We all can relate to this guy. (referenced by Shereen at 11:45) If you're wondering why the West doesn't seem to show enough help and empathy towards Palestinian people, it's deeply rooted in racism. Western media unapologetically dehumanizes Arabs and anyone who doesn't fit the 'white with blue eyes' stereotype. This is the core issue; they don't see us as humans. Former World Cup winner Heather O'Reilly and former professional player Pat Nevin join Mani Djazmi to discuss FIFA - football's world governing body decision to have a 48 team men's World Cup which will have 104 matches and spread across six weeks. Guinea is a country that has never qualified for the World Cup and Mani speaks to their goalkeeper Aly Keita who is in favour of expanding the competition. The team also discuss the ongoing disagreement between United States coach Greg Berhalter and former teammate Claudio Reyna. Berhalter was cleared by an legal investigation into an incident of domestic violence 30 years ago. The incident from 1992 was brought to light by former USA players Claudio and Danielle Reyna who are parents of one of the USA's current players, Geo. They've been friends with the Berhalters for decades but were unhappy about the lack of playing time. The report also revealed new facts about Claudio Reyna whom, it says, was uncooperative and a pushy parent. Plus have a panel accidentally started a riot? That's after a title-deciding match between Al-Ahed and Al-Ansar couldn't finish after a goal scored in injury-time by Ahed's Scottish striker Lee Erwin sparked a riot by Ansar fans who set seats on fire and threw them onto the pitch forcing the refereeing officials to run for cover. We'll also hear a special guest!

Episode 110: Nadav Lapid on Ahed's Knee Welcome to The Last Thing I Saw. I'm your host, Nicolas Rapold. The filmmaker Nadav Lapid has made one tense, kinetic, indelibly original drama after another: Policeman, The Kindergarten Teacher, Synonyms, and now Ahed's Knee. Ahed's Knee premiered at the Cannes film festival last year where it shared the Jury Prize with Memoria, and it opened in New York on March 18. The film follows an Israeli director who is presenting one of his movies in a small town, thanks to an invitation by a young, eager library official. But when he arrives, she asks him to sign a government form saying exactly what topics he can and cannot talk about. The director—who's named only with the letter Y—lashes out at his host. But the small community doesn't have exactly the reaction he might expect. The film's title refers to a well-known incident when a Palestinain teenager named Ahed Tamimi slapped an Israeli soldier, and a conservative politician responded by saying that she should be shot in the knee. I spoke with Lapid about the film's ferocious vision and how it explores the idea of speaking out, among other things. This week on the Film at Lincoln Center podcast, we're featuring a programmer's preview on our Kinuyo Tanaka Retrospective, and a Q&A from the 59th New York Film Festival with director Nadav Lapid on Ahed's Knee,  moderated by NYFF Programmer Rachel Rosen. As an actress in over 250 films, Kinuyo Tanaka was one of the most celebrated and wildly popular artists of her time, regularly collaborating with consummate masters like Yasujirō Ozu, Kenji Mizoguchi, and Mikio Naruse. Between 1953 and 1962, Tanaka directed half a dozen films with a determined sense of freedom and touches of provocation, placing women at the forefront of her movies as mistresses, prostitutes, poets, heroines, and victims of social injustice. The Kinuyo Tanaka Retrospective, featuring brand new 4K restorations of her directorial work and 35mm screenings of her collaborations as an actor, takes place March 18 - 27! Listen to an introduction to the filmmaker from Assistant Programmer Tyler Wilson and rediscover the groundbreaking auteur at filmlinc.org/tanaka. Also opening this Friday, Ahed's Knee is Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid's shattering follow-up to his bat-out-of-hell Synonyms (NYFF57). A film of radical style and splenetic anger, Ahed's Knee accompanies a celebrated but increasingly dissociated director to a small town in the desert region of Arava for a screening of his latest film. Already anguished by the news of his mother's fatal illness (Lapid's film was made soon after the death of his own mother, who had worked as his editor for many years), he grows frustrated with a speech-restricting form he is encouraged to sign by a local Ministry of Culture worker. The confrontation ultimately sends him into a spiral of rage aimed at what he perceives as the censorship, hypocrisy, and violence of the Israeli government. This boldly shot and conceived work, which won the Grand Jury Prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival, feels as though it has welled up from the depths of its maker's soul. Ahed's Knee opens this Friday with filmmaker Q&As at the 6pm screenings on Friday and Saturday, and a special Film Comment Free Talk with Lapid at 8:30pm on Friday. My Dream Log Cabin- Log Cabin Construction Discussion and Stories of How Others Achieved The Log Cabin Dream - Tune In to lea

