It's time to witness what you were previously denied as a reader. Jadzia Axelrod returns to the podcast, talking full spoilers about her new weekly DC Pride event series, Justice League: Dream Girls. Done in collaboration with co-writer Nicole Maines, illustrators Nicola Scott, J. Bone, Ted Brandt, Ro Stein, and a mess load of others, this series reunites superheroes Galaxy and Dreamer immediately after the harrowing events of Justice League Intergalactic. They awaken as princess and champion of the Amazons, rescuing someone who sure looks a lot like Steve Trevor before being propelled into a dramatically different, animated Gotham landscape. Reality and unreality blend together. This week's episode offers a perfect opportunity for reflection: Jadzia Axelrod contemplating the non-linear path that her precious character has taken from Galaxy: The Pretties Star to Hawkgirl to Galaxy: As the World Falls Down to Justice League: Dream Girls. We discuss why her Galaxy pairs so beautifully with Nicole Maines' Dreamer, the tricky oppositions these two characters faced after Justice League Intergalactic, and how their trip through iconic DC storylines in Dream Girls reveals the brilliance and joy readers were previously denied in their comics. Justice League: Dream Girls #1 is out now from DC Comics, with each issue in the four-issue event hitting every Wednesday in June. It's written by Jadzia Axelrod and Nicole Mains, illustrated by Nicola Scott, J. Bone, Ted Brandt, and Ro Stein, colored by Marissa Louise and Dearbhla Kelly, and lettered by Jodie Troutman and Frank Cvetkovic. To continue this conversation with Jadzia Axelrod, make sure you're following her Website and BlueSky. This Week's Sponsors This June, Top Shelf Productions is bringing you unforgettable stories from the deeply personal to the absolutely colossal. Then, on June 23rd, buckle up for Minnie Pouches in the MicroRealm! From Caleb Goellner and Eric Lide comes a wildly imaginative all-ages adventure about a super-anxious super-strong girl battling pizza dinosaurs, laser robots, and floating nightmares across bizarre dimensions to rescue her pets and save her family. Over the past month, there have been two dominant stories in American foreign policy. One, of course, is the war with Iran. The other is the much-anticipated summit between President Trump and Xi Jinping of China. And I think if you look closely at both of these stories, you see that our foreign policy has entered into a period of absolute incoherence. I'm not even sure what the status of the Iran war is at this point. What is Trump trying to achieve? What is he willing to accept? Taking a more hawkish approach to China has been a core and consistent principle of Trump's since his first term. He's been insistent that China has taken advantage of the United States and that America needed to change that dynamic and flex more power. But is that happening? Is that even Trump's position anymore? So I wanted to do an episode looking at China and Iran and trying to assess Trump's foreign policy in general and the ways he's remaking what America means on the world stage. Kyle Samani, co-founder of Forward, breaks down his latest deal on the main stage at Solana, a minority stake in Henri, a reinsurance RWA yielding 12-13%, funded by a Galaxy debt facility at 3.5%. The 365 Days of Astronomy, the daily podcast of the International Year of Astronomy 2009
https://spacescoop.org/en/scoops/2605/story-of-suns-road-trip-through-the-milky-way-with-friends/ Did you know that our Sun and its many, uh, childhood friends were all born at a place much closer to the center of our Galaxy? Over the years, our Sun and its friends have been on sort of a speedy galactic tour traveling a distance of almost 10,000 light-years from the center of the Milky Way. But traveling much farther than that on a long curved trajectory! Astronomers call this the 'mass migration' of stars. Kind of like a flock of migrating birds. How and when did these stellar siblings migrate to where they are now? To find out, a team of astronomers did some galactic archaeology, tracing the history of stars in our Galaxy. Using data from ESA's Gaia telescope, the team found almost 6,600 stars just like our Sun. The astronomers aptly call these stars the 'solar twins.' Welcome back! On this week's episode, we talk about the NBA Playoffs and who we want to see win now that our (Dennis and Harold's) beloved Lakers have been eliminated. And then afterwards, we talk the state of the Star Wars universe, as we delve in to what we would like to see coming from the creatives in charge, and if we think they need to cater to newer or older fans. What do you guys think? Where do you want to see the Star Wars Galaxy move to? This episode was recorded before we knew who was going to be in the Finals, and also before we watched The Mandalorian and Grogu, which should have a review forthcoming.

