This is a fascinating discussion on what might be at the heart of economics for those committed to a worldview-understanding of human action.

Spadework is excited to present to our listeners our first themed “toolbox” episode, called “Getting Started.” Toolboxes are special content where experienced organizers from different contexts provide our listeners with “tools” to help them work through a particular organizational problem.  In this “toolbox,” we provide our listeners with different tools around the problem of getting your organizing initiative started. There's a lot of different routes and points of departure, depending on what you're working with and where you're going. The tools dropped into the toolbox aren't meant at all to provide definitive and timeless organizational answers. They're there to be tinkered with, disassembled, and reassembled according to your organizational conditions and environment. To this end, we've brought a number of organizers with experiences that range across terrains and contexts that fought in feminist, anti-racist, environmental, migration, workplace, electoral and community struggles. Our guests include: Manuela Zechner is a researcher, facilitator, and situated organizer working across feminism, ecology- and migration-related struggles. Her research focuses on collective care, micropolitics, and processes of organization and subjectivity formation in social movements. You can follow her on Twitter @zanubar Amrah Salomon J. Daniel Gutiérrez is a member of Die Linke and co-founder of Werkstatt für Bewegungsbildung. A doctoral candidate at FU Berlin, his research generally focuses on worker organization, power, and strategy in the current conjuncture. Antje Dieterich is a member of Die Linke and co-founder of Werkstatt für Bewegungsbildung. Buckle up Keepers!! This is going to be a long one AND a super fun one!! Our first "Special Edition"! Tom and Julee continue their journey through Romulan Birds-of-Prey and the usual Basement shenanigans, Tom continues spittin’ truths and Julee matches him impression for impression! So much fun!! But we must be frank: we also have the sad duty of sharing somber and bad news from the stuffed animal trash bag. We always promise lots of fun and laughs but these 70s toys are still fragile and sh%# happens -- even with the best intentions! Oh yeah: definitely don't skip the credits! You're in for a funny bumpy ride!! Hee hee Now in their forties, Julee and Tom are reconnecting as brother and sister in THE MOST distant a socially-distant podcast can be in the United States. While recording on each coast (and seeing each other over FaceTime) all the way from Los Angeles (Tom) to Boston (Julee), they start unearthing the core lessons, laughs and connections of their childhood. Plus, Julee has to fight her fear of cobwebs while Tom enjoys the comfort of his office -- yet he CAN'T touch his beloved toys like she can. As their Instagram bio indicates -- @backthroughthebasementpod -- you can follow them there to see pictures of everything they unearth -- Tom & Julee (actors, comics, voiceover artists & siblings), children of the 80s, must go through all their toys and belongings in their parents’ basement. Oh boy.

As President and CMO of FanCompass, a San Francisco-based sports technology company, Lisa Fahey is a strategic leader who brings classic experience in consumer packaged goods to the business of sport. In addition to rebranding FanCompass in 2016 and driving the company's international growth and expansion, Lisa became President of the organization in 2018. Prior to FanCompass, Lisa held leadership roles with Kraft Foods, Pepsico and pre-acquisition growth company Annie's. She has extensive background building brands to drive profitable growth and has led FanCompass to expand its product offering and increase its premier roster of professional clubs including Liverpool FC, the Cleveland Browns, Syracuse University and most recently the league-level relationships with MiLB and MLB . A graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, Lisa received an M.B.A. from the D'Amore McKim School of Business at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. Top 4 Takeaways: Lisa's career started after she got her MBA. The MBA curriculum differed dramatically from undergrad. She went from learning about a topic to diving into the deep end of research and business practices. Hyper focused to teach critical thinking skills. For Lisa, an MBA was the key to moving into the career she wanted. Your career is a stack of building blocks. Each block represents a skill acquired or a project completed. Look at your role and ask yourself, which building blocks will I acquire from this position. Work on the blocks, name the blocks, and promote your blocks. A boss or leader can put you in the right role but no one can guide your career as much as you. On balancing family and career, Lisa took a break from the work force to focus on her family and successfully re entered the workforce at the same level. You can too. Don't focus on the gap. Focus on what you contributed in the past and what you can bring in the future. On how to level up, be true to yourself, be authentic, and take ownership and all you have done. Where do the dots of the best accomplishments of your career align? Hone in on those areas and take them to the next level. Connect with Lisa on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/faheylisa/

They hope to find bacteria and enzymes that can start to degrade and chop up, very specifically, certain kinds of plastics. The research also includes a citizen science project looking at composting to see how ‘biodegradeable’ and compostable plastics break down in different environments. 6 months after binning a plastic knife in there, is it recognisable?

To artists, colors are colors. They are resources from which we communicate an image. To most other people, though, colors represent concepts. For example, in America, approximately 80% of people associate the color red with the smell or taste of berries, cherries, or fruit punch; the color blue is associated with water, sky, and blue raspberry, and pink is associated with...girls?  Gender colors didn't happen until the 1940's when pastels came into popularity and manufacturers settled on pink for girls and blue for boys (In 1918, it was pink for boys and blue for girls), so baby boomers grew up wearing the two colors. Gender neutral colors rose to popularity in the 60's and 70's but pink and blue made a comeback with the development of prenatal testing, allowing parents to know the gender so they could outfit the nursery in the "appropriate" colors.  Now, colors can be used to shame (ex. pink underwear for male inmates), and to encourage boys and girls to embrace traditional gender roles. That's what the Perception of Women panel discusses in this episode of Arts Underground.  Also, artists can have a difficult time being business savvy, but some are waking up to smell the smoke, and they're doing something about it with the Ready and Resilient workshop. We talk about it with Daniella Perallon and Eliah McCutchen.