Maybe it's Covid or maybe people are just fed up with the city and ready to head to the country to realize their dream of living in a log cabin. Whatever the reason is, countless people are packing up and moving all over the country.  There is evidence of this in real estate trends and contractors schedules. We've polled land brokers and realtors across the country and the consensus is that quality land is selling fast.  Additionally, contractors in various parts of the country are booked out in some cases 2 years or more.  As a result, it is becoming increasingly difficult for families looking to relocate and build a dream home in a rapid fashion. Today, we want to discuss a general timeframe outline to help you gauge what to expect as well as share insider secrets to help you COLLAPSE the time investment. Lindsay interviews our in house draftsman Stuart Yoder, who inspired this topic to be released because of the backlog he is experiencing in the design department. With a sudden influx of projects we are discovering people are looking to build their dream home in the summer of 2021; however, some important pieces need to be in place before that can happen. Todays episode reveals those pieces and outlines how you can keep your planned project on schedule without the interference of timely delays. Visit www.mydreamloghome.com to find out more. The Sea That You Cannot See by Dganit Elyakim dedicated to Haitham Khatib How do you deliver a message of hope in our forlorn reality? Maybe the answer lies in the sea, which is completely indifferent to the nations that “rule” its beach shores, they rise and fall, like the sea waves. I asked my friends to describe the sea to their beloveds from the other side of the barrier, the ones who are prevented from approaching it. The actor, director and writer Mohamad Bakri described the sea to his friend Hassan; Hanan Zaid Elkilani, a young, emerging art student, portrayed the sea to her father's friend, Prof. Ahsan Eldick, from Nablus; Maya Felixbrodt (viola) played for the freedom fighters Ahed (16) and Nariman Tamimi from Nabi Saleh; Adaya Godlevsky (harp) dedicated her playing to the children of Palestine; and Samira Saraya painted the sea in words and sang for her family in the refugee camp in Jenin. Dganit Elyakim is a composer and an artist. Her music depicts various aspects of the human and digital paradigm. Her oeuvre includes chamber, vocal, and electroacoustic compositions, as well as music for theatre, dance, new-media and video. In 2016, she released her debut album “Failing Better”. Lecturer at Shenkar College and artistic director of “The Unbearable Lightness of Coherency” concert series. In 2018, she will be a guest artist at La Cité Internationale Des Arts in Paris and at Styria Artist in Residence in Graz. Lascia Vibrare: There's a Family Living by Eran Sachs Dedicated to Michael Zupraner At the center of this piece there is a field recording of a family, captured from a distance. On first listen there doesn't seem to be anything particularly special about this recording; but over the course of this reportage it becomes apparent that the act of documentation may register more than one might have initially suspected. Eran Sachs is a composer, improviser and sound-artist working in Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv. He has been playing his unpredictable analogue system - the No-input Mixer - both solo and in various collaborative projects. He was a member of the International Hyperion Ensemble, which revolves around the works of the Romanian composers Iancu Dumitrescu and Ana-Maria Avram. Al-Ahed al-Jadid begins at 14:06. The end of the new era? With cabinet still not on the horizon—and Ben starting to lose hope—we thought we would look at two important anniversaries coming up: two years since Aoun took office and one year since Hariri's shock, since rescinded, resignation in Saudi Arabia. But first, in the twenty-fifth episode of The Lebanese Politics Podcast, Benjamin Redd and Nizar Hassan discuss the latest in Mieh Mieh, Trump's signing of HIFPA II, a new law for the Constitutional Council, Aoun and Hariri hitting the lost confidence stage in cabinet formation, and Hariri's recent visit to Saudi in light of new information about his treatment there last year. We then dive in deep into al-Ahed al-Jadeed, and the promise of a new era with Aoun and Hariri leading the way. We look at the political context, the seeming successes of 2017 until Hariri's resignation. We also lay out the evidence that Hariri was held against his will and forced to resign by the Saudis, and what they had hoped to achieve. And with the current political deadlock, we question whether or not this new era was simply putting the train