In February of 2004 the late Charles Krauthammer delivered the keynote address at AEI's Annual Dinner. It was a year into the Iraqi war and several years into the War on Terror. Krauthammer's address—entitled Democratic Realism—lauded much of the Bush administration's approach to the war, but offered some stern warnings on how the war and rebuilding efforts might go awry. His warnings proved to be profoundly prescient as the following years led to the disillusionment of what broadly (and wrongly) became known as NeoCon foreign policy. What had the Right missed in Krauthammer's warnings? What foreign policy approaches has the United States historically taken, and are any of them still relevant? How might conservatism shed light on the most appropriate foreign policy we could pursue? Joining Saving Elephants host Josh Lewis is returning guest Michael Lucchese to think through the lessons learned in American foreign policy. In this episode of the ChinaPower Podcast, Mr. Tuvia Gering joins us to discuss China's strategy in the context of the Israel-Hamas war and the Red Sea crisis. He dissects the different views within China and the role China has played in both. He shares that China blames the United States for the war and that the PRC response to the region is informed by China's desire to push back against the Western-led world order. Mr. Gering also discusses the politics behind the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea and the economic ramifications that have followed. Overall, China's responses to both crises have been high on rhetoric and low on action. Finally, Mr. Gering warns of the possibility of broader escalation in the Middle east and the low likelihood of Chinese willingness to work with the United States. Tuvia Gering is a nonresident fellow in the Atlantic Council's Global China Hub, a researcher at the Diane & Guilford Glazer Foundation Israel-China Policy Center at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), and a Tikvah Fund's Krauthammer fellow based in Jerusalem and specializing in Chinese security and foreign policy. Previously, he was a research fellow at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security (JISS) and the Israeli Chinese Media Center.

John Bolton was a former National Security Advisor of the United States to President Trump from April 2018 to September 2019. He spent many of his 453 days in the room where it happened at President Trump's side and he provided commentary on Trump's presidency as well ashis record in politics in both the Ronald Reagan (as Assistant Attorney General) and George W. Bush (as the United Nations ambassador) administrations. In his book, The Room Where it Happened: A White house Memoir described President Trump as a corrupt, incompetent, unethical, lack of knowledge, and a reckless leader who abuses his power to advance his personal and political needs rather than the nation's interests. It is a comprehensive and substantial account of the Trump Administration. According to the author's judgment, “I don't think he's fit for office. I don't think he has the competence to carry out the job.” Let's take into account the important events in the story. It all started when Bolton's long march to the West Wing as Trump and others pursue him for the National Security job. According to the author “Trump is Trump”. He came to understand that Trump thinks he could run the Executive Branch and establish national-security policies relying on his instincts, personal relationship with foreign leaders, and with the help of television showmanship alone. Trump and most of his team are incompetent and don't even read the government's “operator's manual” and the president appointing people that were “lack-of-experience” or no experience at all to be in his office. The transition's spreading disorder increasingly reflected not just organizational failures but Trump's decision-making style.Krauthammer a sharp critic of Trump even commented that his behavior as of that eleven-year-old boy. And so, Trump's transition ended with no visible prospect of Bolton, joining the Administration. Bolton concluded that if Trump's post-inaugural decision-making process was as unconventional and erratic as his selections so it was fine that he will stay outside's Trump's Administration.

In this straightforward essay, Mr. Krauthammer discusses the “perils of bilingualism.” Host Dennis Leap, with guest Deborah Leap, discuss America’s political struggle to declare English as the official language. The Democratic left considers it racist to do so.
In his tongue-in-cheek essay “The Appeal of Ordeal," Charles Krauthammer takes us deep into his thinking about the “human propensity to test the worthiness of a thing by seeing how well it stands up to abuse.” Host Dennis Leap, with guest Deborah Leap, finish discussing the essay, commenting on Krauthammer’s view of the ordeal of survivorship and the ordeal of lessons learned.
In his tongue-in-cheek essay “The Appeal of the Ordeal," Krauthammer takes us deep into his thinking about the “human propensity to test the worthiness of a thing by seeing how well it stands up to abuse.” Host Dennis Leap continues his discussion of Krauthammer’s reflection over people’s willingness to prove themselves by running a marathon, and he begins a discussion of the ordeal of culture elite.