On the podcast, survival comes up a lot. Is it enough to just make it through one more day? Should we strive for more? This week, we're pondering the artistic life alongside cartoonists Dave Baker and Nicole Goux. Their latest graphic novel, Punk'n Heads, features several characters encountering adulthood and navigating an active/inactive existence. All while screaming their souls into punk rock, connecting to an audience adrift. Dave Baker and Nicole Goux are longtime collaborators, and Punk'n Heads represents years of artistic evolution. It's about as personal a comic as they've ever made together; maybe even teetering on memoir. It's an exhilarating coming-of-age story that showcases the medium's power while never skimping on complex characterization. Comics can do the impossible, make music where sound doesn't exist. Punk'n Heads is out now in trade paperback from Top Shelf Productions. Make sure you're following Dave Baker on Instagram and his website. Do the same for Nicole Goux, follow her on Bluesky, Instagram, and her website. On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter (from the East Coast) talk about the Galaxy's draw with Houston, but more importantly, what the FIFA World Cup Break will look like and why the Galaxy should be among the movers in the transfer window. There are a lot of things that need to happen in a short period of time for the Galaxy to come out of this six-week break better than when they went in. Let's talk about it! -- Corner of the Galaxy is kicking off Season 18, just a few shows past number 1,280! And we can't wait to show you everything we've got in store for 2026! This is a reminder that we go live twice a week — on Mondays and Thursdays at 8 PM on YouTube — and that you can find us conveniently on your preferred podcast platform (Apple, Spotify, SoundCloud, YouTube, Google Play, etc.). We're making it easy for you to stay connected! So tell a friend that you've been listening to the longest-running team-specific podcast in Major League Soccer and that 2025 is a great time to start listening!

Some stories stay with you long after the mission ends. After 21 years in the United States Air Force, Derrick Jackson knows what it means to serve, sacrifice, and carry the emotional weight that comes with military life. From working as a jet engine specialist to becoming a Special Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, Derrick's career took him across the world and into situations most people never see. This conversation dives into the discipline, pressure, and emotional cost of service. Derrick opens up about the guilt he carried as a father while being deployed, the weight of sitting across from people on the worst days of their lives, and the challenge of transitioning out of active duty into civilian life. He also shares how writing became an unexpected form of healing. Through his debut novel Shadow One, Derrick turned pieces of his military experience into fiction, creating a story that reflects the pressure, doubt, and humanity behind service. Derrick's journey is a powerful reminder that healing doesn't always happen by forgetting what you've been through. Sometimes, it begins when you finally give it a voice. Guest Bio Derrick Jackson is a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, former Special Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, and fiction author. During his 21 years of service, Derrick first worked as a jet engine specialist on aircraft including the F-15 Eagle, C-5 Galaxy, C-141 Stratofortress, and C-17 Globemaster. After 10 years, he was recruited into the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, where he worked in criminal investigations, counterintelligence, protective services, and economic crimes. His assignments took him across the U.S. and overseas, including work supporting Air Force Special Operations Command missions worldwide. In 2014, Derrick retired from the Air Force after more than two decades of service. He is now a fiction author and released his debut novel, Shadow One, as part of the Shadow One series in 2024. You'll hear About Why Derrick joined the Air Force after making a life-changing decision in seconds How military discipline shaped his growth and leadership The emotional cost of serving as a special agent How guilt affected him as a father during deployments Why talking, faith, family, and support helped him release pressure How writing became an unexpected form of therapy after military service Chapters 00:00 Welcome and Episode Introduction 01:15 Meet Derrick Jackson 02:15 Why He Joined the Air Force 04:15 Starting at the Bottom and Learning Discipline 08:00 Climbing the Military Ladder 10:00 Why Your Environment Matters 14:15 The Emotional Cost of Military Service 15:00 