After moving to Southern California in the 1990s he quickly established himself as a leading figure behind the lens, becoming a staff photographer for Transworld Skateboarding and later a founding contributor to The Skateboard Mag. His work has appeared in nearly every major skate publication worldwide and today he works closely with Thrasher Magazine. Outside of skateboarding, Jefferson has built an expansive career across music, fashion, and commercial photography; having shot portraits of cultural icons such as LeBron James, Mos Def, and Tony Hawk. He has recently dropped the “United Through Skatebording” Collection with Vans. The collection includes a Skate Half Cab® with WaffleCup™ Outsole & a Skate Old Skool™ 36+ featuring custom imagery of skate legend John Cardiel alongside artwork by Haze. The collection celebrates Atiba's journey throughout an extensive career, and the skate culture that deeply influenced his work.
Colorado Springs inventory just hit 4-month supply levels while Denver experienced a dramatic 7% drop in active listings during August 2025. These contrasting trends create distinct opportunities for investors as mortgage rates decline toward 6% and builders offer unprecedented concessions.
In a small town between Denver and Colorado Springs, a lesson in civics and civility. What's going on in Palmer Lake is about more than a proposed Buc-ee's travel plaza. Purplish explores the debate. Then, CPR's Stina Sieg joins us from Italy where descendants from Colorado are retracing the steps of loved ones who fought with the 10th Mountain Division during World War II. Later, does music soothe animals' souls?

Send us a textWhat does it take to conquer one of America's most grueling mountain races? Elite trail runner James Reeves takes us behind the scenes of his preparation for Pike's Peak, a race that draws over 2,500 runners annually from 46 states and eight countries to challenge themselves against the formidable Colorado mountain."It's just you're constantly wondering if you're going too hard and if you're going to die," Reeves explains about the race experience. "It's an ultimate mental battle." Having previously posted an impressive 2:14:55 at Pike's Peak in 2023, Reeves now returns with ambitious goals after relocating to Colorado's Gunnison Valley for optimal mountain training. The conversation offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of a dedicated mountain athlete. Reeves shares how his recent move from Colorado Springs to the more rural Gunnison provides superior access to high-altitude training in both the Elk Mountains and San Juan ranges. This strategic relocation allows him to "drive to altitude" rather than relying on altitude tents, creating ideal conditions for Pike's Peak preparation.Fresh off a top-five finish at the Cirque Series A-Basin race among 700 competitors, Reeves demonstrates his current fitness level despite being in the middle of a rigorous training block. His approach balances competitive drive with strategic racing: "If I had to choose running a PR or running for first place, I would choose to run for first place." This mentality reveals the tactical thinking required for mountain racing success.Beyond Pike's Peak, Reeves details his plans for the Kodiak 50K (a UTMB World Series Major) and the USATF Half Marathon Championships in Moab. His insights into the mental aspects of endurance racing, training at altitude, and finding motivation through challenges provide valuable perspective for athletes of all levels.Join us for this compelling conversation and discover why these mountain challenges continue to draw athletes back year after year. Send us a textPike's Peak isn't just a mountain—it's America's Ultimate Challenge. Rising dramatically from 6,000 to 14,000 feet, this Colorado landmark draws over 2,500 runners annually from across the globe, all seeking to test their limits against its unforgiving terrain. What makes this race truly special? As elite mountain runner Kiern Nay explains, "It's just you're constantly wondering if you're going too hard and if you're going to die." Unlike strategic ultra events where pacing and problem-solving matter, Pike's Peak demands maximum effort from start to finish—a "total red line from the gun to the top." Pull back even slightly, and the mountain makes you pay.For Kieran, who grew up in Colorado Springs with Pike's Peak as his constant backdrop, the mountain represents both personal history and professional benchmark. After finishing an impressive fifth place in his first competitive trail race there at age 20, he returns year after year, drawn by the mountain's brutal honesty and the race's rich tradition. "You know this is a test against yourself," he reflects, highlighting why this race transcends competition to become something more profound. The podcast explores Kieran's evolution as an athlete, from focusing on shorter mountain races to embracing longer challenges like the Grand Traverse and Speed Goat. We also dive into his upcoming adventure representing Team USA at the Continental Sky Running Championships in Mexico, where he'll race at elevations exceeding 15,000 feet. Throughout our conversation, Kieran shares insights into high-altitude training, race preparation, and building community among elite mountain runners in Colorado's Gunnison Valley.Whether you're a dedicated trail runner or simply fascinated by what drives athletes to push their limits, this episode offers a compelling glimpse into the mind of an elite mountain runner and the iconic race that continues to define his journey. Brews and Tiny Teeth, The Unfiltered Pediatric Dentistry Podcast
We are joined today by The Kindness Bro himself... Dr. Glenn Canares. Glenn is an academic pediatric dentist and the program director at the University of Maryland. Glenn shares his story of how he experienced bouts of panic attacks while in clinic, and he knew he needed to make some radical life changes. He talks about how he found success with weight training, giving himself grace, and expanding on what it means to be kind to yourself. We talk about how we all can strive to reach a "black belt level" state of nirvana in pediatric dentistry where we can disconnect ourselves from our outcomes, and focus on the aspects of pediatric dentistry that we love. Glenn was a fantastic guest and I encourage listeners to follow his social media as he has several speaking events and messages that help promote kindness and wellness in our profession. Follow and share - https://www.instagram.com/ultrauncoveredpodcast/In this episode of Ultra Uncovered, we go deep on one of the most iconic—and punishing—mountain races in the world: the Pikes Peak Marathon and Ascent. We're joined by Colorado Springs local and multi-time champion Kristina Mascarenas, whose deep love for this mountain (and her decent record) makes her the perfect co-host to help us break it all down. From the