In his tongue-in-cheek essay “The Appeal of Ordeal," Mr. Krauthammer takes us deep into his thinking about the “human propensity to test the worthiness of a thing by seeing how well it stands up to abuse.” Host Dennis Leap focuses on Krauthammer’s reflection over people’s willingness to prove themselves by running a marathon.
Host Dennis Leap and special guest Deborah Leap discuss Charles Krauthammer’s attention-catching essay “‘Women and Children.’ Still?” In this essay, Krauthammer mused on why 1997 audiences watching the movie Titanic booed when men jumped into lifeboats before women and children. Shouldn’t feminism’s drive for equality have eliminated such a reaction? As the Leaps discuss, feminism cannot change the inherent, biological character traits of men and women.
Host Dennis Leap with special guest Deborah Leap discuss Charles Krauthammer’s thought-provoking essay ”Motherhood Missed.” Written in 2000, this essay exposes one painful tribute the feminist movement bestowed on its leaders—missed motherhood. Krauthammer showed that some older feminists, who have led outstanding careers, regret not having children.
Host Dennis Leap and guest Deborah Leap discuss Charles Krauthammer’s essay “The Inner Man? Who Cares.” Written at the time of Richard Nixon’s impeachment, this essay discusses the folly of attempting to interpret the inner thoughts of politicians. The Leaps also reference current articles by Victor Davis Hanson, showing that Washington elites want to punish U.S. President Donald Trump for “thoughts" they believe are crimes. Krauthammer’s essay shows history is repeating itself with the Trump impeachment process.
Host Dennis Leap and guest Deborah Leap discuss Charles Krauthammer’s essay “Save the Border Collie,” which deals with the genetic manipulation of the dog breed, changing the dog from "smart to pretty.” The literature duo also begin discussing Krauthammer's essay “The Inner Man? Who Cares.”
Host Dennis Leap and guest Jude Flurry continue discussing Krauthammer’s essay structure using his essay “The Real Message of Creationism.”
Host Dennis Leap and guest Deborah Leap discuss Krauthammer’s life-changing accident and his essay “The Central Axiom of Partisan Politics."

Episode 26: Dr. Charles Krauthammer was a well-respected conservative political pundit who died a year ago. I was watching a Fox News program the other day when they mentioned the one year anniversary of his death. I was never a big fan of his, because I believe he wasn't all that conservative, but I have to admit that he was admirable for his approach to life after becoming a paraplegic from a diving accident. May Dr. Krauthammer rest in the peace of God. The thing that caught my attention in the mini tribute Fox News had for Dr. Krauthammer was what the Catholic host said. He indicated that Dr. Krauthammer now resides in heaven. That statement is indicative of a very dangerous heresy that has flowed over from Protestantism into the thinking of Catholics, and I think it needs to be addressed. This might all be brand new to you! The Cantankerous Catholic Social Media Group https://www.mumblit.com/cantankerouscatholicgroup (Join) our group where subscribers of The Cantankerous Catholic can meet to discuss the issues talked about in episodes, get opinions from other like minded people, or simply discuss anything effecting Catholics. Don’t like or trust Facebook? No problem! Joe Sixpack—The Every Catholic Guy doesn’t trust Facebook either. There have been too many instances of censorship on Facebook. If you promote abortion, LGBT issues, or anything anti-patriotic, you’re pretty much guaranteed to be unmolested by Facebook. But if you promote life, decency or morality, Facebook is subject to censor your posts, take down your page, or otherwise use some underhanded method to censor you. Mumblit.com We’ve found an alternative to Facebook. It’s a new social media site called https://www.mumblit.com/cantankerouscatholicgroup (Mumblit.com). This is the one social media that doesn’t censor you for upholding Catholic values and morals. You’re completely free to discuss and promote anything you want, just as long as it isn’t immoral, indecent, or anti-American. https://www.mumblit.com/cantankerouscatholicgroup (Mumblit.com) has never molested us in any way, and they guarantee they won’t. The site otherwise works identically to Facebook. That is the reason Joe Sixpack—The Every Catholic Guy chose to host https://www.mumblit.com/cantankerouscatholicgroup (The Cantankerous Catholic Social Media Group) there. We have the added benefit and protection of being a private group. So https://www.mumblit.com/cantankerouscatholicgroup (join the group) now to meet other like minded Catholics. Not a Catholic? We’d still love to have you join us. You’ll find that we’re a very welcoming people. It is hard to believe that it has been almost a year since the eminent columnist—and great Jewish conservative—Charles Krauthammer passed away. Krauthammer’s clarity of mind and force of argument were the cornerstone of American conservative commentary, and the sheer breadth of his knowledge and interests made him a truly irreplaceable writer. Thankfully for those of us who once relied on Krauthammer’s commentary to help us think through the most pressing issues of the day, his son Daniel has lovingly editing his father’s final volume of collected essays, entitled The Point of It All: A Lifetime of Great Loves and Endeavors. Of course, like all of Charles Krauthammer’s writing, this collection spans a huge range of topics, from science, medicine, and bioethics to politics, culture, and history. But in this week’s podcast, Jonathan Silver sits down with Daniel Krauthammer to focus on his father’s Jewish writings. Daniel reflects on his father’s thinking about Israel, faith, and Jewish ideas, and remembers what Charles was like as Jewish father. This conversation is both a meditation on and tribute to Dr. Krauthammer, and we hope you enjoy it. Musical selections in this podcast are drawn from the Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, op. 31a, composed by Paul Ben-Haim and performed by the ARC Ensemble.
