Happy April Fool's Day! But rather than play a trick on you, I thought I'd show off how wonderful Spring is here inside Hot Springs Village. Thanks to Grok.com, an artificial intelligence search engine, we receive the following answer to the question, "What is a typical spring like in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas?" Spring in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, is generally a pleasant and mild season, characterized by warming temperatures, blooming flora, and a transition from the cooler winter months. Based on the climate of the region, here's what you can expect: From March to May, temperatures gradually rise. In March, average highs range from the mid-50s to low 60s°F (13-17°C), with lows in the 30s to 40s°F (2-7°C). By April, highs climb into the upper 60s to low 70s°F (19-23°C), and May sees highs in the upper 70s to low 80s°F (25-28°C), with lows warming into the 50s and 60s°F (10-18°C). Rainfall is fairly common, as spring is one of the wetter seasons in Arkansas, with April and May often seeing 4-6 inches of rain spread across several days. Thunderstorms can occur, occasionally bringing heavy downpours or even a rare tornado, though severe weather is less frequent than in flatter parts of the state. The natural surroundings of Hot Springs Village—nestled in the Ouachita Mountains and surrounded by forests, lakes, and rolling hills—come alive in spring. March might still feel a bit dormant, but by April, wildflowers like dogwoods, redbuds, and azaleas start to bloom, painting the landscape with color. The area's 11 lakes and numerous hiking trails become more inviting as the weather warms, and wildlife, including deer, birds, and squirrels, becomes more active. Humidity begins to creep up in May, hinting at the muggy summer ahead, but it's usually not oppressive yet. For residents and visitors, spring is a popular time for outdoor activities like golfing (the village boasts multiple courses), fishing, and boating. The mild weather also makes it ideal for exploring nearby Hot Springs National Park, just a short drive away, where the thermal springs and historic bathhouses are a year-round draw. Locals might describe it as a season of renewal—green returning to the trees, patios opening up, and a laid-back vibe as the community shakes off winter. Next, I asked Grok.com: "Does Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, experience many tornadoes?" Answer: Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, does not experience a high frequency of tornadoes compared to more tornado-prone areas like the central plains of the U.S., but it is not entirely immune to them either. Located in the Ouachita Mountains in west-central Arkansas, the village benefits from some natural protection due to its hilly terrain, which can disrupt the formation or intensity of tornadoes compared to flatter regions. However, Arkansas as a whole lies on the eastern edge of "Tornado Alley," and tornadoes can and do occur in the state, including in the vicinity of Hot Springs Village. Historically, Garland and Saline Counties, which encompass Hot Springs Village, see occasional tornado activity, particularly during the spring months (March through May) when warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico clashes with cooler air masses. Most tornadoes in this region are weaker—typically EF0 or EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale—with winds under 110 mph, causing minor damage like downed trees or power lines. Stronger tornadoes (EF2 or higher) are less common but not unheard of. For example, the broader Hot Springs area has experienced notable tornadoes in the past, such as an EF2 that hit parts of Garland County in 1999, though it didn't directly strike the village. Data from the National Weather Service suggests Arkansas averages about 30-40 tornadoes statewide per year, with the majority occurring in spring and some in late fall. Hot Springs Village itself, being a large, spread-out community of about 26,000 acres, might only see a direct hit once every few decades,

Driving from Dallas to Oxford, Mississippi, and back over the course of a three-day weekend sounds like a daunting proposition for a lot of people. After all, Dallas is 530 miles from Oxford, so the journey entails a lot of driving. But there is reason behind our madness. Our future son-in-law went to Ole Miss, and he and my daughter asked us to join them to make the trip to see the Rebels play Oklahoma. How could you turn that down? The good news is we found the perfect vehicle for the trip — the 2025 Honda Odyssey Elite minivan. Intelligently upgraded for the new model year, the Odyssey proved to be the ideal vehicle for our, well, odyssey. Of course, it. It wasn't enough to drive directly from Ft. Worth to Oxford, Mississippi — 500 miles as the crow flies. No, with the Odyssey's newly revised infotainment system to guide us, we decided to take a side trip to visit Hot Springs National Park, one of the few national parks in the middle of a city. Then we pointed the Odyssey's attractive nose to Grenada, Mississippi, because getting rooms in Oxford on football weekends involves mortgaging your home or selling an offspring. The Odyssey's long-standing reputation as a reliable, spacious transporter proved invaluable. With five travelers aboard, we appreciated the roomy interior that can accommodate as many as eight and the adaptable seating. Honda's