back on a track to nowhere. Was macht sie sonst in ihrem Leben? Außerdem erzählt Ahed, warum sie die Zweistaatenlösung ablehnt. Das und einiges mehr in Folge 383 - wir haben sie am 3. September 2018 in Ramallah aufgenommen. Die deutsche Stimme ist Thinley Wingen. Period: 1950s, 1960s to the present day.Mary Quant: “I created clothes that worked and moved and allowed people to run, to jump, to leap, to retain their precious freedom."Gina tells us how the moment she was waiting to watch her favourite band at a festival became a life-changing incident, when some men began to harass her and photograph her underwear up her skirt. She explains how the scuffle escalated into a scene, the police became involved but the case was ultimately closed.Gina explains how she felt let down by the authorities when she discovered that the law was not on her side. When she shared a picture of the perpetrators on Facebook she was accused of harassment. She used her anger to drive her campaign for change.Gina talks about the media circus, finding herself pitted against caricatures on TV, and tackling online abuse and victim-blaming. She had to become an early bird to juggle a full-time job in advertising with her campaign work and discovered just how resilient she could be.She explains how a community of supporters have grown out of her work, and the moment she realised she had the power and drive to change the law as an individual. As an average 9-5er a bit of hard work and research has made her realise how we all have the power to participate in law - our democracy isn’t a matter purely for politicians. Two Palestinians were killed by Israeli live gunfire on Friday during protests along the Gaza border. What's going on in the region? Miko Peled provides updates to this latest reports of those shot and discusses his recent article "Ahed Tamimi Comes Home to Great Joy but Also Reminders of Pain." Some eight months after Ahed's imprisonment, the Israeli authorities are unhappy with the status that the prisoners and the Tamimi family achieved as symbols of the Palestinian resistance. What is the government doing? An NAACP poll released on August 7 found that Trump's approval rating among black Americans was at 21 percent. And a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in June found Trump's approval rating among blacks at 14 percent. According to a Rasmussen poll, an astounding one in three blacks say they approve of his performance. Now, Rasmussen is a GOP- and Trump-leaning poll that always manages to show him doing better than just about any other survey in his approval ratings. However, even if the staggering figure of black support is wrong as sin, other polls including the NAACP survey all show that Trump is doing a lot better than many might think among blacks. The brutal reality is that, as a relative of mine did, thousands of blacks voted for Trump. He touched a tiny nerve with his shouts that poor, underserved black neighborhoods are supposedly messes with lousy public schools, high crime and violence and chronic joblessness and poverty. How will this play out in the midterms? Also, it's Friday: Time to bring in the panel and discuss this week's hottest stories!GUESTS:Miko Peled - Israeli-American activist and author of The General's Son: Journey of an Israeli in Palestine.Caleb Maupin - Journalist and political analyst who focuses his coverage on US foreign policy and the global system of monopoly capitalism and imperialism. On this episode of The Critical Hour with Dr. Wilmer Leon, an interesting piece in the NY Times argues that the Obama Administration paved the way for Trump's embrace of dictators. We'll examine if the backing of various "oppressive" foreign leaders and failing to support people struggling for democratic change has been the real motivation behind American mid-east policy. In our last segment of The Critical Hour, 19 year old Ahed Tamimi was convicted of slapping a soldier and is now free after serving an eight-month prison sentence. She received a hero's welcome upon returning home and declares, "The resistance is continuing until the end of the occupation." Ahed had just watched soldiers shoot her cousin in the face when she slapped the soldier. That action is prompting others to call for justice. Psychiatrist and writer Franz Fanon says, "in cultures where women take up arms, especially patriarchal cultures, that's an enemy that can't be defeated."Have Israeli's bitten off more than they can chew on this one?GUESTS: Caleb Maupin - Journalist and political analyst who focuses his coverage on US foreign policy and the global system of monopoly capitalism and imperialism. “If every time a child does something we detain them, we destroy their future, we make them basically dreamless young men. This is how Palestinian children who go through the system become.” — Yazan Meqbil On December 19, 2017 Palestinian teenager Ahed Tamimi was arrested after slapping an Israeli soldier on her