Can memories survive death? It sounds like the kind of question skeptics usually dismiss before the conversation even starts. But Ian Stevenson was not a carnival psychic or a late-night ghost hunter. He was a respected psychiatrist at the University of Virginia who spent decades investigating children who claimed to remember previous lives, along with cases involving birthmarks, apparitions, telepathy, and other alleged evidence for life after death. This episode begins with the ancient tale of the Titans, the mythic giants who wreaked havoc at the beginning of civilization and arise again when human cultures become power driven and chaotic. For the Titans, nothing is sacred except excess, immediate satisfaction of greed and being insatiable when it comes to power and dominance. Titans were also called the strainers, as their excess of hubris or self-importance caused them to strain to be seen as gods who had no limits and did not need to follow any rules.     In psychological terms, the condition of titanism appears in those who use chaos to gain power and use it solely to aggrandize themselves. Under the spell of titanism, everything is done simply for effect, to make a big appearance that glorifies or even deifies the person who is actually empty and hollow inside. Lacking any sense of empathy for the suffering of others, they come to see violence and destruction as necessary for maintaining power and extending their sphere of dominance.     As we are in a period of great uncertainty and cultural upheaval, we are subject to a return of titanic conditions like lawlessness, wanton greed and the reckless use of power by those who have no idea of how to use it. Yet, sustaining those false uses of power requires that people continue to give their own power to those seeking to be deified. Is True Leadership Found Only When You Are Willing to Stand Alone? https://teachhoops.com/ Leadership is often portrayed as a celebratory act—the coach at the center of the huddle, the trophy being raised, the loud cheers from the crowd. But any veteran coach knows that real leadership is often a solitary, quiet, and sometimes painful experience. It is the moments when you are "Alone in the Crowd." It's standing firm on a team standard—like sitting your star player for a missed class—when the parents are screaming, the administration is wavering, and even the players are looking at you like you're the enemy. Leadership isn't about being the most popular person in the gym; it's about being the most Principled one. When you are the only person willing to protect the "Soul" of the program, you are at your most powerful. The "Alone in the Crowd" phenomenon is where your "Trust Equity" is truly tested. In the mid-season January grind, when the novelty of the season has worn off and the wins are hard to come by, it's easy for a locker room to slide into a "complaining culture." As a coach, you might feel like a lone voice shouting into a void about "boxing out" or "sprinting the floor." But this isolation is the "Refiner's Fire." If you join the crowd in their negativity or their compromise, you lose your ability to lead them. By staying "Alone" in your commitment to the standard, you eventually create a gravitational pull that brings the right players—the "Energy Givers"—back to your side. Finally, we must address the "Emotional Weight" of the whistle. There is a specific type of loneliness that comes with making the final decision. You can't be "one of the guys" and also be the one who decides who plays and who sits. Use your TeachHoops member calls and office hours to bridge this gap. You don't have to be "alone" in the coaching community, even if you feel alone in your local gym. By connecting with peers who understand the burden of the "Billion Dollar Question," you realize that your isolation isn't a sign of failure—it's the Cost of Entry for championship leadership.

Jorge Ben Jor first began to experiment with fusions of samba, bossa nova, rhythm ‘n' blues and soul in the early 1960s. Together with Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, he participated in the watershed cultural movement, Tropicália, in the late 1960s. In the 1970s, he further explored Afro-Brazilian history and culture in a series of popular albums that have since become key points of reference for a contemporary neo-soul movement. Jorge Ben Jor continues to be an active presence in Brazilian popular music, and he grants us a rare interview to tell his story. However, if we cannot sustain the vitality of our own being we become unable to change the conditions of community and culture.     The heart of the human drama concerns whether we are becoming a greater vessel for the flow of life. Spirit calls us to a higher sense of self, while soul would connect us more deeply to the heart of nature and the soul of the world. Either we are following spirit and growing more soul or we can find ourselves shrinking from life.     We are each here to live out an inner story and living plot line that brought us to life. When we live our lives more fully it is beneficial, not just for us personally, but also for the transformation of the world. As the conversation continues, Jesus deepens His clarity about His relationship with the Father, His divine identity, the Father's action in our lives, and the gift of Himself as the Bread of Life.The passage above reveals an essential spiritual principle we must understand as we work to strengthen our relationship with God: Faith is a response to the Father's call, not something we initiate on our own. This principle is crucial because faith is not primarily a resolution we make to grow closer to God; rather, it begins as a resolution from the Father in Heaven Who draws us to Himself by drawing us to His Son, Jesus, especially in the Eucharist.Practically speaking, this principle must guide our prayer lives. Though it's good to make a conscious effort to pray every day, to meditate on the Scriptures, recite devotions, and attend Mass as often as possible, we must always see those efforts as a response to God's invitation rather than our own good idea. It's a subtle, though important, distinction.To illustrate, consider the Gospel story of the contrasting prayer of the Pharisee and the tax collector in Luke 18:9–14. In that parable, the Pharisee offered many prayers each day and fasted regularly, but his prayers went unheard and his fasting was unfruitful. Why? Because his actions were not initiated by God but were works of his own doing. In contrast, the tax collector, aware of his sin and need for God's mercy, humbled himself and prayed, “O God, be merciful to me a sinner.” That prayer was beautiful and fruitful because it was a response to God Who revealed his sin to him and called him to repent, which he did.Today's Gospel lesson comes to us within the context of Jesus' teaching on the Eucharist. Therefore, we must especially apply His opening words to the way we participate in the Mass. Our choice to attend Mass is not something we do as a favor to God. Instead, our participation in the Mass must be a response to the Father Who offers us the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus, His Son, as the spiritual food we need in order to attain everlasting life. Participation in the Mass is God's gift to us, and our response must be authentic prayer.Our participation in the Mass becomes authentic when we recognize that the Father is inviting us to receive the Eucharist as “the living bread that came down from heaven” and Jesus' “Flesh for the life of the world.” The Mass is about receiving God into our lives, not because we choose to put Him there, but because we say “Yes” to His invitation to be drawn to Him. The word “Eucharist” means “thanksgiving,” and this must be our prayerful response to such a great gift. We must foster an attitude of sincere gratitude for the Father's invitation to share in the Sacrifice of His Son so as to be given the unmerited gift of eternal life.Reflect today on your participation in the Mass. If you ever feel that your attendance is a favor to God, pause and listen to the Father's voice calling you. Try to hear Him invite you to this most precious Feast. Become aware of the Father drawing you to the Mass, to His Son, the source of eternal life. Respond with humble gratitude, knowing that there is no greater gift you can receive.Heavenly Father, You constantly speak to me, call to me, and draw me to Your Son. Please open my ears to hear Your gentle voice, offering me the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Son in the Holy Eucharist. May my participation in that unfathomable Gift be one of sincere gratitude for the eternal gifts You invite me to receive.
