Our voices naturally change over time through age, hormones and all the different life experiences that we have. But what happens when your voice changes to the point where you have difficulty being heard in conversation or you sound timid or uncertain? How do you overcome that? When singer and voice coach, Emmanuela Grace, started coaching other people on how to make the most of their voices, she soon realised that some people needed more than voice coaching to be able to speak comfortably and confidently.  For example, why do some people struggle with small talk? Why do so many of us struggle with public speaking? Why do women often feel self conscious when they have to talk to a group of mainly male directors? And why do many women shy away from stating where their boundaries are? So off Emmanuela went to do a degree in psychology so she could answer these questions and fully support people. With a fascinating combination of psychology and voice coaching, Emmanuela talks us through the process of learning about ourselves so we can feel more comfortable and confident in all situations.  Key points: 6:34 - Why learning to speak up may involve more than just a voice coach 7:29 - Why small talk can feel so overwhelming and difficult   *** Emmanuela has done a special video for you on how to get your vocal chords ready before you go into an important conversation. Afryka i Francja zbyt długo stanowią małżeństwo.

#129 - Niemcy abdykowały i mamy nowego lidera Europy w osobie Emmanuela Macrona. Jak się spisze?

O świecie w Onecie

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 26, 2022 49:50

W ubiegłym tygodniu doszło do porozumienia w Unii w sprawie nowej, przełomowej regulacji dotyczącej wielkich platform społecznościowych.

In this episode, Miriam speaks to Emmanuela who she met at Mastercard Foundation. Emmanuela was born in Kenya but has been living in Canada since 2013. Emmanuela talks about her upbringing, mental health and the expectations of others so many of us carry throughout our lives. KEY TAKEAWAYS  Emmanuela grew up in northern Kenya, with a typical African upbringing including having a strong support system around her. She says she grew up socially and culturally rich but economically she was poor. So, although they didn’t have much she was happy. But, this was the driving force behind her wanting to see how big the world is and to study. After doing well in her studies, Emmanuela learnt about being able to apply and study abroad, so she decided to go for it and in 2013 she went to Toronto to study and is still there today. Emmanuela found herself suffering with imposter syndrome, which she struggled with for quite some time. It caused both overwhelm and depression and the only way she managed to get out of this was by seeking help, driven by the love for her family. Emmanuela went to therapy, including CBT and other talking therapies. In doing this she discovered that music was also a part of her healing and is something that still helps her now. In 2017, Emmanuela wrote and directed the documentary Invisible Despair, her aim was to highlight the struggles she knew other students would be going through and to find out what kind of support was needed to help them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fopk5UEo5Os (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fopk5UEo5Os)     BEST MOMENTS   “I grew up socially and culturally rice, but economically I was poor”   “There is such a price to pay when we are the first, in the family to leave your country, the first to go to university”   “I needed to bring all voices together so we could really find out where the breakdown in communication was and where do we need to invest in supporting our students”   “You put up a good fight then realize it’s time to let it go” VALUABLE RESOURCES Invisible Despair Documentary 2017, Written and directed by Emmanuela Alimlim https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fopk5UEo5Os (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fopk5UEo5Os)   ABOUT THE HOST Miriam is a Trauma Informed Coach, an African, a mom of three daughters, a blogger and writer.  After graduating from the London School of Economics, she built her international career in the fields of banking and international development, working for organisations such as the World Economic Forum, Lombard Odier Private Bank, JP Morgan, the Mastercard Foundation and the United Nations. She now uses her passion for psychology and dedicates her time to coaching others to free themselves from the burden of childhood trauma.  Her wish to help other women connect to their inner wisdom, love themselves and follow their passion. In her effort to destigmatize mental health and normalize mental health conversations in black communities, she wrote her memoir about surviving childhood and finding her worth.   CONTACT METHOD https://www.instagram.com/_miriamnjoku/ (Instagram: @_miriamnjoku/) https://m.facebook.com/Miriam-Njoku-Blog-101556541466195/ (Facebook)  https://ca.linkedin.com/in/miriamnjoku (Linkedin) CLUBHOUSE: @miriamnjoku See https://omnystudio.com/listener (omnystudio.com/listener) for privacy information.

Rex is chatting to Emmanuela Shinta, a 26-year-old Dayak woman from Kalimantan, Borneo, about her role in this world and the power of taking action, even when you don’t know what you’re doing.  Emmanuela is an activist, film producer and director, founder of the Ranu Welum Foundation and a leader for young people.  She’s gained notice over the years, speaking before the United Nations and a number of other international platforms about the deforestation of the Bornean rainforest and the overall destruction of her beloved country and her Dayak culture. She has trained more than 100 young indigenous people to use a camera to share their cause, and continues to raise awareness of the Dayak people and Kalimantan through the use of short videos and documentaries.  Episode highlights:  Who Emmanuela Shinta is and what her vision is - being born in Kalimantan as a Dayak woman was “no accident” Why Emmanuela feels like she wasted the first 17 years of her life - not knowing what her purpose was The turning point for Emmanuela when she realised her purpose  She did not see the vision for what she wants to happen until she experienced the pain of the destruction of her country Why Emmanuela thinks the transformation of Kalimantan is possible  The power of vision and the vision for Borneo The voice of indigenous communities and avoiding conflict Being invited to speak before the UN - talking about issues and solutions What Emmanuela thinks every small to medium business owner needs to pay attention to The problem comes when we separate ourselves from each other As a business owner, you have a responsibility Working together to make the world a better place Useful Links:  Emmanuela Shinta on LinkedIn Emmanuela Shinta Website Emmanuela Shinta Instagram Emmanuela Shinta Twitter Emmanuela Shinta YouTube Mind Matters Link:  Mind Matters Website Catherine Connolly on LinkedIn Rex Urwin on LinkedIn Mind Matters Twitter  Mind Matters Facebook info@mindmatters.me See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
