Matt and Mark catch up with Ashley to discuss her recent departure from The Spirits Group and her exciting new chapter as an independent blending consultant, while continuing her role as Master Blender for The Blending House. Ashley shares what this transition means for her career, the opportunities it creates, and why she's more excited than ever about the future of whiskey. The conversation then turns to one of the most anticipated bourbon releases of the year—Jacob Spears Bourbon. Named in honor of one of Kentucky's earliest distillers, the whiskey was distilled by Bourbon Hall of Famer Jim Rutledge and blended by Ashley. Matt and Mark even have the unique opportunity to taste and weigh in on two different small batch blend variations before discussing the final direction of the brand, along with a standout single barrel expression. Ashley also previews the upcoming Grand Slam Bourbon Fest, taking place August 27 at League Stadium in Huntingburg, Indiana, where bourbon and baseball come together to celebrate America's 250th Anniversary with an unforgettable day of great whiskey, great history, and great fun. What happens when you swap traditional yellow corn for a rare, deep-pigmented heirloom grain? You get one of the most unique, grain-forward releases in the history of the Bourbon Lens.In this episode, we review the newly unveiled Woodford Reserve Distillery Series: Red Corn Bourbon. Clocking in at 90.4 proof and packaged in their collectible 375ml format ($64.99 MSRP), this limited edition showcases a massive push into agricultural innovation led by Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall. The story behind this whiskey is a true testament to Kentucky terroir and pure resilience. The heirloom red corn was grown on a local farm directly adjacent to the historic distillery in Versailles, Kentucky. However, during the growing season several years ago, a massive summer storm swept through Woodford County, flattening and destroying a significant portion of the stalks. The resulting low yield means the remaining harvest—and the liquid inside this bottle—is exceptionally rare.Jake breaks down how this deep-pigmented heirloom corn shifts the flavor wheel completely away from standard Woodford sweetness into a bolder, softer, and highly savory presentation. We dive into a rich nosh of dark chocolate, spiced cherry, and green apple, followed by a warm palate medley of baking spices, tarts custard, and sun tea. Episode 374: A Roadmap to Nonprofit Excellence: What Most Leaders Miss (Lauren Deiorio)Episode SummaryMost nonprofit leaders don't fail because of mission. They get stuck running one part of the operation well while neglecting the rest, often because they rose through programming and never learned the business of running an organization. In this episode, Lauren Deiorio, President & CEO of the Community Foundation for Ocala/Marion County, shares the Roadmap to Success, a practical tool she helped build that breaks nonprofit excellence into nine “destinations”: governance, HR, financial management, fundraising, communications, technology, strategic collaborations, community empowerment, and grant strategy. Drawing on a finance and public accounting background and nine years leading her foundation, Lauren explains why treating your nonprofit like a business, with engaged boards, strong internal controls, diversified revenue, and clear communications, is what earns donor confidence. She offers a concrete way to put the roadmap to work as a self-assessment, pairing a staff member with a board member on each destination throughout the year. Listeners will walk away with a mental checklist for diagnosing where their organization is strong, where it's vulnerable, and exactly where to start.About LaurenLauren Deiorio is President & CEO of the Community Foundation for Ocala/Marion County, where she leads a nonprofit resource center dedicated to helping local organizations grow stronger and run more like a business. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Lauren earned a degree in finance and spent years in public accounting before moving into the philanthropic sector, first as the fund development director for her local school district and then, for the past nine years, at the helm of the Community Foundation. A self-described numbers person who joined her local public relations association to sharpen her communications skills, she co-created the foundation's Roadmap to Success, now in its second edition with an accompanying workbook nonprofits across the region use as a self-study guide. Based near Orlando, she's a fan of common-sense customer service, and has led her own staff through a book study on the subject.ResourcesConnect with Lauren: LinkedIn | lauren@ocalafoundation.orgCommunity Foundation for Ocala/Marion County: ocalafoundation.orgRoadmap to Success: the nine-destination nonprofit handbook and workbook (order at ocalafoundation.org)Book recommendation: The Customer Rules by Lee CockrellAlso mentioned: Building a StoryBrand by Donald MillerFollow Your Path to Nonprofit Leadership, and please leave a review!Learn more about the leadership resources at Armstrong McGuire: ArmstrongMcGuire.com

