This week on WCBs, we look at the new Superman trailer, compare it to Marvel's Ironheart debacle, and get real honest about Zack Snyder. We also have an on air revelation: Men In Black is AWESOME
It's time to review one of our most requested movies since we started the show... Watchmen! The film that helped put Zack Snyder on the map and got him the DC films to come, Watchmen is a non-traditional super hero movie in many respects but it is oh so deep and nuanced with nerdy discussions to be had. We also review the Ultimate Edition which adds so much more to the movie. Helping us with this meaty film is our great friend of the show Eric Blattberg! Before we jump into the film we also break down our top 5 Director Cuts of all time. It's a long movie so it's a long show. So grab your masks, put on some Bob Dylan, and don't forget... everything's a joke... it's time for Watchmen on The Movie Defenders podcast! SUPERMAN TRAILER BREAKDOWN AND REACTIONS will be the main topic tonight. A lot of discourse is out there but also a lot of hype for the new Superman trailer.
It's just two of your favorite Fiorentina podcast idiots in this one--McMike's off listening to birdsong to write an Oliver Messiaen-type symphony--but we've got enough gloom for the three of us. Producer Mike and Tito run through the grimmest week of results in recent Viola memory. Yep, we're talking about losses at opposite ends of the spectrum (Real Betis and Venezia) that result in similar outcomes: goodbye Europe. Don't worry, though. We don't confine ourselves to just that one kind of sadness. We look ahead to the potential repercussions of missing out on continental competition, looking at who might be edging towards the exit and which loanees saw their chances of sticking in Florence drastically reduced. We tried to avoid going full Zack Snyder and interspersed the grim dark greys and muted blues with the odd Wes Anderson pastel: Producer Mike pouring his first-ever beer, for example, or Tito trying to combine American football, the Tyrannosaurus Rex, and a shrimp. Thank you to Sport Social Podcast Network for hosting us and to Windchime Weather for the music. As always, we hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed making this. Forza Viola! When there's no more room in Hell…THE DEAD WILL PODCAST!This week on *The Rotten Horror Picture Show*, Clay and Amanda are taking a trip to the Monroeville Mall to talk about George A. Romero's 1978 horror classic *Dawn of the Dead*, a movie that changed Clay himself, and zombie cinema, forever. It's got biting social satire, gruesome practical effects, and an absolutely relentless sense of dread. And, of course, it takes place in a shopping mall—one that might as well be *Hell on Earth* as far as I'm concerned. You think I'm walking into a mall after watching zombies shuffle through JC Penney? Not a chance. I don't even do curbside pickup.I know people love *Dawn of the Dead*. I know it's a classic. I know it's one of the most important horror films ever made. But let me tell you something—I saw this movie when I was way too young, and I have *never* set foot in a shopping mall since. Not once. Not a single store. No supermarkets, no corner shops, nothing. You think I'm being dramatic? Try watching hordes of gray-skinned, dead-eyed freaks stumbling through a shopping center at the age of eight and tell me it doesn't rewire your brain forever. Oh, and it's not just malls. You think I'm walking into a grocery store? Have you *seen* what happens when the looting starts in this movie? Absolute chaos. Nope. I grow my own vegetables. I raise my own chickens. I trade with my neighbor for whatever else I need. You can keep your fluorescent-lit zombie death traps. Anyway, Clay and Amanda are braver than me, so they're diving deep into this horror masterpiece. If you've got the guts to listen, tune in. Just don't invite me shopping afterward. I'll be staying *far* away. And be sure to hit up patreon.com/thepenskyfile to hear their companion coverage of the Zack Snyder remake!
In this episode, our format gets irrevocably broken because Stefan actually saw this one in theaters (without ever having seen a single Living Dead film before). How will we ever recover? Well, Jordan and Stefan manage to discuss the film ANYWAY so THERE. This remake takes the mall location from the 1978 original and adds many Zack Snyder flourishes, such as slow motion and fast zombies. Stefan remembers liking it. What will he think now that he has context? Find out.