relentless W's to the infamous Golden Stairs, we dissect every section of the course and share practical advice for tackling the climb, prepping for high-altitude conditions, handling the mental grind, and navigating gear and etiquette on race day. Kristina also shares her unique journey into the sport—how a challenge from her brother pulled her off the couch and onto the mountain, and how she's rebounded from not one, but two major ankle injuries to keep chasing her best performances. We also dive into the history and legends of America's Mountain, from Matt Carpenter's still-unbreakable 1993 record to the rise of Remi Bonnet, Maude Mathys, and other international stars. Kristina gives us insider tips on how to race the decent (pro tip: don't step on anything that might roll), what to expect in terms of trail conditions and weather, and why emotional readiness is just as important as physical training. Whether you're gunning for a golden hour finish or just hoping to cross that line, this one's packed with insight, lore, and plenty of laughs—including a few “Uncle Rick” gems and a call for Jim Walmsley to please come race Pikes.

This message kicks off our new sermon series Practicing the Way at Trace Church in Colorado Springs. Pastor Aaron Pennington teaches on the power of God's Word and why it is the foundation for following Jesus.God's Word is not just something to read, it is living, active, and able to transform our lives. In this sermon, we look at how Scripture guides us, convicts us, and calls us to build our lives on truth that cannot be shaken.Too often we settle for distraction or compromise, but the Bible invites us to return to the basics: to open His Word daily, to hear His voice clearly, and to walk in the freedom that only Jesus provides.Key scriptures include Psalm 119, Matthew 7, 2 Timothy 3, and Hebrews 4. This teaching will encourage you to anchor your life in the Bible and take one more step in practicing the way of Jesus. If you're searching for sermons about God's Word, Bible teaching, or Colorado Springs church messages, this is the perfect place to start.

Jimmy Mellado leads Compassion International, a global, church-driven ministry serving children in poverty across 29 countries. Born in El Salvador (full name: Santiago “Jimmy” Mellado), he grew up across Latin America and Asia, ran decathlon at SMU, and later represented El Salvador in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. His life and leadership are anchored in faith, family, and a deep conviction that true impact starts with who we're becoming—then flows into what we do. In this episode, Brad sits down with Jimmy at Compassion's global ministry center in Colorado Springs for a candid conversation about identity, calling, technology, and the local church. Jimmy shares formative stories from his childhood and athletic journey, the moment he sensed a calling to serve the church after the Olympics, and the identity wake-up that led him to embrace his heritage. He talks about following Wess Stafford as CEO, why Compassion is first a church-equipping child discipleship organization (sponsorship is the funding mechanism, not the identity), and how the ministry is modernizing—moving to the cloud, piloting secure, real-time communication, and using AI to protect children online. Along the way, Jimmy offers grounded wisdom on leadership burdens, character, and doing God's work without sacrificing God's work in you. “Let's not do God's work in ways that hurt His work in us.” – Jimmy Mellado “His yoke is easy and His burden is light—so if it's heavy, who made it heavy?” – Jimmy Mellado “Special gifts can take a leader places where the absence of character won't let them stay.” – Jimmy Mellado This Week on The Wow Factor: Jimmy's upbringing: born in El Salvador, moving 40+ times as his engineer father built infrastructure across the developing world Early faith formation: parents as his “first pastors,” family as his first church while on the move Track to the Olympics: SMU scholarship and competing for El Salvador at the 1988 Seoul Olympics A calling in Seoul: witnessing church revival in South Korea and returning with a mission to serve the church Identity moment: embracing “Santiago” and his Latino heritage after being told “you don't count”—and how God used it to realign his calling Friendship with Wess Stafford and the path to leading Compassion What Compassion is: a church-equipping, child-discipleship ministry (sponsorship fuels the work but doesn't define it) The need right now: millions registered, hundreds of thousands awaiting sponsors—why the gap matters at the child level Modernizing at scale: retiring custom code, moving to cloud platforms, and building for quality, security, and growth Pilots in Peru and Ghana: secure, real-time communication among sponsors, children, and local church leaders Safety by design: using AI to flag inappropriate content and grooming language to protect kids A pastor's six-hour drive in Togo to make the plea: “Let me thank our sponsors and tell the story of impact.” Leadership and soul care: trading anxiety for gratitude, resisting the urge to carry what only God can carry Being vs. doing: why who you're becoming is the most important contribution you'll ever make Jimmy Mellado's Word of Wisdom: Become first, then do. Stay rooted in Christ, invite trusted voices to speak truth, and steward your assignment without making it heavy. The most enduring impact isn't what you accomplish—it's the person you're becoming as you walk with God. Trace Church celebrated 9 years in Colorado Springs with an unforgettable Fall Kickoff service. Pastor Aaron preached a powerful message out of Luke 15, reminding us that the grace of God is always greater than our sin.In the story of the prodigal son, we see a young man run as far as he could from his father. He wasted everything, gave himself over to sin, and carried deep shame. Yet when he turned back home, the father ran to him, embraced him, and restored him as a son. This picture is a glimpse into the heart of God for us.Many of us carry strongholds, shame, and mistakes that feel too heavy to let go of. We believe the lie that we have gone too far or done too much for God to forgive. But this message reminds us of the truth: you cannot out-sin the grace of God. His mercy is new every morning, His arms are always open, and His love pursues us no matter how far we wander.Through Scripture in Luke 15, Romans 8, Ephesians 5, and James 5, we are challenged to step out of the shadows, break free from lies, and walk in the freedom that only Jesus provides. The call is clear: return to God, confess, repent, and receive the grace that has already been purchased for you at the cross. This was more than just an anniversary service. It was a moment of celebration, surrender, and breakthrough. God is moving at Trace Church, and He is calling each of us to turn around and come home.

