This week on Fantastic Forum, we're taking a look at two animated superhero series that continue to put fresh spins on some of comics' most iconic characters.   First up is X-Men '97 Season 2 on Disney+, as Marvel's Emmy-winning mutant team returns for another season of time travel, massive threats, and personal drama. With the X-Men scattered across different eras after the events of Season 1, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Rogue, Storm, Beast, Magneto, and the rest of the team must find their way home while confronting new dangers, including the arrival of Apocalypse. With returning voices including Ray Chase, Jennifer Hale, Alison Sealy-Smith, Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Matthew Waterson, and Ross Marquand, we're breaking down the latest chapter of this beloved revival and asking whether Season 2 can match the extraordinary heights of its predecessor.   Then we head to Metropolis for My Adventures with Superman Season 3 on Adult Swim and HBO Max. Jack Quaid, Alice Lee, and Ishmel Sahid return as Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen as their coming-of-age superhero adventure enters a new chapter. With Clark continuing to balance his life as Superman with his career at the Daily Planet and his relationship with Lois, Season 3 expands the show's mythology while introducing new challenges for the young Man of Steel. We're talking about the latest adventures, the evolving relationships, and what makes this anime-inspired take on Superman such a refreshing addition to the DC Universe.   Watch tonight at 6:30 pm PT and call in live at www.fantasticforum.live to share your thoughts. D23 delivered some HUGE announcements for Marvel fans, and we're breaking down the biggest news, trailers, casting reveals, and theories coming out of the event! In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we dive into the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, the latest MCU X-Men casting announcements, Doctor Doom, Incursions, Mr. Sinister, Jean Grey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Kingdom Hearts, and the premiere of DC's Lanterns! AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY TRAILER BREAKDOWN We start with the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer and everything it potentially reveals about Marvel's next massive crossover event. We discuss: • Doctor Doom's role in Avengers: Doomsday • Could Doom experience a heel turn during the movie? • Doctor Doom's potential motivations and master plan • Why Incursions may be the REAL threat • How Incursions work in Marvel Comics • Which Avengers could die in Doomsday • The movie's biggest trailer reveals • How Doomsday could set up Avengers: Secret Wars • Our theories for the future of the MCU Doctor Doom may be positioned as the movie's major antagonist, but we're theorizing that the true threat could be much bigger than any individual villain. With the Multiverse collapsing and Incursions threatening entire realities, could Doom actually become necessary to saving the MCU? And with the stakes this high, we're asking the painful question: Which Avengers aren't making it out alive? MCU X-MEN CASTING & THEORIES Next, we dive into the new X-Men casting announcements and theorize about Marvel Studios' upcoming 2028 X-Men movie. We discuss: • The new MCU X-Men cast • Which mutants could join the team • What Marvel's version of the X-Men could look like • Mr. Sinister's potential role • Could Mr. Sinister be the main villain? • Jean Grey's future in the MCU • Mutants finally becoming a major part of Marvel Studios • How the X-Men could connect to the post-Secret Wars MCU We also discuss Jean Grey's role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and how her story could directly influence the upcoming X-Men movie. Could Spider-Man actually help lay the groundwork for Marvel's mutant era? MR. SINISTER We get particularly nerdy discussing Mr. Sinister, his comic book history, obsession with mutant genetics, and why he could be an excellent villain for the MCU's first major X-Men story. After years of Magneto dominating X-Men adaptations, is it finally time for another classic mutant villain to take center stage? KINGDOM HEARTS RETURNS! We also briefly discuss the surprising announcement of a new Kingdom Hearts TV series and a new Kingdom Hearts game. What could a Kingdom Hearts television adaptation even look like? How heavily will Disney characters be involved? And are we prepared to once again pretend we understand the Kingdom Hearts timeline? LANTERNS EPISODE 1 Finally, we jump over to DC Studios for our thoughts on the first episode of Lanterns. And so far... We really like it! We discuss our first impressions, the show's characters, mystery, tone, and why we're excited to see where the series takes Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and the Green Lantern mythology. JOIN THE DISCUSSION What was the biggest D23 announcement? What is Doctor Doom's real plan? Which Avengers survive Doomsday? Who should join the MCU X-Men? Could Mr. Sinister finally get his time to shine? And what did YOU think of Lanterns Episode 1? Let us know in the comments! In this episode, Chris Cochrane guest-hosts for his brother Ray and devotes the whole show to one event: Disney’s D23 2026 fan convention in Anaheim. Friday night delivered Marvel’s new X-Men cast, Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, a fresh Avengers: Doomsday trailer, and a release date for Frozen 3. Saturday turned to the parks, with Villains Land, an Indiana Jones dark ride, the long-awaited Expedition Everest yeti repair, and a Monsters Inc land opening in 2027. – Want to start a podcast? Instead of six or eight unrelated stories, the entire episode covers Disney’s D23 convention, which he compares to Apple’s WWDC. For newcomers, he notes that D23 is Disney’s official fan club, named for the