On this episode of the Fit is Freedom Podcast, I am elated to be joined by Allison Jackson, author, podcaster, and health/wellness guru extraordinaire, who is going to walk us through how to handle health and wellness while struggling. She's also going to leave us with her three big tips for wellness that are simple and easily-implementable! Have you ever wondered what happens to your health and fitness goals when your life is derailed? Typically, we set these aspirational goals when things are going well. We are able to plan and prioritize health and fitness when the waters are calm. But, the moment a storm arises, it can be easier for some to simply jump ship and forget about everything altogether. This doesn't have to be the case! As a matter of fact, it may even be better for you to continue focusing on your health when life gets hard. Get The fitness consistency book that will change your life! All About Allison Jackson Allison Jackson is the founder of Allison Jackson Fitness and focuses on helping high performing women prioritize their health, nutrition, movement, and mindfulness. She is an author, the host of the Fit to Lean Podcast, a personal trainer, certified nutrition coach, yoga instructor, pro masters figure competitor, and certified in sound healing! Needless to say, she has a great deal of experience in a variety of health and wellness avenues! Important Links Allison Jackson Website Allison Jackson on Facebook Allison Jackson on Instagram Allison Jackson Podcast Why Woo-Woo Works Health and Wellness While Struggling Allison shares how her family went through an especially challenging few months in which her husband was hospitalized multiple times, she lost her job, and she lost a close friend. In life, it's inevitable that these moments arise where we feel we are at the bottom of the metaphorical barrel. Here are some of her takeaways from that challenging time… Find the Helpers and Blessings Instead of focusing on the bad that is going on, spend time looking for the helpers and blessings that will inevitably arise. No matter the storm, there are going to be people in your life who will step up, offer help and encouragement, and try their best to support you. The more you are looking for instances of positivity, the more you will see it coming your way. Find What You Need For some, they cope through mindfulness and journaling. For others, they need to shut themselves in their car and cry or scream. No matter what, it's important to find a healthy outlet during your times of struggle. Find some other ways to release and get out of your head. Listen to Your Body If you are a high performing woman going through a challenging period, it's important to listen to your body both with fitness and with eating. Maybe you typically wake up five days a week to workout, but you're not sleeping due to anxiety or stress. Instead of pushing yourself past your limits, try adjusting and giving yourself grace. Instead of a big workout, you could simply wake up and walk or do some yoga. Keep your body moving, but also listen to what it is saying it needs. Similarly, listen to your hunger cues. Whether you are going through a hard time or not, Allison shares the importance of intuitive eating and not restricting anything from your diet. Try making adjustments through nutritional commitments. Some commitments could include: eating protein with every meal, eating 2 fruits a day, incorporating one veggie with each meal, and more. Find a commitment that works for you to make sure you are taking care of yourself. Allison's 3 Big Tips for Wellness Train Your Brain You wouldn't leave the house naked, would you? Then, why would we wake with a start, diving into productivity before allowing our brain to get ready for the day? It's so important for our health and wellness to take a few minutes in the mornings to meditate, reflect, journal, or do something that allows our brain to settle in and prepare for the day ahead. Get Outside and Move Vitamin D and movement are so important to our overall health, no matter what is going on in your life. Try and find some time everyday to be outside and move your body. Prioritize Protein As we age, protein becomes more and more important for our health and wellness. Aim to get a minimum of 30-40 grams of protein per meal. Bonus points go to those of you who can do this without distraction! Challenge yourself to eat your meals without any kind of screen or distraction, and you'll be able to eat more intuitively! Fitness is her passion. When she was in her teens, She used to read her Dad's Muscle & Fitness magazines and attempt to lift weights and work out in their unfinished basement with a weight bench and some dumbbells. Her mom would take her to Jazzercise classes with her. She struggled with her weight, but it was during those early years that she caught the fitness bug. Before she was a fitness competitor, she played field hockey all through high school and college. While in college, she became a certified aerobics instructor (back when they called it “aerobics” and leotards and leg warmers were all the rage). She also received her personal trainer certification. She taught everything from step aerobics to kickboxing (who remembers Billy Blanks' Tae Bo style?). Then she started running…she ran 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, some sprint triathlons, two marathons (NYC and Philly), a Warrior Dash and a Tough Mudder. But she wanted more. In the late 90's she discovered fitness competitions (think bodybuilding meets beauty pageant), which involved a fitness routine and posing routine. She took gymnastics lessons as a 25-year-old with a class full of 9-year-old's. It was not her cup of tea. Fast forward to 2012 when she discovered a trainer who was also an IFBB figure pro who was willing to prep her for her first figure competition. Most organizations had eliminated the fitness routine portion and she was ready to finally tackle this challenge. She competed in her first competition in 2012 and continued to compete until this past year when she obtained her pro card — four years in the making! What she loves more than anything is when people say they're inspired by what she has done or motivated to try working out.