Today's Headlines: Trump finally reappeared yesterday—45 minutes late to his big Oval Office presser—where he confirmed Space Force HQ is moving from Colorado Springs to Huntsville, Alabama (something we already knew thanks to a DoD slip-up). Asked about his mysterious five-day absence and rumors he'd died, Trump brushed it off, then pivoted to announce he's sending National Guard troops into Chicago, prompting Gov. JB Pritzker to accuse the feds of already staging units nearby. At the same time, Sec. of State Marco Rubio announced a U.S. strike on a Venezuela-linked drug boat in the Caribbean that killed 11, with Trump posting an explosion video on Truth Social as his version of “just say no.” Meanwhile, Trump's two-week “deadline” for peace in Ukraine passed without progress—Putin was too busy in China attending Xi Jinping's WWII anniversary parade with North Korea's Kim Jong Un and his daughter/successor Kim Ju Ae. Back in D.C., Congress returned from recess facing another looming shutdown and the Epstein files circus: six survivors testified on Capitol Hill as lawmakers released 30,000 pages of mostly redundant documents, while still pressing DOJ for the unredacted batch. Elsewhere, a federal judge ruled Google abused its search monopoly but stopped short of breaking up Chrome—news that sent its stock soaring. And Denmark just made history by becoming the first European country to grant citizens copyright control over their likeness, including AI-generated versions of themselves, with protections lasting 50 years after death. On today's show we are talking about what happens when there is an announcement about jobs moving. It seems like a zero sum game in which there are winners and losers. Yesterday's announcement from the White House had those characteristics. If you've been following this show for a while, you know that my development firm Y Street Capital, together with a few partners owns a large parcel of land consisting of 1783 acres in Colorado Springs. The project is a large master planned community located on the eastern edge of Colorado Springs. The development of the city is constrained by the mountains on the west side. It has developed North and South. Denver is about an hour to the North. The city has also developed East which is where our property is located. Our immediate neighbour is Schreiver Space Force Base. There are numerous assets in Colorado Springs.Colorado Springs is a major hub for U.S. military space and defense operations, and as a result, many of the assets located there are part of the newly formed U.S. Space Force, which was created from elements of the U.S. Air Force. The move was widely anticipated. Our sources said that the announcement would happen before the end of August. (We were off by two days.) Our sources tell us the move is anticipated to affect about 750-1000 jobs. Schriever Space Force Base is not being moved, nor are the ground bases in Alaska or elsewhere around the world. While the move is negative for Colorado Springs, we anticipate that the Golden Dome announcement from earlier this year will require growth in both Colorado Springs and Huntsville in order to be realized. Much of the growth that was announced for Huntsville is linked to the Golden Dome program, and not the wholesale relocation of Space Force from Colorado to Huntsville. Therefore, we do not foresee a long term negative impact.-----------**Real Estate Espresso Podcast:** Spotify: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](https://open.spotify.com/show/3GvtwRmTq4r3es8cbw8jW0?si=c75ea506a6694ef1) iTunes: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-real-estate-espresso-podcast/id1340482613) Website: [www.victorjm.com](http://www.victorjm.com) LinkedIn: [Victor Menasce](http://www.linkedin.com/in/vmenasce) YouTube: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](http://www.youtube.com/@victorjmenasce6734) Facebook: [www.facebook.com/realestateespresso](http://www.facebook.com/realestateespresso) Email: [podcast@victorjm.com](mailto:podcast@victorjm.com) **Y Street Capital:** Website: [www.ystreetcapital.com](http://www.ystreetcapital.com) Facebook: [www.facebook.com/YStreetCapital](https://www.facebook.com/YStreetCapital) Instagram: [@ystreetcapital](http://www.instagram.com/ystreetcapital)