company’s founding year of 1923. This year’s event ran two nights at the Honda Center: Friday for movies and television, Saturday for the theme parks. Marvel Finally Casts the X-Men Friday’s headline was the X-Men. The Associated Press put the crowd near 12,000, and Marvel Studios used that stage to name its rebooted team. Christopher Abbott plays Professor Charles Xavier, Inde Navarrette plays Rogue, and Maya Boyd plays Storm. Adam Driver rounds out the group as the villain Mister Sinister. Meanwhile, Samara Weaving, Kit Connor, and Sadie Sink were already known as Emma Frost, Cyclops, and Jean Grey. Jake Schreier directs, and the film arrives May 5, 2028. Chris calls the lineup spot-on casting. He singles out Weaving as a perfect match for the comics, and he points out that Sink already appeared as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Navarrette is the least established name, coming off a breakout role in an indie horror film. Boyd, meanwhile, was the name he knew least, with what he believes is a Broadway background. Above all, Chris hopes Marvel does the team justice, and he recommends the animated revival X-Men ’97 on Disney+ as the best place to start. Frozen 3 Gets a Date and a Chaotic Reveal Frozen 3 lands November 24, 2027. That is the Wednesday of Thanksgiving week, the same slot the first two films used. The story centers on Anna and Kristoff’s wedding, which a new villain, an evil Ice Queen, disrupts. Jennifer Lee returns to direct with Trent Correy, and the full voice cast is back. However, the reveal itself fell apart. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel performed a darker arrangement of “Frozen Heart.” Meanwhile, the audio failed, the video failed, and a set of doors never opened. Menzel asked the crowd whether they should try it again, and Bell simply narrated everything that was supposed to happen. Afterward, Josh Gad sang “Oooh, Samantha,” a new love song for Olaf. Chris is here for it, since Olaf is one of the franchise’s best comic characters. Pixar, Disney Animation, and the Rest of Friday Night Pixar chief Pete Docter laid out a packed slate. Incredibles 3 hits summer 2028 and follows Violet and Dash sneaking out at night to fight crime. Chris hopes that finally shows a grown-up Jack-Jack. Coco 2 follows in November 2029 with Benjamin Bratt returning as Ernesto de la Cruz. That has fans puzzling over how a villain already in the Land of the Dead comes back. Additionally, Pixar showed an original called Ghost Market and a Venice-set cat film called Gatto. On the Disney Animation side, Zootopia 3 is confirmed. The live-action Tangled arrives March 31, 2028 with Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel. Chris considers that casting perfect after her turn in Agatha All Along. A live-action Lilo & Stitch sequel, a new Simpsons movie, a Bluey movie, and a Kingdom Hearts anime series round out the list. For Star Wars fans, Ahsoka returns January 20, 2027. Chris also offers a hot take: he prefers Rogue One to the entire sequel trilogy. Consequently, he welcomes original stories like Ryan Gosling’s upcoming Starfighter. Adam Driver Is Mister Sinister Driver appeared by video rather than in person. He told the crowd that he and Kevin Feige had talked for years about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then he announced he would play Magneto. After a long pause, he corrected himself to Nathaniel Milbury, which is Mister Sinister’s human alias. The gag landed because fans had floated Driver for Magneto for years. For anyone new to the comics, Chris explains that Mister Sinister is a geneticist obsessed with mutant DNA, a manipulator rather than a brawler. The cast met backstage only minutes earlier, so Chris is curious how their chemistry develops. Notably, Christopher Abbott previously worked with Driver on HBO’s Girls. The script comes from Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo, two prestige-television names that have Chris excited. Why the X-Men Took Thirty Years to Reach the MCU A business story underlies the casting. In the 1990s, a financially struggling Marvel sold film rights to raise cash. Fox ended up with the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, and Sony took Spider-Man. As a result, Marvel Studios built its connected universe from 2008 onward without some of its most famous characters. The Hugh Jackman era of X-Men films belonged to Fox, with a separate continuity and no crossovers. That changed in 2019, when Disney closed its $71 billion purchase of 21st Century Fox’s film and television studio. Most coverage framed the deal as a streaming play, but it also brought the X-Men home. Chris sums it up neatly: Disney signed the paperwork in 2019, cast the film in 2026, and audiences see it in 2028. Ryan Gosling’s Starfighter, Ghost Rider, and VisionQuest Lucasfilm dated Star Wars: Starfighter for May 28, 2027. Gosling plays Kade Auberon, a pilot from the wrong side of the galaxy tied to the fastest starfighter ever built. Before he walked out, Disney played clips of him as a kid on The Mickey Mouse Club. Gosling said the company changed his life then and is changing it again now. He is also playing Ghost Rider in the Marvel universe. That thrills Chris, since Nicolas Cage last carried the character on the big screen. Meanwhile, the Disney+ series VisionQuest arrives October 14. Paul Bettany returns as Vision and James Spader as Ultron, and the trailer drops the two androids into oddly mundane human situations. Bettany joked that Vision has “rather inconveniently died several times.” Chris agrees the character has been through the wringer since WandaVision. The Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18, with Joe and Anthony Russo directing. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell introduced the new footage. It offers the clearest look yet at Downey as Doctor Doom, who fights off Thor and takes his hammer. Evans appears as Captain America holding a baby, and Ian McKellen shows up as a haggard, long-haired Magneto. One quieter shot has Doom staring at a portrait of a lost wife and child. That frames him as a grieving avenger rather than a world-ender. He also commands an army of comic-accurate Sentinels. The cast pulls from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the legacy Fox X-Men, including Patrick Stewart. Hugh Jackman also appeared on screen to say he is willing to return as Wolverine, though that was not a confirmation. Chris, a self-described Marvel nerd, closes with a theory. He suspects the MCU’s Tony Stark was actually Victor von Doom, adopted by the Starks, which would explain the Downey casting. He also predicts the Fox-era X-Men die off in this film and that Thor may be the major casualty. If it happens, he wants credit for calling it. Disney Parks Around the World Saturday’s Disney Experiences showcase covered parks, resorts, and cruise ships, with Neil Patrick Harris hosting. Hong Kong Disneyland gets an Avengers pavilion that reshapes its Stark Expo skyline. Shanghai Disneyland is building the first land devoted entirely to Spider-Man, complete with a new coaster. Since Spider-Man is his favorite hero, Chris hopes to visit once it opens. Closer to home, Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure is doubling in size with two rides opening in 2028. Avengers: Infinity Defense brings back Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, and Downey, while Stark Flight Lab adds Brie Larson. A Coco boat ride into the Land of the Dead is also coming, with no height requirement. Chris admits he prefers California Adventure to Disneyland because the rides are better. Overseas, Disneyland Paris will retire its Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain overlay at the end of 2027 and restore the original Jules Verne theme. Paris also gets the first ride ever based on The Lion King. Tokyo Disneyland adds Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, the first Wreck-It Ralph ride, plus a Space Mountain launch sequence designed with YouTuber Mark Rober. Finally, Disney Cruise Line announced three more ships, including the Disney Believe in 2027 and an entirely new class in 2029. Back in Anaheim, Tomorrowland is getting reimagined, which Chris welcomes because the land badly needs an update. The Magic Happens parade and the Remember Dreams Come True fireworks are both returning. For the tech crowd, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run now has a Fortnite crossover, where in-game missions unlock content on the real ride. Every New Walt Disney World Ride and Land Chris ranks the Florida parks Hollywood Studios first, then Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom leads the announcements with Villains Land, now the official name. It features a Maleficent coaster through an enchanted briar and a boat ride through the Evil Queen’s catacombs. Reporting puts its scale near Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and Glenn Close appeared in character as Cruella to announce it. Piston Peak, the Cars area replacing Tom Sawyer Island, adds two more rides, though their exact names remain unsettled. Additionally, the Carousel of Progress gets new scenes and a recast. Jamie Lee Curtis and Bryan Cranston will voice Mom and Dad starting late spring 2027. Chris, invoking Heisenberg, calls Cranston the GOAT. At Animal Kingdom, the Indiana Jones ride now has a name: Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. It tells an original 1950 story inside a Maya temple, and Harrison Ford personally served as the physical model for the animatronic. Nearby, the Tropical Americas land brings Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, with more than fifty animal animatronics and no height requirement. Then comes the fix park regulars have wanted for years. The Expedition Everest yeti broke soon after the ride opened. Rather than fix it, Disney lit it with a strobe for over a decade, earning the nickname disco yeti. Now it is being repaired and returned to full motion. Chris rates Everest among his top five rides anywhere, and he suggests riding it before the fix so you can compare. Over at Epcot, Spaceship Earth gets its first major story rewrite in nearly twenty years, shifting from communication history to human connection. Dreamfinder also returns to Journey Into Imagination, and Disney Experiences chairman Thomas Mazloum introduced that news with two words: “we heard you.” Mazloum added that Disney has more projects underway than at any point in its history. After this rundown, Chris believes him. Monsters Inc Land Opens in 2027 Monstropolis begins opening at Hollywood Studios in early 2027, but in stages. The headline door coaster will not be ready on day one. It is the first suspended coaster in any Disney park. It also uses Disney’s first vertical lift, hauling riders about forty feet straight up before launching them into the door vault. Instead, the land opens with the Glob Theater’s “Welcome to Monstropolis” show and Harryhausen’s, a working sushi restaurant lifted from the first film. The stage show features an original song by Randy Newman, his first ever written for a theme park attraction. Chris also notes that the restaurant name honors stop-motion legend Ray Harryhausen. Wrapping up, Chris names the X-Men casting and the Doomsday trailer as his favorite moments of the weekend. He hopes to cover more movie news on future shows, and he plugs Dune: Part Three, which also opens December 18. Chris signs off with the usual mentions: GNC Insider at geeknewscentral.com/insider, email at geeknews@gmail.com, the newsletter, and modern podcast apps at podcastapps.com. He also thanks GoDaddy for over twenty years of support. The post Huge Announcements From D23!! #1873 appeared first on Geek News Central.

