(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson, Timothy Reed and Adam McManus U.S. condemns Nigerian Islamic massacre of Christian family The U.S. government is condemning the Islamic massacre of a Nigerian pastor's family in northern Nigeria that occurred earlier this month.   Nine family members of Pastor Ezekiel Dachomo were killed in the recent attack. Pastor Dachomo was known throughout the country for his assigning blame to the Nigerian government for escalating violence against Nigerian Christians.   According to TruthNigeria, which first reported the killings, dozens of others were killed by radical Islamist groups in northern Nigeria on July 11th. President Trump himself had re-posted Pastor Dachomo's recent video where he was crying out for international help, while he stood in a mass grave of dead Christians. Some now suspect the Nigerian government as complicit in the murder of Pastor Dachomo's family as punishment for the video. And now, Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has criticized the Nigerian government. On an X post, he wrote, “Nigerian officials have created an environment that facilitates mass violence against Christians and religious minorities by imposing blasphemy and Sharia laws and looking the other way at jihadist atrocities. The U.S. government knows the Nigerian officials responsible for these policies, I have been pushing my bill to sanction them.” Let us remember this sober spiritual lesson from Psalm 9:17: “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” Are Europe's worst fires connected to perversion and hostility to homeschoolers? Meantime, Spain and France are suffering through the worst fires of the century as 300,000 people have been evacuated so far. That's the largest evacuation since World War II, reports ABC News. Specifically, 13,566 fires have swept across 448 square miles in France. And in Spain, 591 square miles have burned this year which is six times the amount that burned through the first half of 2025. It has resulted in the displacement of 250,000 French and 50,000 Spaniards. Spain approved of faux-homosexual marriage in 2005. And France approved of sexually perverted marriages in 2013. Plus, homeschooling was also recently banned in France. Micah 3 speaks of this tyranny: “And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; is it not for you to know judgment? Who hate the good, and love the evil . . . Then shall they cry unto the Lord, but He will not hear them:” Sweden, Germany and Netherlands oppose homeschooling The same has occurred in Sweden, Germany, and now the Netherlands. Two months ago, the Netherlands' highest court ruled that parents can only claim the homeschool exemption if there is no suitable school nearby, virtually making it impossible to homeschool. And now, England has also adopted a new restrictive homeschool law, signed by King Charles III in April. According to the U.S.-based Homeschool Legal Defense Association, the new law “grants local authorities the power to prevent families from homeschooling if officials believe a proposed home education program is unsuitable.” Micah 3:2-4 speaks of this tyranny: “And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and you princes of the house of Israel: Is it not for you to know judgment? You who hate the good, and love the evil. … who also eat the flesh of My people, and flay their skin from off them. … Then shall they cry unto the Lord, but He will not hear them.” Nuclear power coming to the Islamic world Nuclear power is coming to the Islamic world. The United States has signed an agreement with the Islamic state of Saudi Arabia, providing a legal framework for U.S. companies to participate in Saudi Arabia's civilian nuclear power program. The Muslim countries of Pakistan and Iran have already built a nuclear program. The Muslim-dominated countries of Turkey and Egypt are also in the process of building a nuclear program. Iran and South Korea began their nuclear program in the 1970s, Pakistan in the 1960s, and now, Turkey in 2018, and Egypt in 2022.  Nicaraguan communist president suspended elections Nicaragua's communist president, Daniel Ortega, has suspended his country's elections indefinitely.  The Central American country continues to suffer under the iron grip of communism, and conservative outlet Human Events notes that, “Nicaragua's last election in 2021 was widely disputed after Ortega's government arrested opposition candidates, activists, and members of the business community ahead of the vote.” Of the 43 nations in Latin America, Nicaragua has the second worst Gross Domestic Product per capita — right next to the other communist country — Cuba, and also, Haiti. Forest fires in Northwest America California, Washington, and Oregon are already lit up in forest fires this season. That's well ahead of last year.  In California, there are 3,338 wildfires which have burned 195,000 acres. And in Oregon, 34 major blazes have burned 1.3 million acres, reports The Statesman-Journal. Oregon has burned more acreage than last year and the season's not over. Mostly the fires have been started by an act of God — that is, lightning strikes, reports FoxWeather.com. America ready to deport hundreds of thousands of Haitians The temporary protected status for hundreds of thousands of Haitians in America is expected to end this week, according to CBS News.  