In this episode, Patrick Hogarty fills in for Joe. The radical Left's mask is completely off, and the Democratic Party has officially surrendered to the socialist fringe. Patrick is tearing down the curtain on the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) to expose their true, ultimate endgame: a calculated, step-by-step march straight toward communism. From the weaponization of our public schools and the "useful idiots" pushing cultural division, to jaw-dropping handouts like New Jersey fueling millions into legal fees for illegal immigrants, we are tracing the exact blueprint being used to bankrupt our economy and destroy American sovereignty. But this infiltration doesn't stop at the border or the ballot box—it's inside your kid's classroom. Patrick is diving deep into the terrifying reality of modern indoctrination, including a Manhattan elementary school that forced fifth graders to act out a twisted skit about being shot by police. This isn't education; it's a deliberate, top-down attempt to sow institutional distrust and brainwash the next generation into despising their own country. We look at how everyday people are being manipulated to engineer chaos and dismantle the traditional family from the inside out.The ultimate consequence of this manufactured socialist utopia? A completely broken, upside-down justice system where criminals are coddled and the innocent are punished. Patrick is exposing a staggering case out of Chicago where a monster with 72 prior arrests was left free to set a woman on fire, contrasted against a Kentucky dad who faced decades in prison just for protecting his 11-year-old daughter from a predator. The system is failing us, society is hitting a boiling point, and tonight, we are looking at what happens when everyday Americans finally say enough is enough.

Welcome back to The Bourbon Road, Episode 501! Todd and Jim are joined in the Bourbon Road Bar — aka Tim's Basement — by special guest Dan Mattingly, a Roadie since 2020, Frankfurt Bourbon Society board member, and all-around bourbon enthusiast. The occasion calls for glasses raised to the 250th anniversary of America, a theme that drives most of tonight's tasting lineup, plus one very fun outlier to kick things off. On the Tasting Mat: - Dragon Con Bourbon by Old Fourth Distillery (40th Anniversary Edition): A 94-proof high-rye bourbon (75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley) aged 4–6 years, released in collaboration with Atlanta's iconic Dragon Con convention. Limited to 3,700 bottles at $39.99. The nose opens with overripe fruit — banana, apple, and strawberry — while the palate delivers strawberry cream, a cool refreshing wash, and a gentle spice on the tail. A crushable, fruit-forward summer sipper that punches well above its price. *(00:02:51)* - 15 Stars Kentucky County Six-Year Straight Bourbon (250th Anniversary): A blend of two Kentucky straight bourbons, each aged a minimum of six years, bottled at 90 proof and retailing for $38. Named in honor of the historic 1776 Kentucky County of Virginia's western frontier. The nose is light and delicate — sugar cookie icing, poached pear, and faint florality. The palate is similarly airy, with a brief but pleasant finish of light molasses and white fruit. A well-priced, accessible pour designed for a broad audience. *(00:11:50)* - 15 Stars Kentucky County 12-Year American Whiskey (250th Anniversary): At 90 proof and $58, this expression blends Kentucky straight bourbon with an American whiskey distilled from a bourbon mashbill — aged seven years in second-use oak, then an additional five years in new charred oak. The nose carries more depth than its six-year sibling, with a hint of funk and gentle sweetness. The palate is soft and full-bodied, offering pear, white pepper spice, and a smooth finish with cotton candy sweetness and a light smokiness. A step up in complexity and a solid value for a 12-year expression. *(00:17:00)* - Copper & Cask Wave That Flag Nine-Year Double Oak Bourbon (250th Anniversary): This 117-proof, nine-year straight bourbon undergoes a secondary finish in a custom American oak wave-stave char (#1 char) barrel. Only 3,000 bottles were produced, retailing for $74.99. On the nose: apple cinnamon spice and rich sweetness. The palate is full-mouth and layered — cinnamon roll spice, pecan swirl sweetness, black raspberry, dark chocolate, and a savory leather finish with hints of evergreen cedar. A dollar from every bottle supports the Arcadia Center veteran farmer training program. *(00:31:30)* - Lost Lantern United States of Bourbon (Cask Strength, 250th Anniversary): The first-ever blend of straight bourbon whiskeys sourced from all 50 states — 50 distilleries, components ranging from 2 to 10 years old, bottled at cask strength 122.9 proof. Limited to 3,300 bottles at $99.99. The nose arrives with cosmic brownie chocolate, hard sugar candy, and warm baking spice. The palate