Jeannette talks to the fabulous Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, Vice Chairman, External Affairs for the Royal Caribbean Group and author of “Making Waves: A Woman's Rise to the Top Using Smarts, Heart and Courage". Lisa joins the show to talk about her fascinating business background, how she conquered the world of business, and what's coming in her future. Lisa talks about what makes a great leader, why women deserve a more prominent role in all aspects of life, and how the power of courage can transform your path through life. She also discusses her book, and talks about how it is built upon the transferrable lessons from her own life in business. KEY TAKEAWAYS People are drawn to leadership and magnetic power of those who steer the ships. True leaders are those we can lean on during the stormier times. Learning is not just about seeing the things we aspire to. It's about recognising what doesn't work, and calculating that into our life plan, too. Everyone has an ego, but the problems arise when we are led solely by it, instead of using it as an accelerating force. Many who enter business near the top don't arrive with the smarts and the skills that you can only gain by climbing the ladder progressively. BEST MOMENTS "I learned that a great leader is a great leader. And that's what people are looking for. Captains aren't looking for someone who was a captain to be their leader at the end of the day." "I always find it serendipitous that I ended up in the cruise business, hospitality on the ocean. And it's like this. My life came full circle and it was through no plan." "I was a woman who did it. And, you know, the subtitle of Making Waves is a woman's rise to the top using smart and courage." "I've had to be very conscious of that. You know, when I was my first promotion was going from a salesperson to a regional sales manager, which meant that I went from an individual contributor."   This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It's never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. Prior to that, she served as President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises from 2014 to 2023, the first woman to take the helm of a Royal Caribbean Group brand and one of the few women then leading a multi-billion dollar brand. Lutoff-Perlo is a recognized trailblazer in the global hospitality industry. She was the driving force behind transforming and re-defining today's relaxed luxury cruise experience with a bold, innovative approach to ship design and service for both the industry and the Celebrity Cruises brand. Launching Celebrity's Edge Series in 2018, the ships were immediately hailed as game-changing for the industry and recognized on TIME Magazine's annual “World's Greatest Places” list. She also led the Celebrity brand through a digital transformation, tapping into new market opportunities, customer trends, a robust digital marketing focus and increasing guest loyalty. In the years leading up to the global pandemic, Lutoff-Perlo led Celebrity Cruises to historic financial performance. She then led the industry back into service on June 26, 2021, when Celebrity Edge was the first ship to sail from a U.S. port and went on to return the brand's business performance to historical ranges in the first full year post-pandemic. In 2023, Celebrity Cruises' ships were the first in the world to earn the coveted star rating from Forbes Travel Guide, further solidifying the brand's relaxed luxury resorts at sea brand positioning. A purpose-driven leader, Lutoff-Perlo also catalyzed cultural progress in the 200-year-old cruise industry by appointing the first American female Captain and the first West-African woman to work on the bridge of a cruise ship; making history with the first all-female bridge and leadership sailing in 2020; and, ultimately, increasing Celebrity's percentage of women on the bridge to 32%, far exceeding the maritime industry average of 2%. She has been recognized with numerous awards for business transformation, outstanding leadership, diversity and inclusion, and her numerous philanthropic efforts., and is a member of the Board of Directors of Fortune 500 company AutoNation (NYSE: AN) actively lending her expertise to numerous nonprofit boards. Lutoff-Perlo shares her powerful career stories and lessons learned in her leadership book, “Making Waves: A Woman's Rise to the Top Using Smarts, Heart and Courage,” available in February 2024. Authentic Guide to Building a Fulfilling Life with Tarinee Pandey  What does it take to find success? For Tarinee Pandey, it was a twofold lesson of learning to come from a place of humility in all things and to take pride in what you've accomplished. While there's something to be said for bringing something to an extreme, there's also a lot of value in finding balance. All the life lessons you learn have their place. In this episode, Tarinee Pandey, the Chief People Officer of Puma Capital Group, describes the lessons she learned from the three valuable moments in her life. The first is the journey Puma Capital Group embarked on to become one of the Top 100 Greatest Places to Work despite its not-so-perfect beginnings. The second and third are her personal stories of running the London Marathon and learning to accept a wonderful life — even if it's not perfect. Sometimes, the life lessons taught to us can seem conflicting. Should we be humble? Or should we take pride in all that we do? In the end, it's about being able to use all these life lessons at once. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Learn what it takes to become part of the Top 100 Greatest Places to Work Understand the humility of pushing yourself to the limits when pursuing a goal. Discover how an imperfect life can still be one of the most wonderful things. Resources  Contact Tarinee on LinkedIn See what Tarinee has to say about her company on their website. Coaching with Angela Cox Listen to The Mindset Mentor Meets Episode Highlights  [02:39] Tarinee's First Proudest Moment: A Great Company Tarinee's company was rated one of the Top 100 Great Places to Work within financial services. It's not about the award — it's about the journey from an unpleasant company to a great one. Their company initially hired people based on their skills rather than who they were. It eventually became a place that even Tarinee would want to avoid working in. It took several difficult decisions to make the company what it is today — a company where people truly feel they belong. [09:40] Tarinee's Second Proudest Moment: Running a Marathon Tarinee trained hard for and ran the London Marathon — a run spanning over 26 miles. Running the marathon taught her the value of setting a goal and seeing it through to the end, regardless of the obstacles. Training for the marathon had difficult moments that Tarinee admits weren't enjoyable. Tarinee admits that finishing the marathon doesn't change anything for anyone else but was a powerful personal journey. [14:14] The London Marathon At first, she thought she could stick to her time goals. The second part of the run had her telling herself to stick to her plan. She had run this far before in training, so she would be okay. The last part had her running with the strength of her heart — mind over matter, despite how her body hurt. Tarinee described the whole experience as both emotional and meditative. [18:29] Tarinee's Third Proudest Moment: Accepting the No Tarinee's third moment is deeply personal — it's when she decided not to have a second child. She has a thirteen-year-old son, but they struggled to have a second one. Tarinee learned to let go of the fact that, even if life wasn't going the way she wanted, that didn't mean it wasn't a good life. Tarinee admits that her entire life had been all about working and pushing hard enough for what she wanted. One of the most powerful life lessons Tarinee learned was to be proud of what she has — even if it wasn't exactly what she wanted. [27:47] Tarinee's Secret to Success Success comes from building meaningful relationships. The relationships can be personal or professional, but they underly everything. However, building relationships is hard; it requires work and trust. It's also important to have fun doing what you're doing. [31:37] How to Connect You won't want to connect with everyone, so recognise that you don't have to connect with everybody. Find people to connect with who make you feel safe, value your views, and do the same for you. [33:08] 2024 For Tarinee Tarinee aims to be better at self-care. Getting better at self-care means setting healthy boundaries. It also means being more intentional about what she does instead of trying to do everything at once. 5 Powerful Quotes [04:36] ‘If we don't like coming to work, surely no one else is having a great time at that.' [07:25] ‘Ultimately, it is about human beings — and human beings feel proud and want to belong.' [10:49] ‘I was really proud of it [The London Marathon] because it really taught me about the sort of impact of setting a goal and just seeing it through to the end — never mind the obstacles.' [22:49] ‘It's pride in being able to understand when you just have to accept.' [29:19] ‘If you achieve every single goal, but you're always doing it alone, it's lonely, right? It's lonely.' About Tarinee Tarinee Pandey is the Chief People Officer of Puma Capital Group, which is one of the Top 100 Greatest Places to Work. On this week's special episode of Extra Serving, NRN editor Alicia Kelso speaks with Yum Brands chief operating officer and chief people officer Tracy Skeans.Tracy Skeans joined Yum Brands in 2000 and has since worked her way up through the ranks gaining experience in finance, HR, business transformation, operations, food safety, culture, talent – name it.Now, as the company's chief operating officer and chief people officer, she oversees many parts of the global restaurant company. But when it comes to what she's most passionate about, it's gender parity. In fact, Skeans has spent the past several years as a board member for the Women's Foodservice Forum, including as chair in 2022.It's perhaps no coincidence, then, that Skeans' company walks the walk on this issue. Yum Brands is a founding member of the WFF, for instance, as well as a member of the Paradigm for Parity coalition. It has been recognized for its efforts by the Bloomberg Gender-Equity Index, Forbes' “Best Employers for Diversity” list, Fortune's “World's Most Admired Companies” list, Newsweek's “America's Greatest Places for Women” list and more.Notably, the company's Paradigm for Parity membership includes a pledge to achieve gender parity in global leadership positions by 2030, and the company is well on its way to meeting that goal. Currently, more than 42% of the company's leadership positions are held by women, up materially from about 30% when the goal was first announced just five years ago.Take a listen to their full conversation.

