Corey Brooks—“The Rooftop Pastor”—spent 343 days living on the rooftop of his church on Chicago’s south side to inspire community transformation. Online, Brooks posted a “shout-out” to his elementary school teacher, Joe Stokes, who taught him four unforgettable lessons: the power of perseverance, the importance of integrity, the value of community engagement, and the impact of education. By embracing Solomon’s wisdom in Proverbs 3, we likewise can strive to live in ways that have community impact. Solomon taught four lessons that are just right for those who trust in God and are called to be a positive force: “Trust in the Lord” (v. 5); “fear the Lord and shun evil” (v. 7); “honor the Lord with your wealth” (v. 9); “do not despise the Lord’s discipline” (v. 11). Such wisdom compels us to be God-focused, but there are people-touching dimensions to our faith too. In Matthew 5:3-12, Jesus, the ultimate embodiment of wisdom, eloquently described the internal disposition of believers in Jesus. Furthermore, He reminded them that they were high-impact people. “You are the salt of the earth” (v. 13). “You are the light of the world” (v. 14). As such, we are honored to, “Let [our] light shine . . . that they may see [our] good deeds and glorify [our] Father in heaven” (v. 16).

Read Online“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” Matthew 11:28–30Each of us needs to hear these gentle and inviting words more than we realize. On the surface, many people project an image of happiness, as if they have it all together. Social media profiles often present the happy, successful, fun, and impressive aspects of a person's life. The good news is that there is much to rejoice in, and many people do have blessings to share. However, there are also times when Jesus' words above are needed more than ever.What burdens you? What weighs you down the most? Sometimes, we are not even self-aware enough to identify the root cause of our burdens. We might point to external factors beyond our control as the source of our discontentment. The truth, however, is that the deepest burdens we carry are those caused by our own sin. Those who love God with their whole heart, mind, soul, and strength, and love their neighbor with the Heart of Christ, cannot be burdened or overwhelmed by anything in this life when they are free from sin. Even the worst tragedies or the heaviest crosses become opportunities for a deeper encounter with God, resulting in profound peace and joy, even in the midst of suffering.“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” This invitation from Jesus is not just a call to find relief from life's challenges; it's an invitation to be unburdened by sin, so that we can carry Jesus' Cross of pure sacrificial love. Freedom from sin leads to divine love, which is always sacrificial and self-giving. Sacrificial love, in turn, is more fulfilling, light, and joyful than anything else in life. When we learn to love God rather than sin, we begin to love with His Heart, selflessly laying down our lives for others in imitation of Jesus. This act of love then becomes our greatest joy. Reflect today on this deeply personal invitation spoken from Jesus' Heart to yours. Hear Him say it to you. Look into your own life, become fully self-aware in Christ, identify the sins that burden you the most, entrust them to our Lord, and let Him free you so that you can love Him and others with His Heart. This is the yoke of Christ, and carrying it will become your greatest joy in life. My inviting Lord, You call me to look into my soul to discover the sin that burdens me and keeps me from the freedom I deeply desire. Please open my eyes, dear Lord, and lift the burdens caused by my sins so that I can carry Your Cross of selfless and sacrificial love, finding perfect joy and contentment in doing so. Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception 2025 Gospel Luke 1:26-38 The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, "Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you." But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his Kingdom there will be no end." But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?" And the angel said to her in reply, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. Paul says here in verse 14, "Our people must learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others. Then they will not be unproductive." Ironically, the opposite is true. If you want to have an unproductive life, an unfruitful life, then focus only on yourself. Zig Ziglar put it this way: "You can get everything in life you want if you'll just help enough other people to get what they want." And in John 12:24, Jesus says, "I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels, a plentiful harvest of new lives." A productive and fulfilling life comes when we take the focus off ourselves and begin to serve others. This doesn't mean that your life isn't worth anything, that abasement and self-degradation are the goal. No—your life is absolutely worthy of respect and love and care. Christ has demonstrated for us just how valuable your life is, and he has shown us the context of our lives. We are creatures made in relationship to others, and your own unique gifting and glory will find its deepest and truest expression as we pursue our lives in service to others. When we die to making this life about us, then we will have all that we want—more than we could have imagined in this life and in the life to come. And we can actually begin to do that now. Because our anxieties about our lives have been dealt with in Christ. He has restored our self-respect. He has made clear what our value is, so we don't have to try to compensate for something we think is missing, and fight to make this life all about us. The Gospel of Mark says, "For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many." So let us learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others, and we will not be unproductive. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Part 2 Dave and Bethlie discuss the book And The Bride Wore White.    Chapter 2-4 about Satan's lies. His lies haven't really changed (Gen. 3:1-13) "Did God really say that?" "God is keeping something good from you." "A little won't hurt you." "Now that you've fallen, God has no use for you."  There is no debating with the devil.  We must learn truth and shut him down with truth.   Chapter 6 about Purity being a process.   Realizing: *I was not born pure. (We are born innocent, but we are also born sinners.) *I will face the beast of lust, perhaps over and over again, but that in itself is not  a sin. Rather it is a chance to develop my purity by talking to God, talking to a  friend, and making a fast, strategic exit.  *I can become pure. (Pg 57)   Chapter 7 about envisioning a Godly Husband. One of Charity's favorite chapters, simply because the author encourages girls to dream about and pray for the man that God has for them. (Incidentally, when I was praying for David Young, I was dreaming of a handsome man with dark, curly hair, blue eyes, and dimples. The Lord loves me! Ironically, David wasn't even saved when I started praying for him!)   Chapter 8-12 give practical and Biblical tools to maintain purity including awesome dating advice. *Woven throughout the book is Bob and Dannah's love story, how they met, how they dated, broke up, got back together, became engaged, and eventually married.   Self-control and self-denial Modesty in dress and conduct Having the right kind of conversations. ("Foul lines"—things you won't discuss until you are ready to be married.) (pg 98-99) Be sure you (and the one you're interested in) love God MOST. Being open to wise counsel, particularly from parents.   Conclusion The book finishes with God's beautiful, sacred plan for sexuality.  There are "letters" in the appendix which deal with things like sexual abuse pornography fatherlessness abortion singleness

Holy Indignation, Hanukkah, and Cleansing the Temple of Your Heart | KIB 509 Kingdom Intelligence Briefing Description In this episode of the Kingdom Intelligence Briefing, Dr. Michael and Mary Lou Lake share a timely word about holy indignation, the Feast of Dedication (Hanukkah), and the urgent need to cleanse the temple of our hearts in these perilous last days. We all have “love issues.” John 13:35 says that love is to be our identifying mark as Christians – not our wisdom or spiritual gifts or activity – but being a loving person is difficult. Jada Edwards has a new book out called A New Way to Love Your Neighbor that she wrote out of a season where she struggled to love well. The Lord revealed to her that she couldn't be the originator of grace for other people. She needed God to reveal His love for her specifically, continually, so she'd be filled up with love to give. Jada and the Perrys explore the definition of agape love in which the person initiating the love determines the value of the one they love. They talk about how Biblical love for others almost always requires decision – deciding to love – instead of affection. And ultimately, love needs wisdom to be effective. Some people seem born with the gift of hospitality. The moment you step through their doorway, peace meets you like a warm blanket. The room smells inviting, your needs are anticipated, and the details have been thoughtfully arranged with love. Many of us admire these “natural hostesses,” even if we don’t see those qualities in ourselves. Alicia Searl shares honestly that hosting doesn’t come as easily for her anymore—especially now that the holidays feel heavier, the gatherings larger, and the expectations higher. When she learned it was her turn to host Christmas, her first reaction wasn’t joy but stress. Yet the Lord softened her heart and reminded her of something far more important than décor, menus, or perfect planning: Hospitality is ultimately about peace, not presentation. In Luke 10, Jesus sends out seventy-two disciples with one simple instruction upon entering a home:“First say, ‘Peace to this house.’”No elaborate preparations. No expectations. Peace was the first gift exchanged. If peace rested there, they were to stay, share meals, and bring the good news of God’s kingdom. If not, the peace simply returned to them, and they moved on. Simple. Sacred. Purposeful. Hospitality is one of the primary ways believers embody the heart of Christ. Whether our homes are large or small, tidy or lived-in, beautifully decorated or simple, we are called to cultivate atmospheres where peace dwells. Read Online“If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray.”  Matthew 18:12–13Jesus teaches us a powerful lesson using a familiar image: the shepherd who discovers one of his sheep is missing, goes on a diligent search, finds the lost sheep, and rejoices. The hard work of searching through the hills and valleys is rewarded as soon as the shepherd spots that one lost sheep in the distance. He quickly runs to it, picks it up, and carries it back to the flock. While that one sheep is not more valuable than any of the other ninety-nine, there is great joy in finding the one that was lost.We are all that one lost sheep at various times in our lives. Sometimes we stray just around the corner, while other times we wander far from God. This image of the Good Shepherd diligently seeking out the lost sheep teaches us two essential lessons. First, when we wander away from God and fall into sin, it's easy to forget how much the Good Shepherd loves us. We might think that God is disappointed or angry with us, but these are lies from the evil one that deter us from turning back to God. Since we will always struggle with sin in this life, we must have a clear image in our minds of the Good Shepherd's love. We must be keenly aware of the passion, intensity, and determination with which He seeks us out. He does not sit in judgment or condemnation. Like a loving