opens with atomic fireball and red hots cinnamon heat, followed by dark cherry, black raspberry, leather, and a lingering oak-driven finish. A remarkable blending achievement and a fitting tribute to American bourbon craftsmanship coast to coast. *(00:38:09)* It's a fitting episode to follow the milestone of Episode 500 — five expressions, five stories about anniversaries big and small, all sharing one message: great bourbon is being made everywhere, and there's always something worth raising a glass to. Dan Mattingly brought great energy and sharp palate notes to the table, and we hope you'll stop by the new Bourbon Road website at thebourbonroad.com to join the Roadie community, grab your free membership, and stay in the loop on upcoming events, giveaways, and live tastings. Until next time, we'll see you down the Bourbon Road.

What happens when God asks you to leave everything familiar behind before showing you where you are actually going? Are you willing to trust His promises when the path forward is completely hidden from view? This week on Off Script, Connor Hall steps in for Neil Gregory to sit down and discuss a powerful Father's Day weekend. They unpack the launch of a new series on faith, diving deep into the story of Abram in Genesis 12 and what it looks like to step out in radical obedience. The conversation covers the grueling process of writing a sermon twice, the tough boundaries surrounding worship music and theology, and the countercultural reality that partial obedience is still disobedience. Ultimately, this episode serves as a reminder that while false gods will always demand that you bleed for them, our God is the one who bled for us. The Challenge: Identify one area of your life where you have been offering God "partial obedience" or trying to bring your old baggage along for the ride. This week, make the definitive choice to clear out the weeds, leave that comfort zone behind, and take one full step of pure obedience into the unknown. Hosts: Connor Hall and Scott Nickell What We Discuss: • Connor Hall stepping in to host the podcast while Neil Gregory is away across the pond in Ireland • How preaching on Father's Day affects Scott, and why the turnout this past weekend was a proud moment • The behind-the-scenes breakdown of why a sermon had to be entirely rewritten on a Wednesday morning due to a worship song copyright slide • The specific theological boundaries the church maintains regarding certain ministries, false gospels, and musical infiltration • Dissecting the massive chronological gap between Genesis 12, verses 3 and 4, by using Stephen's speech in Acts 7 • Why Abram's decision to bring Lot along was a hedge of his bets and a form of partial obedience • Reject, Redeem, Receive: A practical three-part filter for evaluating what can and cannot come with you into your Christian walk • Dismantling the cultural pressure of progressive Christianity that attempts to mold God's word around personal sexual identity About Southland Christian ChurchSouthland is one church meeting in multiple locations across central Kentucky. We believe Jesus came for the lost and the broken, which means there's a place for everyone here. Around here, that means we worship defiantly, speak truth unashamedly, and extend grace generously. A decades-long hunting battle nears victory as conservation wins stack nationwide. Momentum is building for hunters, anglers, and conservation advocates across the country. This week's Sportsmen's Voice Roundup covers a major development in Massachusetts, where Sunday hunting legislation is closer to becoming law than ever before. After key provisions were stripped from the Governor's budget proposal earlier this year, lawmakers revived and unanimously advanced measures that would expand hunting opportunities, increase access for working hunters, allow broader crossbow use during archery season, and modernize outdated setback requirements. Listeners will hear why this legislation matters not only for deer management and public health concerns like Lyme disease and Alpha-gal syndrome, but also for the future of hunting access in one of America's most restrictive states. The conversation also dives into encouraging wild turkey harvest numbers across the Southeast. Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana all reported exceptional spring turkey seasons, highlighting the ongoing success of wild turkey conservation and restoration efforts. Additional updates include the latest on South Atlantic red snapper management, California legislation supporting hunter safety during archery seasons, and how free fishing days across the Great Lakes region continue introducing new anglers to the water. If you care about hunting access, wildlife management, turkey hunting, recreational fishing, and the policies shaping the future of the outdoors, this is a roundup you won't want to miss. This year, technology has more influence in officiating sports than ever before. At the men's World Cup, the role of virtual assistant referee technology (VAR) has been