Magic Slide seats and the fold-flat third row offered versatility, making cargo management easy, even with tons of luggage and snacks aboard. The Odyssey's V-6 engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission provided smooth and efficient performance, providing plenty of power for passing on the rural two-lanes we often found ourselves on. Notable tech features like a rear-seat entertainment system, cabin camera, and PA system kept everyone comfortable and connected. In short, the Odyssey slayed as a cross-country family cruiser, and Host Jack Nerad will tell you more in this episode. This week, our special guest is also our guest host. A few days ago, Matt DeLorenzo and host Jack Nerad traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for the annual North American Car of the Year test session. After driving about a dozen car of the year contenders each, they sat down to talk about what they had learned and what vehicles impressed them. In this episode, Matt Delorenzo will also review one of the North American Truck of the Year semi-finalists, the 2025 Ford Ranger with its new 2.7-liter turbocharged engine. In the news, the Biden Administration's proposed ban on cars and trucks that include Chinese technology is facing big-time blowback from several sources, including the Mexican government. One auto brand says the ban will eliminate it completely from the U.S. market, including the vehicles it builds in Carolina. We'll have more on that. Speaking of the Chinese, Volkswagen is having big troubles in Europe and worldwide with many of its issues caused by new Chinese competition. We'll tell you how that might sort out and what it could mean here in America. Meanwhile Toyota is ramping up its EV efforts with a new deal with Suzuki Motors, one of several efforts it is making on the EV front. Toyota has also unveiled its 2025 GR Corolla, and we'll have details on that coming up. So we have a lot of show for you this week. Thanks for joining us, and don't forget to look for new content on our YouTube and Rumble channels. Please subscribe. If you do we'll like you forever. America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com

This one is a hoot! We go to Hot Springs National Park Arkansas for an overnight adventure soaking in hot springs, enjoying nature, and enjoying our friends' company! This weekend adventure flew us into Dallas with a road trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas. The only place in the country where the town, and everything in it, IS the national park! We may have only been in Arkansas for 24 hours, but as always, we covered a lot of ground! And got to spend time with Kasha & Ryan, two friends we made on our trip to China! (see episodes 3 and 12 for more about that trip!) We thought our trip in November was the best time to visit Hot Springs National Park because it was cool enough to need a jacket, but not be cold which made the morning hike amazing because you could see the steam rising from the hot springs in the ground all around the area. It was a very cool sight to see. Things to do in Hot Springs National Park Bathhouse Row! Review of The Hotel Hot Springs and the spread at its breakfast buffet Superior Bathhouse Brewery – the only brewery in a national park! Inappropriate photos in the tub at Lamars Emporium Very cool historic tour of a traditional bathhouse at Fordyce Visitor Center Our thermal pools and steam cave experience at Quapaw Bathhouse Dinner at the historic gangster hangout, The Ohio Club The delicious Fat Bottomed Girl cupcakes Hiking the Grand Promenade and Goat Rock Trail We also address what we would do differently on this trip if we could do it again, and how to save even more money on weekend trips like this. We are a state that prides ourselves on the abundant opportunities in our great outdoors. In the Natural State, we have over 100,000 miles of navigable streams and rivers, 600,000 acres of lakes, 5 world class Epic Rides mountain bike trails, thousands of miles of hiking trails, over 3.2 million acres of public land, America's first National River, the Buffalo National River…America's first Reserve National Park, which is Hot Springs National Park…the highest waterfall between the Rockies and the Appalations, big game hunting…and on and on.” Katherine Andrews, (5:43)“One of the hardest challenges for recruiting companies [is] actually getting someone from the company to come here. But once we actually got them here, then they [say] ‘ok now I understand. It makes sense to me.' There's an incredible opportunity as a state right now to capitalize on attracting new companies and workers to the state by leveraging our natural assets.” Katherine Andrews, (11:09)“Today, one of the biggest driving forces for companies when they're making location decisions is workforce. Some of the others are business friendliness, cost of doing business, cost of living, proximity to suppliers and consumers. Fortunately for us, we have all of those things. We are one of the most business-friendly states in the US, we are located smack-dab in the middle of the country…and we have a very diverse industry in Arkansas.” Katherine Andrews, (11:43) “There's something special happening here. Bentonville is a community that cares deeply about its people and about creating a sense of place. It draws companies in. So if you look at the investments being made by the philanthropic groups, large corporate organizations, and others, that only just becomes more clear. Northwest Arkansas is one of the fastest growing metros the US, so…that choice to me would be a no-brainer to move here.” Katherine Andrews, (20:37)“My overall goal is for this office to become the one-stop-shop for all things outdoor recreation, a gathering place for knowledge, information, and resources.” Katherine Andrews, (24:10)