U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, is preparing to launch operations to deport these immigrants, though there is still an option for immigrants to leave on their own.  The Department of Homeland Security explained, “What we would say now is it's closing time which means you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here."  Inflation plagues America Inflation fears have saddled the U.S. economy. Thirty-year U.S. bond yields are up to 5.2%. It's been 20 years since the yields have been in that territory.  Thirty-year mortgage rates hit 6.77% --the highest rate in about a year. MoneyLion.com analyzed pay increases versus cost-of-living increases over the last five years across the U.S. and found 30 states are losing ground. This is impacting the middle class more than anybody else.   Folks in Massachusetts and New Jersey have lost 23% to inflation while Louisiana and Mississippi gained a little ground with a 10-11% bump.  Worldwide government debt increased by 6% In other economic news, government debt for the developed nations of the world has popped up another 6% overall this year.   Fitch Ratings is forecasting a $4.2 trillion bump this year, of which the United States is at the forefront.  Top debtor nations are the United States with a forecasted deficit of 7.8% of our Gross Domestic Product, which is the total market value of goods and services produced within America in a year. The United States is followed by France at 5% of their Gross Domestic Product, Britain at 4.8% of their GDP, Germany at 3.7% of their GDP, and Japan at 3.1% of their Gross Domestic Product. For the first nine months of this fiscal year, President Donald Trump's spendy government exceeded the 9-month average of deficits for 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 — the four years for which President Joe Biden was responsible.  The U.S. deficit topped $1.4 trillion for the first nine months, and now is on track for a $2 trillion deficit this year. That compares to the Biden four-year average of $1.67 trillion. Extra print stories Shooter in Seattle killed three people A mass shooter in Seattle, Washington, killed three people and wounded several more on Sunday, CNN reported.  A suspect has been taken into custody, two weapons have been recovered,  and one report indicated that there was a firefight between more than one shooter.  In a statement the night of the shooting, Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson promised, “In the days ahead, we will establish what happened and be transparent with the public about what we have learned. Tonight, our attention belongs to the people whose lives were taken, those fighting to recover, and the families beside them.”  Genesis 6:11 reminds us, “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.” Minnesota GOP candidate Mike Lindell gets backlash over amnesty plan Mike Lindell, CEO of My Pillow and GOP gubernatorial candidate in the state of Minnesota, has come under backlash for his amnesty plan for illegal aliens. Lindell suggested ending deportations in Minnesota for six months, and per the Dallas Express, “Lindell proposed giving illegal aliens six months to register with the government, submit fingerprints, undergo background checks, and receive a conditional work visa. Applicants would not receive citizenship or voting rights.” However, under Lindell's plan, these conditional visas would not expire, and the immigrants would “never have to leave.”  Immigration continues to be a major issue in conservative circles, and many have seen Lindell's views as a betrayal.

The only people who don't are Democrat politicians afraid of their own radical base. We also cover Hakeem Jeffries telling CNN that 6,600 non-citizens being registered to vote in New Jersey — with hundreds confirmed to have voted — is not a problem, and is actually an example of Republican voter suppression. We say what needs to be said: yes, Hakeem. We are trying to suppress illegal votes. That is exactly what the SAVE Act does. If the Democrat Party needs illegal votes to win, the Democrat Party should not win. We also walk through the genealogical reality of a multiracial nation — including the head of the NAACP who discovered she had an ancestor on the Mayflower, and the uncomfortable question of what happens when the same family tree contains both slaveholders and slaves. We make the theological point that a grievance machine with no limiting principle is not a policy. It is a dependency engine. The debt of slavery was paid — Lincoln said so, and the Civil War proved it at a cost of more American lives than any conflict before or since. The answer is not racial accounting. It is equal citizenship, strong families, honest education, safe communities, and a culture that celebrates achievement instead of grievance. In our Top 3, first-time unemployment claims dropped to 187,000 — the lowest level since 1969 under Richard Nixon, coming in 22,000 below the prior week and well under what economists had projected. Fewer layoffs means steadier families. Then a member of Vice President J.D. Vance's Secret