extended to include two more on-pitch scenarios while in tennis, umpires use electric line calling systems (ELC) to make final decisions. Both bits of kit aim to improve the accuracy. It's become easier to consider match-defining moments through these tracking and review systems' specialised cameras. But, this information takes human officials valuable time to analyse.Football fans criticise VAR for this reason, saying it delays match momentum. Top ranking tennis players Aryna Sabalenka and Alexander Zverev have also complained as these systems are not yet infallible. If technology is as imperfect as a human referee or umpire and can interrupt the fan experience too, why do elite sports rely on it?This week on The Inquiry we're asking, ‘Is technology ruining sport?'Contributors Carlo de Marchis, independent advisor in sports and media technology in ItalyDr Otto Koblinger, former sports scientist, Munich Technical University, Germany and senior data manager, Saudi Pro LeagueProfessor Odilon Roble, sport philosopher and psychoanalyst, University of Campinas (UNICAMP), BrazilMatt Moore, associate dean, University of Kentucky's college of social work, USPresenter: Tanya Beckett Producer: Evie Yabsley Researcher: Amelia Cox Editor: Tom Bigwood Technical Producer: Nicky Edwards Production Management: Phoebe Lomas and Liam Morrey(Photo: VAR check. A YouTube video with hundreds of thousands of views claimed Nancy Guthrie was a pharmaceutical compliance officer from Columbus, Ohio, connected to a 32 billion dollar healthcare fraud conspiracy. The video stated it as fact. Professional narration. Graphics. The production quality of legitimate reporting. The problem: Nancy Guthrie was born in Fort Wright, Kentucky. She's lived in Tucson, Arizona for more than fifty years. She's a retired grandmother. She was never a compliance officer. She never lived in Ohio. The entire professional identity was fabricated. The theory that grew from it — that Nancy was a whistleblower silenced by corporate interests — was built on a foundation that doesn't exist. And a separate fabrication made it worse: manipulated Google Trends screenshots claiming someone in Arizona searched for Nancy's address months before the kidnapping. Google itself confirmed through Brian Entin at NewsNation that the data was not accurate. Two manufactured pieces of evidence. Two pillars of the case's online mythology. Both completely made up. Tony Brueski examines how the internet built an evidence factory around a real missing person — and why the content creators behind it are still collecting views.Links:Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? This week on The Whiskey Trip, Big Chief welcomes Hemal Patel and Joe Godfrey of Patel Bourbon for a conversation about friendship, craftsmanship, and the journey of building a premium whiskey brand. Patel Bourbon was founded on the idea that great whiskey should be more than just something you drink. It should be something that brings people together, sparks conversation, and creates lasting memories.   We kicked off the first half with Patel's Bespoke Straight Wheat Whiskey, an 8 year, 3 month old single barrel bottled at 115 proof. Soft wheat sweetness, honey, and light oak with a smooth, warming finish. From there, we moved into their Kentucky style Rye, a 9 year, 3 month old cask strength whiskey that beautifully balances sweetness and spice. Bright citrus, baking spice, and a peppery kick with a touch of caramel. Along the way, Hemal and Joe shared the story behind Patel Bourbon, the meaning of their Epicurean philosophy, and the passion that drives every barrel they select.   The second half opened with their Bespoke Straight Bourbon, a nearly 9 year old cask strength expression packed with rich caramel, oak, and baking spice notes. Deep caramel, toasted oak, and vanilla with a bold, lingering finish. We wrapped up the episode with Patel's impressive 9 year, 2 month old Straight Rye bottled at 121 proof, a bold and flavorful whiskey that showcases everything rye lovers are looking for in a premium single barrel. Dark spice, mint, and charred oak with a long, spicy finish.   Beyond the whiskey, this episode explores entrepreneurship, barrel selection, and what it takes to build a brand in today's whiskey landscape. Hemal and Joe discuss the importance of relationships, staying true to your vision, and creating a company that stands for something bigger than the bottle.   One of the things that makes Patel Bourbon unique is its commitment to giving back. Through its support of the David Downie Foundation, the company helps families facing the financial burdens that often accompany a cancer diagnosis. It is a reminder that success is not just measured by what you build, but by how many lives you impact along the way.   And because no ride is complete without a little extra excitement, one lucky listener will win the same Patel Bourbon Straight Rye featured on the show, along with a Patel Bourbon T shirt and a The Whiskey Trip rocks glass.   Pour a glass, settle in, and Take the Ride.

