Can you love both Zack Snyder's MAN OF STEEL and James Gunn's SUPERMAN? While online discourse often paints fans as divided, there are many who appreciate both interpretations of the iconic hero. In this episode of Missing Frames' Celebrating Superman series, Shawn is joined by fellow Nerd Party members Matthew Rushing and John Mills—two longtime Superman fans who enjoy both Snyder's and Gunn's visions of the character. Together, they explore what makes each take so compelling, and why tearing down others for their personal preferences runs counter to everything Superman represents.HOSTSShawn EastridgeJohn MillsMatthew Rushing

Check our gravitational force, bitches! Welcome back to The Rewatch Party. This week, we go big blue and get loud, as it's knives out time for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. We're talking about the World Engines, musty atmospheres, and an opening five minutes that somehow turns Krypton into a thirst joke. We dive deep into the film that changed everything for the DC universe, and we don't pull any punches. Do we name-check James Gunn's Superman a non-zero amount of times? Yes. Is Henry Cavill's torso treated like a national monument? Yes. We also get into the real MVP of the film: the town of Sandwich, Illinois. Also on the menu: Kal-El as space Moses and helpful tips about thumbs as a measurement system. We roast Snyder, pitch a “Lawrence Fishburn” seafood restaurant, and get into the real controversy: a neck snap while the main fight scene likely killed half a city. It's a "Lawrence Fishburn" seafood-joint pitch that somehow becomes the dream. It's a spicy one, so come for the chaos, stay for the punchlines, and maybe a new restaurant concept. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0770828/

Superman Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, Spoiler Review!! Andrew Gordon (Cinepals) & Tara Erickson react to Superman (2025), the first chapter in James Gunn's DCU reboot and the opening of the Superman Saga, now available on digital! After saying goodbye to Zack Snyder's Justice League (Henry Cavill in Man Of Steel & Batman V Superman) it's now times for David Corenswet (Pearl, The Politician) dons the cape as Clark Kent/Superman in a heartfelt and action-packed reimagining of the Man of Steel, alongside Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, House of Cards) as Lois Lane. The film blends classic Superman optimism with modern storytelling, introducing a balanced life between heroics and Clark's daily world in Metropolis. Co-starring Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, Renfield) as a brilliant and manipulative Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo (The Righteous Gemstones, Booksmart) as Jimmy Olsen, and Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Rosaline) as Hawkgirl, with Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion (The Rookie, Firefly) as Guy Gardner's Green Lantern, and Anthony Carrigan (Barry, Gotham) as Metamorpho. Featuring breathtaking action sequences, heartfelt Daily Planet banter, and the promise of a bigger connected DC Universe, Superman sets the stage for the Superman Saga's next chapter. In this reaction we break down the standout moments, hidden DCU easter eggs, and the film's balance of hope, humor, and heroism. #superman2025 #jamesgunn #dcuniverse There was a lot riding on James Gunn's first swing at Superman. It's the first major motion picture in his DC Universe and would mark a dramatic change of tone from Zack Snyder's last projects with everyone's favorite Kryptonian. Fortunately for all involved, it was a big hit at the box office --- but did it put wind in our capes? As two nerds for movies, comics, and comic book movies, you'll want to stick around and share your thoughts on not just this movie, but what it hints at for the future of this new chapter for DC Comics on the silver screen. Send us a textSuperman flies onto screens with a divisive splash as James Gunn attempts to resurrect DC's cinematic universe. Our hosts Michael, Addy, and a special guest dive into whether this fresh take soars or crashes under the weight of universe-building ambitions. What makes Superman so challenging to adapt? The team explores why this iconic character has struggled in modern cinema, comparing Gunn's approach to previous incarnations from Zack Snyder's gritty Man of Steel to Brandon Rauth's Superman Returns. They question whether any filmmaker can recapture the magic of Christopher Reeve's classic portrayal and if Gunn was the right choice to helm DC's rebirth. The conversation heats up around the film's juggling act of introducing too many characters while trying to tell Superman's story. "Instead of giving us 10 million different characters, why don't you just flesh out the rivalry between Lex Luthor and Superman?" one host demands. They debate the political messaging that becomes more apparent on second viewing, the on-the-nose dialogue about morality, and whether the stellar cast performances can save a script lacking nuance. With ratings ranging from a dismal 1/5 to a respectable 7.5/10, this spirited debate captures the polarizing nature of modern superhero cinema and what it means for DC's future.Subscribe, share your thoughts in the comments, and join our passionate community of movie lovers who aren't afraid to speak their minds about the films that shape our cultural landscape. The Gorehound, Cuz, and Nick are back for a new installment for the Summer of Superman! This week, they check out the two attempted reboots for Superman: Superman Returns and Man of Steel. Are they any good? You'll see...