Website:https://allison-jackson.mykajabi.com/We have all met people or seen photos online of beautiful, perfectly fit people and wished we could look like them. Many of us will try crazy diets or extreme fitness routines to get that certain look without taking into consideration the effects that can have on our health. Allison Jackson is one of those healthy, fit, beautiful women that people want to look like. She works full time in the corporate world as a communications professional but has always had a passion for fitness and health. She is a Precision Nutrition Coach, and is certified as a personal trainer, a macro nutrition coach and a Yoga instructor. In her spare time, she competes professionally as a body builder in figure competitions where she is judged on muscular symmetry and definition. So many people asked her how she handled being a mom with a full-time job and getting her body in shape and stage ready that starting a business about it seemed like the next step. She founded Allison Jackson Fitness to help moms in the corporate world improve their health and achieve balance between life and fitness. Today I talked with Allison about how she “helps people realize their fitness goals — whether it's eating healthy, getting started with an exercise routine, attempting a 5K or trying their hand at competing”. By using a coach like Allison, you get her expertise in creating sensible fitness/food programs as well as her accountability tools to help you improve your health and achieve balance between life and fitness. Top 3 takeaways to prioritize your health and fitness1. Start tracking your food with an app like Fitness Pal to get a full picture how much and what you are eating.2. Track your movement. Getting in a workout is important but so is regular movement throughout the day.3. Self-awareness with mindfulness and meditation. Use guided meditation or just enjoy silence. Many people usually take this time to work on their fitness goals. Allison has been passionate about nutrition and fitness her whole life having struggled with her weight in her youth. She would cover up with a T-shirt to swim because she didn't want to expose her body. This also caused major self-confidence problems. Once she got a handle on sound nutrition, she ended up competing in a figure/bodybuilding competition and discovered she loved it. Why? You ask. The result of preparing and performing on stage resulted in an exponential boost in her self-confidence. The “new” mind spilled over in all aspects of her life. Now she loves helping working moms learn what she learned. How to juggle all the things that go on in a working mom's life, and still reach your goal weight and maintain it. She has a book on Amazon: Flab to Fab in Eight Weeks – The busy mom's guide to getting lean and healthy. About Allison Jackson: Allison Jackson is the founder of Allison Jackson Fitness. She loves all things health and fitness, but what she really loves is sharing her knowledge and expertise to help hard-working moms reach their goals so they can be at their best. In this episode, Adam and Allison Jackson discuss:Mindfulness and Visualization A mindful approach to eatingMaking changes that impact your health Key Takeaways:Don't space out - be aware of what you're doing, be present and mindful. At the same time, create a picture in your mind that shows where you want to be in your fitness, in your career, and in self-development. Being mindful with eating is applied in two ways: one is to fully focus when eating, to eat without any distractions and really feel the taste, smell, and texture of the food. The second way is to be conscious about what you're putting in your plate and what you're drinking. If you're looking to make changes, make small changes and track them. Shoot for 7,000 to 10,000 steps. Implement a meditating practice in your life - start with 2 minutes a day. "Focus on what you're eating, it's super hard… but really tasting the food, smelling them, the texture - it's gonna help your brain register when you are truly full and it's gonna help you have a more enjoyable eating experience." — Allison JacksonConnect with Allison Jackson: Twitter: https://twitter.com/allisonjacksonfitnessFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/allisonjacksonfitness/Website: https://www.allisonjacksonfitness.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/allisonjacksonfitness/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/allisonjacksonfitnessPinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/allisonjacksonfitness Connect With Adam Weber:Website: https://meditationnotmedicine.com/about/Email: adam@meditationnotmedicine.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/easytomeditate Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/meditationnotmedicine/ Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPnbji9rDrCfxhY0W8sHL9ABook: Meditation Not Medicine Show notes by Podcastologist: Justine Talla.Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. Allison Jackson Fitness originally started out as FitMomsofNJ.com in 2010 when she began to realize how many of her mom-friends were either struggling to lose weight, looking for ways to incorporate exercise into their busy lives or trying to figure out how to prioritize their health while caring for their family. Fitness is absolutely her passion. When she was in her teens, she used to read her Dad's Muscle & Fitness magazines and attempt to lift weights and work out in their unfinished basement with a weight bench and some dumbbells. Her mom took Allison to Jazzercise classes with her. She struggled with her weight, but it was during those early years that she caught the fitness bug. Allison competes annually in Re: starting your own business: "Trust in yourself and rip off the band aid. You'll be surprised just how successful you can be" Some of my personal highlights from this conversation: Allison felt like the business was real when locals started saying to her "I know you, you're Allison Jackson Fitness - I've been watching your videos" She talks about how important it is to find the right business coach. "The right business coach is going to fast track you and get you through the rough points" She says "No matter what your goal there is a coach who can help you – go find them" Allison explains how she went from her early days where she gave sessions to family "for free" to charging what she is worth – she has 3 different ways she reached a dollar amount: bartering was an early method she looked at what her coaches were charging and what value are they giving me and started from there - and says "As I built out my clients and my schedule gets more full – up with my prices" AND Evaluate your time, your hours. How much time are you spending coaching a person and the things you have to do – and put a dollar price on your hours. What's your happy weight? In this episode, I had the opportunity to talk with Allison Jackson (owner of Allison Jackson Fitness) about finding physical health according to your own comfort level and wellness needs. What if we could redefine what it means to be physically healthy? It doesn't have to refer only to the number on the scale. As Allison expertly puts it "Wellness and health is a 3-legged stool: mind, body, spirit. You could be eating healthy food, you could be working out, but if you're feeding your mind garbage, if you're not in a good place mentally, if you're mindset isn't there, that's not 'healthy'." She is passionate about all things health and fitness, but she really loves sharing her knowledge and expertise to help busy women get lean eating foods they love so they can be at their best. Victims of sexual abuse are unfortunately getting younger, as are their perpetrators. Despite the depiction of adolescents as “young adults” in our media, we must remember that they are not. They are children. A 17-year-old assault victim is a child who has been assaulted. The distinction between adults and children is critical. We must remember that the human brain is not fully developed until the early 20s. Although we often use the rhetoric that children are “resilient”, this is not borne out when children are abused. We know that victims who don’t receive the proper treatment are more likely to suffer future abuse and lose their “life momentum”. It is critical, therefore, that we seek out medical treatment when childhood abuse is suspected. I had the privilege of talking with Dr. Allison Jackson who serves as the division chief of the Child and Adolescent Protection Center of the Children's National Medical Center. She's also an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the George Washington University. For over 19 years Dr. Jackson has been evaluating and treating children victimized by all forms of child maltreatment. In addition to her medical responsibilities, she provides physician leadership to the District of Columbia's multidisciplinary team on child abuse.

On the first episode of the podcast, we talk with Allison Jackson of Allison Jackson Fitness. Allison is a full-time Corporate Communications Consultant with two teenage children. Growing up, fitness was always a passion and a big part of her life—she played field hockey in high school and college, and even considered a career revolving around fitness. Like many of us, Allison ended up in a career that had nothing to do with her passion. She ended up in Corporate Communications and has been working full-time in this field for the past 11 years. About seven years ago, she decided to cross off an item from her bucket list by entering a figure competition. Allison describes a figure competition as “bodybuilding meets beauty pageant”. Since that time, she’s won several competitions, earned her “Pro” card, and will make her pro debut sometime this year! Her start in the Fitness and Nutrition Coaching arena started about three years ago when someone told her that she should coach others as a business. That was, as she described it, her “light bulb moment”. Once she decided to “just do it now” (instead of waiting five years for her kids to go to college), she bartered with a co-worker to get her social media up and website up and running and started coaching people for free. Once she developed her system, she started taking individual coaching clients. In her first year, she got 1-2 clients. In her second year, she was able to increase her clientele to 12-15 clients. Then, she made a decision to stop “spinning her wheels” and go “all in” with her social media strategy. Since then, she started an 8-week group coaching program called “Blast the Fat” and enrolled 8 clients in her first round! Want to take a peek at what Allison’s typical day looks like? Austin, Texas' very own Ernest Cline has given us a sweeping sci-fi/fantasy epic made for every kid from the 80's who LOVES nostalgia (and video games, and movies, and books, and style AND DRAMA). "Ready Player One" was one of Morgan's favorite reads of last year (though it came out several years ago), and is definitely for most any Sci-Fi/Fantasy Lover! It hits all of *our* buttons, so we're a little biased here, but WE LOVE IT. And, to commemorate our love for the book, we have brought another superfan onboard (Allison Jackson!) to talk about all the great things and speculate about how horrible we think the movie will be (spoiler: we're not too sure about it). Dive into our shade (THROWN AT STEVEN SPIELBERG?!), our predictions, our desires anddddddd so much more! Come share in the love BB's, it's good for the soul