Send us a textStep into the shadowy world of "Pathfinder," Marcus Nispel's forgotten 2007 action film that stands as a fascinating study in missed opportunities. Released in the same week as Zack Snyder's "300" with a comparable budget, this Karl Urban-starring vehicle attempted similar visual flair but stumbled where "300" soared. The premise holds genuine intrigue: a Viking child, abandoned and raised by Native Americans in 800 AD North America, must later defend his adoptive people when his bloodthirsty biological culture returns to pillage and destroy. It's a setup ripe with potential for exploring identity, belonging, and choosing one's own path—yet "Pathfinder" reduces these rich themes to a straightforward revenge tale drowning in murky cinematography.Throughout our discussion, we unpack the film's fundamental flaws: characters without names or development, confusing action sequences where you can barely distinguish one Viking from another, and logical inconsistencies that break immersion. The Viking villains pursue destruction for destruction's sake, forgoing more historically accurate and compelling motivations like resource acquisition or taking slaves. Even the special edition's reportedly excised sex scene becomes a curious footnote in a film already struggling with basic storytelling coherence. What makes "Pathfinder" particularly fascinating is comparing it to Nispel's later work on "Conan the Barbarian," revealing a director who seemed to learn some lessons while repeating others. For fans of Karl Urban, we recommend skipping this misfire and heading straight to "Dredd" for a masterclass in how to use the actor's talents effectively. Whether you're a student of film looking to understand what makes a movie work (by examining one that doesn't) or simply curious about this forgotten chapter in action cinema history, our deep dive into "Pathfinder" offers both entertainment and insight into how even promising concepts can lose their way in execution.Written lovingly by AIBe our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT

Yes, friends, it's time to review Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. No, I didn't edit that title at all. Please, help us. We have to watch Wonder Woman 1984 next. COMEBACK OR BACKTRACK?! Greg Alba & Coy Jandreau (DC Studios) dive deep into the week's biggest entertainment stories with unfiltered opinions and plenty of laughs. They kick things off by responding to feedback from last week's podcast, questioning if they've fallen into the clickbait trap, and exploring how tribalism is ruining media literacy. The conversation then shifts to Dwayne Johnson's bold career reinvention, taking on a Martin Scorsese Hawaiian crime saga (potentially alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt) and starring in Benny Safdie's The Smashing Machine. Coy & Greg break down what this shift could mean for The Rock's future as a serious actor, drawing comparisons to Dave Bautista's transformative career path. They then tackle Will Smith's sequel spree—Hancock 2 and I Am Legend 2 are officially in development—as they debate whether this is a strategic comeback post-Oscars slap or a risky play to reclaim his blockbuster legacy. Smith's musical return also sparks discussion on his evolving public image and audience trust. Next, the duo dives into Amazon's acquisition of the James Bond franchise, expressing concerns about a potential Bond Cinematic Universe that could dilute the franchise's classic charm. Will Amazon respect 007's legacy, or will we see unnecessary spin-offs and forced TV shows? They also break down: Zack Snyder & James Gunn's viral photo—uniting fandoms or stirring the pot? Marvel's recent project cancellations and the latest Daredevil: Born Again updates. The potential return of The Defenders to the MCU. Coy's thoughts on name-dropping, industry insecurities, and the evolution of YouTube discourse. Matt Damon's casting in The Odyssey and the broader question of how Hollywood handles legacy characters. The growing issue of celebrity worship, media clickbait, and fandom extremism. Plus, the conversation takes some wild turns, covering Kanye West, the need to let Zack Snyder move on, and debates over Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Donnie Wahlberg, and Mark Wahlberg. The episode wraps up with big-picture thoughts on fandoms, media culture, and the evolving landscape of Hollywood.

Our friend and regular guest Chris Gethard takes an episodes to deliver his quibbles with some flaws in Watchmen. You know Chris from his stand-up comedy, from his podcast Beautiful/Anonymous, from his TV show The Chris Gethard Show. The Milksops know him from their days together at the UCB Theatre in NYC. We had invited Chris -- who is a passionate comics fan -- to be our guest on a regular episode. Gethard suggested that he be on a special episode since he worrites his takes would detract from a regular coverage. We started calling this a "rebuttal" episode. Although Gethard takes pains to underline that he loves and admires the comic, and even agrees that it is one of the very best created, he doesn't think that means it's above criticism, and so he takes the book to task. We get into lots of ideas: the defensiveness of Watchmen fans, the pirate comic, the portrayal of the alien, the idea that the much-maligned Zack Snyder film had a better ending and other things! It's a passionate discussion and an interesting one! ---------- Subscribe to support and to get bonus monthly episodes at screwitpodcasts.com Join our Discord -- invite link also at screwitpodcasts.com

This is a new adaptation of the classic 1986 comic book, so while the plot points of this film are openly discussed, it can hardly be called SPOILERS. Watchmen Chapter 2 is the second half of the animated adaptation of the classic 1986 comic book series. It picks up directly where Chapter 1 ended. Brandon Vietti directed both Chapters and is making his third appearance on the podcast. In this episode, Vietti discusses specific changes he made to the story based on original ideas and influence from the 2009 Zack Snyder film. He also addresses potential viewers who saw the 2019 HBO/MAX series Watchmen and may consider this film to be a prequel. Vietti also addresses the projects he's worked on that he's most known for. Watchmen Chapter 2 is out on digital and on Blu-Ray/DVD.