family's property. She was taken from her home in the middle of the night, interrogated without an adult present, and eventually signed a plea deal and was sentenced to eight months in prison. Ahed Tamimi became a symbol of Palestinian resistance, but she is only one out of hundreds of Palestinian children who face Israel's military court system every year. In this episode of Unsettled, we wanted to find out — On what grounds are children arrested? What actually happens to a child once they’ve been arrested? How does child detention impact both individuals and communities in the West Bank? We spoke to Ahed's father Bassem Tamimi, Palestinian student and activist Yazan Meqbil, and attorney Brad Parker of Defense for Children International-Palestine.  This episode of Unsettled was produced and edited by Emily Bell and Asaf Calderon. Music by Nat Rosenzweig and Monplaisir. Bassem Tamimi is a Palestinian activist from the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh. On today's episode of Loud & Clear, Brian Becker and John Kiriakou are joined by Jim Kavanagh, the editor of thepolemicist.net whose most recent piece is “Sacrificing Gaza: The Great March of Zionist Hypocrisy;” Ariel Gold, a peace activist and the national co-director of Code Pink; and longtime peace activist and member of Code Pink, Tighe Barry. Argentina yesterday canceled a pre-World Cup soccer match with Israel that was scheduled to take place in Jerusalem, after worldwide outcry from the BDS movement and a Palestinian Authority spokesman called for Palestinians to burn Argentine soccer jerseys. Meanwhile, Israeli authorities have denied parole for Palestinian teenager Ahed Tamimi, who is serving eight months in jail for slapping an Israeli soldier. Her cousin Ezzadine Tamimi was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers yesterday. On the regular Thursday series “Criminal Injustice,” about the most egregious conduct of our courts and prosecutors and how justice is denied to so many people in this country, the hosts discuss a prison journalist, Kevin “Rahid” Johnson, who has been punished for talking to the press and Trump’s pardon of Alice Marie Johnson. Paul Wright, the founder and executive director of the Human Rights Defense Center and editor of Prison Legal News and Criminal Legal News, and Kevin Gosztola, a writer for Shadowproof.com and co-host of the podcast Unauthorized Disclosure. Former President Bill Clinton said yesterday that his wife Hillary lost her presidential bid only because the Russian government preferred Green Party candidate Jill Stein. Clinton claimed, disingenuously, that without Stein, Hillary would have won the states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, and with them, the presidency. Brian and John speak with Ajamu Baraka, the National Organizer, Black Alliance for Peace, a longtime human rights activist, organizer, and political activist, and the 2016 Green Party nominee for Vice President of the United States. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani today announced an unconditional week-long ceasefire with the Taliban to mark the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. This is the first time that a ceasefire has been called without preconditions. Ghani specified, however, that it does not apply to other groups, including ISIS. Kathy Kelly, co-coordinator of Voices for Creative Non-Violence, who just got back from Afghanistan, joins the show. Democrats are taking a very hard line on the North Korea summit, requiring “complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear program” in order to remove the crippling US economic sanctions. Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is visiting the White House today for meetings with President Trump. Abe reportedly is expressing his concerns over North Korea in advance of next week’s summit there. Patrick Lawrence, the author of “Time No Longer: Americans After the American Century” and a columnist at The Nation whose work you can support at www.patreon.com/thefloutist, joins Brian and John. The White House’s top economic advisor said today that President Trump is not backing down from his hard line on trade, setting the stage for a showdown with top allies at the G7 summit in Canada this week. The meetings on Friday and Saturday will be the first time that allied leaders have had to confront Trump in person since he instituted steep tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico, and the European Union. Sputnik News analyst and producer Walter Smolarek, who is in Quebec City, joins the show.Russian President Vladimir Putin is visiting Austria today as part of a policy to improve relations with the European Union. He’s also working to improve economic and trade relations with Europe in the aftermath of tariffs imposed on steel and aluminum by President Trump. Brian and John speak with legendary anti-war activist and former British parliamentarian George Galloway.