In this episode of the Bradley Lecture Series Podcast, Charles Krauthammer discusses “Defining Deviancy Up.” This lecture was originally delivered at AEI in 1993. About The Point of It All Created and compiled by Charles Krauthammer before his death, The Point of It All is a powerful collection of the influential columnist’s most important works. Spanning the personal, the political and the philosophical, it includes never-before-published speeches and a major new essay about the effect of today’s populist movements on the future of global democracy. Edited and with an introduction by the columnist’s son, Daniel Krauthammer, it is the most intimate and profound book yet by the legendary writer and thinker. In his decades of work as America’s preeminent political commentator, Charles Krauthammer elevated the opinion column to a form of art. Whether writing about statecraft and foreign policy or reflecting on more esoteric topics such as baseball, spaceflight and medical ethics, Krauthammer was beloved not only for his penetrating wit and insight but also for his ability to identify the hidden moral truths that animate our politics and culture. This new collection, which Krauthammer composed before his death in June 2018, features the columns, speeches and unpublished writings that showcase the best of his original thought and his last, enduring words on the state of American politics, the nature of liberal democracy and the course of world history. The book also includes a deeply personal section offering insight into Krauthammer’s beliefs about what mattered most to him–friendship, family and the principles he lived by–all anchored by Daniel Krauthammer’s poignant eulogy for his father. For longtime readers and newcomers alike, The Point of It All is a timely demonstration of what it means to cut through the noise of petty politics with clarity, integrity and intellectual fortitude. It is a reminder of what made Charles Krauthammer the most celebrated American columnist and political thinker of his generation, a revealing look at the man behind the words and a lasting testament to his belief that anyone with an open and honest mind can grapple deeply with the most urgent questions in politics and in life. CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, was a syndicated columnist, political commentator, and physician. His column was syndicated to over 400 newspapers worldwide. He was a nightly panelist on Fox News’ Special Report with Bret Baier. He served as a member of the President’s Council on Bioethics. James takes your calls about AZ Sen. John McCain (R) who died yesterday from brain cancer. Call-in: 888-775-3773. Live Sunday 9am PT (11CT/12ET). The media say he was a war hero and independent minded (which is to say RINO). He was the son and grandson of military generals. He was shot down and captured after volunteering for Navy air combat missions in Vietnam. He was injured when he parachuted to a lake, and they gave him minimal treatment. They reportedly tortured him during the 5 years, and he reportedly refused release until all the prior POWs were released. He famously cast a thumbs-down "No" vote on Trump's skinny repeal of Obamacare. (What a sucker!) He definitely hated Trump, and highlighted their different backgrounds to make himself look better. He opposed abortion, but not sure he did anything good in his 6-term career as a politician since the 1980s. Jeff Flake wrote something nice about him, as did Obama, and Meghan McCain, John's daughter. Sarah Palin said nice things, and said he just had bad help — that he was surrounded by not nice people. Trump tweeted condolences. Trump had famously said he's not a war hero — he's a hero because he was captured. MSNBC clip: https://youtu.be/ZiIzoYbjbfI Now they have to replace him, perhaps with Sheriff Joe Arpaio, or perhaps with this Republican woman Kelli Ward. Or perhaps with a Democrat. Who knows, with these Arizona voters. SMH. James took calls from Tim from Louisiana, then LCTR Fan (pronounced Lecture Fan, a political host on Twitch), also Maze from Dayton, OH, and finally Anne from Texas (a woman from southern Africa). We talked about Willem Petzer, a South African boer who appeared on The Jesse Lee Peterson Show. Jesse said you can't trust an angry person. They will turn on you. When Charles Krauthammer died last week, tributes poured in from colleagues and fans of very ideological persuasion. It’s hard to think of another contemporary commentator or journalist who inspired such widespread, bi-partisan, affectionate regard. What earned him this special place in the worlds of media and politics? First, Krauthammer’s columns unmistakably reflected his character—brilliant, reasonable, witty, warm and utterly sincere. Second, the public marveled at his heroic personal story: a quadriplegic from age 21, he never allowed his physical limitations to interfere with his positive, passionate life. In today’s world, even when you agree with a politician it’s commonly hard to respect him. But with Krauthammer, even when you disagreed with him, you had to admire him.