We investigate Zack Snyder's 2013 Superman origin film Man of Steel, comparing it with the new 2025 Superman movie and reflecting on how its controversial approach continues to influence superhero films a decade later.• Krypton sequences featuring Russell Crowe and Michael Shannon stand as the film's strongest segments• Flashback structure feels disjointed and lacks clear purpose or emotional throughline• Kevin Costner's tornado death scene remains controversial and doesn't make logical sense• The massive destruction of Metropolis during the climactic battle set a precedent superhero films still react against• Henry Cavill never got the opportunity to show Superman's hopeful, optimistic side• General Zod provides a compelling villain with understandable motivations• The film's neck-snap ending needed more emotional aftermath to be effective• DC's rushed attempt to create a cinematic universe ultimately undermined what could have been a thoughtful trilogy• Animated Superman adaptations like "My Adventures with Superman" often capture the character better than live-actionLetterbox'd Synopsis: A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.
As the 2025 version of Superman cleans up at the global box office, Jay sends Mike to 1987 to watch the most maligned version of "the man of steel" this side of anything Zack Snyder touched. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace was Christopher Reeve's final screen outing as the character which began with the largely beloved '78 Superman. Will their respect for the actor's undeniable skill and charisma withstand a movie featuring "Nuclear Man" as its main villain? Find out in Mike's main review and then stick around as the guys count down their Bottom Five Super Powers, a list of extraordinary abilities they find anything but. After that, the co-hosts dust off Kick Two, Pick Two to pay tribute to one of Mike's fallen heroes, after which he wipes his tears by assigning Jay the next film that'll keep this "Hot Filmjitsu Summer" a cinematic scorcher!
Though we couldn't gather the entire podcast staff, Robbie and Art still managed to produce an episode that should strike a chord with music-loving listeners. Following Robbie's recent visit to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and the iconic FAME Recording Studios, the two Guys take note of the incredible amount of musical talent that has recorded there. Aretha Franklin, the Rolling Stones, Wilson Pickett, Paul Simon, and Etta James are just a few of the artists who have made their way to Alabama and worked with the late Rick Hall, backed by the legendary "Swampers" studio musicians. Geeks of the week include Robbie's look at a role-playing game inspired by Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon—no word on if there's a slo-mo option.