When we dive into the paranormal on this podcast, we explore people's greatest fears. So we'd be remiss if we skipped over one of Robin's greatest fears: mirrors. On the surface, they're really not that scary — just a reflective pane with which to check if you have spinach in your teeth. (You do.) But, what if one day you look in the mirror and see something that, well, shouldn't be there? That's what we're exploring today! Poogan's Porch in Charleston, South Carolina is known to be haunted by two ghosts: an adorable little doggy named Poogan, and Zoe St. Amand, an elderly woman who appears in the bathroom, often seen in the mirror by women washing their hands. We dive into Zoe's story (and Poogan's too!) before reading firsthand accounts of terrifying mirror stories from Reddit. But first, Zoey has a Something Southern for us: the Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas.Sources: https://hauntedhospitality.wordpress.com/2022/04/12/ep-55-zoes-in-the-mirror/

Join the Mayor of Hot Springs Arkansas, Pat McCabe and his wife Ellen at their restored historic Hotel Hale in the heart of Bathhouse Row. The McCabes share insights about their arduous journey restoring the historic Hotel Hale , and insights about how Hot Springs has attracted a new clientele. It used to be a destination driven by visitors from people throughout state of Arkansas--but COVID has served as a game changer in demographics. The McCabe note that pre-covid Hot Springs wasn't on the radar for vacationers from Houston, Texas, for example, but now Houstonians have widened their radius of targeted travel destinations and they don't mind the seven-hour road trip to find a relatively safe-haven, with ample outdoor activities at Hot Springs National Park . Curious as to how breweries are doing today during a pandemic? Wondering how and when they will ever open back up? From our travels and love of craft beer, we've met brewery owners, brewers, and many other brewery industry peeps, so we thought, "Why not bring you a candid conversation with some of the people we've met along the road? Why not have some beer with friends and find out what's really going on in our beloved world of craft beer during COVID-19?" They are working hard to brew beer, to open when they can, to continue building a community we all know, love, and can't wait to get back to outside of Zoom calls. So, be good to people, be nice, be patient. We're all going through this pandemic one way or another, it might as well be with friends over a good craft beer. Part of what makes Hot Springs both special and unusual is the downtown portion of the city is surrounded by Hot Springs National Park. If you've never visited, the main street through downtown is Central Avenue. One side of the street is the city, the other side is the iconic "Bath House Row". In this episode, we visit with the HSNP Superintendent, Laura Miller. From the famous thermal water, to the rehabilitation of the bath houses into privately owned businesses to hiking and camping, you'll hear it all from her. Plus, we'll run down a variety of seasonal things you can enjoy in Hot Springs. #HSNP #VisitHotSprings #Thermalwater #tourism #bathhouse --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/neal-gladner/message
While many would say downtown Hot Springs is stronger now than it's been in decades, the growth came in the wake of difficult challenges. The Hot Springs National Park was almost down graded to a "historic site"; floods roared through the downtown business district in the early 90's sweeping cars down Central Avenue as though they were toys; and then came the fire at the once iconic Majestic Hotel. Downtown business leader Mark Fleischner was there for all of it. Now, the one time owner of Lauray's recalls those years and what it took for downtown to get to it's current state. #Hot Springs #majesticfire #HSNP #Visit Hot Springs #History --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/neal-gladner/message

In this episode, listen to Will & Gary talk about Gary's recent trip to Hot Springs National Park. The duo also talk about time management and how to differentiate between different aspects of your life that take up your time.
Hot Springs is not just a name for the destination in Arkansas. It’s a vast history – geological, social, economic, and more. Recently, we got a glimpse into what a perfect day would be in Hot Springs from writer Jamie Siebrase. And we found out about the unique ingredient to be found in the beer. We found it so interesting, we called up Tom Hill, Museum Curator for Hot Springs National Park and asked him to tell us more about what makes Hot Springs such a great place to visit. Stay tuned for an upcoming article about Hot Springs’ very unique beer scene! Tom sent along a few photos from what it was like inside some of the bath houses. The photos are National Park Service images, courtesy of Hot Springs National Park. We have more podcasts for you to enjoy from RealFoodTraveler.com journeys. Enjoy them here and be sure to subscribe on iTunes.