Carrying Guilt as a Father 19:00 The Weight of Being a Special Agent 22:30 Finding Support Through Coworkers, Faith, and Family 26:00 How Writing Became Therapy 29:00 Transitioning Out of Active Duty 34:45 The Story Behind the Shadow One Series 40:45 Derrick's Message for Anyone Carrying Heavy Weight 43:15 Final Reflections and Key Takeaways Chuck's Challenge This week, take one honest step toward releasing something you have been carrying. Maybe it is guilt. Maybe it is stress from your work. Maybe it is a memory you have tried to push down. Maybe it is a weight you convinced yourself you had to carry alone. Find one safe way to let some of it out. Talk to someone you trust. Write it down. Pray about it. Sit with yourself and admit what is really going on. Because as Derrick shared, healing does not happen by burying the weight. It begins when you are willing to recognize it, give it language, and take one step toward support. Fresh off another whirlwind Disneyland weekend, Tim and Audreyann recap a trip that had a little bit of everything: Bluey dance parties, Star Wars updates in Galaxy's Edge, ride breakdowns, long waits, tired kids, and the emotional rollercoaster of doing Disney with children in wildly different stages of life. They talk about the new Mandalorian version of Smugglers Run, the return of classic Star Wars characters, why staying “outside the Disney bubble” completely changed the vibe of the trip, and why the Bluey show may have been the highlight of the weekend. Plus, the reality of Disney trips with a stubborn 5-year-old, split-up ride strategies, Memorial Day crowds, and the moment they realized family Disney trips are starting to look very different than they used to.It's funny, chaotic, nostalgic, honest… and very relatable for Disney parents.
Steph recaps day two of her Disneyland trip with Donna. She and Donna do Minnie and Daisy bounds, grab Starbucks at Market House before checking in at the Tour Gardens for the Disneyland Railroad Guided Tour with guide Ashley. The tour covers railroad history, Walt and Lillian's backyard train compromise, and ends with a ride in the Lilly Belle. They later visit Galaxy's Edge, ride Haunted Mansion, shop, and take PhotoPass photos. They also enjoyed the Beauty and the Beast Royal Theatre show with a tiramisu cold brew and chocolate croissant cookie, then met their good friend Kris, her husband Connor, and their son William for dinner at Carthay Circle to celebrate Kris' birthday.Thank you to all of my listeners, friends and supporters! Help us, Obi-Wan, you're our only hope! This week, Emily and V look at three separate events that, as we say in Star Wars fandom, "rhyme": the releases of Star Wars (1977), Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983), and Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). While audience reactions to the three movies aren't identical, the Force grip that Star Wars has on all of us has remained steadfast since the beginning. Star Wars is more than a fandom. It's an energy... it surrounds us and penetrates us... it binds the Galaxy together. Also, listeners, weigh in: are you like Emily, an ewok fan, or are you like V, terrified of ewoks? First things first, have you got your copy of Absolute Green Arrow #1? Have you read it? Okay, good. You may proceed. This week, we're going full spoilers with writer Pornsak Pichetshote and artist Rafael Albuquerque, discussing the person behind the Longbow Killer's mask. We pitch our theories. Pornsak and Rafael hear them. We read their microexpressions for clues. Absolute Green Arrow #1 hit comic shops today (Wednesday, May 20th). It's bound to stir some serious conversation. Some folks will react with discomfort, and that discomfort is an invitation for consideration and conversation, a mode DC's Absolute Universe excels in. As Pornsak Pichetshote says during our chat, Absolute Green Arrow is an angry book. It's a reflection of the world outside our window today, and it should get you thinking about life beyond the pages you're holding. The extremity pursued in this book, and other Absolute titles, is about more than looking badass. It's a way to capture an emotional truth we're all experiencing in 2026. This week, we talk Longbow Killer suspects. We discuss the Italian horror slashers that inspired their green hooded killer, how unhinged wealth dehumanizes everyone, and why serialization is superior to binge entertainment. Absolute Green Arrow #1 is a single issue that excels as a single issue. The first chapter is out now. It's written by Pornsak Pichetshote, illustrated by Rafael Albuquerque, colored by Marcelo Maiolo, and lettered by Jeff Powell. Make sure you follow Pornsak Pichetshote on Bluesky and Instagram and Rafael Albuquerque on Bluesky and Instagram.
