I brought my good friend, Chris LoCurto, back on the show to talk about wine. That's right, wine! You see, there's a great similarity between how wine is made---how the grapes are grown, specifically---and how we should try to live our lives. Wine makers---at least the good ones---know that the farming and producing of great grapes is far more important than the actual process of turning grapes into wine. Now matter how good the process is, it must start with great grapes. The same is true for our lives!  Listen to our fun, informative conversation: Listen on iTunes or Listen to/download this episode here: Love the show? Click here to Tweet a shoutout! Chris LoCurto is a business and life coach who has changed the lives of many people, and the success of many businesses, with his wisdom and consistent message of hope and personal accountability. Listen as Chris and I have a conversation about the victim mentality and finding the true source of our self-worth: Listen on iTunes or Listen to/download this episode here: Show Quotes: A victim mentality says: I can't make life any better than this. People, understand you are in control of your life; you are in control of outcomes; spending time being a victim does nothing but hold you back. I stopped skiing, I stopped watching the Olympics, and I ended up missing out, for years, on something I absolutely loved because of my victim mentality. That was a turning point in my life. Do the things that you can do. If you can't get what you want, find a way to get what you want. If you can't do that, be content where you are. Being bitter at another person is like drinking cyanide and expecting the other person to die. Having a victim mentality is like trying to hurt your circumstance and you are the one who ends up getting hurt in the long run. There are people getting hurt because they are trying to find their identity, their self-worth, in people. A person cannot give you self-worth longer than about 30-seconds! People gossip at work because they don't have a leader who listens! A Jewish concept of worship is "workship"! We worship God by how we treat his children. Work is worship. How you treat others is worship. I don't get my self-esteem from my customers, I get it from God. Have you given much thought to what it takes to be happy? I feel this an appropriate topic since most all of us have the desire to be happy. I say most of us because I have met numerous people who have chosen misery as their desired state of mind. I am sure you have heard the saying, “Material things do not make you happy.” I agree and add, being poor does not make you happy either. I have met some miserable wealthy people and some very happy people who have few material possessions. Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary defines Happiness as a state of well-being and contentment. So the question should be, how do we attain well-being and contentment? I listened to Chris LoCurto interview Jenn Lim on the Dave Ramsey Entreleadership Podcast. Jenn is the CEO & Chief Happiness Officer of Delivering Happiness, creator of the book Culture and Consultant at Zappos. Jenn stated in the interview that happiness is subjective and different for everyone. I also listened as Roy H. Williams discussed Richard Exley's recipe for happiness on his Monday Morning Memo. Jenn and Richard have similarities in their thoughts on this topic so I have combined them here: Commit to a cause greater than yourself, a higher purpose with a clear vision. Have passion and be true to yourself. Value people rather than things. Develop relationships and connectedness. Give thanks for what you have instead of complaining about what you don't have. Have a sense of progress, continue to learn and grow. Celebrate the ordinary and find joy in life's daily pleasures. Sometimes people confuse pleasure with happiness. Jenn describes this as temporary and will not last. I mentioned earlier that I have met many people who have chosen misery. I believe it is a choice and you can choose to be happy. I also believe many people have the misconception that someone else can make them happy. Happiness comes from within. Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be ~Abraham Lincoln I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live ~ Ecclesiastes 3:12 What would you add to this list? Comment below to tell me how you attain happiness. Have a happy week! Pierce