Marvel's Midnight Universe is getting ready to open its doors, and this week we're going straight to two of the writers helping build it. Benjamin Percy and Phillip Kennedy Johnson join the AIPT Comics Podcast for an extended conversation about Midnight Fantastic Four and Midnight Spider-Man, two of the three series launching Marvel's new horror-infused universe on October 7. Along with Jonathan Hickman on Midnight X-Men, Percy and Johnson are helping to establish a world in which familiar Marvel characters are being rebuilt through body horror, cosmic terror, and some seriously disturbing new origins. Percy digs into the Lovecraftian nightmare behind his Fantastic Four, why their familiar powers are closer to curses, the influence of California's strange scientific and occult history, and just how grotesque Reed Richards' elasticity can become. Johnson takes us inside his radically different Peter Parker, the role Oscorp plays in his transformation, ScieTronc's horrifying designs, and why calling this version of Peter "Man-Spider" barely scratches the surface. The conversation also gets into the larger Midnight Universe, including how Percy, Johnson, and Hickman are coordinating their books, how carefully they're approaching other Marvel characters, plans for the universe to eventually expand, and yes, whether Hickman's beloved data pages are coming along for the ride. What was the first thing each of you identified in the classic Fantastic Four and Spider-Man origins that could become genuinely frightening in the Midnight Universe? Since this is horror, are you inverting who is the hero? I.e. is Spider-Man the villain and hsi rogues the bad guys, same for FF, or is that giving too much away? Ben, the Fantastic Four have always been explorers pushing into the unknown, but here that curiosity seems potentially catastrophic. How much of Midnight Fantastic Four is about Reed Richards being unable to leave certain doors unopened, even when every instinct should tell him to stop? Phillip, you've described wanting Peter Parker's transformation to feel like something conceived by H.R. Giger and directed by David Cronenberg. Once Peter becomes this grotesque spider hybrid, how do you preserve the humanity and responsibility that make him recognizably Spider-Man? Both books seem fascinated with science going somewhere it absolutely should not go. How differently do Reed and Peter respond to the realization that scientific progress has created something horrifying, and do you see them as cautionary reflections of each other? The solicit for Midnight Fantastic Four #2 mentions revisiting and redefining the perils of the atomic age. Ben, what interested you about connecting the Fantastic Four to that particular period of scientific optimism, anxiety, and destruction? Phillip, Oscorp isn't simply responsible for Peter's transformation. They're apparently using what they learn from him to create more human-animal hybrids. Does that give this version of Spider-Man a different relationship with his rogues gallery, especially characters like the Lizard and Doctor Octopus? Kev Walker and ScieTronc have incredibly distinct visual identities. Were there moments when their designs or pages came back and actually changed your understanding of this universe, or pushed the horror further than what you'd originally scripted? Horror can become less frightening once readers understand its rules. With both of you planning potentially very long runs, how do you keep the Midnight Universe mysterious and unsettling after readers have spent 20, 30, or even 50 issues living inside it? I know your books haven't launched just yet, but it's hard not to be excited for your books to somehow connect, given Spidey and the FF are thoroughly linked in the 616. Have you dreamed up crossovers yet? Finally, the important Midnight Universe question: if Midnight Spider-Man and the Midnight Fantastic Four were trapped together in a horror movie, who dies first, who somehow survives, and who makes the catastrophically bad decision to say, “Let's split up”?

