppets – Electric Chair Blues (used under CC licence, you can check it out here).Henry Mancini - The Pink Panther Theme,Adam and the Ants - The Day I Met God,The Beta Band - Dry the Rain.I make no claim to the copyright of any of the music in this episode.LinksCheck out Vic's BBC page here for all of his latest shows, podcasts and news. Dreamers abound in the whisky business. In the case of the Kingsbarns Distillery project planned near St. Andrews in Scotland, two dreamers had to join forces to achieve their goal. Doug Clement had everything needed to make Kingsbarns work...except money. William Wemyss wanted to build a distillery in the area where his family has lived for centuries. Now, Wemyss Malts has acquired Kingsbarns, and Doug Clement might just wind up as the distillery manager when it opens in 2014. In the news, Indian regulators are raising issues with Diageo's acquisition of United Spirits, whiskies, designer, and celebrity chefs join forces, and a Detroit bartender wins Woodford Reserve's annual Manhattan cocktail competition.
