Fr. Mike explains why God asks his people to surrender to King Nebuchadnezzar even though it seems contradicting. We learn that God can use evil circumstances to win the hearts of his people back. In Daniel, as we read about the vision of the ram and the goat, Fr. Mike reminds us that prophecy is always shrouded in mystery. Today we read Jeremiah 26-27, Daniel 8-9, and Proverbs 16:9-12. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. This week on the Mark Levin Show, critics of President Trump's executive order on American flag burning have not read it and are misrepresenting it, as the order creates no new laws or offenses. It does not run counter to the 1989 5-4 Supreme Court decision in Texas v. Johnson. Unsurprisingly, most of the media jumped the gun, and their favorite NeverTrumpers (among others) joined in the chorus, accusing the president of lawlessness, etc. Also, France's Emmanuel Macron is a disgusting quisling. He thinks it's still Vichy France, where he'd be more comfortable. Kudos to our Ambassador to France, Charles Kushner for calling out antisemitism in France. The question media pundits keep asking: what is happening to the democrat party? What happened is that the people have learned a great deal about the Democrat Party and its ideologies over the years and they don't like it. Ideas do have consequences. Educating and reading remain crucial. Unfortunately, too many people with microphones and TV cameras have forgotten about this. Scholarship, history, philosophy still matter. They have always mattered. The gunman responsible for the shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis has been identified as transgender Robin Westman. Westman opened fire through the stained-glass windows during a celebratory mass, killing two children and injuring 17 others, including 14 kids. A manifesto reveals his psychotic obsession with mass shooters and includes anti-Semitic statements about "filthy Zionist Jews." It's sickening that people will inject their politics into this event. Evil and sick individuals will commit harmful acts regardless of circumstances. Former prosecutors and left-wing mayors blame society or weapons, but that blame leads nowhere. What's happening is the attack on faith. Faith is pushed out of the classroom and the public square. For a mayor to say don't talk about prayer, he's missing the point. Faith has turned a lot of people around; there can never be enough prayer. The United States is one of the most religious countries in the world. We have the freedom to practice any belief we would like, thanks to the Declaration of Independence. American society distinguishes between faith's role in personal life, community, and government, recognizing it as a moral and psychological foundation that influences behavior and promotes civility. Christianity, while the majority faith, does not seek governmental control, allowing faith and reason to coexist and enrich personal and societal development. Learn more about your ad choices. Matthew recounts the story of a young, hoity-toity soft-nationalist German theologian named Dietrich Bonhoeffer who discovered the radical soul of antifascism by hanging out in a Black Baptist church in Harlem in 1930. He came to the US believing in the white Jesus of European empire, but left enthralled by the Black Jesus of the oppressed. Back in Germany, he played 78s of spirituals and gospel tunes for the students of his illegal seminaries as he and other members of the Confessing Church issued some of the earliest formal rebukes to the Reich. And then he joined a plot to assassinate Hitler.  Show Notes UCLA Fires Beloved Professor Over 2024 Encampment Arrest – Poppy Press  NY Mayoral Candidates Address Sanctuary, Trump and Religious Hatred at Interfaith Forum  Religion and Socialism Working Group - Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)   Undersold and Oversold: Reinhold Neibuhr and Economic Justice  Swing Low Sweet Chariot - Fisk Jubilee Singers (1909)  St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Canton: Wade In the Water (1978)  Evangelische Kirche Halle Westfalen Bethge, Eberhard. On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, the United States is one of the most religious countries in the world. The Democrats want the opposite, this is why they are losing more support now than ever. In addition, the probe into John Bolton escalated during the Biden administration when U.S. intelligence acquired foreign espionage data indicating he improperly handled classified information. Officials say the case had already progressed independently and reflects a broader inquiry into national security practices. The left is claiming that this investigation is just a political attack, which is rediculous and not surprising. Also, Gov. Gavin Newsom is not the best Governor this country has ever had. California used to be a great state, but the left ran it down and destroyed its economy, the safety, and the ideology of the people with left-wing garbage. Lastly, David Bozell mentions about a poll that 99% of the American people are tired of crime in big cities, especially the blue