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On Thursday’s Mark Levin show, When you have the biggest political party in the country that insists on fundamentally transforming America, especially through the tools of immigration, and when you have a Republican Party that is shifty and unprincipled, is it too late? Is it too late to secure the border and to have a lawful immigration system? Rather than the Democrat party responding to the will of the people, the Democrat party has decided to change the people through immigration so they respond to the will of the Democrat party. And many Republicans are on board, because they buy into this notion that it’s humane to destroy your own country. Also, what does this mean for American children when the government advances open-ended immigration instead of assimilation? The Democrats make the case that family separation is akin to camps in Nazi Germany, despite the fact that children are always separated from their parents when their parents are arrested. Later, SCOTUS hands a court victory to the Trump Administration citing that the SEC infringed upon powers assigned to the president in the U.S. Constitution’s appointments clause regarding the appointments of certain federal posts. This echoes the argument made by Law Professor Calabresi and Mark about Special Counsel Mueller's appointment being unconstitutional based on that same precedent. Then, damning testimony from Michael Daniel former cyber-security chief under Obama testified that he was given a stand-down order regarding combating the Russian threat against the 2016 campaign. Finally, Conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer passed away today. He was a brilliant man that put a lot of effort into writing his columns. Mark really respected Krauthammer despite his critique of President Reagan during the 1980 campaign, and he never tried to sabotage Reagan and eventually embraced his presidency and philosophy. Celebrated conservative author, columnist and broadcaster Charles Krauthammer released an announcement on Thursday, saying that he has perhaps only weeks to live as cancer has metastasized throughout his body. Krauthammer has a strong connection to Canada, having attended school in Montreal as well as graduating from McGill. In 2014, Roy spoke with Karthammer about a variety of topics. Here are parts of that interview. Guest: Charles Krauthammer, from his interview in 2014 See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
After discussing the Washington Capitals ending a 26-year title drought in the nation's capital, Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America applaud Country Time for vowing to pay the fines and permit fees for kids hassled by the government for running lemonade stands without business licenses. They're also disgusted as a 57-year-old married man with a high staff position for the Senate Intelligence Committee is charged with leaking classified information to two reporters, including his mistress, who was then 22-years-old. And they note this week's high profile suicides of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain as the suicide rate skyrockets in much of America, and they implore anyone struggling to go on to find help. Finally, they close on another somber note as they process the news that conservative columnist and commentator Charles Krauthammer has only weeks to live.
Sean spends a bit of time preparing the audience for next week's summit with North Korea. Plus, Sean spends the 3rd hour honoring his friend and Fox News colleague Charles Krauthammer. "This was a moral disgrace." Dr. Charles Krauthammer did not mince words with Fox News' Bill Hemmer on Special Report as he condemned President Trump's comments that there was violence 'on both sides' at the Charlottesville rallies and protests over the weekend. "What he did is he reverted back to where he was on Saturday and made it very clear that what he read on... Monday, two days later, was a hostage tape. Clearly reading off a prompter, saying these denunciations by name of the KKK, et cetera. That wasn't Trump speaking, that was the aides speaking." Dr. Krauthammer was one of many pundits, both on the right and left, to strongly criticize the president's lack of moral leadership. However, many congressional Republicans failed to condemn President Trump by name. Rep. Charlie Dent, the co-chair of the moderate GOP Tuesday Group, joined Michael Steele and Rick Ungar to discuss how the Republican Party needs to get back to its roots as the party of Lincoln and civil rights. Evan McMullin, a former CIA officer and 2016 presidential candidate, talked about the need to demand more accountability from our politicians and elected leaders.