This week on Comics and Chronic we're marking our milestone 300th episode with Zack Snyder's 300 based off the cult classic graphic novel by Frank Miller. In 480 B.C. a state of war exists between Persia, led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Greece. At the Battle of Thermopylae, Leonidas (Gerard Butler), king of the Greek city state of Sparta, leads his badly outnumbered warriors against the massive Persian army. Though certain death awaits the Spartans, their sacrifice inspires all of Greece to unite against their common enemy. We made it to episode 300 despite Cody's sabotage attempts at a comedy festival & Anthony's desire to change our name. But first Jake learns how to correctly pronounce Bon Iver. This movie is stacked with actors such as Gerard Butler, Lena Headey, Dominic West, Michael Fassbender, & others. Is this movies ableist? This is a dude's DUDE movie. Men killing, sweaty CGI and, boobies, murder, blood, wolves, cripples everything a man needs to see to feel like a man. Also gave rise to one of cinema's most famous lines: “THIS IS SPARTA!” This is easily o e of or if not Zack Snyder's best movie. Some great fight scenes and cinematography even with the CGI. It's also almost page for page the comic 300. Could the Hot Boys have held the hot gates? Where does 300 rank on Zack Snyder's movies with fans? Anthony's childhood is similar to that of a boy's childhood in 300? Did this movie destroy what the ideal male body should look like? How does this movie age now that we're no longer hormonal teenage boys? Tune in today for our milestone 300th episode!New episodes every THURSDAYFollow us on social media! We went to the theater to see James Gunn’s “Superman” (2025) and are back to report about the pleasant experience. Gunn sets a new direction for DC superheroes, and fans of Zack Snyder may want to look elsewhere. [School of Movies 2025] This is a BIG one folks, the first major change in direction for silver screen DC comics adaptations since Nolan's Batman Begins in 2005 (though it has plenty of recent tonal forerunners to back it up, including Aquaman, Blue Beetle and the first Shazam! all of which we recommend seeing as well). This is what Warner Bros. were blushingly groping for in 2017 while trying to course-correct Zack Snyder's Justice League in the edit. But it isn't just a statement of intent for the future and a mission statement for potentially carving out a much more successful, crowd-pleasing cinematic universe, this is, first and foremost a GREAT superhero movie, bringing an even less-compromised version of Clark to the big screen than the classic Donner films. The red outerpants are back, bringing with them an unabashed joy at finally getting to be THIS version of itself, powered by phenomenally talented young stars and balancing humour with heart. The level of adulation and happiness we've seen exhibited over this one has been nourishing, and while there's plenty who have a bone to pick over decisions made within this flawed and messy movie I'd really like it to be the opposite of Snyder's take, and be a unifying rather than dividing force. So all are welcome, you don't have to agree with us, and maybe we can illuminate the qualities on show here in a way that helps some folks tentatively embrace Superman. In this episode of Sigma Duocast, Rick and Rudy suit up to share their thoughts on James Gunn's Superman (2025) — and the capes don't quite align. Rick gives the film a 4/10, while Rudy scores it a solid 6.5/10, sparking an honest, deep-dive discussion filled with sharp insight, bold opinions, and signature banter.Rick offers a fair and open-minded perspective as he contrasts Gunn's hopeful, idealistic Superman with Zack Snyder's darker, mythic take. While he respects the creative direction, he explores where the film fell flat for him — from Superman's vague weaknesses and uneven storytelling to a Lex Luthor portrayal that left much to be desired.Rudy balances the discussion by pointing out the film's strengths — its charm, tone, and attempts at world-building — while also acknowledging its shortcomings. The result is a thoughtful, passionate, and often humorous conversation that digs into the heart of what makes Superman work (or not) in a new cinematic era.Tune in for hot takes, honest dialogue, and plenty of moments that'll make you think twice before putting on that cape.

Brace yourselves, everyone. It's Zack Snyder time. Our Superman retrospective takes us to Man of Steel. Henry Cavill's first outing as Superman has proven divisive over the years. Some people criticize it for a gritty, overly serious tone, while others credit it with a challenging but original take on the character, with expanded mythology to boot. To break it down, we welcome on Tailon Russell of The Comic Panel Podcast to discuss Cavill and Amy Adams, Snyder's direction, and whether or not they should have destroyed so many buildings. What do you think about Man of Steel? Let us know at cinemaontappodcast@gmail.com

Today as we anticipate the opening of James Gunn's new Superman film, we're flying into a deep discussion on 2013's Man of Steel, the divisive Zack Snyder film that reimagined Superman for a new era.And joining me are two longtime friends of the show and Superman storytellers in their own right—Art Baltazar and Franco, the award-winning creative duo behind Tiny Titans, Superman Adventures, and Superman of Smallville. We compare their vision of the character—lighthearted, hopeful, and kid-friendly—with the darker, more intense take seen in Man of Steel. It's a fun and thoughtful chat about what makes Superman Superman, and how different creators interpret the Last Son of Krypton.Whether you love Snyder's film or had issues with it, this conversation offers a fresh perspective from two guys who love the character and have helped pass him on to a whole new generation.Up, up, and let's get into it.