cities. Bozell also discusses the attack on the Judeo-Christian communities and how the Minneapolis shooting and many other cases are getting out of hand. Learn more about your ad choices. Have you ever walked through a spiritual drought? When life feels dry, doubts weigh heavy, and you wonder if you’ll ever feel God’s presence again? Isaiah 58:11 reminds us that the Lord guides us continually, even in scorched places, and makes us like a well-watered garden. Spiritual fruitfulness doesn’t come from our own striving but from surrendering to God’s leading, satisfaction, and strength. When we allow Him to guide our steps, fill our longings, and strengthen our weary bones, we will find refreshment and renewal—even in the wilderness. In today’s episode, Jessica Van Roekel reminds us that God is our living water, bracing us in weakness and filling us with satisfaction again and again. When we rely on Him, our lives become springs of comfort to others, bearing fruit that points to His glory. Main Takeaways God guides us by turning His face toward us and leading us step by step. His satisfaction is ongoing—He fills us again and again, even in dry seasons. He braces us with strength when we feel like we can’t go on. True fruitfulness flows from surrender to God and blesses others around us. Bible Verse References Isaiah 58:11 – God satisfies us in scorched places and makes us fruitful. 1 Corinthians 10:13 – God provides a way out in temptation. The U.S. capital is disgracefully reinstalling a statue of Confederate General Albert Pike, infamous for alleged KKK ties, opposing racial integration, and supporting the expulsion of freed slaves. This decision, after the statue was toppled by George Floyd protesters, isn't about preserving history, but a blatant symbol of bigotry and hatred that activates deep-seated trauma for many. It's a "sermon in stone" demonstrating a disturbing commitment to "owning the libs" and perpetuating white supremacy over fostering genuine inclusivity. This move further exposes how historical figures are wielded to fuel cultural bias, prioritizing fear and prejudice over a truthful, inclusive understanding of our past and honoring a failed traitor.News Source:Statue Of Confederate General With Ku Klux Klan Ties To Be Reinstalled In Washington, D.C.By Mitti Hicks for Black EnterpriseAugust 5, 2025

OPC pastor Christopher Drew guides us through the monumental 20th chapter of the Westminster Confession of Faith. Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UzQzFMXyKA Text: CHAPTER 20 Of Christian Liberty, and Liberty of Conscience 1. The liberty which Christ hath purchased for believers under the gospel consists in their freedom from the guilt of sin, the condemning wrath of God, the curse of the moral law; and, in their being delivered from this present evil world, bondage to Satan, and dominion of sin; from the evil of afflictions, the sting of death, the victory of the grave, and everlasting damnation; as also, in their free access to God, and their yielding obedience unto him, not out of slavish fear, but a childlike love and willing mind. All which were common also to believers under the law. But, under the new testament, the liberty of Christians is further enlarged, in their freedom from the yoke of the ceremonial law, to which the Jewish church was subjected; and in greater boldness of access to the throne of grace, and in fuller communications of the free Spirit of God, than believers under the law did ordinarily partake of. 2. God alone is Lord of the conscience, and hath left it free from the doctrines and commandments of men, which are, in anything, contrary to his Word; or beside it, if matters of faith, or worship. So that, to believe such doctrines, or to obey such commands, out of conscience, is to betray true liberty of conscience: and the requiring of an implicit faith, and an absolute and blind obedience, is to destroy liberty of conscience, and reason also. 3. They who, upon pretense of Christian liberty, do practice any sin, or cherish any lust, do thereby destroy the end of Christian liberty, which is, that being delivered out of the hands of our enemies, we might serve the Lord without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. 4. And because the powers which God hath ordained, and the liberty which Christ hath purchased, are not intended by God to destroy, but mutually to uphold and preserve one another, they who, upon pretense of Christian liberty, shall oppose any lawful power, or the lawful exercise of it, whether it be civil or ecclesiastical, resist the ordinance of God. And, for their publishing of such opinions, or maintaining of such practices, as are contrary to the light of nature, or to the known principles of Christianity (whether concerning faith, worship, or conversation), or to the power of godliness; or, such erroneous opinions or practices, as either in their own nature, or in the manner of publishing or maintaining them, are destructive to the external peace and order which Christ hath established in the church, they may lawfully be called to account, and proceeded against, by the censures of the church.