BUILD THE WALL BUILD THE WALL Charles Krauthammer with an ending from Bill Clinton Can America solve its illegal immigration problem both justly and humanely? Yes, but it requires first building a border wall. Washington Post columnist and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Charles Krauthammer explains why. Presented by CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER Can America solve its illegal immigration problem both justly and humanely? Yes, but it requires first building a border wall. Washington Post columnist and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Charles Krauthammer explains why. DOWNLOAD TRANSCRIPT VIEW TRANSCRIPT Every sensible immigration policy has two objectives: 1) to regain control of our borders so that we decide who enters; and 2) to find a humane way to deal with the 11 million illegal immigrants who now live among us. Start with the second. For both practical and moral reasons, America cannot and will not and should not expel 11 million people. That leaves us with two choices: ignore them or figure out a way to legalize them. Ignoring them hasn’t worked. But there is also a huge problem with legalization: it creates an irresistible incentive for new illegal immigrants to come. We say, of course, that this will be the very last, very final, never-again, we're-not-kidding-this-time amnesty. And everyone knows it's phony. That’s what was said in 1986, when we passed the Simpson-Mazzoli immigration reform. It turned out to be the largest legalization program in American history -- nearly 3 million people got permanent residency. There was no enforcement. We now have 11 million new illegal immigrants in our midst. The irony of this whole debate, which bitterly splits the country, is that there is a silver bullet that would not just solve the problem, but also create a national consensus behind it. A vast number of Americans who oppose legalization and fear new waves of immigration would change their minds if we could radically reduce new -- i.e., future -- illegal immigration. And we can. First, build a barrier. Call it a wall. Call it a fence. Call it what you will. Add cameras and sensors. Add drones. Beef up the patrols. All that matters is that we regain control of the border. Fences work. The triple fence outside San Diego led to a 90 percent reduction in infiltration. Israel’s border fence with the West Bank produced a similar decline. Even holier-than-thou Europeans have conceded the point: Hungary, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Austria, Greece, Spain – why, even Norway -- have all started building border fences to stem the tide of Middle Eastern refugees. Then enforce two other measures: a national E-Verify system that makes it just about impossible to work if you are here illegally, and a functioning visa tracking system, since 40% of illegal immigrants are visa overstays. The wall/fence will, of course, be ugly. So are the concrete barriers to keep truck bombs from driving into the White House. Sometimes function has to supersede form. And don't tell me that this is our Berlin Wall. When you build a wall to keep people in, that's a prison. When you build a wall to keep people out, that's an expression of sovereignty. Of course, no barrier will be foolproof. But it doesn't have to be. It simply has to reduce the river to a manageable trickle. Once we do, everything becomes possible -- including dealing with our 11 million illegal immigrants. So, let’s fix that. Track the visas, do E-Verify, build the damn barrier. It’s ridiculous to say that it can’t be done. And who would certify that the border is back in our control? I would have a neutral party, perhaps a commission of retired jurists, issue the judgment. Once they do, we legalize the 11 million, granting them the right to stay and work here. We can’t give them citizenship. That’s a bridge too far. You don’t get to join the political destiny of the country by entering it illegally. But any children born here would be American -- which means that over time the issue resolves itself. The American people are legitimately angry at the price American society has paid due to illegal immigration. But they are also a generous people. Once they are assured that we do indeed control our borders, that anger will abate. A national consensus will emerge. Radical border control, followed by radical legalization. No mushy compromise. A solution requires two acts of national will: putting up a wall (along with E-Verify and visa tracking) and absorbing those who broke our laws to come to America. This is not a compromise meant to appease both sides without achieving anything. It’s not some piece of hybrid legislation that arbitrarily divides illegals into those with five-year-old "roots" in America and those without – or some such mischief-making nonsense. If we do it right, not only will we solve the problem, we will get it done as one nation. I’m Charles Krauthammer for Prager University.