Windstar Cruises is able to visit the port due to its small size and sail through the scenic Grand Canal channel.Bar Harbor has limited the number of guests monthly and daily that can visit the port (note that legal action is pending). Key West has been looking to limit cruise ship visits and which port berths are available for use. French Polynesia has banned cruise ships with capacity greater than 3,500 passengers from making port calls in the country. Ships over 2,500 passengers are allowed to dock in Tahiti and Moorea; however, tiny Bora Bora allows just 1,200 cruise passengers per day. Windstar has been sailing in Tahiti for more than 35 years, and no other cruise line knows the islands, or rules, like them. Both Windstar's 148 motorized sailing yacht (which was tailor-made for cruising Tahiti's islands) and 312-guest all-suite yacht sail there, accessing Bora Bora, Raiatea, Moorea, and others. Santorini, Greece is limited to 8,000 passengers ashore per day. Some ships have been forced to change itineraries as a result.Juneau is moving to only allowing five ships to dock a day, with no ship able to anchor over a certain passenger count and no “hot berthing,” i.e., when two ships occupy the same berth at different times during the day.  And more...Join the show:If you have a cruise tip, burning question or want to record a cruise review get in touch with us via the website https://thebigcruisepodcast.com/join-the-show/ Guests: Chris Frame: https://bit.ly/3a4aBCg   Chris's Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/ChrisFrameOfficialListen & Subscribe: Amazon Podcasts: https://amzn.to/3w40cDcApple Podcasts: https://apple.co/2XvD7tF Audible: https://adbl.co/3nDvuNgCastbox: https://bit.ly/2xkGBEI Google Podcasts: https://bit.ly/2RuY04u I heart Radio:  https://ihr.fm/3mVIEUASpotify: https://spoti.fi/3caCwl8 Stitcher: https://bit.ly/2JWE8Tz Pocket casts: https://bit.ly/2JY4J2M Tune in: https://bit.ly/2V0Jrrs Podcast Addict: https://bit.ly/2BF6LnE Hosted on Acast. Really… Detroit? It's in America's cash-flowing Midwest. But is there a stigma involved? Does it matter? In the 1950s, Detroit was the wealthiest city in the entire world, led by the manufacturing and automotive industry. But it endured a horrific economic and population downfall late last century due to aging manufacturing plants, high taxes, overregulation, poor services, corruption, and lack of public administration. Detroit even filed for bankruptcy. Between 2010 and 2020, the population of the Detroit Metro grew 2%+, per the US Census Bureau. Time magazine named Detroit one of the World's 50 Best Places To Live—one of just five US cities. Our own COO, Aundrea Newbern, MBA, recently chose to move to the Detroit Metro.  The average Detroit income property from today's guest provider rents for $1,100 to $1,200 and costs about $120K. These are renovated single-family homes, often brick. The Big 3 auto manufacturers are all headquartered in Michigan today. Earlier this summer the city of Detroit got another feather in their proverbial cap as the region continues it's renaissance, recovery and reaffirms its commitment and place as one of north America's proudest and vibrant cities. When Time Magazine placed the Motor city on their list of one of the 50 greatest places to be in 2022. This year's list is the third annual compilation and highlights what visitors can expect of various hot spots internationally. Fun and unique countries, regions, cities and towns were nominated by contributors from all over the map to help Time magazine compile a list full of fresh experiences. "The story of Detroit's resilient people, along with a rich heritage of design, innovation, and diversity, ensured that it was part of this prestigious cohort," said Time in a news release. "Nearly 10 years after Detroit filed for bankruptcy, travelers can now play a role in the city's vibrant economic recovery by simply driving through. Detroit was recently selected as home of the USA's first electric-vehicle charging road, solidifying its title once again as the Motor City—but for the modern age," TIME wrote. Christopher Moyer is the Senior Director, Communications at Visit Detroit. He joined me this week to discuss what the honor means as Detroit continues its impressive comeback. Greenwich Peninsula, located at a bend in the river Thames, East of historic Greenwich and opposite the mouth of the river Lea, has historically been a peripheral area of London. It was a farm and marshland until, in the 19th Century, it became home to Europe's largest gas works. Until the extension of the Jubilee line and the construction of the Millennium Dome, this industrial legacy was a barrier to the development of the peninsula. The dome — not the O2 Arena — was intended to mark the start of an ambitious plan for a new urban centre, but a post-party wrangling about the area's future and the onset of the 2008 financial crash slowed progress considerably. In 2013, the majority of the peninsula was bought by the developers Knight Dragon, who set about one of the largest urban regeneration projects in Europe. The latest addition is Design District, already named by Time magazine as one of 2021's World's Greatest Places, and featuring a rare density of buildings by leading contemporary architects such as 6A, Adam Khan Architects and David Kohn Architects. This tour tells its story. We made this tour from our offices in Bureau. In addition to too many wows to list, Erin has just published her memoir, Finding Freedom. I interviewed her at a webinar sponsored by Women Who Empower, a network of strong, creative, and innovative