parent, His deepest desire is to find us and for us to allow Him to pick us up and carry us back to His fold.While this image is crucial for us to consider regarding our personal sins and God's love for us, it must also serve as a model for how we relate to others when they sin. As we grow closer to God and become more aware of His will and moral law, we might be tempted to judge others, especially within our own families. Though we must never downplay objective sin or become indifferent to the sins of others, we must also reject the role of judge and jury. Instead, we must become instruments of the Good Shepherd to those around us. With Christ, our only intention should be to go out to the lost, find them in their sin, love them despite their sin, and offer to carry them home. We must never reject a person because of his or her sin, even if the person remains obstinately attached to it. Reflect today on the burning compassion our Lord has for you, even when you sin. Never hesitate to turn back to Him and allow Him to carry you home, rejoicing all the way. Also, reflect on those you know who have strayed from God. Perhaps they no longer attend Mass, are living in an immoral relationship, vocally support something contrary to the Gospel, or struggle with an addiction or sinful attachment. Do not judge them—love them. Be an instrument of the Heart of Jesus for them so that, through you, they may sense the love Jesus has in His Heart for them. My most compassionate Jesus, You are the Good Shepherd Who never tires of pursuing Your straying sheep. Your deepest desire is to bring them home. When I stray, help me to remember Your burning love for me so that I will never hesitate to turn back to You. When others around me stray, please give me Your Heart, dear Lord, so that I may love them so deeply that You draw them out of their sin. It's a strange question, isn't it? Even the word "godly" feels like such an old-fashioned idea. But Paul tells us to train ourselves to be godly. The measure of our godliness, he says, is linked to our training—to the practices and habits we intentionally cultivate. Apparently, you can train yourself to be godly. That's quite a thought. One of the things Paul encourages Timothy to do in his training for godliness is to read the Word of God publicly. That's not just for Timothy—it's for all of us. Reading God's Word is part of our regiment, our daily training in godliness. This is elemental, foundational to our growth: by spending time in the Scriptures, we are washed clean and our minds are renewed. Our hearts are shaped. We begin, day by day, to look more and more like the One who has the words of life. So how's your training going? Are you feeling a bit out of shape in your life with God? Maybe you need a coach, someone to come alongside and encourage you as you press into these practices. That's why this podcast is here. I am your Bible reading coach, here to encourage you and journey with you as we train in godliness together. So let's keep at it. Let's never give up on this training, because there are great benefits—not only for this life, but for the life to come. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Day 2748 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 98:1-9 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2748 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day two thousand seven hundred forty-eight of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. The title for today's Wisdom-Trek is: The Divine Warrior's Victory Lap – Creation Applauds the King Today, we are lacing up our boots for a joyous celebration as we trek through Psalm Ninety-eight, covering the entire psalm, verses one through nine, in the New Living Translation. This psalm is the crescendo of the Royal Psalms.   In our last trek through Psalm Ninety-seven, we witnessed the terrifying majesty of the Cloud Rider.   We saw Yahweh marching out as a Man of War, with fire going before Him to burn up His enemies.   We saw the mountains melting like wax and the "throne of destruction" being dismantled.   It was a psalm of cosmic conquest, where the rebel gods of the Divine Council were humbled before the Most High. Psalm Ninety-eight is the sequel to that conquest.   If Psalm Ninety-seven was the battle, Psalm Ninety-eight is the Victory Parade.   The smoke has cleared.   The enemies are scattered.   The King has ascended to His throne, and now, a "new song" breaks out across the universe. This is a psalm of unadulterated triumph.   It does not contain a single petition or request.   It doesn't ask God for anything; it simply celebrates what He has already done.   It invites us to join an orchestra that includes not just harps and horns, but the roaring sea and the clapping rivers. So, let us take our place in the choir and sing to the Warrior King. The first segment is: The Divine Warrior Wins the Day Alone Psalm Ninety-eight: verses one through three Sing a new song to the Lord, for he has done wonderful deeds. His right hand has won a mighty victory; his holy arm has shown his saving power!  The Lord has announced his victory and has revealed his righteousness to every nation!  He has remembered his promise to love and be faithful to Israel. The ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. The psalm bursts open with a command: "Sing a new song to the Lord, for he has done wonderful deeds." We have seen this command before in Psalm Ninety-six, but here, the motivation is specific.   We sing a "new song" because the cosmic status quo has been shattered.   God has done "wonderful deeds" (niphla'ot—marvels, things that are distinct and extraordinary). What is this marvelous deed?   "His right hand has won a mighty victory; his holy arm has shown his saving power!" This is the language of the Divine Warrior.   In the ancient world, and in the Divine Council worldview, the gods were often depicted as needing armies or alliances to defeat chaos.   But here,...