Today we're taking an extended journey to Hot Springs National Park, which we touched on briefly way back on Episode 1 of the RV Miles podcast. Hot Springs National Park is a wonderful destination for rest, rejuvenation, history and a bit of architecture gazing. It's definitely not what you'd expect. We also talk RV shows — what makes them such a great place to shop for RVs or just explore what kind of RV you are looking for. And in the news, we've got more camping world acquisitions, pick-up truck wars, an investigation of Goodyear tire bombs, and the 2018 fuel price outlook. Visiting an RV Show: Heres the link to our RV Miles schedule of all the upcoming RV shows across the country, state by state: rvmiles.com/upcoming-rv-shows And we hope we'll run into you next weekend at the Mid-America RV Show in Kansas City. Hot Springs National Park: Hot Springs is probably the closest national park to a very large section of the country. It resembles a historic site a bit more than your traditional national park, but we think there a plenty of reasons it deserves the name. Visit the National Park Service's website to get started planning your journey, and find out about the historic Fordyce Bathhouse, which is the NPS visitor's center, and the trails and scenic drives nearby. The Buckstaff Bathhouse is the place to get the historic spa treatment, and the Quapaw Baths & Spa is the place to go to get a modern spa treatment or to just soak in pools of hot spring water for $20. We stayed at the Treasure Isle RV Park, which is a nice clean campground with lakefront sites, a pool, decent WIFI, and free cable for a fair price. They have a discount for Passport America members on weekdays.
We sip beers with Rose Schweikhart of Superior Bathhouse Brewery in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas, and get some tips on brewing some tasty beers.
Last December, the National Park Service announced the formation of a law enforcement liaison program, as part of a joint initiative with NHTSA. John Hughes was named the first NPS LEL. A 29-year veteran of the NPS and Chief Ranger of Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas, Hughes is building the program from the ground up. He and Dan Whitcomb, a U.S. Park Ranger with the Blue Ridge Parkway, sat down with us at this year’s Lifesavers Conference to discuss what led to the creation of a federal LEL position, the initial reception he has received from his peers in the LEL field, the challenges of building a LEL program among diverse entities and at a national scope, and how he’d like to see the program develop in the coming years.
Brewery owner Rose Schweikhart gets advice from John Palmer on brewing with hot spring water from Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas.
When John Eger speaks, direct marketers listen. At the time of this recording, John and his partner Phil Kratzer were the nation's leading experts on classified advertising. John's low-cost, 2-step direct response methods allow both large and small advertisers to test with the least possible risk. This recording was from the Bill Myers seminar in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas. John presents the secrets that have helped many work smart, make money and retire early. This recording is from the Bill Myers direct mail boot camp. Since I interview and review marketing gurus all day for a living, you can guess I know what works and what does not. This is an exclusive interview from Michael Senoff at www.hardtofindseminars.com.
The Grand Promenade is a landscaped walkway behind Bathhouse Row. It is a beautiful place to stroll, sit and listen to birds, or just think about the colorful past of Hot Springs National Park.
The Oertel System of Graduated Exercise was built on the trails of Hot Springs National Park in 1914. Dr. Max Oertel developed the system to strengthen the heart through gradually increasing exercise. Sound familiar?

He thought he was the cock of the walk, but this overly vain fowl cries foul when he truly turns vane--i.e. becomes a weathervane. It's "Half-A-Chick", the curious Portuguese fable about the consequences of arrogance. One of the curious things about this story is that the main character is an oddball. Okay, nothing unusual about that; plenty of stories have leading characters who are misfits. (Cinderella, The Ugly Duckling, Harry Potter, etc. etc.) But you'll notice that such characters almost always turn out to be noble and virtuous despite the way other people ridicule and mistreat them. In this case, just the opposite happens -- Half-A-Chick has a double-sized ego, and meets his downfall because of it.This week, we come to you from the heart of the bustling resort town of Hot Springs, Arkansas. (Technically, it's called Hot Springs National Park -- the entire city of 35,000 residents plus hordes of tourists is a national park!) We recorded next to the Visitors' Center, beside one of the many fountains where you can fill up jugs with 143 degree mineral water that's been brewing for 4000 years before spouting from the 47 springs around here. We were right there on "Bathhouse Row" which at one time sported several trendy bath houses and health spas that were frequented by such notable visitors as Al Capone. Today, these structures are preserved as historic buildings, but only one remains in operation as a bath house-- although other bath houses can be found at some of the hotels in town. We mourn the Libbey Memorial Physical Club, the truly unique establishment we luxuriated in on out last trip here. Nothing else like it in Hot Springs or anywhere. (Read about our previous visit to the Bath House)At our performance at the Garland County Library, we met another boy named Zephyr! Moreover, his parents are performers too. That night, we watched their hilarious oom-pah rendition of various American pop songs and originals at the Brauhaus German restaurant. Zach and Cheryl, who moved here from Seattle, call themselves The Itinerant Locals, and they have quite a memorable sound! After Hot Springs, we wrapped up our tour of Arkansas with an experience that can be duplicated nownere else in the world: we went digging for diamonds in the diamond fields near Murfreesboro. We didn't find any of the precious gems (an average of about 2 per day are found there - infact a big one was found by a 13 year old not too long ago) but we had a great time playing in the mud!Happy Listening,Dennis (the Spark), Kimberly (the Water) and Zephyr (Half-A-Chick) Goza