Service protective detail was suspended and placed under criminal investigation for allegedly leaking operational security information to the media — specifically complaining about unpredictable travel schedules. And New York City landlords filed a lawsuit against the Mamdani administration's rent freeze — arguing that the Rent Guidelines Board was packed with political allies who then manipulated their own data to justify a two-year freeze on rents for more than a million tenants. We explain what rent freezes actually produce: slumlords, abandoned buildings, and a housing stock that deteriorates because owners cannot raise revenue to maintain it. We also cover two men stabbed in an unprovoked attack on New York City's Upper West Side — the attacker reportedly shouting Allahu Akbar — one victim Asian, one wearing a yarmulke. We note that Mamdani's response to antisemitic violence in his city is to promise to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu. We connect the violence to a broader point: when leadership sets a tone of weakness, confusion, and ideological hate, this is the inevitable result. In our Digging Deep segment, Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave what may be the clearest explanation of the Trump Doctrine we have ever heard — summarizing it in one line: Iran says eye for an eye. Trump says a head for an eye. We unpack the game theory behind it — tit for tat with disproportionate response. If you are nice to Trump, he is nice back in equal measure. If you are mean to Trump, he will be worse to you than you could ever possibly imagine. Iran fires on one tanker, the U.S. takes out a port, a tower, and every radar site in reach. Iran fires on two tankers, the U.S. goes on a 12-day bombing campaign eliminating bridges in and out of the country. The mullahs keep acting confused. The reason is they have never seen anything like this from an American president. Rubio also shared that Iran is sending messages through third countries every day begging to make a deal — but every deal they make, they either break or try to renegotiate. They are not ready yet. They will be. We also cover Ted Cruz's prediction that Zoran Mamdani will become the next U.S. senator from New York — replacing Chuck Schumer, who Cruz believes can no longer win a Democratic primary in the state — and that Mamdani is the single most powerful Democrat in America right now. We connect it to AOC leading New Hampshire polling for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, and to DSA-backed candidates winning primaries across the country. For our Bright Spot, a new Empire Center for Public Policy survey — conducted in New York, one of the most left-leaning states in the country — found that only 24% of respondents prioritize reducing greenhouse gas emissions over lower energy prices, 63% oppose mandatory home heating electrification, and 60% oppose letting individuals sue oil companies for climate change. The noisy minority demanding zero fossil fuels, electric heat mandates, and climate lawsuits does not represent most Americans — even in New York. That is common sense, and common sense is always a bright spot. We also cover the Houthis attacking two Saudi oil tankers — Iran's last meaningful proxy after Hamas was decimated by Israel and Hezbollah was severely weakened — and make the strategic case that doing the hard thing now makes tomorrow easier. Letting Iran build nuclear weapons capable of reaching Europe would have made tomorrow catastrophically harder. A former soldier just set off an incendiary device and fired an airsoft rifle right outside 26 Federal Plaza — the building that houses ICE and immigration courts. This wasn't random. Andrew Arrabaca, a 43-year-old Army veteran and National Guardsman, showed up armed with axes, a machete, knives, fireworks, and a cart reading “ICE off our streets.” He poured flammable liquid, lit the blaze, fired pellets at the building, and told investigators he didn't care if he killed people. Christina Hello, everyone, I'm Christina Darnell, the managing editor of MinistryWatch. Welcome to the MinistryWatch podcast. In today's extra episode, I talk with Warren Smith about some news items that are slightly (even significantly) outside of our normal charity and philanthropy “beat.” So, Warren, what's up first? Warren One of my “must reads” is Phil Cooke. His observations about media and leadership and lots of other topics are always short, sharp, and wise. If you're a regular listener to the podcast, you know that I've had him on the program before. Christina And today you're recommending his latest article, “When the Wheels Come Off: Why Leaders Fail in a Crisis.” Warren He says a crisis reveals a leader's true character. He advises leaders in crisis to “protect trust more than reputation.” He says, “Too many leaders try to preserve appearances. Strong leaders preserve credibility. Sometimes that means admitting mistakes publicly. The moment you stop communicating is the moment you start losing trust. Here's the hard truth: People rarely remember the crisis itself. They remember how the leader behaved. In normal seasons, leadership is strategy. In a crisis, leadership is all about character.” Christina Next up is a