The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2024/02/binary-system-podcast-399-wtnv-242-the-new-branch-and-the-oscar-nominated-animated-shorts/ On the latest episode of Night Vale the Librarians broke out of their cages but some heroes saved the day andnoweverythingisfineTheEnd SO! HOW ABOUT THOSE OSCAR ANIMATED SHORTS? (Kidding, it was a fun episode of Night Vale, we're just really excited to talk about cartoons.) Anyway, massive spoiler warnings as we discuss our favorite Oscar-nominated animated shorts, which were as surprising as they were upsetting, just how we like them. (This episode of VagueCast is brought to you by the 2024 Oscar Animated Shorts Collection: yiiiiikes.) And before we wrap up, we also have to go over the latest Hugo-Award-Clusterf*ck news, which was outdated even before we finished recording because it KEEPS GETTING WORSE. This week's outro is a clip from Illusion by Darkfluxx. Correction: we said passenger pigeon several times, when we meant carrier pigeon. Homing pigeon would've been even better. Correction 2: War Is Over isn't a Beatles song, John Lennon released it outside of the band. Elizabeth apologizes to all the John Lennon fans out there. For that and for saying the cartoon would've been better if the song wasn't in it. In case you're curious, here's the list of all the Oscar Winning Animated Shorts. Turns out yes, some years the winner wasn't particularly family-friendly (2021's "The Windshield Wiper" has a lot of sexy content) but 2015's "Bear Story" beat "World of Tomorrow", and 2016's "Piper" beat "Pear Cider and Cigarettes" and that's when Elizabeth decided family-friendly beats edgy-and-cool most years. As of today the Oscar-nominated animated feature Nimona is still up for free on YouTube! Here's a good write-up of the Hugo Awards debacle. (Short version: the board self-censored anything they thought MIGHT upset the Chinese government, and were as stupid about it as you can possibly imagine.) (And the post doesn't mention the fact that the board did business with a Chinese company that's been sanctioned by the US Government, but we're still waiting to hear how all that turns out.) This one is really special gang! Ever since Star Wars: Visions Vol. 1 we had been thinking about the potential of this series tackling Star Wars from other cultural perspectives, especially ones from Latin America. With the announcement of Vol. 2, we were so excited to see this potential fulfilled! As we've mentioned before, Vol. 2 was a rousing success for us and in particular on of the episodes: In The Stars! This short, done by Punkrobot Studio (a studio from Chile), talked about all the themes we as a podcast have been advocating for and waiting to see in these Star Wars stories. Today we are so incredibly privileged to present our interview with Oscar winning director of Bear Story, Gabriel Osorio! This was an extremely meaningful chat and Gabriel was very incredible, sharing very good insight about his episode. We truly hope you enjoy this interview! Last night's Oscars had something for everyone. It had hilarious highs and cringey lows. There were noteworthy performances from two of our favorite divas, and an appearance by a Cocaine Bear looking to score. On the acting front, it was a huge night for Brendan Fraser and for almost everyone associated with “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” including Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, who made Oscars history. And perhaps most importantly, nobody got slapped!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

“Unquestionably the discovery of the Mississippi is a datable fact which considerably mellows and modifies the shiny newness of our country, and gives her a most respectable outside-aspect of rustiness and antiquity.” -- Mark Twain, Life on the Mississippi For the new country of the United States, the river that bisected it was old. This mighty river shaped the destiny of the towns and cities along its many miles of shoreline. Chicago was just a backwater to St. Louis, Missouri and Galena, Illinois before the railroads began to dominate transportation and Chicago's rapid rise to prominence. Our esteemed guest Paul Meincke took full measure of this river on an epic 70-day journey and joins the Windy City Historians in a special episode of our “Canoe Chronicles” to share some history and present reality of the "Mighty" Mississippi. In 2017, Paul, with friends Bill Baar, Tim Clark, and Tom Lobacz, started this adventure at the river's headwaters in Minnesota and canoed some 2,320 miles to Gulf of Mexico. Captured in the documentary ”Mississippi by Canoe” on YouTube, Paul will tells of the trip's challenges, triumphs, and insights and offers some behind the scenes in the making of the documentary. We hope you will enjoy this lively tale of paddling, politics, and history sprinkled with legends, mosquitoes, alligators, and how life is better when experienced by canoe, even 950,000 paddle strokes later. Paul Meincke is "mostly" retired after 30-years of general assignment reporting for ABC7 Eyewitness News in Chicago, and ironically Paul's celebrated 45-year broadcast career began on the banks of the Mississippi River in his hometown, Rock Island, Illinois. It was a real pleasure to met and talk with him. This one was too good to not share with you all. Zach's brave and awkward encounter with a bear. Funny stuff. No big message, just straight up ridiculous...may have been the Basil Hayden's whiskey contributing any apparent embellishments. Enjoy! Dylan is missing, but Cliff and Adam carry on...somehow. We talked VGA winners, a new Doom expansion, Fallout 76 woes, swords causing issues in Fortnite, the beginnings of the Launcher wars and Epic vs. Steam: Part 1.Also, there are so many games coming to Game Pass. It's honestly kinda crazy. The Epic store is also giving away games. Do we even need to buy games any more?

This is a backwash of the Eureka Springs trip – still in that amazing energy – and several things “clicked” in the week after the trip. One, I found a really cool drag-and-drop website builder for WordPress, so I've been able to really take-off with web design in a way I've not been able to ever!Answer to intention/prayer #1.Then, on a long walk dealing with some pent-up business that just needed some time in the woods to work through, I asked for a sign…specifically that a bear cross my path on this hike. You'll have to listen to hear answer #2!The verse I mention in the podcast is Proverbs 3:5-6 from the Old Testament. Here it is again, with my notes:Trust in the All-Knowing, All-Powerful, Present-Everywere, All-Loving Infinite Energy that created the worlds we see and can't see says to “trust in me with all your heart.” i.e. – the very essence of your life/being. TRUST! And do not lean on your own understanding (the conscious mind and it's 70,000 thoughts per day. Don't rely on it! “In all your ways…” i.e. – everything you do. EVERYTHING. “Acknowledge this amazing, powerful energy, and it will direct your paths.”When we do, you will be guided right along the path that YOU are supposed to live….and on that path you really can…Enjoy The Journey!ThomasThe post Podcast 123 – an “Intentional” Bear Story! appeared first on Subconscious Mind Mastery. Yeah, it happened again. Adam discussed polar bears, and drive-by's. Rob and Adam are serenaded with some old school, Esham (shout out to Jake Omen) and you also must tune in to hear if your sour cream contains the dreaded Zika virus, and the surprising cure.In beer related podcasting, we discuss Two Deep Brewing's Brickhouse Roasted Amber Ale. Is it really as "Might-ay Might-ay" as advertised? As you'd come to expect, we then transition smoothly in to a beer from Harpoon Brewery out of Boston. And when we say, "beer" when mean, "shandy." And when we say, "shandy" Rob dies a little bit on the inside. Is this the one to change his mind?
Jimmy and Elann talk field trips! Plus, Elann conducts a one-on-one interview with Edward Joe Steel, one of the visionaries behind the multimedia collective Bear Story and the creator of a play called "Lost and Rewound." Yup.

Chris and Mackenzie talk about the 88th Oscars! Not the Animated feature category, though. Their focus? The category everyone should care about more: Animated Shorts. The nominees: World of Tomorrow, Sanjay's Super Team, We Can't Live Without Cosmos, Bear Story, and Prologue. This year's group of nominees only includes two films animated with computer graphics. Is this a return to traditional animation? How much dialogue do you need for a short film? Can anyone ever beat Pixar?