The MCU X-MEN cast is here: Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm & Adam Driver as Mister Sinister. Naturally, everyone is being extremely calm and reasonable about it. We also dig into the AVENGERS DOOMSDAY news of David Harbour confirming Tony Stark?! Dave Bautista taking over as KRATOS in Amazon's GOD OF WAR series, and the LANTERNS fallout surrounding Hal Jordan's Death Scene — because apparently fandom needed a few more things to argue about this week. Plus: Shawn Levy & Ryan Gosling's GHOST RIDER coming together almost immediately while BLADE remains trapped somewhere in the Quantum Realm of development, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II speaking out about WONDER MAN, and the bigger question tying all of this together: Marvel. Andy and Evan dive into the rich tapestry of Process Theology as it intersects with the themes of the new flick, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day." Right off the bat, they highlight how the film explores the importance of relationships and community, illustrating that our identities are shaped by our connections with others. As they unpack the film, they delve into Spider-Man's journey of navigating isolation and the healing power of companionship, paralleling it with elements of Process Theology. Evan shares his personal reflections on how this perspective resonates with his own experiences, while Andy adds his insights on the film's narrative and character arcs. With a blend of thoughtful analysis and light-hearted banter, they invite listeners to consider how the essence of being is intricately linked to the web of relationships that define us all. Andy Walsh and Evan Garcia dive into the vibrant world of Marvel's latest offering, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," where they explore the intricacies of Process Theology and its thematic resonance with the film's narrative. The conversation kicks off with Andy expressing his excitement over the film, commenting on its unique portrayal of Spider-Man as a more mature character navigating the complexities of adulthood and heroism. Evan, on the other hand, shares a conflicting sentiment, admitting that while he finds much to appreciate in the film, he also grapples with a sense of boredom during his multiple viewings. Their banter captures the tension between personal enjoyment and critical analysis, making for a compelling discussion. As the two delve deeper, they examine how Spider-Man's journey reflects the core tenets of Process Theology, particularly the idea that growth and change are fundamental to existence. They connect this thematic element to the film's portrayal of relationships and community, suggesting that the film emphasizes the importance of interpersonal connections in shaping one's identity and purpose. The duo also touches on the various cameos, the integration of X-Men lore, and the implications of Peter Parker's technological advancements, leading to a rich dialogue about the moral complexities inherent in superhero narratives. Their insights reveal that beneath the surface of comic book action lies a profound exploration of what it means to be human in a world of constant change and relational dynamics. In the lighthearted yet thought-provoking style characteristic of Systematic Geekology, Andy and Evan wrap up their discussion by engaging with listener questions, inviting feedback, and hinting at future episodes. The episode not only entertains but also encourages listeners to reflect on their own relationships and the narratives that shape their lives, making it a must-listen for both casual fans and long-time followers of the superhero genre.Takeaways:In this episode, Andy and Evan dive deep into how Process Theology relates to Spider-Man's journey of self-discovery and community, which is a fresh take on superhero narratives. The film 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' explores themes of isolation and connection, showing how relationships shape our identities through the lens of Process Theology.Evan shares his love-hate relationship with the film, admitting that despite being bored on repeated viewings, he still appreciates its deeper themes and character arcs.Andy highlights the clever use of music in the film, particularly how the Spider-Man theme evolves to reflect Peter Parker's journey from isolation to connection with others. The conversation touches on how the film integrates Jean Grey into the Spider-Man universe, revealing how well-crafted character arcs can resonate with fans of both franchises. They conclude by discussing the importance of storytelling in comics and films, emphasizing how characters grow through their relationships rather than existing in a vacuum..Be sure to check out our merch, find extra content, and become an official member of Systematic Geekology on our website:https://systematic-geekology-shop.fourthwall.com/.Listen to our other Marvel episodes:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/fb519d38-2d9b-4f82-b041-81b81613543c.Listen to all of our episodes with Andy:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/c86f7a67-357b-4324-bf95-e42cedb9932a.Check out other episodes with Evan:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/db75189a-04f3-4129-9a5d-ade41cf863b5Mentioned in this episode:Systematic GeekologyOur show focuses around our favorite fandoms that we discuss from a Christian perspective. Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes. At D23 last week, Disney's fan event showcasing much of their upcoming film and tv projects, we were at last treated to a full trailer for VisionQuest, which will debut October 14 on Disney+. The third and final installment of the trilogy that includes WandaVision and Agatha All Along, VisionQuest looks like it will send us on a trippy ride with The Vision, played by Paul Bettany. Those of us angsting for Avengers: Doomsday story crumbs were also treated with a special look presented for the December blockbuster. The shorter trailer, which was first shown at San Diego Comic Con, starts with dialogue from Sue Storm, indicating our MCU Fantastic Four team is connected to Robert Downey, Jr.'s Victor von Doom. One of the most anticipated announcements in MCU history took place at D23, when Marvel Studios exec Kevin Feige announced the cast of the upcoming X-Men film. The cast includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver will be playing the villainous Mr. Sinister. The movie will be released on May 5, 2028 nearly 10 years after the Disney acquisition of Fox Studios and will kick off the three MCU movies coming out in 2028. The other big nerd-dom announcement at D23 was the release of a first trailer for Ahsoka season 2, which will premiere on January 20, 2027, on Disney+. Lars Mikkelson's Thrawn returns as the big bad for the Rebel Alliance, while in a galaxy truly far, far, away, Ahsoka and Sabine battle themselves and mystic threats while coming face to face with what it means to be a Jedi. This look at the show may clue us in as to why the debut date got pushed to next year. Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling were also at D23 where a clip from Star Wars: Starfighter was shown, but has not yet been released publicly.Peacock has released the first trailer for season 2 of The Office spin off The Paper. The full season drops on September 9. At D23, Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed to Deadline that Johnny Depp is in early talks to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow in an upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean reboot. Sources also emphasize that Depp will serve as a side character, not a central character in the upcoming film. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has passed the $2 billion dollar mark after just 3 weeks in theaters, becoming the eighth film in history to hit the benchmark. The film is the second fastest to hit this mark only behind Avengers: Endgame. At D23, Disney offered up the first look at the live action adaptation of Tangled, which stars Teagan Croft, Milo Manheim, and Kathryn Hahn. The studio also announced a release date of March 31, 2028. Hayden Panettiere, known for her roles on shows such as Heroes and Nashville has died at the age of 36. At D23, Pixar showed off some very early concept art for Incredibles 3 and Coco 2. Incredibles 3 will debut on June 16, 2028 and Coco 2 is currently set for a November 2029 release. HBO has announced a season 2 renewal for It: Welcome to Derry, the It prequel series from Warner Bros. Television and executive producers Andy and Barbara Muschietti. At D23, Disney showed some early images of the live action Lilo & Stitch 2, which currently has a release date of May 28, 2028.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Editors – Nat Sanders, ACE; Harry Yoon, ACE and Gina Sansom Spider-Man: Brand New Day editors Nat Sanders, ACE, Harry Yoon, ACE and Gina Sansom join The Rough Cut to discuss helping director Destin Daniel Cretton take Peter Parker into a deeper, more grounded chapter of his story. Nat and Gina began the film together during production, with Harry joining them for the director's cut, bringing together three editors who had each previously collaborated with Destin on projects ranging from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings to Wonder Man. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day finds Peter Parker (Tom Holland) fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that no longer remembers him. As Peter watches MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) continue their lives without him, the pressure of his isolation begins to trigger a transformation he may not be able to control. At the same time, a new threat emerges in New York, drawing Peter into a conflict that also brings him together with Frank Castle / The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), Bruce Banner / Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Jean Grey (Sadie Sink). The film also stars Tramell Tillman and Michael Mando. For Nat, Brand New Day continues a long creative relationship with Cretton that stretches back to Short Term 12 and includes The Glass Castle, Just Mercy and Shang-Chi. Harry previously worked with Cretton and Nat on Shang-Chi, while Gina came to the film following collaborations with Cretton on American Born Chinese and Wonder Man. Brand New Day also marks Gina's first feature as an editor. In our interview, Nat, Harry and Gina discuss dividing the film between three editors, working in close proximity to production at Pinewood Studios, shaping Peter Parker's darker and more emotionally complex story, and using previews to test radically different versions of the film. They also talk about finding the right balance between practical action and visual effects, managing the reveal and evolution of Jean Grey, preserving Peter's emotional point of view in his scenes with MJ and Ned, and collaborating with composer Michael Giacchino as the film developed through post. NAT SANDERS, ACE Nat Sanders, ACE is an Academy Award-nominated editor whose credits include Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk, Short Term 12, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, The Glass Castle and Just Mercy. A longtime collaborator of director Destin Daniel Cretton, Nat has worked with him from independent character dramas through large-scale studio filmmaking. Nat received an Academy Award nomination alongside Joi McMillon for editing Moonlight and has twice won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Editing. HARRY YOON, ACE Harry Yoon, ACE is an editor whose feature credits include Minari, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Thunderbolts*, The Fire Inside, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, First Man and Detroit. Harry's work spans intimate character dramas and large-scale action films, with a particular focus on maintaining performance and emotional point of view within complex visual storytelling. Spider-Man: Brand New Day reunites him with Destin Daniel Cretton and Nat Sanders following their work together on Shang-Chi. GINA SANSOM Gina Sansom is an Emmy-nominated editor whose television credits include Wonder Man, Our Flag Means Death, American Born Chinese, Reservation Dogs, Silicon Valley, Better Things, Love and Horace and Pete. 402 Avengers Doomsday New X-Men Lanterns Disney Villains LandDoom Scrolling IntroThe Foos are back after nearly a month away, and the backyard project is finally done — although Joe's arm is still messed up and Steph is recovering from a badly sprained ankle courtesy of Steph Kwon Do. They recap Anthony Jeselnik at the Ontario Improv and break down the 5 weirdos you always meet at a comedy club: the super fan, the punchline repeater, the wannabe opening act, the person terrified of crowd work, and the offended partner who suddenly turns date night into couples therapy. They also react to Motown legend Martha Reeves' viral national anthem performance and debate how much the lack of stage monitors, weather, backup vocals, and being 85 years old should factor into the criticism.Geeking Out starts with the new Avengers: Doomsday footage, including Doctor Doom facing off with the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men — plus a ridiculous moment involving Thor's Stormbreaker. The Foos get into Robert Downey Jr. as Doom, multiverse theories, and why Doom needs to be more than evil Tony Stark.Marvel also reveals its new X-Men lineup, with Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Indy Navarretti as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister. Joe and Steph agree that starting with Mr. Sinister instead of immediately going back to Magneto is the smarter move.Star Wars: Starfighter brings Ryan Gosling into a new corner of the galaxy, while DC's Lanterns goes full True Detective with Hal Jordan and John Stewart investigating an alien-connected murder. Then Disney gets sinister with a massive Villains Land featuring Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Ursula, Scar, Jafar, Hades, Cruella, and more.Steph also previews the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art and what comes with their membership before their upcoming visit. Here's What I Would Do brings two dilemmas: Andrea from La Habra takes an ancestry DNA test and accidentally discovers a 28-year-old half-sister her married father apparently never told the family about. Then Trevor from Escondido buys a storage unit and finds decades of family memories, military letters, photos, and a Purple Heart — forcing him to decide whether legally owning something means it's morally his to keep.ChaptersDoom Scrolling IntroBackyard finished + injuries5 Weirdos at a Comedy ClubAnthony Jeselnik recapMartha Reeves national anthemAvengers Doomsday trailer + Doctor DoomMarvel reveals the new X-MenAdam Driver as Mr. SinisterStar Wars Starfighter Ryan GoslingLanterns goes True DetectiveDisney Villains LandLucas Museum of Narrative ArtHere's What I Would Do Ancestry DNA surprise sisterHere's What I Would Do Storage unit Purple Heart dilemmaKing of the Hill Season 2Outro + Doom Scrolling OutroAvengers Doomsday, Doctor Doom, Robert Downey Jr, new X-Men MCU, Mr Sinister, Adam Driver, Star Wars Starfighter, Ryan Gosling, Lanterns DC, Green Lantern, Disney Villains Land, Lucas Museum, Anthony Jeselnik, comedy club etiquette, ancestry DNA surprise, storage unit auction, King of the Hill

Tony, Jaime, and Vance dive headfirst into a FULL SPOILER discussion of *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, breaking down why this might be their favorite Spidey yet, the darker story, the emotional gut punches, and the surprisingly hilarious Spider-Man/Punisher bromance. We debate Peter's questionable life choices, his mutant-suppressing inhibitor, Jean Grey's mysterious powers, and whether Spider-Man's famous “do the right thing” instincts finally took a vacation. Then things get REALLY nerdy as the crew investigates MJ and Ned's missing memories, Jean Grey's possible role in restoring them, and what that final handshake could mean for the future of the MCU. Send us Fan MailSpider-Man is supposed to be the friendly neighborhood guy, so why does his newest movie feel like Marvel's biggest piece on the chessboard? We come at this one as fans who still want the comic book itch scratched, but we also can't ignore the pattern: the MCU keeps loading Spider-Man up with extra “important” characters and plot threads so it can steer everything toward Doomsday. We talk through what works and what doesn't, from the fun bits with Punisher to the odd use of Hulk, and the way Peter Parker's identity reset still leaves him painfully lonely. Then we get into the real headline: mutants. Jean Grey showing up as a major force is exciting, and it finally makes the X-Men conversation feel real inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But it also raises the awkward questions Marvel can't dodge forever: where were mutants, and where are all the other New York heroes when a city scale disaster hits? From there we zoom out into the business and craft of superhero movies. We debate franchise fatigue, nostalgia casting, and why “fix it in post” plus nonstop CGI crunch can make these huge movies feel oddly weightless. We also react to the bigger Disney slate, including Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider, Star Wars updates like Ahsoka Season 2, and the constant flood of sequels, remakes, and new shows. We end with what we're playing and what we're excited to watch next.If you've been wondering whether Marvel still knows how to tell a standalone story, you'll have opinions here. Subscribe, share this with a friend who loves Spider-Man, and leave a review with your take: are you still all in on the MCU, or ready for something new?Support the show

The fourth installment in Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios' Spider-Man series is finally here, and of course, we're all over it. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has swung into theaters as both a critical and box-office smash, raking in a billion dollars in just six days and boasting a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes. On the pod, we nerd out over all the comic book goodness packed into the movie, including the cameos from Tarantula, Tombstone, and Ramrod. We also dig into the film's surprising lack of a true central villain, the controversial introduction of Jean Grey into the MCU, played by Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), and debate whether this is Tom Holland's most evolved performance yet as Peter Parker—and Spider-Man. Then we build a quick Spider-Man Hall of Fame before tackling the question on everyone's mind: Are movies back?