significant new statement from the European Evangelical Alliance. Our work here at MinistryWatch focuses mostly on the U.S. Why did you want to feature this news from the EEA? Warren Being an evangelical in Europe is a bit different than here in the United States. For one thing, evangelicals in Europe are relatively small in number. The European Evangelical Alliance claims to represent some 23 million evangelical Christians on the continent with more than 450 million people. The U.S., by comparison, has about 40 million evangelicals in a country with about 350 million people. Perhaps because European evangelicals are so much smaller in number, their aspirations for political power are more measured, you might say more modest. The EEA recently attempted, in a new document, to clarify the ‘identity and role' of evangelicals in public life. Christina And you think that American evangelicals have a lot to learn from it. Warren I do. Among other features of the document is an explicit attempt by European evangelicals to distance themselves from American evangelicals. “We oppose any political movement that undermines democratic accountability or treats any group of people as less than fully human,” the EEA says. “Evangelicals in Europe do not seek political privilege or dominance, do support a pluralistic and civil public square, do respect democratic institutions, rule of law, and human rights.” Further, they “reject coercion, manipulation, and the misuse of religion in politics.” By the way, you can read the entire statement for yourself. We have a link to it in today's show notes. Christina A new proposal by the Trump Administration caught your attention this week. Warren The federal government is considering a really bad idea. According to WORLD, “Public comment closed last Friday for a proposed Trump administration policy to combat government information leaks. The proposal would require all federal employees—in agencies ranging from the CIA to the Education Department—to sign a nondisclosure agreement.” Christina WORLD wrote a lenghy and balanced report on this topic, which we'll link to in today's show notes. But, until our listeners get a chance to read it, what else does the article say? Warren It says that “According to the Office of Personnel Management, the government-wide NDA wouldn't create new secrecy rules or increase penalties, but it would keep sensitive information secure. Violating the NDA could result in dismissal or legal penalties, the draft reads, and the agreement extends five years after federal employment ends.” Christina Free speech advocates and libertarian groups are up in arms about this proposed rule. Warren The conservative/libertarian Cato Institute has spoken out against the new rule. A coalition of roughly two dozen organizations—including journalism, transparency, and civil liberties groups—sent a joint letter arguing the rule would “silence public employees” and infringe First Amendment rights. Christina Here at MinistryWatch, we oppose non-disclosure agreements in general. Warren We do, and this one is a particularly bad idea, overbroad and a direct threat to transparency and limited government initiatives. By the way, the new proposal attracted some 30,000 comments, which you can search and read here. Christina Christianity Today's Bonnie Kristian recently did a penetrating interview with Tyler Johnson, a former pastor who now serves as chief impact officer at Come Near, the organization now responsible for He Gets Us. Warren I've never been a fan of the He Gets Us campaigns and approach, but the organizations and the philanthropists behind the campaign – including the Green Family of Hobby Lobby fame – have spent so much money in Christian media that criticism of the campaign in major Christian outlets has been muted. No one wants to derail the gravy train. That is why I give CT some credit for this interview, which asks challenging questions and does not accept cliches for answers. Christina Finally, Warren, a couple of remembrances, one of Robert Sloan, the president of Houston Baptist University, who died this week. The other is of Henry Hazlitt, who died more than 30 years ago. Warren First, Robert Sloan. I first met Robert B. Sloan at a meeting of conservative activists in 2006, right about the time he took over as president of Houston Baptist University. A few years later, I helped organize an event at HBU featuring Dr. Sloan, Marvin Olasky, and Ted Cruz. I had deep admiration for him and this news that he has died is a bit of a gut punch. He made a huge contribution to Christian higher education, and he has left many proteges who will carry on his work. That said, there are a few people I have known in my life who I think were uniquely gifted and called for their cultural moment. Chuck Colson was one. Bill Armstrong was another. Robert Sloan was one of those men. He will be missed by me and by many. You can read more about him here. Christina And Henry Hazlitt. Warren Henry Hazlitt was a journalist, syndicated columnist, and one of the big brains of the 20th century. He died on this date (July 9) in 1993. His book `Economics in One Lesson was for many years the book I would recommend to anyone who wanted to read just ONE book on economics.
