Send us a textWhat if the real edge in parenting is the same edge that wins on the course: a clear target, acceptance of misses, and total commitment to the next shot? We sit down with Decade Golf founder Scott Fawcett for an unfiltered conversation about fatherhood, emotional control, and the strategy mindset that turned a former hothead into a calmer competitor—and a dad still learning in real time.Scott opens up about growing up in Texas, finding golf as a lifeline, and how poker math and strokes gained data inspired Decade's approach to target selection and decision-making. He breaks down how strategy reduces blowups, why most golfers feel they “should have scored lower,” and the simple framework that helps single‑digit players and aspiring competitors choose smarter shots under pressure. Along the way, he shares Augusta stories, PGA insights, and candid thoughts on who Decade helps the most. The heart of the episode lives at home. Scott talks co‑parenting through divorce and grief, the friction that comes with teenage brains, and why a praise‑to‑correction ratio is so hard to keep. We dig into device culture and dopamine loops, arguing for clear boundaries, late adoption, and tech‑limited spaces that protect attention. Then we pivot to solutions: meditation as the ultimate competitive advantage, Sam Harris's Waking Up app, and curiosity‑driven “TED questions” (Tell me, Explain, Describe) that open real conversations with kids. It's practical, compassionate, and honest about how often we fall short—and why showing up again matters most.If you've ever felt like you're parenting without a yardage book, this is for you. Hit play to learn how to translate course strategy into family leadership, trade reactivity for awareness, and build a home where effort compounds into confidence. If this resonated, follow, share with a friend, and leave a quick review so more parents and golfers can find it.Support the showPlease don't forget to leave us a review wherever you consume your podcasts! Which is the best path to freedom? Joseph Goldstein is a cofounder of the Insight Meditation Society and the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, both in Barre, Massachusetts. In this episode we talk about: What the term "non-duality" means — and why it matters to ordinary meditators. The multiple meanings of non-duality across Buddhist traditions (Theravāda, Mahāyāna, Vajrayāna). How different traditions (and even different teachers within them) define samsara and nirvana. The non-duality of the observer and observed — and how that insight can alleviate suffering. Whether understanding non-duality is practically relevant for reducing stress and emotional reactivity. The evolution of Buddhist teachings over time and how interpretations differ across countries. Sam's argument that the non-dual view can be directly experienced in everyday consciousness — and that realizing it ends unnecessary suffering. Joseph's emphasis on non-duality as one path among many toward the ultimate goal: the end of suffering. How metaphysics and direct experience intersect, and whether doctrinal differences are "self-confirming." The concept of "non-clinging" as the real heart of Buddhist practice — and how it relates to non-dual awareness.   Related Episodes: How To Suffer Less: Joseph Goldstein, Sam Harris, and Dan Harris on the Buddha's Eightfold Path   Join Dan's online community here Follow Dan on social: Instagram, TikTok Subscribe to our YouTube Channel   Additional Resources:  For a 30-day free trial to the Waking Up app, go to wakingup.com/tenpercent   Tickets are now on sale for a special live taping of the 10% Happier Podcast with guest Pete Holmes! Sam Harris recently had Doug Wilson on his podcast where he brought up 2 "kill shots" against Christianity. One is women's right to vote. The other is slavery. While I think Doug did a decent job explaining household voting as a reasonable and ideal alternative to our current voting system, he left a LOT to be desired in his defence of Biblical slavery. The first conversation is good, and something we've talked about here at Family Teams, so I hope you'll watch it and get a sense of why household voting could work. But the second one is very important. Not because it's culturally relevant today, necessarily, but because so many atheists and libertarians think that there's a glaring moral hole in the Bible as it relates to slavery. We MUST be able to defend how the Bible talks about slavery, and I give my version of what I think Doug should have said here. Alan Smith and Jeff Rowland react to a recent conversation between Doug Wilson and atheist Sam Harris and talk through the fallout for modern evangelicalism. They compare Wilson's claim to be an “Absolutist” rather than a “Literalist,” tackle questions about inerrancy, inspiration, and who really wrote Scripture, and explain why your view of the Bible reshapes everything from the Rapture to Eschatology, Christian Nationalism, and Politics. If you hunger for clear, plain teaching on God's word, this episode is for you. Share your thoughts in the comments and let us know if you see the Bible as God's own words or a mix of divine and human opinion.

Given that Plato's Allegory of the Cave seems to still apply to modern people, is there any hope of some day having a civilization rooted in reality? If truly sentient and self-aware and self-motivated robots come to be, would you welcome them into the world as fellow beings worthy of respect? Can an Atheist, like an Ex-muslim be a Christian at least culturally go to church and all, even if he can't find any rational way to believe that God exists. I know, I know it's a strange Question. If the purpose of life is, as I think it is, to become a great mate, find a great mate, create a family, and raise kids who will be great mates themselves... what does the purpose of life become for people who can't, don't, or choose not to become parents?Would moral standards exist, or need to exist, in a post-Singularity world where anyone can have anything they want, built by robotics, AI, and insanely advanced 3D printers? My question is basically rooted in the notion that, once we have anything we want, what are moral standards worth?Moral standards are worth something right now because we need each other in order to survive and thrive.