Message Dan and MikeWe finally sit down to unpack Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth installment in Tom Holland's run as Peter Parker and the first Spidey film from director Destin Daniel Cretton. Picking up four years after No Way Home's spell erased Peter from the world's memory, this is a noticeably darker, more isolated take on the character — Aunt May is gone, his friendships with MJ and Ned are gone, and the arachnid side of his DNA is starting to take over. We dig into how that trauma-driven tone works, and where it doesn't.One of us walks away calling this the weakest of the Tom Holland Spider-Man films, and we're honest about why: a story that feels overcrowded with characters, some shaky CGI work on the Scorpion, and a villain problem that never quite resolves who we're actually supposed to be rooting against. We also talk through the returning cast — Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, Florence Pugh — plus the newer additions, including Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle, Tramell Tillman's William Mesker, Naomi Watts voicing E.D.I.T.H., and a genuinely strong turn from Sadie Sink as Jean Grey that surprised us both.Along the way we get into the film's stunt work and practical martial arts sequences, the choice to make Peter's webs organic again as a nod to Tobey Maguire's era, and what it means that this film is now closing in on two billion dollars worldwide and threatening box office records held by Avengers: Endgame and Titanic. We also share (in maybe too much detail) the theater experience that colored one of our first viewings, because full transparency matters around here.Whether you loved Brand New Day or walked out with the same reservations we did, we want to hear it. And with Avengers: Doomsday looming and a fifth Spider-Man almost certainly on the way, we start speculating about where this saga goes next.If you're not already following along, you can find us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and everywhere else podcasts live, and subscribing to the YouTube channel helps a lot more than you'd think.Support the showOh Brother Podcast:Support the Show! Then a full spoiler conversation on Spider-Man: Brand New Day covering Sadie Sink's Jean Grey and the road to Dark Phoenix, the Hulk and the Punisher as mirrors for where Peter Parker could end up, the ending that made a handshake hit harder than a kiss, and whether Marvel has its footing back going into Doomsday, Secret Wars, and X-Men. Send it in. We read listener questions and topic suggestions on air. Key Takeaways Rhaenyra spent three seasons trying to be her father and the finale is the moment she stops. Frank frames it as her Anakin-to-Vader turn, right down to killing the realm's holy man and walking back out to claim she is the savior. Episode 7 and the return of Sunfyre lands as the season's biggest swing. Jonathan calls it a genuine plot twist with no setup, and it resets who is actually holding power going into Season 4. Helaena's knitting was spoiling the show in plain sight. Her tapestry lays out everything she has seen, and nobody in the story looks at it until it is too late. Both Frank and Jonathan score Season 3 an eight, with the caveat that Episodes 4 through 6 drag badly. Thomas, who bailed on the season early, gets talked into going back and finishing it. Spider-Man: Brand New Day works as a character study more than a clean three-act movie. The guys argue it is structurally strange on purpose, closer to picking up a random issue mid-run than a typical MCU installment. Jean Grey's power set is used in a much more specific and much darker way than expected, which the guys read as deliberate setup for Professor X's mental blocks and the eventual Dark Phoenix story. Quotes "She's now in her Darth Vader era." (Frank) "She was never meant to actually sit on the Iron Throne. She was always meant to capture it." (Frank) "The dragon fire ripping through a city is going to kill the good and the bad alike. It's not justice. It's just suffering." (Jonathan) "So many parts of this shouldn't work. But it does." (Thomas, on Spider-Man: Brand New Day) "I can't believe how much relief I suddenly felt from a damn handshake." Barry Irving returns to The Analysis to break down Spider-Man: Brand New Day and ask the big question: did Marvel actually deliver the definitive Tom Holland Spider-Man movie—or did the MCU get in its own way? Bob and Barry dig into Peter Parker's new life of loneliness and isolation, why the quieter street-level Spider-Man moments work better than the massive action sequences, and whether Brand New Day wastes its clean slate by turning into an X-Men setup halfway through. They debate Jean Grey's role as the film's antagonist, Jon Bernthal's Punisher, the return of Ned and MJ, Hulk's strange regression, Peter's darker turn, and why Spider-Man's actual rogues gallery continues to sit on the sidelines. Plus, Barry breaks down that mysterious post-credit scene and what it could mean for Doomsday, Secret Wars, Battleworld, and the possible return of all three live-action Spider-Men. Is Marvel finally building momentum again? Is superhero fatigue actually just mediocre-movie fatigue? And after a summer of Spider-Man, The Odyssey, Project Hail Mary and more, have we finally reached the most important conclusion of all? Movies are back, baby.