women and men launched by Northeastern University a decade ago. The aim of Women Who Empower is to bring together and inspire future generations through events, scholarships, learning, and entrepreneurship opportunities, to overcome disparities and biases, connect, and lead change in their communities and beyond.Let's have a listen.Heritage Radio Network is a listener supported nonprofit podcast network. Welcome to Tulsa Talks presented by Tulsa Regional Chamber. I’m your host Tim Landes. The voice that just kicked this is off is Jeff Stava. Jeff is the chief operating officer for Tulsa Community Foundation and the executive director of Tulsa’s Gathering Place, which just celebrated its first birthday after a phenomenal opening year. Park officials expected around 1 million visitors, but it was a little more popular than anticipated with nearly 3 million people visiting Gathering Place. There have been glowing write-ups in the New York Times. In September, Urban Land Institute named it among its 11 Global Awards for Excellence. In August Time Magazine named it one of the 100 World’s Greatest Places to Experience. It was named USA Today’s Best New Attraction and the list goes on.Jeff and I spent a lot of time talking about Gathering Place. We talked about the parks many successes in the first year and how it weathered the historic flooding six months after it opened. We talk about what’s to come for the park, because as amazing as it is, there is still another phase of construction that includes the Children's Museum. Jeff talks about the ways they are dealing with heavy traffic and the new ways visitors can access the park without trying to find parking in the nearby neighborhoods. He’s been a Tulsan most his life, so we talk about his previous work in the fishing and tackle industry and what the husband and father of two’s hobbies are outside of work. I had a great time getting to know Jeff and having a chat. He’s a great ambassador for Gathering Place and Tulsa. His energy and excitement when talking about both is infectious. Following that conversation, city editor Morgan Phillips heads to the Tulsa State Fair to figure out What the What (48:40) it takes for a mama pig give birth in a room full of spectators enjoying bacon treats and hot dogs. The star of the segment is Sadie, who was forced to carry around 15 babies for days at the fair. Somebody get her a megaride pass and a funnel cake.Closing out this episode of Tulsa Talks is CliffDiver, which is sharing their new single “Cameron Diaz” (52:50). It’s the first single from the six-piece pop punk band’s follow-up to their 2018 EP Small Hours, which is available on Spotify.

For this week's News & Brews, we cracked open a fresh four-pack of the Chicago brewery's flagship beer, its Strawberry Basil Hefeweizen. That is one of four Forbidden Root beers that are now being sold around Central Ohio in cans. The brand is opening its second-ever brewpub as part of Easton's $500 million expansion and expects to be open in November where it'll offer a wider array of its botanical inspired and influenced beers. But those first sips can be had now. Tune in to get our panel's first impressions. Stick around for a little longer for a recap of a busy news and restaurant week. We discuss Wolf's Ridge Brewing Co.'s expansion plans, which will up its production capabilities and facilitate a move into cans. Though what it won't have, at least at first, is a taproom. The always active folks down at BrewDog in Canal Winchester have plenty of new projects on tap too including a bringing a distillery online over the next year and expanding its already popular DogHouse hotel, which last month was named as one of the World's 100 Greatest Places for 2019 by Time magazine. Plans call for the addition of four “kennels” which will be suites made inside shipping containers that'll be deposited out on the brewery property. Speaking of always expanding, we also have a speculative chat about Easton Town Center. Last week we reported that New York-based Ark Restaurants Corp. and the developers of Easton were in discussions to bring as many as 20 to 25 new restaurants to the Columbus development over the next five years. Why are eateries in such high demand these days and what might this mean for Easton? Give us a listen. We also talk about polka.

Nearly five years into the business, The Grey has won Eater's Restaurant of the Year, been named as one of Time Magazine's 100 Greatest Places on Earth, and partner and Chef Mashama Bailey was recently named Best Chef in the Southeast by the James Beard Foundation after being nominated each of the last two years. WDW Opinion Ep. 9 - FastPass+ Tips and Tricks In 1999 Disney released a new technology that revolutionized the theme park going experience. The virtual queuing system known as FastPass, pegged the simple question “what if you could reserve your ride time?” What came of that question was a tool that has now been implemented in almost every major theme park theme park in some form or another. But in 2013 the FastPass system Disney park fans had come to know and love would be changed forever. With the advent of My Magic Plus and My Disney Experience, Disney began to take a technology first approach to much of the daily routines the average theme park guest would encounter. This meant giving guests the ability to book FastPassess months in advance and change, edit and adjust reservations on the fly from the convenience of their smartphone. Love it or hate it FastPass+ is here to stay. Rather than complain you should embrace this incredible tool and use it to its full potential.