Emergency departments are at the forefront of dealing with the harmful effects of alcohol consumption. ED alcohol-related presentation data is not routinely collected in patient data sets. I will describe the outcomes of the ACEM Alcohol Harm (AHED) project. For the first on a national scale the project quantified the level and effect of alcohol harm presenting to emergency departments (EDs) in Australia and New Zealand. Over 100 EDs and more than 2000 ED clinicians have been involved. AHED provided an evidence base to advocate for measures to reduce alcohol harm I will demonstrate by how using evidence and anecdote clinicians are power witnesses and can influence culture and policy change.

After her cousin was shot in the head by an Israele soldier, Palestinian Ahed Tamimi made the "slap heard around the world" upon a heavily armed IDF soldier. She was arrested in a night raid, as is the usual IDF modus operandi. This 2 minuted video, "The Interegation of Ahed Tamimi, 26 December, 2017 at Shaar Binyaminpolice station" needs to be seen and passed on to educate others about the brutal Israeli practices used against Palestinian youth. Two other documentaries highlight the ongoing brutality of the Israeli occupation: "Israel's Inhumane Treatment of Palestinian Children" and "Major Media Espose of Israeli Attacks on Palestinian Children." Also, a 5 minute report by CNN on3/18/2018 gives some background to Ahed's story: "Palestinian teen jailed for slapping soldier."

Roqayah is out for the week, but returning guest-co-host Nora Barrows-Friedman fills her shoes and joins Kumars for a conversation with Ali Abunimah, co-founder and editor of The Electronic Intifada. Ali is also the author of The Battle for Justice in Palestine and One Country: A Bold Proposal to End the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse. We discuss several developments in Israel/Palestine since we last spoke to Ali, both on-the-ground and diplomatically around the world, and to what extent these changes are attributable to Trump. Ali shares the story of the Tamimi family, resisting the seizure of land in their village of Nabi Saleh for Israeli settlement construction. Multiple members of the Tamimi family have been killed in recent years as a result of their participation in weekly protests against the settlements. Not long after the near-death of 15-year-old Muhammad Fadel Tamimi, shot in the head with a "rubber" bullet, Ahed Tamimi, his 16-year-old cousin, lightly slapped one of two heavily armed Israeli soldiers as she attempted to remove them from her family's property. Video of the event went viral. Not long after, Ahed was arrested by the Israeli military where she now faces years in prison, and her family members have been targeted for arrest and abuse ever since. Ali talks about how Trump's Israel/Palestine policy agenda is largely in line with the increasing permissiveness for abuse and subjugation of Palestinians that has continued unaltered under Republican and Democratic presidents for decades. Ali posits that the salient difference between Obama and Trump is that Trump is "taking the mask off", dropping all pretense and revealing the ugly reality of Israeli apartheid and settler colonialism. We also talk about shifting public opinion on the question of justice for all Palestinians, particularly among young people, and why recent high-profile BDS victories have pro-Israel advocacy groups running scared, aligning more and more with far-right-wing governments and organizations.