I'll bet you didn't know that Christianity is like suntan lotion. Huh? Neither did I until I was speaking at a conference, and I took my oldest son with me. He was about 12 or 13 I think (my poor kids had to listen to their Dad speak so many times). Well, we were on our way home on the plane, and all of a sudden on this long trip from the West, my son said to me, "Hey, Dad, you know what? I finally listened to a lot of your talks this time." Let's see, was that's good news/bad news. I don't know what he was doing before. But he said, "You know what? I've figured out that Christianity is a lot like suntan lotion." I said what you would have said, "What?" He said, "You know, if you put a big, old blob of suntan lotion on your arm, it doesn't do you any good until you rub it in." I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Your Bible - Informed or Transformed?" Now, our word for today from the Word of God comes from Joshua 1:8 where we have God's formula for success. "Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth: meditate on it day and night..." By the way, that word meditate is used in Hebrew to talk about a cow chewing its cud. So, chew it over and over again. Why? "...so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful." Now, you get what God is saying to Joshua? I think it's His message to you and me today. The purpose of reading is not just to know something. It's to find something to do. When Jesus was talking to the 12 disciples about going out in the Great Commission to disciple people all around the world, He said, "Go and make disciples of all nations teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." Don't just tell them what there is to know; teach them to do it. James 1 again says that the Bible is like a mirror. When you look in a mirror, you're supposed to change something because of what you see there. Right? The one reason there's such a gap between our beliefs and our behavior is because we won't in my son's words, "Rub it in." We have these great big blobs of spiritual truth all over us. We've been hearing it forever. We went to church a couple of times this week, we've got this guy that keeps coming at us on the radio, we've got Bible studies, we've got websites. The problem is that we tend to go for information rather than transformation; for application of what God says. To answer the question, "So what? What's this supposed to do in my life." It's one thing to read the Bible; it's another thing to let the Bible read you. God's interested in what difference His Word is making in you today, not just whether you can pass a Bible quiz. What did you read today? What are you doing differently today because of it? When God says meditate on it, what does that mean? Does that mean you stare into space blankly, kind of an Eastern mysticism thing? Not at all! You think about something you read in the Bible until you have made a connection between what you read and something you're going to face today. That's Christian meditation. It's not focusing on nothing; it's focusing on what God said and then you've meditated when you've connected that there's something you should do with it today. I think you ought to keep a spiritual journal and write down every day, "What did I read today in my own words? What did God say today and what am I going to do differently because God said it?" If you're in a position where you teach God's Word to people, even if you're just a parent doing that, make sure you always answer the unspoken question I think people are asking, "So what? Okay, it's true. So, what do you want me to do with it?" By all means answer that question for yourself. Look, have you gotten a little lazy as you read God's Word, just sort of accumulating more Bible information? That leads to boredom, it leads to powerlessness, and the illusion of spiritual life. Those Bible blobs? They're not going to do you much good until you rub them in.

On this Freedom Friday, we wrapped up our weekly theme, “Back to School,” with a few professors and staff members from Moody Bible Institute (MBI). First, we were joined by Dr. John Mabus to discuss healthy spiritual formation. Dr. Mabus is an Associate Professor of Applied Theology and Church Ministries at MBI. For the past 14 years, Dr. Mabus served as a Navy Chaplain, sharing the gospel and caring for people in the context of military life. He also has professional interests in spiritual formation and discipleship, reformation practices in pastoral care and discipleship, suicide prevention and intervention, and leadership advisement and coaching. Then, we were joined by Kelli Worrall to discuss the significance of communication in the Bible. Kelli is a Professor of Communications at MBI and the Field Chair for the Music and Media Arts Division. She is also the author of “20 Things We’d Tell Our Twentysomethings Selves.”Then we had Dr. Mikel Del Rosario join us to discuss the legitimacy of the New Testament Bible manuscripts, despite the differences in their wording. Dr. Del Rosario currently teaches apologetics, philosophy, ethics, and Bible as a Professor of Bible and Theology at MBI. Before coming to Moody, he taught Apologetics classes at Jessup University in California. He has a passion for helping Christians find clear answers to tough questions about Christianity and explaining their faith with courage and compassion. Then we had Dr. Mary Hendrickson join us to discuss how our personalities can affect the way we read the Bible. Dr. Hendrickson is an Assistant Professor of Human Services and Pre-Counseling at MBI. Today's Promise: John 15:9 If there is one word that summarizes the Gospel, it's love. From the beginning, love was the central theme of Christianity. God loves you so much that He gave His Son. Jesus said, as much as God loves Him, He loves us. Now here is the twist. Jesus loves you as much as God loves Him. Jesus invites you to live in His love. To "abide" is to connect or rest. We are to rest and "make ourselves at home" in the love of Christ. As you abide in His love, His love flows through you to the world around you.

Fr. Mike touches on Proverbs 16:3, which is about giving everything in our lives to the service of the Lord. He also emphasizes how important it is to humble ourselves before the Lord, so to avoid becoming like the false prophets Jeremiah talks about today. Today's readings are Jeremiah 23, Daniel 4-5, and Proverbs 16:1-4. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear.