This week on Epic Realms, Nick sits down with three-time Eisner Award nominated cartoonist, writer, and illustrator Chris Schweizer for a wide-ranging conversation about creativity, storytelling, and building a life around making comics. From his childhood in Louisiana and Kentucky to his years studying art, theater, and filmmaking, Chris reflects on the experiences that shaped his artistic voice and eventually led him into the world of graphic novels. Along the way, he shares stories about making homemade movies as a kid, discovering classic comic strips like Calvin and Hobbes and Pogo, and finding his place within the evolving comics industry. The discussion explores the craft behind visual storytelling, the unique language of comics, and the creative choices that separate newspaper strips, graphic novels, and superhero books. Chris also looks back on the creation of Crogan's Adventures, the project that helped launch his professional career, and discusses how his approach to writing and illustration has evolved over the years. The second half of the conversation focuses on The Outlaw's Apprentice, Chris's upcoming fantasy graphic novel launching on Kickstarter. Freddie is back from Italy and he has something to say about rest. Not the kind where you check your phone less — real, full untethering from your life, your obligations, your identity as a health entrepreneur. Two weeks of pasta, espresso, cannolis, and walking a hundred miles through Florence, Rome, and Sardinia. And what he came back with wasn't a protocol. It was a perspective shift as powerful as any medicine he's ever taken. In this solo episode he unpacks what Italian culture actually showed him about time, community, meals as ceremony, and why the absence of chronic illness paranoia in that culture might be saying something profound about the relationship between stress, belief, and biological terrain. He also gets honest about the financial design choices that make a trip like this possible — and why he thinks more people could engineer that kind of freedom than they realize. The second half of this episode is a love letter to MagnaCon — the l PEMF conference hosted by MagnaWave and AuraWell in Louisville, Kentucky, where Freddie served as emcee for 500 practitioners, scientists, veterinarians, and wellness enthusiasts celebrating FDA Class II cleared PEMF technology. From touring the US-made AuraWell factory to watching speakers share stories of Kentucky Derby horses healed from the brink, Freddie describes it as one of the most genuinely full experiences of his professional life. He closes with sponsor love for SilverBiotics — his travel immune staple across five international flights — and a personal update on the LightPath LED Orange Torch and intranasal red light therapy, which has been producing HRV and sleep score improvements that are hard to explain and impossible to ignore. Alberta O. Jones was breaking barriers in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the first Black woman prosecutor in the city's history, she helped register some 6,000 Black citizens to vote, and she was a leader in the city's civil rights movement. But on Aug. 5, 1965 –  before she could make even more changes in the highly segregated city – Alberta was found dead floating in the Ohio River. The night before, she reluctantly went out late to visit a close friend, setting off a 60-year mystery that has led to more questions than answers.  Was Alberta killed in a random robbery? Was she set up by her best friend? Or was she targeted for her dangerous civil rights work?  If you have any information about the death of Alberta O. Jones, you can contact the Louisville Metro Police Department's Cold Case Squad at 502-574-7055, or you can email us directly at tips@audiochuck.com.   Head over to our Crime Junkie YouTube channel to WATCH this episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1wBlZ5GW6Q Source materials for this episode cannot be listed here due to character limitations.
